[Called out of town for the weekend. The current series will continue on Tuesday.]

Below are five lists containing thirty-three Advaitin subjects that are discussed on the YouTube videos that follow each of the lists.
(The numeric counter information is provided so that you can move to the exact location in the videos to find any particular discussion that might be of interest)

If you want to share the five Advaita videos on your own site, you are invited to do so without charge. Click on the Video 1 - Video 5 links to the right under “Links and Resources.” You’ll be transferred to the video sites and there you will find the embedding codes that you can copy and paste onto your html pages.

Also, because of the generosity and financial contributions of Andy Gugar, Jr., you can receive for $40 the same 7-hour satsang that seekers receive when they visit for the Advaita Retreat with Floyd. You will be guided through the seven steps from identification with the false "I" to the Absolute (and beyond).

Widespread consensus among the masses regarding any teaching is not substantiation of its validity but is evidence of its lack of validity instead.

F.: The contrarians will be discussed tomorrow in order to respond to various e-mails received after yesterday’s post. The volume once again indicates the arduous task that so many seekers are facing as they sense what one called "a yearning to be free" but are not finding what Maharaj referred to as "a true teacher."

First, please review this pointer from Thursday’s entry: That which is knowable by all (but known by only a few) is the only true wisdom. It has been said that "nothing is hidden that will not be made known; nothing is secret that will not come to light."

Now, though, it is apparent that what is knowable but not yet known will come to light for the few, not for the many. Thus, this site…offering to cast light onto what is not really a secret…onto what is knowable to all…but onto what has been hidden by obstacles.

Those obstacles include the obstacles that result from programming, conditioning, acculturation, and domestication, obstacles which now block the knowable from being known on any widespread basis and which set the stage for ignorance to take root on a widespread basis instead.

Those obstacles assure that it is widespread ignorance, rather than widespread wisdom, that drives the thoughts and words and deeds of the masses. Again, what is that learned ignorance?

FEEDBACK and FOLLOWUPS FROM VISITORS

As shared during an e-mailed exchange yesterday in regards to learned ignorance:

F.: Learned ignorance = “a” + “b”, that is, learned ignorance = (a) that which is intuitively known + (b) the distorting interpretation overlaid upon it by use of the “mind.”

As for that distorting process, it was suggested yesterday that

L.S.: “Surely the religious mystics intuited the same thing – they just used the conceptual label ‘God’ to describe what was intuited.”

F.: Yes…the evidence is clear that many of their pointers which were at the core of their earliest teachings pointed to the same Truth that the Advaita Teachings point to, but the ignorance of other religious leaders and their followers has prevented the understanding of those pointers and led to the total warping of what was initially intuited.

For example, in NT verses, words and phrases such as “riddles” and “hidden wisdom” are used, as well as verses that make clear that the teachings therein are written on two levels with two meanings for readers with two sharply different levels of intelligence, speaking of “Milk for babies and meat for men” (that is, "our messages are offered with double meanings, given in one way for the infantile and in a different way for the mature").

When reading such teachings, the infantile see only what is in black, but the wise understand what is in white…between the black lines of text. The Advaitin seeker that will eventually Realize can understand not only that which can be seen in black but also that which can be intuited in the white.

Consider how a pointer offered on a mature level by Advaitins was warped by an infantile desire for continuity by the religious. Take the pointer, “You Are eternal,” meaning, “You Are a speck of energy, and energy can neither be created nor destroyed.”

What happened with that pointer? The three sky cults of Abraham that followed took that earlier teaching and dualistically warped it into “The body-mind-personality will be forever, and the body can feel pain or pleasure forever, so be good…not bad.”

L.S.: I meant with the mystics, “God” is used interchangeably with labels like “Tao”, “THAT”, “Ineffable” etc – all seen clearly as labels pointing to what cannot be expressed. So there is no personal God, no literal interpretations. The stories of “evil” or “hell” are seen by the mystics as metaphors for the suffering mind-identified state of those who are trapped in separation / duality. Admittedly this view is rare, but does exist among a few. How is this different from the Advaitan understanding?

F.: It is spot on; however, if one follows Maharaj's directions and stays with the I AM only, then even I AM THAT must go, yes? Quite the radical, Maharaj was. With seekers wanting an answer to "Who am I?" the nisarga approach can prove quite unfulfilling, especially to those full of self with their newly-adopted "good personas" of “The Religious One” or “The Spiritual One” or “The Supreme Self” and even “Ye are Gods and I am God.”

As for...

The stories of “evil” or “hell” are seen by the mystics as metaphors for the suffering mind-identified state of those who are trapped in separation / duality. Admittedly this view is rare, but does exist among a few...

Agreed. Even Pope John Paul II said that the geography of Gehanna needs to be understood correctly and pointed out that Christ never spoke of a literal heaven or a literal hell. That pope said that each person is presently in hell (if in the mind-identified state of those who are trapped in separation / duality) or in heaven (if functioning naturally in a mindless state that is free of belief in duality).

[Interestingly, the "infallible" one was quietly labeled "fallible" or "senile" by most Catholic authoritarians.]

[The "good personas" and the "Ye are gods" and the "I Am the Supreme Self" concepts will be discussed in further detail in the next series entitled, “THE ULTIMATE REALIZATION THAT CAN FREE YOU TO LIVE IN THE NISARGA WAY WITHOUT FLUCTUATION”]

Another visitor emphasized again that just as important as finding the true teacher is the readiness of the seeker:

G.B.: Dearest f, This observation is not the scope of the blog but readiness because of a great yearning to be free "led" me to this site years ago and "animated stardust" that I Am has been enjoying the wonder ever since. Can't say why the desire left except that when "I" followed the self back beyond conception it just all made sense...still does. "Happening" on the site occurred because the truth exposed on the site is the real deal...and That is what was sought.

