WHY DO SEEKERS REQUIRE A TEACHER IF THE PROBLEMS CENTERED IN THE MIND ARE ADDRESSED BY UN-LEARNING?

Here, there is nothing that is believed, so there is no one here who wants you to believe anything, either. Here, the invitation is to be free of all that you have been programmed, conditioned, acculturated, and domesticated to believe so that you can be free, period.

Furthermore, for those who have developed a preference for any non-nisargan yoga or who prefer Traditional Advaita Vedanta, Neo-Advaita, Neo-Vedanta, or Pseudo Advaita: here you will only find the use of the Direct Path Method of teaching along with the Nisarga (Natural) Yoga, all shared in simple, everyday English.

F.: Let the discussion return to the jar mentioned in an earlier post. Originally, it was easy to look through the jar and to see clearly because the jar was empty; then, contaminants were added in the form of green, putrid, swamp water.

One could no longer raise the glass and look through it. To address the issue, suppose someone began collecting larger jars and poured the rancid water into one larger jar after another so that more water could be added to dilute the original quantity of swamp water. Quite an interesting plan, yes?

Then suppose that person raised the larger jars toward the sky and tried again and again to look through them. He noted that he could see a glimmer of things that could not be seen before, but still he never saw clearly.

Soon, he began to travel the world in search of larger and larger jars that would allow him to add more and more water and to dilute the original rank solution more and more. He decided that magical, supernatural practices might help purify the contents, so sometimes he hummed over the jar;

sometimes he burned special sticks and waved them over the jar; sometimes he placed it on a special carpet and bowed to it; sometimes he gave a blessing over his H2O and used that holy water to try to dilute the nasty contents of his jar; sometimes he set the jar on a special pillow and placed expensive stones next to the newest jar.

But each time he raised the newest jar - able to see only slightly more than the time before - he saw that ultimately everything was still cloudy, far from offering a clear, perfect view. He became weary from his travels and frustrated by his efforts, but he kept searching for that one biggest jar that he imagined he could use to solve his problem; his search for the largest jar of all become tantamount to a new search for the Holy Grail.

The quest was exhausting, but finally, he crossed the "path" of one that had followed the same course ... one who was holding up a perfectly clear glass before his eyes and was looking at the beautiful sky above through his sparkling clean jar.

The seeker of larger and larger jars ask, "How can that happen for me? After all of these years, look. I still cannot see that clearly, even through my over-sized jar."

The one that had been seeing clearly through his jar set it down, took the much larger jar from the seeker, turned it upside down, dumped the still-cloudy and greenish contents onto the ground, handed the jar back to the seeker, picked up his smaller jar from the ground, raised it once more, and continued witnessing the lovely clouds floating by against a perfectly blue sky.

The seeker looked at the other man's jar, then down at his own now-empty jar, and said under his breath, "Well I'll be damn." Then he followed suit and lifted his own jar. He looked through it and was also able - for the first time ever - to see everything clearly. Then, he lowered the jar to his side, looked first to be filled with self-loathing and then seemed to be overcome with an overwhelming sense of despair as he looked back on all of his years of work and seeking and accumulating.

He next became angry for a time, and then he began to cry as he recalled in more detail all of the futile effort, all of the spent energy, all of the wasted assets, all of the accumulating to no avail. The man with the clear jar set it on the ground and then extended his arm to the seeker and placed it on his shoulder and said,

"All is okay. All was as it was and all is as it is. Some find my books early on explaining that you need but dump out the contents of your jar if you would see clearly. Some hear Me - the Pure Awareness, the presently manifested and unblocked consciousness - speak and say the same.

"Yet most never find the simple solution that I just showed You. You have found the answer which you have been seeking even though it was nothing like what You thought You needed to seek or to find. Now go, and never fill Your jar again with anything that is rotten, decaying, and disintegrating.

"Never again give value to the garbage in your culture. Never again hang onto that which is worthless. Never again allow ego to be inflated by false pride in what you have accumulated.

"Instead, merely enjoy the perfect view for the remainder of the manifestation. Enjoy the fact that You can now witness everything clearly. Enjoy the fact that You need accumulate nothing ever again.

"Set aside the hundreds of jars you collected in your futile efforts to solve by 'getting' rather than by 'discarding.' Enjoy the rest of the journey, knowing that now you will be carrying a far lighter load indeed."

