Here, there is nothing that is believed, so there is no one here who wants you to believe anything, either. Here, the invitation is to be free of all that you have been programmed, conditioned, acculturated, and domesticated to believe so that you can be free, period.

Furthermore, for those who have developed a preference for any non-nisargan yoga or who prefer Traditional Advaita Vedanta, Neo-Advaita, Neo-Vedanta, or Pseudo Advaita: here you will only find the use of the Direct Path Method of teaching along with the Nisarga (Natural) Yoga.

Also, you will find here very few of the teachings offered by Maharaj in his earlier talks and far more of the message that he offered in his ultimate talks. Why? During his last years, he said of I AM THAT: "That book and whatever was expounded at that time was only relevant for that period. I am speaking differently today" and am "emphasizing different aspects." His final understanding, which was completely different from what he offered early on, is the basis of pointers here. Maharaj made clear at the end that the pointers in I AM THAT will take you to the midpoint of "the race"; only the pointers in his final talks point the way to "the finish line."

F.: What marks and mars the manifestation? Is it not this imposing guest called "consciousness" that has come without invitation and that stays long after any joy it brought has faded? Is it not also those companions which it always brings along for the visit, namely, desire and fear? Is it not also the inability to see clearly when all of those guests block Your view?

Maharaj: "The obstacles to the clear perception of one's true being are desire for pleasure and fear of pain. It is the pleasure-pain motivation that stands in the way"

and

"Giving up desire after desire is a lengthy process with the end never in sight. Leave alone your desires and fears; give your entire attention to the subject, to [the persona] who is behind the experience of desire and fear. Ask: 'WHO desires?' [That is, which fear and / or desire-driven persona is fearing something or desiring something and therefore controlling thoughts and words and actions?] Let each desire bring you back to Your Self."

What is to be seen clearly? This:

Maharaj: "Pain and pleasure go always together. Freedom from one means freedom from both"

and

"You imagine that without cause there can be no happiness. To me dependence on anything for happiness is utter misery. Pleasure and pain have causes, while my state is my own, totally uncaused, independent, unassailable."

Some might recall a conversation shared in a previous post, a conversation overheard at lunch in a former workplace:

Woman 1: "You know, I've decided that I'm ready to get married again."

Woman 2: "You know, so am I! I've been thinking the very same thing lately."

Floyd: "I didn't think either of you were even dating?"

The reply: "We're not," offered in both cases with an accompanying look of disdain for the inquiry which called into question both their actual desires and their hidden motives.

Bit of a cart-before-the-horse" approach. The sequence Maharaj discussed moved from stranger to acquaintance to friend to lover to spouse (and then, in more cases than not) to enemy to mortal enemy to former spouse; the sequence followed by those two women skipped stranger, acquaintance, friend, and lover and bulled dead ahead into acquiring "a spouse." Senseless? Yes. Very common? Yes.

But because all in the relative existence moves from thought to word to deed, both women had the thought, both put the thought into word, and so - of course - they were both married within the year. You will manifest your thoughts and words. (By the way, both were divorced, for the second time, within a period of two years.)

See, in both cases, they had an agenda. They had a cause. And they were, therefore, searching for a cause (actually a "causer") who would be able to cause them to be happy; who would cause an improvement in their financial or personal well-being; who would cause a restoration of whatever benefits they thought they had reaped from their first marriages that they were then "missing."

They wanted pleasure. They had fears. They had desires. And none of those had anything to do with legitimate reasons for entering into a "relationship." In their case, not only was there not Love; there was not even "love" since no "one" was even present to "love" - much less to lead to an understanding of what Real Love is.

Their agendas were hidden from them, and they were hidden from the men they married the second time around. Those two did not know that "a man is not a plan." And yes, the agenda of the men was hidden from the women and from themselves as well.

As noted yesterday, duality is always in consciousness and of consciousness ... all relative. The term "relationship" by its very name should be seen to be rooted in duality.

