No Interest in Being Truly Free and Independent 

THE MASSES PREFER DEPENDENCY AND CODEPENDENCY AND ATTACHMENT TO THINGS WHICH ROB PERSONS OF THEIR FREEDOM

[Continued from yesterday]

Of the factors which drive persons to be dependent and codependent and to forfeit their freedom, one dynamic which is often never considered is this: 

Often, there is a fear of being totally independent. And what is the root of such fear? As noted yesterday, the hidden agendas of false identities, of assumed or assigned personalities, of roles being played. 

In the book entitled Overcoming the Fear of Being Totally Independent

the personal-identification-link between fear and dependency is discussed. 

As an example, consider the person who has been programmed, conditioned, etc. to be “The Super Religious One” who believes that a lack of faith in “God” will result in eternal punishment. 

Consider the fear that can come if that person / persona is invited to consider the possibility that there is no God so there cannot be any eternal reward or eternal punishment. 

In that regard, recall that in addition to every ego-state generating a basic fear, it also generates a basic desire; thus, a “double whammy” can manifest: 

Not only is there often a fear of eternal punishment if not totally dependent on God but also a desire to have an eternal reward for having played the role of a "Dependent Believer."

So there again are two of the major afflictions of personality which non-dualists have discussed for centuries, namely, disproportionate fears and obstructed desires, both of which generate frustration and anger and even rage. 

In the introduction of the book referenced above, the following is offered for consideration: 

Of the thousands of pointers offered by Maharaj that proved to be germane to seekers, one – in the estimation of some - ranks among the most pertinent and unequivocal and illuminating that he ever shared:

" . . . You are afraid of freedom!" 

-Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj 

In the early stage of beginning some "work" with a seeker, he asked a qualifying question: "How free do you want to be?" 

The reply: "Why . . . totally." 

His response: "We shall see." 

And soon, he did indeed see. What was seen by both that seeker (and this seeker as well) was that there was no more of a desire to be TOTALLY free than there is a desire among the non-realized for the manifestation of the consciousness to end instantly. 

It would be years before full realization happened here, and it would not be until full realization happened that TOTAL freedom not only manifested but was gladly welcomed. 

Why do persons (that is, the non-realized who assume a variety of personas as identities) actually do not find total freedom appealing at all, truth be known? What is it about most cultures that nurture and even reward dependence? What is it about personality and personas that automatically require dependence and co-dependency rather than independence? 

The 97% of the 7.7 billion people polled worldwide who say that they are affiliated with an organized religion were taught early on to be dependent on one god or another (or even many). The millions in step groups are similarly taught to be dependent on an external, otherworldly power. 

Too, as noted earlier, every ego-state adopted as an identity must have a co-dependent counterpart and will be dependent on another person to sustain every false identity assumed. 

(For example, a spouse must have a spouse to supposedly "exist"; an employee must have an employer to supposedly "exist"; a teacher must have students to supposedly "exist"; etc.) 

Add to that the fact that fifty-percent of the people on planet earth are Personality Types Sixes who are embroiled in fear and are thus dependent types; then add to that a large percentage who are Personality Type Twos and Threes and Nines who have a strong sense of entitlement and are therefore dependent types. 

In fact, most cultures on the planet inspire dependence rather than independence, so it is little wonder that so few will realize fully and actually become totally free. 

Yet freedom is the prerequisite for peace, so it is also little wonder that so few will realize fully and be at peace. 

So the questions for every seeker and reader are, 

1. "How free do you really want to be?" 

2. "Is it possible that Maharaj's pointer - 'You are afraid of freedom' - might be based at least to some degree in fact?" 

and 

3. "If so, might you be interested in certain considerations which might assist in overcoming that fear of total freedom?"

THE EXPLANATION 

If looked at as nouns, they point to illusions and are, therefore, a total waste of time to even discuss; if looked at as verbs which are resulting in certain sane but rare behaviors among humanity, then they are worthy of some attention during the relative existence. 

