I AM THAT vs. “This is who I think I am” – The Conclusion

An Advaita Vedanta forum focusing on Realisation, (Realization), enlightenment, non-duality, Real Love, peace, freedom, Your original nature, the natural state, and Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj.

(Continuing with pointers for moving through the relative existence in Love, in peace, in harmony, and in touch only with that which is natural)

F.: In 1970, upon returning home after work, it was noted that the door was open and the alarm was sounding. Burglars had broken the lock on the door and had taken away everything they could carry.

During the process of moving about the home and compiling a list of the stolen items for a police report and an insurance claim, it was not too difficult to know exactly what was taken. If someone else walked into that home, they could not have the slightest clue about what had been stolen.

So it is among the non-Realized: few will ever reach a point where they realize that they have been robbed, much less understand what was taken or how to find it now.

For millions of years, humans and/or human-like beings moved through a simple existence. Those pre-“mind” beings functioned in the manner of the deer and the birds and other non-human beings do today, namely, as three-part units with (1) an elemental, plant food body (with its elemental brain); with (2) a body-cum-consciousness; and with (3) air circulating into and out of the body.

In touch with the sixth sense and the intuition, they moved through a complex-problem-free existence in a simple, self-constructive, and no-thinking (but reasonable) manner.

The stage was set for complexity as the human brain evolved from a one-cup size to a three-and-a-half-cup size and developed areas for information storage and retrieval...information that might help assure the survival of the species. For example:

Someone fell from a cliff. The consequences were noted, and the next time one approached the edge of a cliff, stored information regarding the results of walking off the edge were retrieved and both the cliff edge and the consequences were avoided.

Eventually, that “mind” became filled not with survival tools but with concepts and beliefs and lies which became destructive rather than constructive.

(Today, the brain of one suffering the consequences of a brutal hangover at 8 A.M. might send a signal that results in the words “I’ll never do that again.” By 5 P.M., however, the “mind” sends a different message:

“You’re feeling better now, and you know that alcohol helps relieve the stress that has built up today at work. Go have a few drinks." The self-constructive brain nowadays is constantly being overridden by the self-destructive “mind.”)

What had been a simple existence for millions of years is now a very complex existence for most persons, and the main cause is the “mind.”

My teacher said, "If you trust me, believe when I tell you that you are the pure awareness that illuminates consciousness and its infinite content. Realize this and live accordingly. If you do not believe me, then go within, inquiring ‘What am I’? Or, focus your mind on ‘I am’, which is pure and simple being.”

Now, that chance for “simple being” is taken away early on in the case of each manifestation, robbing persons of knowing Who They Are (or more accurately, What They Are) and blocking the consciousness from being illuminated by the pure awareness.

That which was once simple has become quite burdensome as a result of your being burdened with personality…with the assumption of bogus personas as real identities. Non-realized persons think that they are so many things, and every one of those things thought to be real is a source of egotism and offense and discontent and complications that lead to a very complex and frustrating existence.

Beingness is very simple; being “something” is most complex. Here, the relative existence is simple as a result of the wisdom of knowing I Am nothing and is Loving as a result of knowing the Oneness…the At-one-ment.

Here, the existence is simple because it is a singular existence, not marred by the false belief in multiplicities because it is not marred by the presence of a “mind.”

“But I have this ‘mind,’ Floyd. How can I possibly be rid of it?” Also, simply. The “mind” is merely the storehouse of all of the lies and concepts and beliefs and learned ignorance that you have been taught. If you discard belief in that nonsense, then the “mind” is automatically emptied and becomes, therefore, non-existent.

Having seen the lies as lies, it became a simple process to forget it all. Persons believe that is impossible or at least tremendously difficult. It was far easier for Me to forget it all than it is for you to remember it all.

Moving spontaneously through the existence has become a far more simple, effortless happening for this mindless Me than for the non-Realized trying to negotiate the relative existence while living under the influence of the fallacious content of a "mind."

For those persons who are not mindless, then their “mind”-driven existence is highly complex indeed. Your yoga here is the nisarga yoga, inviting You to abide as the awareness (and beyond) and thereafter to function naturally. Be free of the unnatural and supernatural elements that are filling your / "their” mind and robbing you of peace and freedom and joy.

