THE COMPOSITE UNITY Re-Visited, Part Three

Here, there is nothing that is believed, so there is no one here who wants you to believe anything, either. Here, the invitation is to be free of all that you have been programmed, conditioned, acculturated, and domesticated to believe so that you can be free, period.

Furthermore, for those who have developed a preference for any non-nisargan yoga or who prefer Traditional Advaita Vedanta, Neo-Advaita, Neo-Vedanta, or Pseudo Advaita: here you will only find the use of the Direct Path Method of teaching along with the Nisarga (Natural) Yoga, all shared in simple, everyday English.

F.: Recall this pointer from yesterday:

Is a log any less a mirage - any less misperceived - than the smoke that rises in the fireplace? No. Logs engage with nothing that is not real. So it can be among persons as well.

Next, consider this point that Louise offered in her recent series:

It is not necessary to engage with personas. It is enough to simply look directly and see that they are not fixed or solid but are a constantly shifting and changing stream, ephemeral, like smoke.

Like smoke. Ever in flux, as are non-Realized persons throughout the relative existence. Ever changing in appearance, as are humans during the relative experience. Ever coming together and coming apart until the final coming apart, after which neither logs nor persons will be resurrected and after which neither logs nor persons will exist elsewhere.

As noted, a log and a human are exactly the same, so the same "fate" awaits: the elemental parts will return to the universal pool of elements; the oxygen will return to the universal pool of air; and the conscious-energy will return to the universal pool of energy.

End of that specific story. Might some components be drawn into additional cyclings? Maybe yes, maybe no. It cannot be known for it all happens spontaneously without any plan or planner or Planner.

Therefore, all who tell you that they know exactly what is going to happen - and even tell you the details that have been dreamed up by persons and that have been sustained by magical thinking and by acceptance of myth and superstition as fact - those persons actually do not have the slightest clue about the facts or about Reality now or "later."

Their "world" that is centered in body-mind-personality identification has become very crowded, fictional though it is. In that "mind-world" of dualistic thinking, there is Pope Benedict XVI and there are parishioners; there is his Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and his followers; there is a special guru in special clothes with his regular entourage.

In that very crowded "world" of body and mind and personality, there are preachers and followers; imams and followers; rabbis and followers, priests and followers; there are the Oshos of the world and their followers; there are the big name teachers and their devotees;

there are kings and their subjects; there are those selling the supposed secrets of the universe and those selling their bastardized versions of Maharaj's teachings ... warped by adding elements that appeal to the power-and-control-seeking masses who prefer duality over unicity and darkness over light;

there are those who sell dreamed up nonsense and those willing to buy it; there are holy people in opposition to the ungodly, the secular, the immoral, the evil, the blasphemous (like "floyd"?); there is the consecrated and the unconsecrated; there are spiritual giants and spiritual pygmies (like "floyd"); there are cops and robbers; saints and sinners; blacks and whites; gays and straights; right-wingers and left-wingers;

there are the right and the wrong; there are war-mongering patriots and those puny peace seekers the patriots despise; there are the billions of close-minded persons vs. the few that are now totally mindless; there are persons living supernaturally and unnaturally and a few abiding naturally;

there are the rich and the poor; the accepted and the rejected; the loved and the hated (who can become the hated and the loved); there are saviors and killers; there are the compassionate and the sociopaths; walkers and racers; and there are a few fixated in a peaceful mode and the masses that are forever in a combative mode.

That fictional world - a product of the fiction-based mind - is a very crowded place, and a crowded mind can know no peace. Always, beliefs and ideas and concepts are rattling about inside that storehouse of lies, bouncing about wildly like the metal sphere in a pinball machine. An endless stream of thoughts are constantly ricocheting about, blasting the brain with endless noise and strum und drang.

Often the thoughts and ideas and concepts and beliefs will break out in noisy, peace-ending pontifications or dictations or posturings, often explaining how clearly such talkers purport to see (though their vision is actually limited by the worst case of mental and emotional miosis imaginable).

All of that describes what a relative existence is like when abiding blindly as the body-mind-personality triad. Conversely, there is abidance as it unfolds after the understanding of the triad of the composite unity. That tomorrow.

F.: To review two pointers from yesterday:

During the movement along the "path," answering the question about "the identity of the Am-ness" can lead to an early level of freedom if the body-mind-personality triad is replaced with the triad of elements-air-energy (a.k.a., "the composite unity")

and

How many persons on the planet can never be offended, as is the case with the one that can ask, "WHO - what part of this temporarily manifested unity - can be offended? The oxygen part? The energy part? The element part? Of course no. There is no WHO. There is no part of those three that can be offended, so there is no part of the triad that can be robbed of total freedom and total peace."