Meaning? There are members of certain groups who say things such as "My concept of God in the past was of a weak God, an absentee God, A Santa Claus-type God, a mean, punishing, vindictive God, etc. Today, I am in close contact with a loving and caring God whom I worship and praise and glorify and give thanks to." 

The reply to that usually goes like this: "If you are in contact with a God that wants to be worshipped and praised and glorified, then you're dealing with someone like yourself - a narcissist - and hanging out with narcissists will never bring an end to your narcissism (that narcissism evidenced by the fact that you think you are "godly"). 

Next, in the phrase 'loving and caring God,' any supposed God that truly had her or his act together would tell you that the totally irrelevant part of that phrase is 'God' and that the only part that is relevant is the "loving and caring" part. 

"That is, a non-narcissistic god / goddess would say, "I care not an iota about being worshipped and praised and glorified by you or anyone else. How arrogant and insecure and needy would I have to be to want that? Forget the man-made, dreamed up noun 'God' and focus on the 'God as a verb' understanding and then go forth and let loving and caring be verbs - not adjectives - and let them generate the act of love and the act of caring and let those actions manifest through you." 

Yeshu'a (Jesus) and Pope John Paul II and Pope Francis were spot on: 

"No one shall ever see 'the kingdom of heaven.' It is within" 

--Yeshu'a (Jesus) 

and 

"Heaven and earth shall fade away." 

--Yeshu'a (Jesus) 

and 

"Heaven and hell are not geographic places 

but are states of mind, nothing more than 

concepts dreamed up by men." 

--Pope John Paul II 

"There is no hell." 

--Pope Francis, the current pope 

in an interview with journalist Eugenio Scalfari, 

a writer used by the Pope to issue off the record 

teachings which become a part of the Papal Magisterium. 

[That said, would that the popes who have shown the courage to reject a core concept of their dogma - namely, "hell" - would find the additional courage required to question the very existence of their institution in light of the centuries-long cover-up of their history of raping children and in light of the mental and emotional and psychological scarring of billions of their members past and present. 

And that need for courage also applies as questions need to be asked about why so many other sky cults are still being supported and allowed to continue to exist as well. When certain types of programming and conditioning have been shown to blind the masses, they should end. Will they? Not likely. Why? 

Because what the masses think and say and do is most influenced by the international crime families which hold sway over the masses as criminals conduct their planet-wide operations. What are the major international crime families and which are the most influential and have the largest memberships? 

The Mafia / La Cosa Nostra; the Catholic Church (with it 1.2 billion followers); Protestant and Evangelical Churches (with over 1.2 billion followers) like the one I was raised in where the youth director molested and sexually assaulted young girls; big business which has long created environments in which people have been abused; powerful political bodies like the U.S. Congress, etc., etc., etc.) 

With all of those crime families, neither the followers nor the leadership ever voluntarily step down or shut down their criminal activities. Be they gangs, organized crime families, religions, big business, politicians, etc., they all want control and they all want power and they all want money, and nothing internal will interfere with the driving forces at play. 

The masses must demand that all those in charge must step down and their groups and institutions must shut down, and there's the real problem because the continuation of their crimes are enabled not as much by the people running such crime organizations as they are enabled by the masses of people who - wanting some perceived "payoff" - remain involved with them and give them money and support them and aid and abet the continued existence of those criminal enterprises and thus facilitate the ability of church criminals and political criminals and other types of criminals to continue to commit their crimes.]

THE MASSES PREFER DEPENDENCY AND CODEPENDENCY AND ATTACHMENT TO THINGS WHICH ROB PERSONS OF THEIR FREEDOM 

There are hundreds of definitions of “freedom” and many thousands of ideas about what freedom is and what freedom is not. 

I received an email recently from a woman in Mexico whom I’ve worked with in the past in terms of personality inventory and freedom from entrapment in mind and personality identifications and from attachment to a seriously-unhealthy and freedom-robbing relationship. 