This message is simple; the existence that follows the understanding of this simple message is a simple existence. Among those seekers that complete the final steps, they abandon belief in all nonsense and they begin to live naturally, just like every other living thing on the planet except humans.

They find what they were robbed of, and when they know that simplicity was stolen from them and they follow the “path” to its end and find that simplicity, then their lives become simple for the remainder of the manifestation.

Complexities fade away. Anxiety disappears. Reality is overlaid upon the relative existence and the Realized (abiding as the awareness and beyond) live in a sane manner. Such specks move spontaneously by brain-centered logic and reason rather than via "mind"-centered arrogance and ego-states and egotism and magical thinking and unnatural and supernatural efforts to live in a way that makes them "special" or "better-than."

May You see that you have been robbed and retrieve that which can be Yours once more. Please enter the silence of contemplation.

THIRTY ADVAITIN POINTERS and THIRTY-THREE ADVAITIN DISCUSSIONS VIA VIDEO

An Advaita Vedanta forum focusing on Realisation, (Realization), enlightenment, non-duality, Real Love, peace, freedom, Your original nature, the natural state, and Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj.

F.: Out-of-town offering the teaching until Thursday night, so the conclusion to the current series will be addressed starting Friday. Meanwhile, the thirty pointers from this series and the thirty-three Advaita discussions via video will be offered for consideration and contemplation. (For those visiting the site only recently, each of the thirty pointers are discussed in detail. You may view the postings of the last several weeks for those discussions.) Regards, Peace, Love, Light, f.

Thirty pointers for moving through the relative existence in Love, in peace, in harmony, and in touch only with that which is natural:

1. Witness.

2. Be done with the notions of experiences and an experiencer.

3. Abide as the “awakened / alert sleep” state.

4. Be unflinchingly true to Truth.

5. Abide as the original, natural, pre-universe state, identified only with the nothingness until even that identity falls away.

[PLEASE NOTE: There is no one to benefit from Realization. There is but the opportunity to live naturally during the remainder of the relative existence. It is the nisarga yoga that is the key element of all of the teachings here with no intent other than to afford an opportunity to live naturally rather than unnaturally and supernaturally…a.k.a., trapped in magical thinking.]

6. Seek the Void, the Ultimate De-Accumulation, The Nothingness.

7. Abandon all egotistical beliefs about supremacy.

8. Be concerned with the war that most impacts your relative existence.

[PLEASE NOTE: Again, a seeker during the recent satsang admitted to the lingering effects of early programming: attachment to body (including fear of illness and death), exacerbated by the fear of the potential for eternal punishment. I say to all in that mental-emotional trap, the sooner “you” die, the better, relatively speaking.

The sooner You see that “you” were not born, the sooner that “you” can die.

The sooner You see that whatever was not born cannot die, the better, relatively speaking.]

9. If you yet take yourself or YourSelf to be something or someone, consider that you are ignoring one of the earliest invitations by the Advaitin teacher, namely, to be free of all concepts and ideas and beliefs.

10. Associate with “company” that does not reinforce beliefs about “separation” and duality (otherwise known as what Maharaj called “good company” and “noble friendship” and “holy company”). If that is not available, then keep only your own company instead.

11. Never compromise Your integrity and Your dedication to the teachings. To falter in impeccability—that is, to compromise in regards to zero tolerance of anything short of zero concepts—will leave you in as much chaos as those who have never heard these teachings and are trapped in duality 24-7.

12. Understand that a refusal by an Advaitin to associate with certain persons or groups does not suggest that the Advaitin does not still understand the Oneness.

13. Be childlike without being childish.

14. Unlearn all learned ignorance to return to the Child (Free Of) Ignorance state.

15. Admit that the mind”—initially the seat of all ignorance—will also eventually become the guardian of all ignorance as well.

16. Admit that no one (including seekers and non-seekers as well) can know what she/he does not know, and admit that what you think you know is nothing more nor less than learned ignorance.

17. Understand that there is no such thing as an “Advaitin belief.”

18. Efforts to quiet the “mind” or to ignore thoughts cannot succeed with any consistency.

19. The “mind” is the instrument that supports your personality with thoughts, and those thoughts are the instruments that will forever prevent "peace of “mind”; in fact, there is no such thing as "peace of “mind." There is only peace if freed of the "“mind."