Total freedom and total peace. Such can never manifest when identified with the triad of body-mind-personality. Such can manifest when the triad of the composite unity is understood, so to continue with yesterday's pointer that there is no difference in a composite unity that is labeled "tree" or "log" and the composite unity that is labeled "human."

Why does this near-universal sense among persons of being "different from" or "special" or "unique" exist, other than faulty programming and faulty conditioning and ignorance? You, the tree, the roach, the snake, the bird, the fish, the deer, "other people" of differing economic, racial, sexual, and national persuasions or identities: no difference. All just plays in appearance.

By noontime, the logs placed into the fireplace this morning that seemingly appeared to be one thing will have disappeared and something else will have seemingly appeared. What will remain will appear to be ashes, not unlike what will remain when this plant food body called "floyd" is cremated someday.

Yet nothing more than a temporary "coming together" of elements led to the first appearance, and a "coming apart" of those elements led to the second appearance. In that process where appearances changed and generated a belief that "logs became ash," nothing was created and nothing was destroyed. The Second Law of Thermodynamics assures that appearances will change because whatever comes together in the relative will eventually come apart.

In Cape Town where Louise resides, it is warm enough that she could place what persons call "an ice cube" on the street and soon persons would say that "a puddle of water has appeared." Yet there was only H2O before and H2O afterwards. Nothing changed except the perception / misperception. Same with "floyd" and "logs." Same with You and All.

How is it that, in those processes, nothing was created and nothing was destroyed? All is matter / energy, and neither matter nor energy can be created nor destroyed. Fourth graders know that from their basic science classes.

But add in the ego-states of "The Proud Parents To Be," for example, let them see the result of an act of friction that began nine months earlier, and watch their pride grow as they claim that they "created" a baby.

(The truly delusional will even claim that a supreme being worked with two human beings so that the "creation" is really special, having both natural and supernatural involvement. How truly special that child must be with a god involved in its "creation." Talk about upgrading an illusion. Talk about Super-Sizing an ego-based fantasy.)

Then observe how delusional they will remain as a result of believing in their false roles which are supported by false pride and, yes, by arrogance generated over the child that will be seen by them as the most beautiful or most handsome, as the cutest of all, as the most intelligence of all, ad infinitum, ad nauseum.

They will be so ignorant as a result of acculturation and assumption of ego-states (and will be so driven by the accompanying egotism) that they cannot or will not acknowledge the basic facts about matter and energy that were set forth in their basic science class in the fourth grade.

Then, they will program that child to believe that its beautiful or handsome body can last forever and that they will all be together for now in "this world" and that they will all be together in "that world" later.

The ignorance of belief in the concept of body-mind-personality continuity will be introduced, and then duality will soon follow as the child is taught that it must be "good" and not "bad" in order for all of them to be together in the "better place someday forever" rather than the child being separated and placed in the "worst place someday forever" if it is not "good."

Again, wherefore this sense of "different from" or "special" or "unique"? That sense is all rooted in ego-states, egotism, and ignorance-driven delusions. The tree. The human. No difference except in vibrational rates. Both examples of the temporary, composite unity.

As for that body-mind-personality continuity that the non-Realized hope for, what can be learned from Big Mama's logs? Can ashes be turned back into a log? No. Can the elements that were combined for a time re-combine later in another world and be resurrected as a log, or as something else? No.

Can the logs that were good logs and that burned well be elevated in some next life into some "higher form," maybe a lovely log cabin on a mountainside? No. Will the bad logs that were still green and did not burn so well be subjected to another cycling as a "lower form," maybe as a rock? No.

And during the manifested days of its logness, can the log be interfered with or offended? No. In fact, is the log any less a mirage - any less misperceived - than the smoke rising from the fire this morning? No. Logs engage with nothing that is not real.

So it can also be among persons as well if they but realize that distortions are distortions and then understand the Truth that can be known but that cannot be stated.

THE COMPOSITE UNITY Re-Visited, Part One

Here, there is nothing that is believed, so there is no one here who wants you to believe anything, either. Here, the invitation is to be free of all that you have been programmed, conditioned, acculturated, and domesticated to believe so that you can be free, period.

Furthermore, for those who have developed a preference for any non-nisargan yoga or who prefer Traditional Advaita Vedanta, Neo-Advaita, Neo-Vedanta, or Pseudo Advaita: here you will only find the use of the Direct Path Method of teaching along with the Nisarga (Natural) Yoga, all shared in simple, everyday English.