F.: The resonance happened, evidently, when before there was (as in f's case as well) only emotional and / or spiritual intoxication which was mistaken for a sensing of "truth." As for the readiness, the questions must be asked of some other visitors to the site:

**Are you ready to realize that widespread consensus among the masses regarding any teaching is not substantiation of its validity but is evidence of its lack of validity instead?

**Are you ready to move beyond the watered-down milk that is being offered out there and consider the message of the (figurative) meat that is available?

**Are you ready to set aside everything you think you know about religion, Advaita, spirituality, and all so-called "good" and "bad" personas and find the Truth of the Absolute and that which is even beyond?

Please enter the silence of contemplation. (To be continued)

SIX WAYS THAT SEEKERS HAVE REALIZED:

1. BY WATCHING the 4-Disk Video (DVD) Set, or the same retreat available as a downloadable file. Either will provide an entire seven-hour retreat / series of satsang sessions showing three seekers being guided through all seven steps by Floyd and can provide viewers with an “experiential,” step-by-step series of satsang meetings that will move the viewers from identification with the I to abidance as the Absolute and then to abidance as That Which Is beyond

Some seekers are already using the computer file version and the DVD sets for meetings in groups in homes, playing the retreat, pausing for discussion, etc.

To find out more or to purchase the DVD set or the downloadable computer file version of the retreat, click:

That which is known by many forms the body of “conventional wisdom” (which is actually nothing more than learned ignorance). That which is knowable by all (but known by only a few) is the only true wisdom.

F.: E-mails like this are arriving in volume: Do you know an Advaita Vedanta teacher in the San Francisco area you can recommend?

Teacher recommendations are not offered here, and the sites that make such specific recommendations by name are evidencing egotism at play; however, pointers that can be used to eliminate some prospects and that can leave some teachers in consideration are offered on occasion. This series has been moved in that direction. So...

(A) begin by asking a prospective teacher this: "Do you know how THAT came to be thought of as 'this,' and can you teach me the exact reverse steps from 'this' to THAT?" and (B) understand that pointers to Truth trigger a resonance within, but such resonance is not to be confused with short-term emotional intoxication.

Now to possibly facilitate your search, the following considerations are offered. First, easier to count every grain of sand on the planet’s beaches than to tally the number of those who falsely claim this wisdom. Yet many of them cannot even solve the simple riddle of Amness, such as Christians who find “When you speak of me, speak of me as I AM” and “Before Abraham was, I AM” to be enigmatic though such statements are easily understood by Advaitins. So how to eliminate the unqualified from your consideration?

By virtue of the fact that those teachers (preachers, priests, pastors) and their two billion followers haven’t the slightest clue in regards to the meaning of Advaitin pointers written in their so-called “holy” text or in regards to the meaning of words supposedly spoken by the one they worship, the search for a true teacher of wisdom is narrowed because two billion can be eliminated from consideration by virtue of such ignorance of their own teachings. [Dan Brown says that, historically, “They defended their worldly desires by citing Scriptures they did not understand.”]

Next, consider that 1.5 billion Muslims cannot agree on (a) whether “the rightly-guided one” has come or is yet to come; or on (b) who is rightly in the lineage of leadership and who is not; or on (c) whose sect should be believed and whose sect should not be believed. Should it not then be clear that persons caught up in such confusion as that cannot possibly be the carriers of confusion-eliminating wisdom?

Thus, of the six-and-a-half billion religious / spiritual persons you might be tempted to listen to on your “journey,” those two simple realizations above have already reduced the potential candidates for your attention by half.

Similar investigation of all organized systems that would (1) tell people what to believe and what not to believe—often with penalty of death for not believing the “right” beliefs—and organized systems that have (2) conflicting teachings within their own systems cannot possibly be the bearers of truth, cannot possibly eliminate confusion, and cannot possibly provide you with pointers to Truth.

Next, consider: as the case for finding out what Real Love is begins with finding out what love is not; and as the case for finding out Who / What You Are begins with finding all that You are not, so too the search for finding a true teacher begins with identifying and eliminating all the teachers that cannot possibly be true teachers. For those who wrote of the challenge of finding a true teacher, your task has already been incredibly simplified, has it not?

To simplify even more, consider: among those attached to the “conventional wisdom” (or those selling or buying into the non-conventional but non-true “wisdom”), there are many beliefs being bandied about in regards to what is required for peace or for Realization or for salvation or for treatment of whatever ails you mentally or emotionally or “spiritually.” To further reduce the size of the field in which you are searching for a true teacher, understand:

1. If there were a need for you to eat something special in order to Realize, or if certain foods could block you from Realization, then there would be directives offered here regarding what seekers must—and must not—eat. Seek not among those preoccupied with anything dealing with “the objective world” if You would understand the non-objective. [Many missed the opportunity to receive what Maharaj offered because they judged some in his family for eating meat and thus shunned the Master as a result. Eat and let eat.]

2. If it were required that you only read what someone says is “holy” writing, then you would be directed to one or more of the books that religions and philosophies and others call “holy.” Seek not among those steeped in duality who speak of books that are different from, or more special than, other books.