In the years since we last met, she finally divorced and reported that she has been reveling for some time in her new state of freedom. 

For her, that included freedom from being involved with any and all of the things that had been brought into her marriage which she had been required to be engaged in, including “spirituality,” and “recovery” and “personal growth” and, yes, even “non-duality” as well as high levels of fanaticism around those things (all of which her mate and his acquaintances were absorbed with and all of which they wanted her to be as fanatical about as they were). 

Indeed, I had pointed out to them how “busy” they were with all of those things which had become the center of their existence as well as the "prisons" which had robbed her of her freedom and independence and ability to choose (as opposed to being controlled and driven). 

Maharaj could have related, and so did I. 

Regular visitors here know that his wife Sumatibai was a devout Hindu. By contrast, Maharaj’s family of origin was not especially involved with religion and neither was he. 

His guru did encourage him to offer bhajans with their singing and dancing in order to attract locals to his flat with the intent of slipping non-dual pointers into those activities, but Maharaj was not especially interested in religion beyond using it as “a draw.” 

Those who knew Sumatibai described her as “a nag” and “very bossy” and “controlling,” constantly on Maharaj’s case about not being religious enough, among other complaints. In the 1940’s she died and, within a short time, acquaintances began trying to “set Maharaj up” with this woman or that woman. 

Matchmakers came out of the woodwork, it seemed. Maharaj was not interested. As was the case with the woman who contacted me from Mexico, and in the case here, and in Maharaj’s case, there came after a divorce / a death an end to years of constant exposure to the Personality Type Eight (Controllers and Bosses) in our lives along with an overwhelming sense of relief, of new-found freedom. 

Eventually, when one frustrated, would-be matchmaker asked Maharaj why he refused to re-marry, he answered, “Because I have already re-married.” A look of confusion clouded the man’s face, knowing full well that Maharaj had not married anyone at all. When he challenged Maharaj, Maharaj explained, “Oh yes, I truly am presently married. I am married to freedom.” 

But many do not want to divorce in order to truly be free. They are the dependent and co-dependent types who are willing to give up their freedom if a person or institution will take care of them by providing food, clothing, shelter, medical care, etc. 

Others give up their freedom for those basics plus a rich lifestyle to boot. 

Some feel entitled (often because of their attractive physical appearance and body), and they give up their freedom because they believe that they should not have to work to meet their own needs but deserve to have someone else meet their needs for them. 

Yet there are so many other forms of freedom which most never consider seeking, such as: 

1. Freedom from body identification (of the type which says “I work out daily to keep these abs which assure I get the attention I want” or of the type whose father - mentioned here earlier - who said to his daughter, “I’m not going to waste money sending you to college. You’re got a beautiful face and a great body, so it’ll be easy for you to find a wealthy man who will take care of you”). 

2. Freedom from the mind which has been filled with the beliefs of others and freedom from the notion that one must go weekly or daily or many times a day to meet with those who will reinforce the beliefs they pass on in recovery programs, spiritual programs, religious groups and a host of other cults and sky cults. 

3. Freedom from personal identifications which subconsciously drive thoughts and words and actions. 

[Every personal identification / ego-state / role / persona / etc. has a primary desire and a primary fear which generate emotional intoxication. Those desires and fears subconsciously drive one’s thoughts and words and actions. If one has assumed 80 roles (not an uncommon scenario) then there are a potential 160 unhealthy emotions which are capable of producing stress, anxiety, frustration around unmet desires, etc.]

Also, no persona can stand alone. All requires a codependent, counterpart player in order to be thought to exist. (“The Spouse” cannot be thought to exist without “a spouse,” for example.) 

An illustration used here is this: if you are being driven – say, in a car – there are three places you can be and one place you cannot be: 

You can be in the passenger seat, in the back seat, or in the trunk / boot. Where can you not be? In the driver’s seat; therefore, you have no say in where you go, how you go, if the car stays in its lane, or if the car drives off the road into a ditch or over an adjacent cliff. 