FROM A SITE VISITOR: Understanding your teachings about the composite unity is at least for now providing some real relief. Thanx.

F.: Well, the composite unity is not "my teachings." It is a part of "the teachings." Many have sent comments like yours, though, with a few inquiries about that understanding, so further discussion will follow.

First, understand that the "journey" begins not with finding out who you are (or Who / What You Are) but with finding out all that you are not. The identity triad of body-mind-personality must be discarded during the early steps along the "path," well before any final clarity comes about a non-phenomenal identity (or even no identity).

Thus, in the interim along the way, being able to answer questions about "the identity of the Am-ness" can lead to an early level of freedom if the body-mind-personality triad is replaced with an understanding of the triad of elements-air-energy (a.k.a., "the composite unity").

A man arrives today from Costa Rica for a one-on-one retreat. He was advised to bring some warm clothing because temperatures may dip below the freezing mark during his days here. Breakfast is served here each morning of the retreat, so a fire will be built early tomorrow near the breakfast area to reduce the morning chill for all.

[The fire will be preferred because the temperatures during his visit will be unusual for one leaving behind the warmer climate in Costa Rica, and such low temperatures are also fairly uncommon for residents in the Houston / Lake Conroe area, "winter" here usually being limited to the 22nd, 23rd, and 24th of February.]

Which brings the discussion to Big Mama's Firewood Service. For years, firewood has been purchased from Big Mama, one labeled by many as "an African-American woman"; here, however, the only temporary label used to point to Big Mama is ... Love.

She has faced the inequality of opportunity for minorities in the United States, inequities that still exist, that are very much widespread, and that expose the lies told here that "all are created equal" and "all are treated equally in the U.S."

In spite of all odds, she has faced for seven decades or so those limited prospects due to race and has nevertheless met the expenses of providing the basic needs of her children and her grandchildren and herself by happily and joyfully cutting up trees that are blown over during regular storm or hurricane events.

Most tree services charge hundreds or thousands per tree to remove fallen trees from the property of homeowners, and then they sell that wood for a double profit. Big Mama removes fallen trees without charge if she is given the wood.

So for decades, Big Mama's sole income has been derived from cutting trees, from cutting tree trunks into 20-30 inch lengths, from splitting that wood into logs for firewood, and from stacking the logs outside to age.

Then she either delivers trailer-loads of ready-to-burn logs to clients or she sits in the cold on the side of the road when arctic fronts bring cold air to the area and sells $8 stacks of wood from the back of her truck.

[Regarding deliveries: should you reside in this area and place an order with Big Mama, be certain to hug her upon arrival. If she receives a hug, the wood will be unloaded from her trailer for free by some of her family members; otherwise, no hug? Stack it yourself.]

Big Mama has been observed for the past ten years, sitting in a folding lawn chair next to a stack of wood on the side of the main road that passes through this area, a small umbrella being her only defense against drizzle or rain or sleet or an occasional but rare snow.

Her perseverance stirs the hearts of all except those who have no ability to feel the pain or suffering of persons on this planet, yet there has never been any evidence at all that Big Mama can be affected in the least by the vicissitudes of nature or man. That is the way it can be for all on the "path" if they understand the composite unity.

So what can be understood about the composite unity from the wood that Big Mama delivered this season, logs which will be burned tomorrow morning while the seeker from Costa Rica is here? Consider:

What is a tree but a collection of elements that have come together temporarily to form (1) a space in which the consciousness has manifested temporarily and (2) a space that circulates oxygen? As always, the pointer here is that there is no difference in any "things" on the planet except for the rate at which the energy within vibrates.

Thus, a "human" is also a collection of elements with a temporary manifestation of a quantity of conscious-energy and with oxygen circulating into and out of the space. Is there any difference in what is called "a tree" and "a human"? No. Consider also:

A plant / tree uses carbon dioxide and water to make sugar. Oxygen is left over after that process. The plant or tree will use part of the supply of oxygen itself for respiration, but there is more than enough left over which is unwanted and unneeded by the tree.

The surplus, therefore, is released into the atmosphere and provides oxygen for humans and other forms as well. So the tree, as is the case with humans, is composed of a combination of elements; the tree, as is the case with humans, circulates oxygen; and the tree, as is the case with humans, provides a space in which conscious-energy can temporarily manifest.

