YOUR ORIGINAL NATURE

VISITOR: I take from what you said today [received 13 May 2012] that only about 1/2 of 1% of Earth's seven billion people have "an accurate BS detector." I am starting to see why I've had so much trouble -- I've never been able to "wrap my head around" the point that I should question everything and see that it might all be nonsense (or "BS"). Some things? Sure. All things? No. But that is changing. Yesterday, I heard a woman say this to my wife: "

After three surgeries from three different doctors with three different explanations about why I have so much pain in my hands, I've become very angry with God at this point. All my life, He has intervened and brought me financial success and has answered my prayers for healing, but now it's not happening and I'm really furious with God right now. My priest said it's OK, that God is big enough to handle my anger until I get over it, but I don't want to get over it. I'm pissed."

And I questioned what I was hearing, like, you've become very old - maybe your earlier prayers for healing weren't answered either -- maybe you just bounced back better from illness when you were young. Or maybe God did not make you wealthy (and make other people poor? I saw the duality!) Or maybe there were genetic factors that made you healthy and helped make you a success in business. Am I finally on the right track? Thanx for answering and thanx the site!

F.: You are only on "the right track" if you are following the step-wise process and taking the steps that must be completed in the exact, but reverse order, of the way that led to your believing everything rather than questioning everything.

First, to that woman. She can illustrate the relevance of several pointers shared often on this site over the last six-and-a-half-years or so:

1. pain is of the body;

2. misery and suffering are of the "mind";

3. the "mind" is the seat of duality and nonsense, the "home" of all personality / personalities, and the storehouse of the cumulative BS that has been dreamed up and passed down as "truth" and "fact" by ignorant and superstitious and magically-thinking persons for many millennia;

4. personalities all have desires and fears that inspire persons to want power and to desire control (which generate ignorance and chaos in the process of seeking power and control); and

5. all who are not Realized suffer from the Addictive Personality Disorder because they:

a. are trapped in personality;

b. are suffering from humanity's primary addiction (which is the addiction to control); and

c. are suffering from humanity's secondary addiction (which is the addiction to relative power as well as the addiction to a "Higher" or "Supernatural" Power, or Powers) in order to be able to control.

The one said to be "my closest friend" works as a professional counselor, and she explains to those types that the non-Realized either attach to an internal locus of control or to an external locus of control as a result of humanity's addictions to control and power / Power.

Some, for example ...

believe in an external locus of control ...

believe that there is Someone (some Power or multiple Powers / Gods "out there") who are in charge of everything that happens to each of the seven billion people on this planet every second of their existence ...

believe that their God or Gods and Goddesses will intervene upon request in behalf of those who are "good" ...

and

believe that their external Power or Powers determine whatever happens or does not happen every second of every day and night.

Those types believe that, because they live "the right way" for the most part, they can tap into a Super Power's power in order to give such persons power and control over relative events.

Some types, such as egomaniacs and bosses and bullies and narcissists, believe in

their own distorted version of an internal locus of control,

believe consciously or subconsciously that THEY are the power / The Power and

believe that they have within them the power to control everyone and everything.

Those types generate much of the chaos on the planet because they control big business, big government, big religion, big militaries, legislative bodies, etc. all around the globe.

Then there are the Realized that do, indeed, enjoy an internal locus ... but theirs is not an imaginary locus of control but is an internal locus of understanding, reason, rationality, logic, sensibility, sanity, and no-mind wisdom.

The Realized try to tap neither into imaginary external powers / Powers nor into internal delusions of power; instead, they tap into the inner guru.

That is, they tap into the "inner resource," to use Bill W.'s term from his essay Spiritual Experience: "With few exceptions our members find that they have tapped an unsuspected inner resource which they presently identify with their own conception of a Power greater than themselves" (that is, "than their false selves").

Thus, millions around the globe who are members of the groups that have come about as a result of his program totally misunderstand that the "Higher Power of your own conception" that he and other founders spoke of was not an external locus of control but is an internal locus of understanding, reason, rationality, logic, sensibility, sanity, and no-mind wisdom.

