An Advaita forum focusing on Realisation, enlightenment, non-duality, Real Love, peace, freedom, Your original nature, abiding naturally, the Oneness, the Nothingness, and Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj.
As for Maharaj, you will find here some of his early pointers for beginners but some of his later pointers that are for seekers farther along the "path." During his last years, he said of I AM THAT: "That book and whatever was expounded at that time was only relevant for that period. I am speaking differently today" and am "emphasizing different aspects." What he offered later differed considerably from his earlier talks, making clear that the pointers in I AM THAT will take you to the midpoint of "the race" but that his final talks point the way to "the finish line."
[The remainder of the series is taken from the last section of the book below which Amazon.com will soon be publishing. The prior postings in this series are from the first two parts of that book]

1. Having completed the second leg of the three-part "journey" via the Direct Path Method (completed by "going back" along the same "path" by which you "came in" the first time, but in the exact reverse order),
2. and having Realized Fully as a result of completing all seven steps that shift you to You ... that shift you from identification with the false "I" to understanding not only That Which the Real You Is but also understanding the Absolute and beyond as well,
3. and then having completed the third leg of the "journey" (which involves "coming in" for the second time but with Full Awareness this time),
then one can also understand the message offered via the Nisarga Yoga.
From that point forward, the remainder of the relative existence unfolds in a totally different manner than before as You abide in an AS IF fashion.
You know that You Are Light, that I Am Light, but employment can still happen, merely without attachment. Responsibilities can be met and challenges will be handled, but without emotional intoxication.
There are also five stages that will have been transitioned if one takes the complete Seven-Step Journey to Reality:
I. Persons are exposed to twenty years of programming and conditioning and acculturation and domestication. In the Western cultures especially, the programming is to get, to accumulate (a concept that is now being spread to many Eastern cultures).
II. Afterwards, most persons pass the next twenty years in the second stage, consumed with the process of accumulating, driven by conditioning, beaten down by domestication, and - in far too many cases - made into cold and hard and unavailable humans as a result of acculturation, (especially that form of acculturation which has been imposed by the harsh Aryan, Anglo-Saxon, Northern European, Teutonic types and which has been spread around the globe and which people have been subjected to via invasions and colonization and domination ... be it military domination, economic domination, or any of the other forms that domination can take.) Fears and desires and egotism, rooted in personality, mark the passage throughout this stage.
III. Some few might finally question it all and begin to ask, "Who am I?" and "What is this all about?" and "Why is there such misery and suffering and how can it be addressed?" and "Why - truly - can I not be light and happy?"
IV. At that point, seekers might move into the fourth stage as they begin a process of Self-Inquiry, investigation, and discovery. Most persons will never make that shift and will continue trying to accumulate until the relative existence ends and living under the unconscious influence of their programming and conditioning and acculturation and domestication. For the few who focus on the search for an answer to those questions above, some will complete all seven steps along the "path" and will reach the fourth stage of Realization. So what does the remainder of the relative existence look like for those that Realize?
V. The remainder of the relative existence makes up the fifth stage where AS IF Living happens. Consider:
De-accumulation is the mark of freedom from the early programming and conditioning and domestication and acculturation. After that freedom manifests, then one can live AS IF, as if this life is "the real" but knowing it is not. The Realized can then enjoy whatever remains of this relative existence, free for the first time—free of parental and familial indoctrination, free of educational indoctrination, free of cultural indoctrination, free of spiritual indoctrination, free of religious indoctrination, free of political indoctrination, free of economic indoctrination. Free. Independent. Period.
The invitation is to allow the teachings and yoga to serve the purpose of bringing about an understanding of the differentiation in the true and the false, and then to toss it all away and to live simply and naturally, as if. To live AS IF is to know THAT but to also enjoy the relative existence while meeting the basic requirements of a plant-food-elemental-body and honoring commitments made for the relative time that the consciousness is manifested.
Once You begin abiding AS IF, along with the newly-acquired clarity accessible via Full Awareness and along with a complete understanding of the functioning of the totality, all which was "seen inaccurately" is now "seen" accurately in the flickering images of the light that plays before Your eyes.
All misperceptions will have dissolved, and clear perceiving via True Wisdom will happen. All of the false forms of love discussed earlier will be deemed totally unacceptable and will be rejected. True Love will be known.
The false will be seen to be false ... will be understood to be the not Real. The play that was watched earlier in "The Theater of the Lie" and that was taken to be real is seen now to be not real, seen to merely be a display of thoughts and words and deeds by the actors who flicker across the screen in a movie theater or on a television.
They are seen to be nothing more than images that were registered via the consciousness but then distorted through the machinations of the delusional mind. You will be aware of the fact that the Unseen, the Unseeable, is the Real;
yet You will remain in touch with reality - with the present relative existence that is also seen exactly as it is. You will no longer be concerned with the false images of this manifestation or with what had formerly been taken to be "yourself" and what had previously been called "your life."
Then, You will finally be able to enjoy the present moment, the Eternal Now, for as long as the consciousness is manifest. And you will have no expectations to meet nor any future rewards to long for nor any future punishments to spend a lifetime trying to avoid.
Free of those, You are free of the control of those who dream up or pass along all those concepts that form the prison called "the mind" which traps persons in fear and desire and misery and depression and which, in turn, drive all the self-destructive and addictive behaviors that follow those conditions in an effort to try to escape them.
As long as persons try to maintain religious-spiritual images or roles, they will be at the mercy of those who would manipulate them with religious dogma or with spiritual principles.
They will claim that a religious person does this and a spiritual person does that, and to maintain their religious or spiritual image, persons will do what they are told. At that point, freedom is lost. If you were subjected to that, it was at that point that you became "theirs." Non-AS IF living began and the most unnatural and supernatural thoughts and words and activities followed.
For some, both states can serve a purpose, but both are to be transcended. They are but bridges that allow seekers to cross the seven degrees of separation. If seekers do not transcend those, they are vulnerable, and thus in fear, and frustrated eventually as a result of being controlled by others.
Abiding "their" way, there is no freedom, and thus no peace, only living in "their world" with "their mind" driving your every thought and word and deed. Only after transitioning all of the seven steps on the "path" and then returning with Full Awareness can the entire "journey" be completed. Then only can Full Realization happen, and then only can the peace of nisarga, AS IF living happen.
After completing all three legs of the "journey," all unfolds spontaneously, AS IF any of the relative existence is THAT Which is Real but knowing that it is not ... abiding AS IF all of the relative "much ado about nothing" matters, but knowing that it does not.
Please enter the silence of contemplation. (To be continued)