3. If there were a requirement for you to ring bells or smell smoke or strike bowls or sit on special rugs in special garbs or special robes, or if there were a need to hum or sing or knell or chant, then all of that would be prescribed. It is not necessary. Seek not among those who focus on what one is clothed in but who do not understand that That Which You Are is presently clothed in a plant food body. Seek not the odorless and tasteless Manifest Unseen among those that want you to smell and taste and see their ritualistic accoutrements which are of the objective world.

4. If it were required for you to donate 10% of all of the money you earn in order to attain whatever it is that billions are seeking (and have been convinced that whatever that is can be bought), you would be invited to allow the accountant here to set you up with a monthly billing plan. Seek not among those who require regular contributions and demand an on-going "relationship" for an entire lifetime.

5. If there were a requirement for you to be naked in order to hear what must be heard to remove the scars of trauma and programming and conditioning, it would be suggested that you join one of the self-help, self-improvement groups which incorporate nudity into their programs. Seek not among those who suggest that your clothing is a part of what is blocking Your ability to understand what is to be understood or to be free.

6. If you had to “love what is,” as some teachers claim, then you would not be told that Real Love has no object but simply IS. Seek not from those who claim to share non-duality truths while advancing dualistic concepts.

7. If you had to believe that “it’s all good” and had to believe that “you must accept everything in order to be at peace,” then the site would be converted so that it could cater to “spin doctors” and self-deceivers. Expect not to hear the truth from those with distorted perceptions and who are deceivers of self or others.

8. If one would be truly free—that is, totally independent—there is also no need for dependencies on daily meetings or on groups or on god(s) or a need to “keep going back.” Once the understanding is understood, wherefore any further need for being taught? (Could the continuing attachment actually be an ego-based need to assume the role of “The Knower” or “The Sharer of Knowledge” or "The Rescuer" or "The Savior" or "The Good Helper"?) Maharaj sent seekers away for quiet contemplation once the teachings had been offered or for further preparation if the readiness was not there.

9. Next, allow the internal detector to made a non-prejudicial but astute assessment and eliminate from consideration those teachers with dull faculties. If the capacity to differentiate between the dull and the bright teacher is not present, then neither is the readiness. [Let the noisy:quiet ratio be a signal regarding a teacher’s level of trueness. Again, Dan Brown, referring to religious leaders and devotees over the centuries and nowadays as well, noted that “…the ignorant have always screamed the loudest, herding the unsuspecting masses and forcing them to do their bidding.”]

10. Finally, you may be seeing by now that those who are drawing huge crowds by appealing to the masses are not sharing the wisdom of the ancient understanding but—by virtue of the fact that the masses are finding their teachings attractive—are really sharing nothing more than their own specialized versions of “conventional wisdom” (that is, learned ignorance).

What a narrow list you now have to draw from! Are you seeing why your searching in so many places with so many “teachers” and in so many books and in so many other venues have all proved fruitless? How much easier your task of finding a true teacher should now be, knowing that none of the types of teachers above, and none of their activities, are required for Full Realization to happen.

(Here, to the contrary, all of their ideas and beliefs and systems and dogma and seminar content and bestseller subject matter had to be discarded in order for Full Realization to happen.)

So if a handful of Advaitins are offering teachings that run contrary to the “conventional wisdom” (a.k.a., widely-accepted learned ignorance) then why can they not be considered contrarians? That tomorrow. Please enter the silence of contemplation. (To be continued)

seven hours of satsang with floyd guiding seekers through all seven steps (in their exact order) to Realization. See details at the end of this post.

THE FOCUS: A differentiation between the type of rebelliousness that (1) allows for the seeing of an understanding that runs contrary to a misguided culture’s teachings and that (2) propels a seeker along the “path” vs. the type of “contrariness” that encourages attachment to false beliefs and concepts and ideas and thus blocks understanding.

THE CONSIDERATION: Would you study with a teacher that promises you that she/he can give you eternal life, or one that tells You that You are eternal already? With one who evaluates and tells you that you are living in the right or wrong way, or one focused on ending suffering? With one who tells you that you are to learn what he/she knows and to believe what he/she believes, or one that invites you to be free of all learned ignorance and imprisoning beliefs? With one that tells you that you must question nothing she/he says, or one that invites you to question it all? With one that speaks of the hotness of blazing fire or one that invites you time and again into the deep, dark blue shade?

THE PREMISE: There are three types that seekers often meet during the search, and the questions and comments shared in yesterday’s post reveal the challenges that seekers face in differentiating between detrimental naiveté and protective skepticism; between blinding acquiescence and liberating doubt; and between the inaccuracy of “widespread conventional wisdom” and the rare wisdom offered when the pure consciousness speaks.

F.: Is it possible that the speck called Maharaj pointed to truth when it was said: "The true teacher, however, will not imprison his disciple in a prescribed set of ideas, feelings and actions; on the contrary, he will show him patiently the need to be free from all ideas and set patterns of behaviour, to be vigilant and earnest and go with life wherever it takes him…"? In this e-mail below from one whose questions were addressed in yesterday’s post is a follow-up which offers a description of the way the "devotee-guru" dealings can look as the outer teacher always invites You back to the inner teacher and to the freedom of the nisarga (natural) style of living that can follow:

I woke this morning, and smelt the clean, clear air again. What a relief. Personality engulfs me at times, like a fog – so subtle and transparent that it is unseen – but the effects are always exhausting and never bring peace.