20. Consciousness is rooted in the Absolute. The brain is rooted in the elements. The ‘“mind”’ is rooted in wrong programming and faulty conditioning and lies and concepts and ideas and superstitions and falsehoods.

21. You are in a play, playing a role, and believing that the role and the play are both real. Why would you believe such nonsense? Because "your “mind” is the playwright, the author of every scene.

22. Everything that is said here is to be used to get rid of another false belief until all ideas and emotional intoxication and beliefs are gone and nothing remains but the unstated understanding. Only then can the constant churning and re-churning of the false beliefs of the corrupted “mind” finally cease.

23. What is that inner resource, that inner guru? It is the vestige of pure consciousness that remains, deeply buried beneath the waste called “your mind.”

24. In order to know (the great) Reality, you must be sane. In order to be sane, you must be out of your “mind.”

25. Believe nothing that you see or hear. Find out what You already know.

26. Persons are not at all what they appear to be.

27. No more is anyone given a simple life; furthermore, your complex life and problems are not of your own making.

28. For millions of years, humankind had a simple life before complex problems became the status quo. You can go back—if you go all of the way back in the strictest Advaitin sense—to a simple life.

29. The most “controversial pointers” (that is, those which trigger a reaction from persons among the non-Realized who are trapped in ego-states and egotism) are those that deal with their religious and/or spiritual beliefs.

30. The religious and spiritual stages, however, are only the third of seven steps on “the path” to Full Realization.

Please enter the silence of contemplation. (To be continued)

I AM THAT vs. “This is who I think I am” – Part Thirty-Seven

An Advaita Vedanta forum focusing on Realisation, (Realization), enlightenment, non-duality, Real Love, peace, freedom, Your original nature, the natural state, and Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj.

(A series offering pointers for moving through the relative existence in Love, in peace, in harmony, and in touch only with that which is natural)

F.: Among the Realized—as a result of being free of any notion of doership—nothing is believed to have been done, no person is thought to exist, so no sense of “personal benefit” or “caring about a slight” can happen. Beingness happens, and it happens without a “mind,” without noise, and without any sense of a personal doer or doingness.

Among the non-Realized masses, thoughts and words and doingness dominate, all driven by the assumption of personas as identities and by the perceived desires or fears of those personas.

To “find them out,” to uncover the false personas that are driving a non-Realized person that is preoccupied at any given moment with “getting benefits” or “caring about slights,” two Italians phrases can be used to provide the key questions that can be asked and that can reveal which personas are generating discontentment.

If discontent, upset, angry, offended, disappointed, or irritated, ask, Cui bono? (Who benefits?) or Chi se ne frega? (Who cares?) To find the false WHO is to find the fictional persona(s) affecting “you” as a result of the fact that “you” are not identified solely with “You” or with—at the point of total de-accumulation—with the Void.

At the retreat/satsang that happened last week, the pointer was offered that every personal identification accepted as real will soon be upgraded: “The Spouse” become “The Super Spouse”; “The Boss” becomes "The Super Boss"; “The Teacher” become “The Super Teacher.”

Whereas “The Spouse, Boss, and Teacher” can "survive" (at least in their own “minds”) with a spouse, an employee, and students, respectively, “The Super Spouse” must have “A Super Spouse”; “The Super Boss” must have only “Super Employees”; and “The Super Teacher” must have “Super Students.”

If the people engaging with those who have mentally upgraded their own false personas should fail to play out their co-dependent counter-roles in a "super" fashion, then the one taking himself/herself to be so "super" will make certain that those people shall pay a heavy toll for not meeting the super standards set by the one assuming "super role status."

Just as there is no such thing as a “Super Mirage,” there is no such thing as a real, "super ego-state"; therefore, there can most assuredly be no “super” version of any persona. Frustration will be guaranteed among those who have upgraded their false identities by use of the false content of their “minds” and who demand that all persons dealing with them function at a "super level" as well.