But among the masses, nothing is more sought-after, more pleasure-giving, or more pain-producing than duality, and none will experience more dualities than in

1. organizations that speak in terms of "good and bad" and "reward and punishment" and the hundreds of other dualistic pairs that they dream up and preach about, or in

2. relationships.

The consciousness brings with it The Ultimate Sickness. Learning about moralistic dualities is not The Ultimate Medicine and a relationship is not The Ultimate Medicine, contrary to popular belief.

What persons call "love" is the most magnificent experience of all; it is also the most horrendous experience of all. With such duality, how can that possibly be taken for the Real? As for feeling or emotion, if Love happens as a feeling, take the ride and watch the feelings rise and fall; if "love" happens as an emotion—that is, if it is being "experienced" by a person in an ego-state—prepare for war

Here, enjoyment certainly happens though nothing is desired. Nothing is feared since there is nothing to register fear. The awareness-in-consciousness functions from a position of neutrality, knowing that if persons are trapped in seeking the applause of the village, they must also be prepared to accept the scorn of the town as well. If you are willing to seek and accept pleasure, full speed ahead, but then be prepared to find and accept pain and suffering.

All on the planet is happening in a theater where role-players are moving about on the stage in The Theater of the Lie - in The Theater of the Consciousness - and in a theater where consciousness-based duality is always the director of all of the thoughts and dialogues and behaviors of the actors. And the only play that is ever really being played is "Goldilocks."

With the masses afflicted with the "The Goldilocks Syndrome," then, planet-wide, the belief at any given time is that

a. "there's too much of this"

or that

b. "there's too little of that"

or sometimes (but rarely)

c. "this is just right."

And such belief-driven instability is sure to result in the pendulum of one's relative existence being ever-in-motion.

Efforts are constantly underway to be rid of the extremes and to seek and find whatever will lead to the conclusion that "this is just right." Yet that state is always followed in the ever-in-motion consciousness by an eventual drawing of the conclusion that ...

" ... Wait a minute! What was 'just right' is now gone! Why doesn't the 'just-right' stay that way?!"

Trapped in the consciousness rather than relaxed in the stability of THAT and the peace of the Void leaves persons in a state that is much like that of a piece of driftwood along a shoreline, pushed this way... pulled back that way.

For persons, that means being ever at the mercy of the ever-in-motion rhythms of consciousness and consciousness's vacillations between pleasure / pain and pleasure / suffering.

In the desperation of pain or suffering, the search for pleasure becomes a chaotic undertaking, raced after blindly, trying one panacea after another to try to treat what is too hot or too cold, too hard or too soft, too stoic or too emotional, too sexual or too frigid, too smart or too stupid, too driven or too lazy, too fat or too thin, too beautiful or too ugly, too rigid or too nonchalant,

too saintly or too corrupt, too young or too old, too needy or too independent, too distant or too smothering ... always trapped in the extremes, always discontented because of being too poor or seeking out the too rich and then living under the whims and demands of those types who think they can own anyone and control everyone.

The answer is not to avoid a relationship. The answer is to be free of being driven by dualities; of being driven by the desires of false personas; of being driven by the fears of false personas; and free of agendas hidden from self and from others.

The deer in this area relate and bond and breed while also having sex for fun; they are seen as they touch throughout the day, and the enjoyment of the touch is totally natural. To participate in all of the above is both normal and natural. The point is, the naturally-abiding, almost-always-contented deer are not engaging in those normal and natural functionings with any agenda at all. If they did, they would surely be disappointed eventually.

They are not seeking to lose their depression or to gain anything. If you go into a relationship depressed and melancholic, you will soon be in a relationship that is coated in depression and melancholia, and you will eventually leave the relationship ... still depressed and melancholic. The two women mentioned above? Currently, both are the epitome of depression and melancholia manifest.