Today, I remembered Maharaj’s words: “The deep, dark blue state, the shade that you can take rest in, that is the grace of the guru. The darkness that you see when you close your eyes, that is the shadow of the guru's grace. Take rest in that shade of guru's grace.”

I love that description – the deep, dark, blue shade. I feel like the deer that is startled and runs too fast and too far, and eventually grows tired and stops, to find this silent, dark pool of shade where it can lie down and rest. The deep, dark, blue shade is always present, it is just the relentless movement of the suffering mind that moves away from it.

Maharaj continues: Through the concepts of others you have built up so many things around you that you are lost. You are decorated and embellished by the concepts of others. The purpose of the guru is to tell you what you were like prior to the building up of all those concepts. Your present spiritual storehouse is filled up with the words of others - demolish those concepts. You must find out for yourself your own truth. Guru means the eternal state which will never change... what you truly are. You are that immutable, eternal, unchangeable Absolute. Guru tells you to get rid of all the walls built around you by the hearsay and concepts of others, which have kept you from your true nature.

You tell me the same thing when you reference “a teacher who invites the knowing of less”; and “listen to one that invites you to be free of roles”; and “let the bullshit detector be the "do-er" and do its job while you stay in the beingness.”

Again and again you call me back into the deep, dark blue shade …

Wisdom is neither the lot of those who would “spin the truth” to attract the masses nor the providence of those who offer contrary views for the sake of argument or debate or manipulation or control. Unencumbered by personality (which leads false prophets to call you to them), a true teacher's wisdom is merely the essence of the pure consciousness which speaks to call You time and again to YourSelf and to the peace and rest that can be relished in the deep, dark blue shade.

Please enter the silence of contemplation. (To be continued)

seven hours of satsang with floyd guiding seekers through all seven steps (in their exact order) to Realization. See details at the end of this post.

F.: Yesterday, this note about today’s topic was offered:

Tomorrow’s post will deal with a differentiation between the type of rebelliousness that (1) allows for the seeing of an understanding that runs contrary to a misguided culture’s teachings and that (2) propels a seeker along the “path” vs. the type of “contrariness” that encourages attachment to false beliefs and concepts and ideas and thus blocks understanding.

That statement alone resulted in the arrival of many e-mails asking questions about the subject and indicating that more than a few have been dealing with the dilemma of mustering courage and then, once mustered, finding a legitimate teacher to guide the seeker along the “path.”

**"How can I get the courage to rebel? I was one of those that you mentioned who was beaten down in childhood and have been a doormat all my life. I want to rebel, but fear prevents action."
F.: Consider the pointers to be offered in this series and see what happens.

Other questions also dealt with finding a teacher to assist in “propelling seekers along the ‘path’” and revealed as well some underlying resentments around the compensation issue:

**“Even if the rebelliousness comes about and starts propelling me, how do I know who to listen to and who to avoid? I think the money involved might give a clue. Shouldn’t I avoid any teacher who wants money or gifts for teaching?”
F.: If that were the case, no one would have visited Siddharameshwar, Maharaj, Maharshi, or any of the sages of India. My teacher received dozens of gifts a day for decades. Does your community pay the teachers who teach your children? You would pay a doctor who restores you to physical health without question yet would protest the tradition of offering a gift to one that leads you to Reality and peace and freedom and happiness? Yet the query does touch on an aspect that should be investigated. Notice that neither Siddharameshwar nor Maharaj nor Maharshi became millionaires as a result of staging public, organized events with thousands paying thousands to attend. Why? Because their teachings were not for the masses. There is the key. Is a teacher’s message popular among the masses? If so, earlier postings as well as warnings from Maharaj have already suggested you guard against being influenced by anyone offering a popular message. Such messages cannot possibly have anything to do with fact or truth. You are invited to contemplate that or to search the site for "big teachers" or "big names."

Another raised the issue of courage and then also asked why they should pay for guidance along the path.

**“If i have the courage to rebel and seek, why shouldn’t i also rebel against being asked to pay for guidance? Jesus never charged anyone for his teachings.”
F.: Jesus enjoyed a better lifestyle than any in his day except those with the highest positions in the temple, in the Roman government, or in certain businesses. During his last years, five rich women supported his travels, and others in the towns he visited provided housing and food and clothing. His only “job” was offering teachings, and during the final years, those teachings were Advaita teachings. Several months ago, a visitor wrote to send thanks for the postings on the site, describing all of the "benefits" that had been received, but then asked why there are charges for services. So one who wrote to offer thanks for free postings then protested the costs of other services that pay the bills here. There is a call, evidently, for differentiating between people who never pay their bills vs. teachers whose bills are paid vs. teachers who are becoming millionaires by selling concepts. Understand that options are available and choices can be made, or not.

Others queries also touched on the popular moneymakers but went into other areas as well:

**“This is such a key dilemma for me. It is like there is innocence and a hyperalert bullshit detector that function simultaneously. This is dualistic though isn’t it? The mind will constantly vacillate between the two: innocence and skepticism. Recently – perhaps in response to that ridiculous sweat lodge incident, I have been doing further research. It seems that many of the current “Advaitan” teachers are using the same LGAT approach that made so many used car salesmen rich in the 70’s and 80’s. Exactly the same techniques and strategies. (On their retreats, both James Arthur Ray and Byron Katie use 36 hours imposed fasts - with no preparatory warning given - plus make participants dress up as homeless and wander the streets for a few hours with no money and IDs.) The marketing structure is also identical: huge volunteer staff, so no labour costs, and evangelical emphasis on spreading the word to the unenlightened masses. How different, the Teaching offered in Maharaj’s loft where he often told seekers to leave and not return once they had heard the pointers or told seekers to leave if the readiness was not present – no false promises offered. No practices or worksheets or techniques.