Furthermore, those upgraded versions soon inspire the formulation of hierarchies that falsely validate and thus insanely perpetuate a sense of separation. Ego and egotism have resulted in the military establishing a hierarchy; in police and fire departments doing the same; in churches and temples and mosques doing the same, the ego-state of “Supreme Leader” evolving from the latter, for example. Those ego-and-egotism-based beliefs will generate constant in-fighting.

Ego-states rooted in nationalistic tendencies do the same, with one nation's arrogant citizens proclaiming publicly that they have formed “The Greatest Nation on Earth” while some others believe the same but keep quiet about it. The most arrogant persons rank all nations from “their superpower nation” at the top down to “Third World Nations or worse” at the bottom while casting the remainder in between at various points of their imaginary hierarchy. Those ego-and-egotism-based beliefs will generate constant fighting and wars on an international scale.

Additionally, ego and egotism can generate two-person hierarchies in a “personal relationship” and one person will always think he/she is “better than” the other one. Again, ego and egotism result in “upgrading” and “downgrading,” in a sense of separation, in disharmony, in chaos, in misery and in suffering.

Only an understanding of the Oneness and the None-ness allows the relative existence to happen with spontaneity and therefore with Love, with peace, and with harmony. Only Realization can guarantee that the relative existence will happen in a manner that is natural vs. (1) a manner that is controlled by unnatural thinking and talking and doing or (2) a manner that is dominated by the magical-form-of-thinking that supernatural beliefs generate. Please enter the silence of contemplation. (To be continued)

I AM THAT vs. “This is who I think I am” – Part Thirty-Six

F.: (Continued from yesterday) In the 24 July 2009 post, the discussion showed that seekers, when they fixate at the religious or spiritual level, have only completed half of the “journey” to Full Realization. They believe the light that fell upon them was the bright noontime light; it was, in fact, only the dull light of dawn.

That is why 6.5 billion people can walk the planet while claiming to be religious and/or spiritual without having even the slightest clue at all about who they are not or about how to find What They Truly Are; about how to stop walking and talking in their sleep; about how to be free of the insanity of magical / supernatural thinking; or about how to be free of the nonsensical belief that their false identities are real.

They believe that everything is a result of some external god or power or force in the universe. They do not understand that every thought they think and every word they say and every deed they do is driven by the mental illness of monomania which inspires them to assign a supernatural cause to everything—including all happenings that are simply occurring naturally.

Believing that the cause of everything is an external force that is controlling events on the planet, they do not understand the actual cause(s) of anything. Then, driven by their religious and/or spiritual personas, they will go to any lengths deemed necessary to support their false beliefs and false identities and to inspire (or force) others to accept their beliefs as well.

Persons who are totally disgusted by the insanity of the masses in general—insanity that is exposed millions of times a day across the globe—have extraordinary tolerance for the insanity on display within their religious groups, their spiritual groups, and their own homes. Why?

That tolerance allows for the continuation of all of their false personas and also inspires others with whom they associate to tolerate their insanity. In their game of mutual but selective acceptance of insanity—acceptance of their partner’s insanity or their fellow worshipers’ insanity or their fellow group members’ insanity—they co-dependently reinforce false identities and false beliefs and set the stage for the widespread acceptance of nonsense.

While monomania appears most often among the non-Realized masses who are trapped in their religious and/or spiritual personas, the mental illness can appear in varied ways, many depicted in literature:

In Bronte’s Wuthering Heights, Heathcliff is described as a monomaniac, obsessing over being reunited with Cathy.

In Melville’s novel Moby Dick, Captain Ahab is a monomaniac, his every thought and word and deed and, yes, his entire relative existence revolving around his desire to kill the white whale. In one passage, it is noted that “in his narrow-flowing monomania, not one jot of Ahab’s broad madness had been left behind….”

Monomania does indeed result in a narrowing: in being "narrow-minded," in living a narrow existence, in being driven by a very narrow and ignorant and warped perspective.

In Braddon’s Lady Audley’s Secret, Robert Audley is accused of being a monomaniac because of his endless attempts to prove her guilt. Monomania is described via her words, and those words reveal exactly why the 6.5 billion people who have assumed a religious and/or spiritual persona as a true identity walk about in their sleep and unconsciously repeat the words of their programmers.