By finally questioning the reality of an imaginary external locus of control as well as the imaginary internal locus of control-giving relative power, you may indeed be ready to enter onto "the right track" after all and then complete the precise steps to Realization in the precise order in which they must be completed.

F.: Answering questions received:

QUESTION: "A friend did the enneagram sessions with you and said he understands for the first time ever what has been driving him all his life and why teachers have taught that personality must go in order to be free. He also said you told him that if someone understands the enneagram, she / he can listen to the words of someone for a matter of minutes and be able to determine their dominate type. So what was Maharaj's dominate type?"

F.: Of the nine basic personality types, Maharaj was a Type Four: the type that can be trapped in a "fantasy self" as a result of isolating as a child in order to avoid abusive or insane authority, but also the type most likely - as a result - to be willing someday to question everything; to rebel against widely-held but nonsensical beliefs set forth by authority figures; and to enter wholeheartedly into the search for the Authentic Self;

the type most likely to question all so-called "authorities" (including most parents, most teachers, almost all political leaders, all religious leaders, military leaders, the police, etc.) who believe that they should never be questioned;

the type that is often viewed by cultures and societies to be "individualists" or "nonconformists" or "different," meaning that Type Four's "march to the beat of a different drummer" and are never the type to be like sheep that "go along with" or that play "follow the leader";

the type most likely to be comfortable in solitude; the type most likely to look objectively at their relative thoughts and words and deeds and see the facts, "warts" and all, rather than try to put a spin on the facts and cover up the facts of their relative existence which are calling for change and Realization;

the type most likely to be in touch with their intuitive talent for differentiating true from false; the type that early on had an active, innate, and accurate BS detector; and the type most likely to seek Truth and Reality and authenticity.

One of the people who led me to an understanding of how the enneagram can be used not only with non-duality seekers but also with business owners and their employees wrote this about Type Fours:

1. They can be "profoundly creative" and can "express the personal and the universal."

2. They are often "inspired" and "profoundly creative."

3. They are the most likely to engage in the "search for Self."

4. They are the most likely to be "introspective" and "true to Self."

5. Ultimately, they are the most likely to become "Self-Aware."

Their numbers around the globe might also reveal why so few ever seek and Realize Fully: while they are the most likely to seek the Authentic Self, Type Fours account for the fewest number of people among any of the nine basic personality types (totaling only about 1/2 of 1% of the seven billion persons on the planet).

F.: Answering questions received:

QUESTION: In today's post [received 11 May 2012] you said "some might have a series of awakenings along the way until the Full Awakening happens." I recall the frustration when you were guiding me along the path and I thought at every step that I had finally gotten it (ha!) only to have you tell me that I had not gotten it at all and to keep moving through the rest of the steps. Then I read "some might have a series of awakenings along the way until the Full Awakening happens" and with the present perspective was able to see exactly how my ego (egos?) were trying to convince me to believe I was Fully Awake long before I was. So now, the question is, what if I am still jumping the gun and am not yet Fully Awake but just believing / dreaming that I am?

F.: A similar remark was received from another site regular last week. He came to the conclusion that it does not matter in the least if he or I or anyone else could prove that he is Fully Awake or not. The fact is, as he explained, that he is freer and more at peace and happier than at any point in his entire existence, so now he's just going to dance the dance lightly and continue to enjoy whatever the new condition is without feeling compelled to prove anything or label anything.

QUESTION: "You say to question everything, so im going to question you and Maharaj both. i read words about love and being at one and all, but i simply cant buy into the fact that you really are at one with all or that he was either.

He kicked out of sessions some seekers who had come to visit him, and his anger was evident to me. i read the parts of the book on original nature you posted last week and i find it very difficult to believe that you felt at one with the loud woman who scared away the deer that you and girl were looking at. Your reply?