F.: As for the “dilemma,” see what unfolds around the topic. In the meantime, look at the personas that might be involved. Each persona has a basic desire and a basic fear. The Type Five, for example, needs to know more, but for what, especially when dealing with a teacher who invites the knowing of less. If truly dedicated to living naturally, what would the deer do? Go to a sweat lodge (that costs $9000 and occasionally kills seekers)? Would it be more sensible to go to a loft with 10-20 seekers or to go to a church with 1000 and pay 10% of all you earn or go to a convention center with 5000 other persons and pay thousands of dollars for a seminar offering conceptualized distortions of Maharaj's teachings? Listen to one invite you to be free of all roles, or pay $5000 for someone to advise plant food bodies to avoid food for several days and to assume more roles and to tell you to love your rapist and to rejoice if someone kills your child and thereby frees you from the false identity of "The Parent"? For now, the suggestion is to allow the bullshit detector you mentioned to be the "do-er" and to do its job while you stay in the beingness. As for innocence vs. skepticism, in too many cases it is not innocence at all but is actually naiveté that sets persons up to be used and manipulated, and far more persons have been misled and manipulated as a result of naiveté than skepticism.

In this series, therefore, pointers will be offered about three types that seekers often meet during the search:

First, there are the modern contrarians, those who say and do things that run counter to their culture but that also run counter to reality. Some among that group are adept at “putting a spin” on anything and everything. Some inspire denial. Some engage in self-delusion and self-deception and will never be able to differentiate true from false. They will also deceive you while collecting exorbitant fees.

Secondly, there are the persons who are contrary, seemingly only for the sake of being contrary and argumentative; however, they have a hidden agenda involving control and power that will be discussed.

Thirdly, there are the sages that share pointers that also run counter (specifically, counter to "conventional wisdom"); yet they seek no power and no control, practice neither “spinning” nor denial, and (being free of self) cannot possibly engage in self-deception or self-delusion. They have neither mass appeal nor mass amounts of money. They will never tell you that you need to know what they know but will invite you instead to unlearn the learned ignorance that you have been taught.

The key to finding the answer to many of the inquiries submitted will involve finding the valid distinctions among those three and avoiding those teachers who have become wealthy as a result of selling popular concepts rather than offering pointers that free persons of belief in all concepts.

Meanwhile, there are over 1400 free postings available on this site for seekers, and you may use the search tool to find without charge a variety of pointers on almost any Advaita-related topic of interest. Please enter the silence of contemplation. (To be continued)

seven hours of satsang with floyd guiding seekers through all seven steps (in their exact order) to Realization. See details at the end of this post.

FROM A SITE VISITOR: [A request that two topics be discussed] Please write about the inner guru . Maharaj talked about "inner energies waking up". The way it is here, these inner energies awoke during the spiritual seeker phase but persist like a homing device long after the seeker persona is observed and discarded. I wonder what it was like for "Floyd." I have seen it as some relative symptoms or experiences.

Also: when simply being still, abiding in awareness, there is the sense that the awareness IS, independent of breathing, and that if the breathing were to cease, this awareness would persist.

F.: So, yesterday’s post offered the pointer that by whatever means, there must manifest a willingness to “rebel”—that is, to be willing to question all that you have been taught and told and believe and to subject those beliefs to the most rigorous test of all: the test of logic and reason.

Once the belief in all concepts has been cast aside, the way will have been paved for a teacher or guru to point you along a “path” with clear-cut steps that must be followed in an exact order while activating an awareness of the inner guru—of the instinctive knowing that runs counter to all learned knowing.

That inner guru can take on the role of a bus: it is sought when required for movement to a certain destination and will serve the purpose for which it was sought; afterwards, once the arrival at that certain destination has happened, then buses are no longer consciously sought or needed.

The bus will continue to run its route, but there is no need to be concerned with bus routes and schedules; instead, spontaneous movement merely happens from that point forward. It is as if private transportation has been arranged—complete with a private chauffeur—and the body serves as a vehicle for moving the manifested consciousness about in the same manner that a passenger sits back and allows the chauffeur to move it along its way.

During the early stages of the “journey,” the guru merely pointed to the location of the bus and its route. Once the transportation of the consciousness begins to happen instinctively via an inner knowing of the way (i.e., the way to function naturally without any need for pointing), then seeking—even the seeking of a conscious awareness of the inner guru’s messagings—comes to an end.

The means by which you become willing to question need not be the same means by which “floyd” or anyone else comes to that willingness, but the willingness to resist blind loyalty—by whatever course or method —must happen first before the “journey” can even begin, much less be completed.

Some are “wired” early on by such “experiences” as described yesterday to be suspicious of what is sensed to be false teachings, so they become willing early on to doubt the nonsense being taught by authority figures; some come to the questioning phase later in life; and, of course, most never question at all what they have been taught. So it is.