To be driven is to have a total lack of freedom, and personal identifications drive persons. 

4. Another freedom many never even consider is freedom from beliefs. The fact: 

Regardless of how proud one might be of her so-called beliefs or his so-called beliefs, there is actually no such thing. There are only “their beliefs” which have been accepted as “your beliefs” and stored in your mind and prized as if they were uniquely yours and uniquely precious. 

They can include religious beliefs or spiritual beliefs; political beliefs; beliefs about the inferiority of “others”; xenophobic beliefs; philosophical beliefs; beliefs about what relationships should be like; 

value-based beliefs about what is good and what is bad; about what people should do and what they should not do; about how they should think or not think; about drinking or not drinking; about how money should be managed, or not; 

about the best economic system and the worst economic system; about the best form of government and the worst; about what jobs are okay and what jobs are not okay; about sex and what positions are okay and which ones are not; about sexual preference; 

about suitable garb and unsuitable garb; about the right kind of haircut and the wrong kind of hairstyle (with Pentecostals, for example, telling women not to cut their hair and certain other religious groups telling men they should shave their heads); ad infinitum. 

So many beliefs, and most are consciously ignored and accepted on a subconscious level and then they drive persons in totally unconscious ways. 

5. And how free is someone who is told that they must attend meetings on a daily basis or a weekly basis or even five times a day? How free is one who allows others to dictate what he or she must do for hours every day or week? 

Moreover, have you ever thoroughly studied the actual level of attachment you have to relationships and to body and to mind and to personality and to caretakers and to beliefs and to your schedule and seen how those can rob persons of their freedom? 

Have you see the hundreds of other ways and means which can rob persons of their freedom? 

How devoted are you, really, to being totally free and totally independent?

Having a Propensity for Magical, Supernatural, Unquestioned Beliefs 

MAGICAL, SUPERNATURAL, UNQUESTIONED BELIEFS 

To review: 

Some of the consequences of being programmed and conditioned to think magically / supernaturally / religiously / spiritually - that is, to believe the myths and superstitions and lies that one is told without ever questioning their validity or lack thereof – were shared: 

Being fooled; used; hoodwinked; duped; conned; deceived; and bamboozled. 

And the result of being fooled, used, hoodwinked, duped, conned, deceived and bamboozled? 

Constantly being disturbed, angry, enraged, infuriated, and incensed, as in . . . 

In recent years, would-be tyrants, in order to consolidate their power, have used . . . 

the feeding of their enemies to 120 hungry hounds, 

lethal injections,

beheadings, 

firing squads, 

firing antiaircraft machine guns and rockets into bodies at close range, 

and 

a host of other barbaric ways to slaughter those they fear or those who stand in their way. 

Those in nations where democracy has not yet been totally obliterated often must be more subtle in the beginning, starting out by undermining among their followers such institutions as the free press, resulting in an uninformed populous; 

undermining other investigatory organizations; the judiciary; the nation’s department of justice or whatever its counterpart is called in various countries; minority religions . . . and eventually all religions as well as all opposition parties or groups. 

What is required for such tyrants to eventually take total control? 

As uninformed populous as mentioned above; 

the fomenting of anger and rage by use of propaganda and demagogy and lies; 

the widespread manifestation of the symptoms which Maharaj said come with the Ultimate Sickness, namely, “ignorance, stupidity, and insanity”; 

and

a population which has been subjected to generations of ignorant, stupid, and insane programming, conditioning, etc. 

In other words, more “suckers” in the population than “non-suckers”  are required.

A phrase attributed to P. T. Barnum (though there is no proof he actually came up with that quote) is this: "There’s a sucker born every minute.” Of course that is not true.

More accurately, what can be said is that there are thousands upon thousands of suckers being made every second as the non-realized masses are programming and conditioning their children first and then a population of adults later and leading them to develop the symptoms of the Ultimate Sickness. The result? 