Her words show why such persons are insane; why they cannot accept any pointers that challenge their rigid belief systems; why they express with pride, but without logic or reason, their inane beliefs; why they have been reduced to abidance as a one-dimensional persona; why their brains are shifted into neutral and no longer used; why their corruption-filled minds are closed to truth; and why they are not ever likely to see the ignorance of their myth-based beliefs or to awaken to truth. She said:

What is one of the strangest diagnostics of madness—what is the first appalling sign of mental aberration? The mind becomes stationary; the brain stagnates; the even current of reflection is interrupted; the power of the brain resolves itself into a monotone. As the waters of a tideless pool putrefy by reason of their stagnation, the mind becomes turbid and corrupt through lack of action; and the perpetual reflection upon one subject resolves itself into monomania.

As noted yesterday, monomania reduces its victims to one-dimensional persons, trapped in what is a personality that was developed either (a) during childhood programming and conditioning or (b) in adulthood via a newly-assumed primary personality that assigns some notion of “god-ness” to every happening on the planet and in the universe:

"Yes, God has blessed me with a wonderful _____ (fill-in-the-blank with "house," "spouse," "life," "child," "family," "job," "set of parents," "support group," ad infinitum) or

"Yes, God works in mysterious ways, but I will overcome this loss of _____ (fill-in-the-blank with my "home," "savings," "child," "parent," "city," ad infinitum) "and I will eventually be even stronger for having endured all of this misery and suffering. In fact, God will now use my suffering to help others. I will save lives and make lives better. I are blessed, and I have now been blessed with the power to bless others."

In the process of being convinced that something supernatural is the one, single cause of all, non-Realized persons will not understand the cause of anything; thus, they will remain asleep and ignorant and will believe that an external power or force is micro-managing everything, be it dualistically perceived as either "good" or "bad."

And that is why you are invited to complete the entire "journey," to be free of the duality that comes with the assumption even of personas that are thought to be "the good ones."

What chance has the Dalai Lama to understand the role played by ocean temperatures and pressure systems and northern hemispheric movements of tides and wind currents in affecting the routes of hurricanes if he is convinced that some external power is not only determining the course of hurricanes but is using their destructive winds and flooding rains to realign "karmic imbalances"?

Suffering from monomania will guarantee that persons will suffer from the unchecked influence of seemingly limitless ignorance. So it is when programming, conditioning, acculturation, and domestication trap the masses in false identities and false beliefs.

You are invited to reach the third step on the "path," to play the religious and/or spiritual roles that must be played for a time, but then to transition those false identities and continue along the "path" to the no-concept, non-dual, no insanity, no-nonsense state of Full Realization. Please enter the silence of contemplation. (To be continued)

I AM THAT vs. “This is who I think I am” – Part Thirty-Five

F.: (Continued from yesterday) The pointer was offered in yesterday’s post that the discarding of former “bad” roles and the assumption of “new and improved good roles” (such as “The Religious One” or “The Spiritual Giant”) fixates persons at the third step of a seven-step “journey” to Reality.

Persons who assume those roles usually stop at the halfway point on the “journey” because the egotism that accompanies those two “good” ego-states convinces persons that they have found all of the answers and understand all causes.

They believe that either (1) they know why everything happens as it does or (2) they discount the times they do not understand by saying, “He works in mysterious ways” or “The power of the universe is at work and that’s why such-and-such happened.” They also assume the persona of "The Know-It-All" whereas the invitation here is to know nothing, to enter the Child-No-Longer-in-Ignorance Stage.

The Realized know that That Which They Are is limitless, but those fixated at the third step in their newly-assumed “good” personas become totally limited and—as noted yesterday—become one-dimensional persons, walking about the planet and claiming that everything that happens is a result of the one god (or one set of gods) or the one force or the one power that they worship.

The pointer was also offered that "in believing that they understand the one cause of everything, they actually understand no cause(s) of anything." The result of the one-dimensional thinking among those who believe they are functioning in a supernatural manner and in a fourth dimension—or on a noumenal level—are actually in the depths of a form of insanity called “monomania.”

Monomania is a mental illness where persons are “limited in expression to one idea or area of thought” and are trapped in “excessive concentration on a single object or idea,” in this case, “god” or “gods” or “the force” or “the power.”