[Tomorrow’s post will deal with a differentiation between the type of rebelliousness that (1) allows for the seeing of an understanding that runs contrary to a misguided culture’s teachings and that (2) propels a seeker along the “path” vs. the type of “contrariness” that encourages attachment to false beliefs and concepts and ideas and thus blocks understanding]

If questioning facilitates the movement along the “path” to Realization, then abidance will begin to happen not as the consciousness manifest but as awareness; thus, the next issue raised: when simply being still, abiding in awareness, there is the sense that the awareness IS, independent of breathing, and that if the breathing were to cease, this awareness would persist.

It has been reported that the one called “My Aniyunwiyas (Cherokee) Medicine Woman Grandmother” shared the wisdom offered by many of the elders among the indigenous peoples (which adumbrated key points offered by Taoists), namely, that Truth can be known but not spoken.

Various translations offer the following in that regard:

Spoken Tao is not eternal Tao
Spoken name is not eternal name
Nameless is the source of all
Named is the source of the myriad things

or

The name that becomes a name
is not the Immortal name

or

The way you can go
isn't the real way.
The name you can say
isn't the real name.

and

A mind free of thought,
merged within itself,
beholds the essence of Tao.
A mind filled with thought,
identified with its own perceptions,
beholds the mere form of the world.

Thus, truth can be known but not told...not spoken. That is why Grandmother said, "That which is closest to 'true' during the relative existence is only the space between exhalation and inhalation."

In that light, it can be seen that what was sensed (and what led to the statement that when simply being still, abiding in awareness, there is the sense that the awareness IS, independent of breathing, and that if the breathing were to cease, this awareness would persist) is as close to a statement of Truth that can be made, specifically...

...at some point, the elements that form a plant food body will return to the universal pool of elements; the air will cease to circulate so breathing will end and the air shall return to the universal pool of air;

the consciousness shall be released from the space and shall return to the universal pool of conscious-energy; and “awareness shall persist” even as awareness is not aware of.

To abide as that / THAT now is to abide as the true nature. It can be seen, therefore, that the awareness is indeed independent of body and breath and consciousness (even as awareness is the source of the manifested consciousness). Please enter the silence of contemplation. (To be continued)

seven hours of satsang with floyd guiding seekers through all seven steps (in their exact order) to Realization. See details at the end of this post.

[Welcome to the eight visitors that have signed up as regular "Followers" of the site]

F.: Next, as to “I wonder what it was like for "Floyd." I have seen it as some relative symptoms or experiences.”

What You have seen is spot on. The case was this: during childhood, there were “experiences” that played a role in setting the stage for the Realization that would happen later, including, mistreatment in the home; frequent witnessing of neighbors and policemen abusing non-whites; the poor in the city being cast aside;

the use of corporal punishment in church (for doubting or questioning the validity of teachings that could not stand up to rational scrutiny); church authorities abusing children (and their actions being denied or covered up when reported);

and the use of corporal punishment in school when, for example, a version of the history of the U.S. that ignored the reality of the ignoble way the nation was founded was challenged.

Later, there would be a witnessing of governmental abuse of power on the local and state and national level as well as the latter’s penchant for control and interference in the affairs of other nations as well as the theft of others’ resources and a penchant for war. How could any of that possibly set the stage for Realization? Can You Realize in the absence of such?

All of those “experiences” are not necessary for being inspired to seek Realization, but in this case they did result in the required propensity to question authority and its abuse of power. So what resulted from all of those relative experiences that would later trigger a “journey,” that would pave the “path” for an easier-than-usual transition, and that would allow for the rejection of all that blocks the seeing of Truth?

1. When there is no respite from cruelty or nonsense in the home / the school / the church / the synagogue / the temple / the mosque / the lodge / the spiritual group / ad infinitum, there is a tendency to withdraw—at least among those who have not been beaten down completely or among those who are not being driven by blind egotism to be a willing participant in such cruelty or nonsense.

2. Such withdrawal is required, even if not on a physical level; however, in the Far East, that withdrawal has actually shown up at times as a temporary, physical withdrawal that led to “the forest dweller stage”; in the Middle East, to a 40-day retreat (or many retreats of varying lengths); and among the indigenous peoples of South, Central and North America, to a withdrawal from society to enter into a “vision quest.” Maharaj went through that stage with a literal, physical withdrawal from society, and in the case of "floyd," the forest dweller stage lasted for twenty-five months.

3. When it is seen that all of the externals listed in #1 above are incapable of pointing to truth but actually offer myth and deceit as fact instead, then there is a tendency (at least among any who are even partly awake) to (a) abandon a search for truth via those external venues that are places where the masses will continue to seek truth without success and to (b) begin to seek within. Hence, the inner guru's role is activated.

4. If the courage to question manifests as a result of the "experiences" that are required to awaken such boldness, then the “quest” is no longer the culturally-initiated quest to accumulate but becomes a mission to seek something beyond.

(There may be a time when the movement “against the current” finally beats into submission a potential seeker's inner urging. That acquiescence will often result in such inner turmoil that persons will use drugs, alcohol, sex, shopping, gambling or any combination of the thousands of things persons use or do to try to suppress the misery of separation from Self. The point is often reached where the conclusion is that "I cannot live with myself anymore." That inability to live with the false selves often leads to "self-destructive" behavior, and persons never realize that it is the false sense of separation from "others" and from Self that is driving their behavior; yet even that stage can be transitioned. That stage of accumulating possessions and false concepts which follows stage one programming, and how to move beyond that stage, is discussed in The Essence of the Teachings)

5. By early adulthood, many personalities have been adopted and prevent completion of the “journey” to liberation from happening, and those personalities, those subconscious motivators, show up in these proportions: 50% on the planet will become Type Sixes (that is, blind loyalists who will question nothing and will live an entire existence in fear and in search of external sources that can provide a sense of security);

a large percentage will become Types Nines and will seek nothing; large percentages will be love-seeking Twos and applause-seeking Threes; a large group will become knowledge seekers and never understand that their learned ignorance avails them nothing;

a large group will become power seekers; a large group will be escapists and never seek the Real Self; a large group will try egotistically to reform others and to "change 'the world' "; but only ½ of 1% will be driven by the motivator that can lead dedicated seekers to enter into a search for the Authentic Self.