Yet how many persons are totally free of the influence of ego-state assumption and its accompanying egotism and therefore able to admit that they are no more "special" or "different" or "unique" than the ugliest, most deformed tree on the planet?

How many persons on the planet can never be offended, as is the case with the one that can ask, "WHO - what part of this temporarily manifested unity - can be offended? The oxygen part? The energy part? The element part? Of course, the answer is 'no part.'

"There is no WHO because there is no WHONESS associated with any of the three parts of the composite unity; therefore, there is no part of those three that can be offended, so there is no part of the triad that can be robbed of total freedom and total peace."

You will recognize that you have returned to your natural state by a complete absence of all desire and fear. After all, at the root of all desire and fear is the feeling of not being what you are. Just as a dislocated joint pains only as long as it is out of shape, and is forgotten as soon as it is set right, so is all self-concern a symptom of mental distortion which disappears as soon as one is in the normal state. – Nisargadatta Maharaj

The Conditioned Eye sees from the vantage point of separation and egoic-self interest.
The Natural Gaze sees no separation, no dualism, no separate self, Oneness.
In nature, it is natural and normal for animals to take actions to protect and preserve life. There is a movement away from threat and danger, for example loud noises, machinery, hunters with guns; there is a movement towards that which preserves and sustains life, for example shaded locations in hot weather, fresh clean drinking water, natural food.

This natural impulse exists for humans too. Maharaj often commented on the love for the “I Am” and the movement to protect and sustain it.

However, trapped in conditioning, this natural movement towards survival is corrupted and distorted. Most persons, identified with personality, perceive the world through the filter of a shifting and unstable collection of ego personas. As already mentioned in previous posts, these ego personas are not real. They are simply a mind stream of thought, memory and concept. They are like smoke, or like mirages. Yet, for most persons who walk the planet, the actions taken are not for the protection and preservation of the body + consciousness, but for the preservation of these mirage-like ego personas.

Take for example the adult trapped in the narcissistic persona of His/Her Majesty, the Baby, as described by Floyd in a recent series. The natural movement to sustain the body, may easily be distorted or corrupted into sustaining the desires and sense of entitlement of this false persona, with abundant and luxurious food and drink choices – resulting in obesity, addictions, high cholesterol, heart problems, diabetes, etc. Can you see that the person is not sustaining the physical body naturally, but is sustaining the desires of an ego persona unnaturally?
This is just one simple example. For most persons, the basic human needs for food, shelter and clothing are distorted in this way.

The personas are illusory; they are mind streams that take illusory shape through an endless stream of desires and fears. It is impossible to protect or preserve them. This causes on-going stress and suffering. How can you “protect” an illusion? How can you fulfil the desires and assuage the fears of an illusion? You cannot.

As always, the invitation of the Advaitin Teaching is to see with clear sight. It is not necessary to engage with these personas, but simply to look directly and see that they are not fixed or solid, but a constantly shifting and changing stream, ephemeral, like smoke. Simply observe the desires and fears as they arise; notice how unstable and fluctuating they are. See the ever-changing filters that are produced that condition or block the view of the totality.

Notice that this unnatural functioning is the absence of freedom. Driven by ego, by desires and fears, persons are jerked robotically into dramas and dilemmas produced by their conditioning. They are pushed and pulled by the ups and downs, the highs and lows of the relative existence.

As Maharaj explains: Without it [self-realization], you will be consumed by desires and fears, repeating themselves meaninglessly in endless suffering. Most of the people do not know that there can be an end to pain. But once they have heard the good news, obviously going beyond all strife and struggle is the most urgent task that can be. You know that you can be free and now it is up to you. Either you remain forever hungry and thirsty, longing, searching, grabbing, holding, ever losing and sorrowing, or go out wholeheartedly in search of the state of timeless perfection to which nothing can be added, from which nothing taken away. In it all desires and fears are absent, not because they were given up, but because they have lost their meaning.

Are you still perceiving the world through the filters of phantom personas? Are you driven by fluctuating desires and fears? Take courage. Simply to recognise this fact, and to have the longing for self-realization is significant. Most persons are so out of touch with their own suffering, that it seems natural and normal. For them, to function unnaturally in a world of separation pushed and pulled by desires and fears seems natural and normal. The Advaitin Teachings give you a different message; a message of hope and the possibility of freedom from suffering. All that is required is for you to look directly, to understand, to allow the fog of conditioning to dissipate, until you reside in your natural state. The thorns to remove thorns, or the series of understandings that will allow the realization of your true nature to dawn, are explained in the ebook From the I to the Absolute.