The programmed and conditioned masses end up being suckers who, throughout their entire relative existence, will be driven unconsciously by ignorance, stupidity, and insanity - all leading to a lack of peace and to entrapment in chaos and anger and even rage. 

And what sets the masses up to buy into the nonsense they hear from authority figures? 

Ninety-seven percent claim to be affiliated with one organized religion or another, so ninety-seven percent are being programmed and conditioned to believe without any questioning at all anything and everything that they are told, no matter how outrageous and unbelievable the tale is. 

That is, of course, totally unnatural. Children, upon first hearing the BS offered in such venues, do naturally and automatically question: 

“No way!” 

“You’ve got to be kidding, right?!”

“That’s impossible!” 

But the absence of blind faith in children is soon scared or beaten out of them, and they eventually “fall in line” with the “company line / lie” which is being repeated over and over to them and to the adults around them. 

The result of that? A global population that has been taught to think magically / supernaturally / religiously / spiritually and to be totally out of touch with reality and logic and truth and rationality and their original tendency to question authority and outrageous claims and absurd tales.

Again, Maharaj made clear that fools are those who accept “learned ignorance” without ever questioning it. 

What an insane state of affairs on planet earth, yes?

THE EXPLANATION 

If looked at as nouns, they point to illusions and are, therefore, a total waste of time to even discuss; if looked at as verbs which are resulting in certain sane but rare behaviors among humanity, then they are worthy of some attention during the relative existence. 

Meaning? There are members of certain groups who say things such as "My concept of God in the past was of a weak God, an absentee God, A Santa Claus-type God, a mean, punishing, vindictive God, etc. Today, I am in close contact with a loving and caring God whom I worship and praise and glorify and give thanks to." 

The reply to that usually goes like this: "If you are in contact with a God that wants to be worshipped and praised and glorified, then you're dealing with someone like yourself - a narcissist - and hanging out with narcissists will never bring an end to your narcissism (that narcissism evidenced by the fact that you think you are "godly"). 

Next, in the phrase 'loving and caring God,' any supposed God that truly had her or his act together would tell you that the totally irrelevant part of that phrase is 'God' and that the only part that is relevant is the "loving and caring" part. 

"That is, a non-narcissistic god / goddess would say, "I care not an iota about being worshipped and praised and glorified by you or anyone else. How arrogant and insecure and needy would I have to be to want that? Forget the man-made, dreamed up noun 'God' and focus on the 'God as a verb' understanding and then go forth and let loving and caring be verbs - not adjectives - and let them generate the act of love and the act of caring and let those actions manifest through you." 

Yeshu'a (Jesus) and Pope John Paul II and Pope Francis were spot on: 

"No one shall ever see 'the kingdom of heaven.' It is within"

"Heaven and earth shall fade away."

"Heaven and hell are not geographic places 

but are states of mind, nothing more than 

concepts dreamed up by men."

teachings which become a part of the Papal Magisterium. 

[That said, would that the popes who have shown the courage to reject a core concept of their dogma - namely, "hell" - would find the additional courage required to question the very existence of their institution in light of the centuries-long cover-up of their history of raping children and in light of the mental and emotional and psychological scarring of billions of their members past and present. 

And that need for courage also applies as questions need to be asked about why so many other sky cults are still being supported and allowed to continue to exist as well. When certain types of programming and conditioning have been shown to blind the masses, they should end. Will they? Not likely. Why? 

Because what the masses think and say and do is most influenced by the international crime families which hold sway over the masses as criminals conduct their planet-wide operations. What are the major international crime families and which are the most influential and have the largest memberships? 

The Mafia / La Cosa Nostra; the Catholic Church (with it 1.2 billion followers); Protestant and Evangelical Churches (with over 1.2 billion followers) like the one I was raised in where the youth director molested and sexually assaulted young girls; big business which has long created environments in which people have been abused; powerful political bodies like the U.S. Congress, etc., etc., etc.) 