The case is that one need not “experience” all that “floyd” experienced in order for some seed of revolution to take root, but some degree of rebellion must manifest if one is ever to have the courage to question authority;

if one is ever to reject blind belief in the culture’s widely-disseminated propaganda and untruths; if one is ever to enter into the forest dweller stage (which can happen even as employment continues, even as familial activities continue, etc.);

and if one is ever to return from the forest and thereafter witness purely throughout the remainder of the manifestation of the consciousness to abide in an AS IF fashion…

...that is marked by a pervasive peace; that allows for being totally independent and therefore totally free; that assures abidance in a nisarga fashion that allows for nothing unnatural or supernatural to be required for coping; and that simultaneously assures abidance as the original, natural state. Please enter the silence of contemplation. (To be continued)

seven hours of satsang with floyd guiding seekers through all seven steps (in their exact order) to Realization. See details at the end of this post.

THANKS TO LOUISE: Louise has provided to site visitors another series that offers the Advaita understanding in her unique but especially clear manner. If you missed that series over the previous four days, you are invited to scroll down to October 20th and read that series first. Thanks again, Louise.

FROM A SITE VISITOR: [A request that two topics be discussed] Please write about the inner guru.

F.: [To review]

It was shared that Maharaj was asked: "Does his inner Guru guide and help him or does he leave him to his own resources, just waiting for the outcome?" Maharaj answered, “All happens by itself. Neither the seeker nor the [inner] Guru do anything. Things happen as they happen.” So there is no inner guru / doer that is doing anything.

Next, among all forms-cum-consciousness other than programmed persons, the intuitive knowing functions without being known. There is a point on the “journey” when knowing is sensed directly and consciously. Post-Realization, the knowing continues to function without any conscious consideration and without any sense of "A Knower."

That post-Realization circumstance is the same circumstance that is already happening consistently among all other non-human forms—including plants and animals. What happens with acorns and with deer just happens; what happens with flowers and with fish just happens; what happens with berries and with birds just happens.

Among humans, though, when programming, conditioning, domestication and acculturation happen, then all rational processes are neutralized. That which was originally a "store and recall" section of the brain that evolved in order to help perpetuate the species has now been warped into a “destructive thinking mind.”

Yes, the process of offering the Advaita understanding involves, at least early on, the use of logic and rationality to differentiate true from false. That is the level at which Maharaj invited persons to “Use your mind” or to “seek a clear mind …”; however, he would report to those farther along “the path” that he was “mindless” and then this: “As to my mind, there is no such thing.”

After logic and reason eliminate belief in any of the fiction stored in the thinking mind, then all mind-ness ends. After that, there is no need for rationality. Then, the instinctive knowing—in the absence of any knower—functions spontaneously and can be considered an inner resource or an inner guru.

The process from that point on is comparable to the functioning of the lungs or the heart. What happens with those two organs happens spontaneously without any thinker thinking, "Expand and contract, lungs" or "Squeeze and release, heart." So it is with all that happens spontaneously with every space-cum-consciousness other than humans as well as among humans post-Realization.

Remember that Maharaj said that science would one day provide evidence that the Advaita teachings are valid, and one science—the noetic science—is mentioned with the caution that everything the Advaitin needs to understand about this science is contained here. (No need to be pulled to a side path that will slow the Realization process.)

In spite of the noetic science’s “Advaita-like” intent, specifically, to create “a foundation for collective transformation toward a world grounded in freedom, wisdom, and love,” understand that the nisargan will discount any wanderings by noetic scientists into the paranormal, faith healing, etc.

That said, note that the study of instinctive knowing is called “noetic" science, after the Greek word for "intuitive knowing." The word "noetic" comes from the ancient Greek nous, for which there is no exact equivalent in English. It refers, though, to the "inner knowing," a kind of intuitive consciousness, which allows for direct and immediate access to knowledge beyond what is available via the basic senses and the power of reason.

The bird that flies away when approached (in order to perpetuate the manifestation of consciousness) does so automatically because of that intuitive knowing which allows for spontaneous functioning.

Yet the bird does not know “something” or “a great deal” or “itself.” It is not consciously accessing some inner guide. It is not honing in on some external sender of signals or messages or "guidance." The knowing simply functions without any sense that it is “The Knower.”

Furthermore, the understanding of the functioning of the totality will never be based, as one noetic scientist put it, “on religious or traditional authority, nor the guarded property of an elite priesthood, but should be empirically based and publicly verifiable, open and free to all.” If you read Louise’s last series, you will see that she pointed toward that same fact.

But there is also an understanding regarding the non-objective and an awareness of what some noetics call an “inner life” that deals with “wisdom” of the type that Maharaj referred to which allows for the understanding that You are "nothing" and "everything" simultaneously.

The parts of the noetic sciences that are relevant to the Advaitin are not the parts that deal with anything tangential or “supernatural” or “paranormal” but are the parts that deal with understanding how the totality is functioning now rather than trying to predict future happenings; that deal with understanding the oneness as opposed to interactions among parts; and that deal with witnessing rather than seeking power in order to control.