Once a religious or spiritual persona is adopted as a supposedly real identity, then mental illness sets in. Rather than understanding that the cause of all is all, “God” or “Gods” or the “God-force of the universe” or “the universe itself” are said to be the cause of everything.

So the Dalai Lama claimed that Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans and destroyed the town because of the “negative karma” of the people there. In that case, it was the monomania, not the pure consciousness, that was speaking.

An Islamic leader claimed on the one-year anniversary of the fall of the Twin Towers in New York that Allah was the cause of the towers falling because if he had not wanted them to fall, then the mission by his fellow Muslims would not have succeeded. Monomania, not the pure consciousness, spoke.

Religious fanatics in the U.S. also claimed that the towers fell because of God, claiming that the Christian God wanted them to fall in order to send a message to the non-Christians and to liberated women and to gays in the U.S. that he was displeased with them. Monomania, not the pure consciousness, spoke.

The child shot during a gang’s drive by shooting died alongside the rival gang members because “God works in mysterious ways” or “God needed a new little angel.” Monomania, not the pure consciousness, spoke.

It is not unlike the woman who reported that “God saved her life” because a man ran a red light but hit her in the front side of the car and that “if she’d been two seconds sooner his car would have hit her broadside and killed her.”

Trapped in the monomania that resulted from being re-programmed in her spiritual recovery group, she was appalled when the comment was made that if her God had really been watching over her, she could have been five seconds sooner or five seconds later and not been hit at all.

When a child was playing beside a flooding river during a rainstorm, fell in, and was swept by the currents to the bank a mile downstream, her mother reported in a television interview that it was “the hand of God that pushed her to the side and saved her life.”

Again, the tardiness is amazing. If there were truly a “hand of God” and if the hand had been sooner, would it not have pushed the child back before she fell into the raging currents rather than having to push her out later on? And if a parent were competent and sane, would she allow her daughter to play beside a raging river during a storm? Double evidence of both insanity and ignorance, yes?

Being in touch with Reality is being totally sane. Being trapped by magical beliefs and supernatural thinking is being out of touch with Reality and is, therefore, being totally insane.

Such is the case when any personas are adopted as identities, whether thought dualistically to be “bad ones” or “good ones.” Either persons function sanely and spontaneously in a nisarga (natural) fashion or they think and talk and behave insanely in an unnatural / supernatural fashion. Please enter the silence of contemplation. (To be continued)

I AM THAT vs. “This is who I think I am” – Part Thirty-Four

F.: They who think they know will never seek the truth; they who think they have arrived will never reach the final "destination." As the series nears a close, pointers will be offered that can guide seekers beyond the point where most fixate, believing that they have arrived and therefore never completing the entire "journey."

So these considerations are also offered:

Certain pointers offered by Maharaj triggered reactions from those who were identified with their supposedly-holy mirages, with their supposedly-sacred images, with their false religious and/or spiritual personas—especially those who believed that they had abandoned all of the “bad personas” and were presently identified with their newly-assumed “good” and “noble” and “elevated” religious and/or spiritual personas.

But Maharaj taught:

"Whatever spiritual things you aspire to know are all happening in this objective world, in the illusion. All this is happening in the objective world. All is dishonesty. There is no truth in this fraud."

"There is no question of elevating to a higher level. Here it is only a question of understanding."

“When the birth is disproved, the great noble meaning of spirituality and the meaning of this world—everything—is disproved.”

“I have no faith in anything which has ever been told, not even what has been told by the Vedas. Only my own experience.”

Many among the masses are not only prone to attach to the false and to develop bogus images to impress others but also have an affinity for their "sham-ness." It bothers them not in the least, for most do not recognize a sham as a sham.

They love playing roles and assuming false identities, and they are so dissociated from the effects that they think they are comfortable with their fakery.

Alternately, some persons have a predisposition for seeking the authentic…the Authentic Self. They tire of the phony and faked trappings of the relative existence very early on.

For other seekers, the disgust for all that which is counterfeit only develops after years of tolerating such phoniness or even reveling in it. After years of association with that which is not authentic, some few will seek that which is real.