Sleeping With "The Enemy" Leads to Sleeping With "All of Your Enemies"

F.: Of course the not-two, non-duality teachings recognize no "friends vs. enemies" pairing, so what is the reference to? The reference is to the "enemy" of freedom and peace, namely, the "mind" that has been discussed recently.

All sorts of e-mails arrived after the last series, including this one:

As you know I have been in and out of contact with you for the last 10 years. Currently I am separated from my wife. I think I was so attached to having a wife and having someone who would at least say I love you and someone to be with when I came home from work that it didn’t really matter how [messed] up things were. How deluded I was. I was blind!

My mind races with thoughts trying to figure everything out: What did I do wrong? How could this have been prevented? Can this be saved? Underneath all that is a knowing that all these thoughts are BS. I know about the false roles and personas. I don’t need anyone or anything to be at peace. So what’s the problem? The thoughts continue to disturb the peace. Even though I know them to be about trying to protect a phony self, they continue to dominate what’s happening in the head anyway. Floyd I really do want your help. My sincere desire is only to shut down the "theater of the lie" once and for all!

F.: Specific details notwithstanding, let it be said that of the 9,000+ that have been dealt with thoroughly over the years, few persons have tolerated such levels of sabotage, self-sabotage, and harm on so many levels - relatively speaking.

Here where these teachings are offered, he has been "fired" as a protégé time and again over the past decade - run out of the loft time and again, if you will - because it was seen each time that the readiness was not there. Deception and self-deception were preferred to seeing the reality of his AM-ness and the Reality of THAT. As he confessed above, phony roles were far more desired that freedom and peace.

He was once asked, "Do you not see that you are sleeping with the enemy?" The case is still the same, though he is erroneously claiming that they are "separated." They are not. There is another BS belief.

The fact is that they are closer now than ever. Prior to establishing separate residences, his thoughts might have turned to her a time or two during the day - and to others many times during the day - and again in the evening when he returned home for his egotism-addiction to receive its "I love you" fix.

[Before continuing, let it be said that had "floyd" not been as blind and played some of the same roles for a period of his life, it would be impossible to empathize so exactly with this situation.]

So in his case now, rather than "crossing his mind" a few times during the day, she is never out of his thoughts. He is allowing her to be far closer now than she ever was in the past ... not separated at all. Now, he is still sleeping with the enemy, but this time he's sleeping first and foremost with his oldest enemy ... his "mind."

Being with that enemy - the enemy of freedom and peace - he is as lost in his "new make-believe world" as he was prior to the separation while living in his "other make-believe world."

It was in that other make-believe world where he accepted deception and where he practiced self-deception; where he was in denial around his depression and dissociated from his misery and suffering; and where he put a sweet spin of distortion on the most sour of things that he was being fed and that he willingly swallowed.

And as long as he continues to sleep with his oldest enemy - that freedom-stealing, peace- pilfering "mind" - he then must sleep with all of his other enemies that are preventing him from enjoying the relative existence as is and trapping him instead on the stage of "The Theater of the Lie."

Joining him in bed at night, tossing and turning and disturbing his sleep, rising with him each morning, messing with him all day, and then following him home again in the evening, he is spending 24 / 7 with his other enemies, namely ...

... the multiple personalities that are controlling thoughts and words and actions and the personas that are all screaming for him to jump into the raging currents of his thought-flooded "mind" and save all of his false personas from drowning. That is what self -absorption (i.e., being absorbed with one's false self / selves) looks like. So now the actual fact: thoughts of "her," really? No. Thoughts of himself / his self / his selves? Yes.

It is as if he is standing on the banks of a river in Pakistan during the recent floods that were the worst in that country's history. It is as if he is looking at garbage being sweep along in the current but is deluded into thinking that great treasures are passing him by. So what does he do?

He jumps into the current and is swept away, all in an effort to try to capture something that was never what his mis-perceiving "mind" and the blocked consciousness thought he was seeing and needing to capture. That is what the warped "mind" and the blocked consciousness will do:

** It will cause misperception.

** It will cause garbage to look like treasure and treasure to look like garbage.

He mentioned "the theater of the lie." The amazing thing about that is this: the play is over but he cannot see that it was just a play (as a result of his blocked consciousness) and he cannot see that it is over. So what has he done?

All the theatergoers have left the theater except for him; the cast is gone and are at home enjoying the respite before entering into their next bit of drama; the last crew member has left the building and turned out the lights; and what has he done?