F.: You are "one for two." First, to M. The people forced to leave the loft had not "come to visit him"; nor were they "seekers." They were personas who had came to show off their knowledge, to try to impress others, or to try to find an audience before whom they could display their supposedly advanced religious roles or their supposedly superior spiritual roles.

M. was not sending away seekers, for such types who were tossed out were not seeking anything, certain instead that they had already found it all and were wanting to show off that fact to an audience that had come to hear M., not those types there to show off and interrupt. When such specks of blocked energy were interfering with the opportunity of the earnest seekers who were present - seekers in whom the readiness had actually manifested - then any interference was brought to an end. So you are in error about M., leaving you "0 for 1" at this point.

But you are correct that I did not "feel at one with the loud woman who scared away the deer that the girl and I were watching," so you're "1 for 2" ... to a degree.

Here is what you are not understanding: the Real is One with the Real, with Reality. The Real is never at one with the not-Real, and cannot possibly be at one with any anything that is unReal.

Standing on a mountainside in the Rocky Mountains and watching a beautiful sunset, it is possible for one to feel at one with nature; to watch the sunset while holding someone in your arms and sharing that beauty, one can also feel a sense of at-one-ment as

... Reality is being reflected in the relative happening or as

... Reality is being overlaid on the relative or as

... Reality is being "merged" with the relative as a physical act is adumbrating the non-physical sense of being At One.

But if one drives out of the mountains the next morning and by midday is driving across a desert and sees a mirage in the road ahead, the Realized cannot feel at one with the mirage.

"The Super Religious Knowers" or "The Spiritual Giants" who showed up in M.'s loft were not the Real; of course, therefore, Maharaj could not have possibly felt at one with either of those mirages. They were merely false roles that were being played.

The rude woman you mentioned who scared away the deer was not Real. A body-cum-blocked-consciousness came into our vicinity, generated loud noises, and disturbed the peace. The deer ran away, but would you conclude that the deer judged her and found her lacking and left because they felt they were better than her?

Would you conclude that a deer (elements / air / conscious-energy) is different from a woman (elements / air / conscious-energy)? The only "difference" was the condition of the manifested consciousness: temporary in both instances, blocked in one case but not in the other.

The silence is natural for the deer, as is the case with all that is abiding naturally. To move away from noise and the noisy is not evidence of judging and hating; it is evidence of the natural propensity of the Realized - and of all things abiding naturally - to be quiet and to move to places that are quiet. Neither "Floyd" nor "The Deer" hated the woman, but neither wanted to be in the presence of the noise emanating from therein.

So the error in your reasoning is that you believe the Realized claim to be at one with both the Real and the UnReal, and that is not the case at all.

As another example, consider the actor George Clooney, admired (if not "loved") by millions around the globe. Many have been heard to say, "I just love him. He seems so modest, he cares so much about people being killed around the globe ... he's just a really wonderful man."

Relatively speaking, maybe so; but is their perception of the Real or of what they are imagining ... of an image? They actually know neither "george" nor "George."

Now consider a couple of cases that reveal a bit less delusion: "I don't know Leonardo DiCaprio or Kate Winslet at all, but I really felt I came to know the characters they played in 'Titanic' and I really enjoyed the roles that both played";

or, "I don't know Scarlett Johansson or Robert Downey, Jr. at all, but I really felt I came to know the characters they played in 'The Avengers' and I really enjoyed the roles that both played."

See the difference? See the differentiation in the Real vs. roles being played?

Yet how many enter into a "relationship," only to say later after it ends in an unpleasant fashion, "I guess you never know anyone, really"?

It is one thing to claim to be "at one with 'The Most Handsome / The Most Beautiful' Person I Have Ever Seen"; that statement is about body and image. It is something quite different when the Reality of Real Love allowed Maharaj to say, "Love is knowing that I am Everything."

Again, with the Realized, the awareness of being At One rests in the understanding of That Which is Real and That Which Is Actually One and applies not at all to anything else that is false, including personas. By definition, the REALized can never be at one with the not-REAL.