Yet most never move beyond the third stage. The remainder of the manifestation is passed with kneeling and standing and kneeling; with striking special bowls with special sticks and with ringing special bells or chimes.

In other cases, the remainder of the manifestation will be passed by wearing special robes or crosses or by killing members of other religions. Some who are more docile will hum and chant; some will shout and scream.

Years will be spent in asking favors of some external power; with following some arbitrary, "holy" diet; by waving arms in the air or rolling on the floor or speaking in unknown tongues.

Some will cry. Some will sing praises. Some will faint. Some will give away their possessions or money. Some will allow a supposed “healer” to strike them on the forehead, after which they will swoon.

Some will fight with others who have different beliefs. Some will claim that they are casting out demons. Some will give thanks for all of the angels that float about in their presence and "guard" them.

But almost all will question nothing; will believe with unwavering "faith" anything that they are told by their “religious or spiritual leaders”; and will believe they are being bathed in the noonday sun while they are actually only standing in the dim light of damn.

They will claim that they have transcended identification with the three-dimensional body (with its height and width and depth) and that they have been rocketed into the fourth dimension.

But what actually happens is this: they become one-dimensional persons, walking about the planet and claiming that everything that happens is a result of the one god (or one set of gods) that they worship. Though they created their god/gods (with their fiction-generating "minds") they will claim that a creator god created them.

In believing that they understand the one cause of everything, they will really not understand the cause(s) of anything. Please enter the silence of contemplation. (To be continued)

I AM THAT vs. “This is who I think I am” – Part Thirty-Three

An Advaita Vedanta forum focusing on Realisation, (Realization), enlightenment, non-duality, Real Love, peace, freedom, Your original nature, the natural state, and Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj.

PLEASE NOTE: A group of men are here for a retreat through Thursday so the postings might be at later-than-usual times.

(A series offering pointers for moving through the relative existence in Love, in peace, in harmony, and in touch only with that which is natural)

F.: Yesterday’s post ended with this:

How to begin to be free of that “mind” which prevents your having a simple life? That tomorrow.

When cancerous polyps developed, the doctor excised all of them. He did not pick and choose; he did not discard some and leave some; he removed them all. The intent was to be totally free of cancerous growths, not partially free.

Such is the approach that must be used with all of the ideas and attitudes and beliefs and concepts that are stored in the “mind” if one would be totally free. To be free of being driven by the fiction-filled “mind” requires emptying it of all of its contents.

Yet the content of the “mind” is taken by the masses to be “gospel truth.” The mindset is, “I believe what I believe, and the reason I believe it is because it is true.”

If beliefs from ten years ago were found to be false and thereafter discarded and then replaced with new beliefs (new learned ignorance) then logic would suggest that the person who found old beliefs to be lies might be more willing to question current beliefs.

Yet such is never the case among the non-Realized masses. Seeing that old beliefs were lies never inspires the masses to reassess current beliefs objectively. Present beliefs are held not only with esteem but are jealously guarded when an invitation to reassess is offered; thus, current beliefs will be thought now to be as valid as those old thoughts were believed to be before they were seen as lies.

Next, the patient cannot remove his/her own polyps; similarly, the seeker that would cleanse the “mind” of erroneous beliefs cannot find and discard erroneous beliefs.

The earnest seeker must objectively take into consideration the pointers spoken by the pure consciousness; otherwise, the seeker will not be the protégé of the consciousness which speaks but will become the protégé of the charlatans that walk the planet en masse.

Why would you choose a plan that says that you will practice judging and psychological projection all of your life and that the way to handle that judging and projecting is to use specific steps to reprocess the conclusions drawn by your “mind” during judging and projecting?

Why would you agree to such a complicated, life-long process, to such an exhausting way of moving through each and every day for the entirety of a relative existence?

Maybe because you have never been told that if you abandon all personas as false identities and abandon the “mind” completely, you will not judge and you will not project and you will not have to process all day every day, and you will then spontaneously and automatically live in a natural and free and peaceful way?

Why would you pay thousands to attend a seminar that tells you how to get power rather than seeing that there is no such thing as power, that power is an arrogance-based, fear-based concept, and that it is desired by controlling and/or frightened persons?