With all of those crime families, neither the followers nor the leadership ever voluntarily step down or shut down their criminal activities. Be they gangs, organized crime families, religions, big business, politicians, etc., they all want control and they all want power and they all want money, and nothing internal will interfere with the driving forces at play. 

The masses must demand that all those in charge must step down and their groups and institutions must shut down, and there's the real problem because the continuation of their crimes are enabled not as much by the people running such crime organizations as they are enabled by the masses of people who - wanting some perceived "payoff" - remain involved with them and give them money and support them and aid and abet the continued existence of those criminal enterprises and thus facilitate the ability of church criminals and political criminals and other types of criminals to continue to commit their crimes.]

Having a Propensity for Magical, Supernatural, Unquestioned Beliefs 

MAGICAL, SUPERNATURAL, UNQUESTIONED BELIEFS 

Yesterday, some of the consequences of being programmed and conditioned to think magically / supernaturally / religiously / spiritually - that is, believing the myths and superstitions and lies that one is told without ever questioning their validity or lack thereof - were shared: 

Being fooled; used; hoodwinked; duped; conned; deceived; bamboozled; and, therefore, constantly being disturbed, angry, enraged, infuriated, and incensed. 

Maharaj made clear that fools are those who accept “learned ignorance” as truth without ever questioning it. 

He told one visitor to the loft, “I would be very happy to have you ‘back home,’ really glad to see you out of this foolishness.” 

What foolishness? All of the foolishness taught and learned since leaving the Child Ignorance / Child No-Knowing State. 

That is why there is no one here trying to teach anything to any visitor to this site and why there is no one here who would have any visitor to this site learn anything. 

To the contrary, all here is ultimately about un-teaching, about inviting visitors to un-learn it all and return to the only state in which unconditional happiness or contentment can happen, namely, The Child No-Knowing / Pre-Fooled State. 

Maharaj defined “knowledge” as “learned ignorance”; thus, when it was said that “fools may have the greatest repository of knowledge but will never attain wisdom,” he would not have disagreed . . . noting that only a small number on the planet shall ever be realized at any given moment. 

"Realized" meaning? Meaning freed from the key symptoms of the Ultimate Sickness which he identified as “ignorance, stupidity, and insanity.” 

Furthermore, he would have dismissed as pure poppycock and total nonsense the notion that there’s a new earth coming when the majority will be realized. The tipping point was passed long ago and now fools prevail. 

Maharaj made clear that only a few shall be awakened to the truth of how much they are contributing to the near-universal mental cesspool of babble on planet earth. 

(G.B. Shaw, when asked if he believed if there is life on other planets, said, “Absolutely.” The evidence he offered: “They are obviously using earth as their insane asylum.”) 

One easy way to spot fools is to witness the unlimited babble being generated from the psychological cesspool of their minds and then flowing ceaselessly through their mouths. They hate the silence and, therefore, constantly disrupt it (along with the peace which it can provide). 

To that end, the Talmud offered this consideration: “If silence be good for the wise, how much better for fools.” 

As for the effects of magical thinking catalogued earlier, this can be added: Being a fool sets persons up to be controlled by other fools. 

That rebellious author Thoreau said, “Any fool can make a rule, and any fool will mind it.” 

Yet foolishness prevails in all aspects of the relative existence of humankind.

For example, Henry Fielding noted that there is “one fool at least in every married couple.” 

They are the ones saying, “My husband only hits me because he cares so much that he gets really emotionally-involved, but he’s promised he won’t ever do that again so I’m staying with him” 

or 

“You’re an ass to even suggest that my partner only married me for my money. I have never been so loved in all my life.” 

What is a key difference in the fool and the wise one? Hesiod said that “The fool knows after he's suffered,” suggesting that the wise are the ones who have the skill set to avoid - before it actually occurs - much of the misery and suffering which the relative existence can offer. 

And in the end, Maharaj made clear what this deal is really about, saying that “The only job of ‘the non-dual teacher’ to end the misery and suffering of those who come seeking.”