It has been noted that noetic science “deals with the rediscovery of truths that in some sense have been discovered over and over again.” There will never be any continuous, widespread enlightenment because every generation is programmed, conditioned, domesticated, and acculturated, so every generation must see the false and then be aware of truth.

Is an "outer guru" required to remove the blockages, a process that then allows the Pure Witness to see, which allows the intuitive knowing to function in a natural, unimpeded manner, and which allows the remainder of the manifestation to unfold spontaneously? More often than not, yes, but as Louise noted, awareness of Truth is ultimately accessed from within, not from without.

As far as being "conscious of the inner guru" or "tuned into the inner guru" or "aware of previously unnoticed awarenesses," all of that only happens at a certain point on “the journey” (just as the use of thorns to remove thorns only happens at certain points early on). The difference is that, after former beliefs are discarded and the new awarenesses manifest, that inner guru is not tossed but functions spontaneously as in the example above of the bird.

Initially, at earlier points along the “path,” reason and logic function to differentiate that which is “natural” from that which is nonsensical and unnatural and / or magical (a.k.a., “supernatural” or "spiritual").

Eventually, though, after all of the effects of programming, conditioning, domestication, and acculturation have dissolved, then those humans functioning under the limitations of the blocked consciousness, and who take themselves to be persons, will be returned to the pre-programming condition and can function in a natural manner that is typical among all other forms.

Then, it will be the inner knowing (the inner guru, the inner resource) that influences behavior rather than mind-thoughts and persona-words that drove whatever deeds were occurring prior to Realization. [Tomorrow, the other questions above will be addressed.]

Please enter the silence of contemplation. (To be continued)

Five Free eBooks

Compliments of Andy Gugar, Jr.,
the following eBooks are available without charge for you or for friends:

I.
"GOOD vs. EVIL?" or "IGNORANCE, STUPIDITY, and INSANITY?"

The content of this eBook deals with one of the most common but erroneous beliefs that the non-Realized masses cling to and which they will fight about (and even kill over), namely, that there is a planet-wide duel going on between “the forces of good and evil” in the universe.

Either (1) the ancient view is spot on: that the "ills of the planet" are rooted in evil people, in people not being religious enough or spiritual enough, and are caused solely by bad morality; or, (2) the "ills of the planet" are rooted in ignorance, stupidity and insanity and "being good" or "being moral" does not put an end to ignorance, does not eliminate stupidity, and does not treat insanity in any way.

II.
"THE VISION"

Comments regarding the free eBook entitled “THE VISION”:

“My thanks to you and Andy.” – Andrew “Mac” McMaster

“Thanks so much for the book! And, by the way, it is brilliant and the most effective pointing that you have done. It has served to help clear the remaining blockages.” – Stan Cross

“Greatly appreciate having “THE VISION” added to my Henderson resource library that is situated on the right side of my bed for easy access! Eternally grateful for what was received and what was given.” – Robert Rigby

“‘THE VISION’ is such a well-written, condensed version of the Nisarga Yoga approach to understanding and enjoying Reality that I feel it can serve as a must-read ‘meditation guide’ for all earnest seekers.” – Andy Gugar, Jr.

III.
"Sapolsky, Maharaj, and the Non-Dual Teachings"

Dr. Robert Maurice Sapolsky is an American neuroendocrinologist; a professor of biology, neuroscience, and neurosurgery at Stanford University; a researcher; an author; and a Research Associate at the National Museums of Kenya.

There is much that a non-dualist or Advaitin or Nisargan can relate to by comparing and contrasting what Sapolsky reveals about the way certain troops of baboons live in Africa with the way that humans abide all around the globe.

This 152-page eBook catalogues the common, non-dual message shared by Sapolsky and Maharaj and reveals the ways that Sapolsky’s scientific research supports the non-dual pointers offered by Maharaj.

IV.
Seeking

In “PART ONE” it will be seen that most persons on the planet are not seeking, and most will never seek, but for those who are seeking, most will face several obstacles:

In “PART TWO” of this book, it will be seen why many criticized Maharaj for “changing his message in his later talks.” It will be seen that the changes were not about changing the message per se as much as about changing his methodology as he experimented with one version of the Ultimate Medicine after another in order to try to find an effective means for addressing the Ultimate Sickness.

He tried a religious version of the Medicine, a Spiritual version of the Medicine, and finally settled on a version which addressed to Sickness at its core . . . at the mental and emotional level.

V.
"THE MOST DANGEROUS BELIEF OF ALL"

“Dangerous” is a term that can only apply during the relative existence, but of those who do commit suicide, for example, how many shoot themselves in the foot over and over until they “bleed out”? None. They shoot themselves in the head. Why? In order to try to stop the noise - to try to stop the chatter of a thousand monkeys – to stop the noisy mind which is the area that stores the ideas, notions, concepts, mind-stuff, etc. which drives them into the depths of insanity.

And what are those ideas, notions, concepts, etc. called, collectively? "Their beliefs." The irony? They are not their beliefs at all. They are the beliefs of “others” that were set in place via programming, conditioning, etc. and which persons then think are their own.

And what are those beliefs rooted in, and what reinforces those beliefs and convinces persons that they are sacred and worth fighting over and even sometimes worth dying for? Blind faith.

This 337-page eBook discusses those issues in detail.