Why have you not looked to the deer or the bird or the fish, all of which do quite well even without any power other than what comes naturally via the body and the brain? If you studied those models, would you not see the way that you too can live a simple, easy life rather than a life marked by the plethora of “mind”-games that are assigned by various mentors for you to play on a daily basis?

I am no mentor; I am no model. I am only temporarily a manifested speck of consciousness that is pointing you away from insanity and toward the only models that can show you the way to live if you would function naturally and spontaneously (i.e., functioning via the brain and the sixth sense in the same fashion as those mindless, uneducated animals and birds and fish).

Why seek all of the knowledge of the East and all of the knowledge of West when you need no more knowledge at all? Why not see that the models of peace and bliss and freedom have no knowledge at all? Why do you value the contents of your "mind" / their "mind"?

Could it be because you have not understood that the “mind” is the seat of all of your complex problems and that you cannot be free of those problems until you remove the ego / guardian that is protecting the source of your problems?

Do you not see that each belief and concept that you hold dear is one of the bars that form the prison that is your / their “mind”? Why seek the wisdom of the East or the West when you have available here the wisdom of the entire universe…the wisdom of oneness and the wisdom of no-one-ness?

I AM THAT vs. “This is who I think I am” – Part Thirty-Two

F.: This pointer was offered for consideration at the end of yesterday’s post:

28. For millions of years, humankind had a simple life before complex problems became the status quo. You can go back—if you go all the way back in the strictest Advaitin sense—to a simple life.

The plant food body itself is a very simple conglomeration of elements. It comes about automatically, it functions spontaneously. There is no need to think about being hungry, to think about digesting, to think about breathing, to think about making the heart beat.

For millions of years, human bodies functioned and perpetuated the species without doctors, mid-wives, surgeons, dentists, emergency rooms, psychiatrists, psychotherapists, priests, preachers, mullahs, rabbis, imams, teachers, religion, dogma, philosophies, etc.

Also for millions of years, the body had a brain, and the consciousness manifested via the body. (What it did not have for millions of years was a "mind." More on that in a moment.)

As is the case with a modern house, the human body has always had its own plumbing system, its own cooling system, its own heating system, its own air purification system, and its own internal detoxification system, all operating naturally. Now, none of those are functioning properly.

Now, most humans do not eat naturally, cannot purge naturally, and cannot even sleep naturally. While many persons want to complain about the mess that the planet has become in terms of wars and pollution and super-viruses, they totally fail to see what a mess they have become.

Now, the part of the human elemental body that is most complicated is the part of the brain that did not exist for millions of years when the human brain was one cupful in size. As the brain evolved to its present 3.5 cups size, it added a region for storing memories and for retrieving memories. The foundation for complexity—and all of humanity’s problems—was laid.

In spite of all the complexity that has resulted from “their” programming and conditioning and domestication and acculturation, however, you can reclaim a simple life. How? By striking at the source of the complexities, namely, the “mind.”

There are those who will tout the value of the “mind.” You may revisit the 6 June 2009 post to see the way Maharaj discussed the “mind” with beginners, but for those farther along the “path,” he shared this: “There is no such thing as a mind” and “I have no mind….”

There are more than enough Advaitin teachers out there who will praise the “mind” and speak of the use to which you can put the “mind.” But I tell you the case here is exactly as was the case with Maharaj:

(1) I have no “mind.”

(2) There is no such thing as a “mind” except as a storehouse for illusions and untruths and bogus concepts and false teachings. At the moment of Full Realization and after a shift to the no-identity, no-belief, no-concept mode, the “mind” spontaneously ends.

(3) I also tell you this: there is no such thing as peace of “mind.” That which prevents peace cannot possibly provide peace.

(4) Furthermore, your existence will be complex and complicated as long as you let the “mind” remain to generate thoughts and to control subconsciously all words and deeds (which is not your “mind” at all but is really just their “mind” which you have now adopted).

(5) If you accept the proposition from anyone that you cannot be free of the most complex and most complicated part of the human organism called the “mind,” then you will never have a simple life, your existence will be complicated from dawn to dark, you will never be free, and you cannot possibly be at peace.

How to begin to be free of that “mind” which prevents your having a simple life? That, tomorrow. Please enter the silence of contemplation. (To be continued)