A relationship is what can be enjoyed without stress and chaos when it is entered into after the state of stability has manifested and after wellness exists. The deer do not establish an agenda and then search through the woods for someone to bring the agenda into being.

Nor do the deer enter into relationships when they are sick. When they are sick, they do not run about seeking. When they are sick, they stop everything they have been doing, they find a place to lie down, they rest, and they take no actions at all until they are well.

[And by the way, once a deer is truly and completely well, it will not ever seek out a sick deer or settle for a sick deer.]

When a ship at sea is in danger, the captain does not order the blowing of a whistle that sends the message "Freak out! Do Something! Anything!" Instead, a sequence of notes is blown that is called "Blowing the Still." The message is, "It seems the time has arrived to take drastic action, but before doing anything, be still ... stay calm ... take no action ... wait for clear instructions to come."

In Your ship, the clear instructions come from the inner resource or from the pure consciousness and pure awareness-in-consciousness that can speak to You. Ultimately, it is one of those sources that will be the only one that can tell you that you are being driven and that it might be in your best interests, relatively speaking, to heed the inner guru when it is Blowing the Still.

Again, the consciousness brings with it The Ultimate Sickness. A relationship is not The Ultimate Medicine, and when symptoms of The Ultimate Sickness are manifested, that is the time to stop everything you are doing; that is the time to find a place to lie down; that is the time to rest; that is time to take no action at all until you are well.

Past experiences washed off with the cleanser of awareness now show that nothing external will ever provide anything or anyone to address the discomfort of perceived fears and unmet desires because all fears and desires are merely movements in consciousness and, therefore, can only provide in the end something that is totally unstable, ever-moving, never constant, never constantly providing what was sought.

Here, I stand on the middle ground where there are no dualistic Goldilocks-type extremes, but that stand can only be taken consistently when stabilized as THAT (or as Nothing) rather than being tossed about by the shore-slapping waves of the consciousness of "this," a condition which renders persons as helpless as that piece of driftwood being controlled by the choppy and ever-in-motion waters along the shore.

The shore is THAT. The pounding waves, ever-changing, are the consciousness. The shore seems very boring to the masses; the pounding waves - as chaotic as their effects might be - seem far more preferable than the quiet shore to persons who are seeking "a way." Seeking a way to what?

Seeking a way to escape whatever they perceive to be "too this," seeking a way to escape whatever they perceive to be "too that" ... forever trapped in the constant seeking of that which is "just right." "Right" and "wrong" are dualities, so neither exists at all. Might as well burn all of your energy seeking the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Or as another option, sit still, be quiet, and just enjoy the rainbow itself. If you do, You might fixate in the peace and solitude and happiness of Your original nature which is somewhere beyond the rainbow.

In “PART TWO” of this book, it will be seen why many criticized Maharaj for “changing his message in his later talks.” It will be seen that the changes were not about changing the message per se as much as about changing his methodology as he experimented with one version of the Ultimate Medicine after another in order to try to find an effective means for addressing the Ultimate Sickness.

He tried a religious version of the Medicine, a Spiritual version of the Medicine, and finally settled on a version which addressed to Sickness at its core . . . at the mental and emotional level.

"THE MOST DANGEROUS BELIEF OF ALL"

“Dangerous” is a term that can only apply during the relative existence, but of those who do commit suicide, for example, how many shoot themselves in the foot over and over until they “bleed out”? None. They shoot themselves in the head. Why? In order to try to stop the noise - to try to stop the chatter of a thousand monkeys – to stop the noisy mind which is the area that stores the ideas, notions, concepts, mind-stuff, etc. which drives them into the depths of insanity.

And what are those ideas, notions, concepts, etc. called, collectively? "Their beliefs." The irony? They are not their beliefs at all. They are the beliefs of “others” that were set in place via programming, conditioning, etc. and which persons then think are their own.

And what are those beliefs rooted in, and what reinforces those beliefs and convinces persons that they are sacred and worth fighting over and even sometimes worth dying for? Blind faith.