He has blindly felt his way down the aisle, stumbled through the blackness and found the side stairs leading to the stage, fallen onto the middle of the platform in the absolute darkness, and is crying because a tragic play has ended. Worst, he thinks it was a comedy... one of the most important and entertaining plays ever produced.

Now, there's another piece to this story. The fact is, that theater has been closed for decades. There was never a comedy presented there at all. He sat in the darkness for years and merely imagined that he was seeing an entertaining and enjoyable play. The entire imaginary drama had been produced by his enemy ... his "mind."

And now, he is mourning the end of a play that never even happened. More than that, though, he has upgraded his illusion - as the "mind" and ego are prone to do - so that now he thinks the play / non-play was more than a comedy - it was, in his "mind" now - "one of the greatest romances of all times." In fact, it was all a figment of his imagination, a phony tale of supposedly "deep love" on her part and his part.

If he could but awaken from the dream, he would see that he did not love her. He would be clinically insane if that were the case, and his behaviors over the years verified the fact that love was not there. Her behavior revealed the same. They were merely two of the billions among the masses who haven't the slightest clue about what false love is and about what Real Love is.

Is that a condemnation of either of them? No. They did not ask to be placed in their sick culture and they did not ask to be subjected to a series of warping experiences and to ignorance-based programming and perverse conditioning.

Yet he is one of the few that could be among the fortunates that have stumbled through the darkness of The Theater of the Lie and been exposed to these teachings / un-teachings. He has crossed the path of one that, time and again for ten years, has turned on the light so that he could see the false, so that he could see that the snake is just a rope, and so he could see that - in his case - the rope was really a snake. (And that works both ways.)

Yet there is no call for shame or blame or guilt or remorse. When one is driven, one is never in the driver's seat. One might be in the passenger seat, the back seat, or locked in the trunk / boot. If one's car went into the ditch because someone else was driving all along, then there is no fault assigned.

Yet is it not time to be rid of the personas that have been running one's car into the ditch time and again? Is it not time to be rid of all that has been driving you and to take charge of where you go and when you go and how you go?

Notice this is not written to him, though he will likely read it. At this point, after so many times of turning on the light - only to have him reach over and turn it off - this is addressed to other seekers who might be totally ready to stop sleeping with the oldest enemy so that they can stop sleeping with any enemies at all.

If one really wants to walk out of the theater of the lie, then one must admit the lies and then be guided to Light / Truth / Reality / Real Love / Peace. Maybe it is to be revealed if the light is finally welcomed once and for all.

Freedom, Peace, Bliss. Period.

THE CONSCIOUSNESS AND THE BRAIN VS. "THE MIND," Part Eleven, The Conclusion

Here, there is nothing that is believed, so there is no one here who wants you to believe anything, either. Here, the invitation is to be free of all that you have been programmed, conditioned, acculturated, and domesticated to believe so that you can be free, period.

Furthermore, for those who have developed a preference for any non-nisargan yoga or who prefer Traditional Advaita Vedanta, Neo-Advaita, Neo-Vedanta, or Pseudo Advaita: here you will only find the use of the Direct Path Method of teaching along with the Nisarga (Natural) Yoga, all shared in simple, everyday English.

F.: Many become quite offended when they mistakenly believe that Maharaj referred to "the stupidity" and "the insanity" of the masses. The fact is, those words were not aimed at "the masses" but at the "mind" of the masses instead.

The pointers offered here on that subject include these:

1. WHO, what persona, is offended by those words? It would have to be a persona that is assuming offense because no part of the composite unity can be offended - not the elemental part, not the air part, not the conscious-energy part.

2. Because he was referring to the "mind," WHO could be personally offended? Maharaj was not referring to any "personal individual," knowing that all things thought to be "personal" or "individuated" are mirages. How could a mirage be offended?

3. He was referring to the "mind"-generated stupidity and insanity that drives the non-Realized to live under the influence of the false content of the "mind." When something false is governing every thought, every word, and every deed, then of course the result is going to be foolishness, rendering all thoughts unwise, all words unintelligent, and all deeds ludicrous.

4. At times during enneagram sessions which reveal serious personality disorders and liabilities, person also become offended even though the point is made that all of the talk about personality and personas is not about "them" (is not about the Authentic Self). The point is made that "none of the disorders or liabilities are about You but are really about all of the 'not-you's' that are presently controlling all thoughts and words and deeds."

5. As noted here time and again, no mirage in the desert will ever have any thought, much less a thought that it has been offended. Such distortion can only happen when a person is living under the auspices of the "mind" and takes mirages to be real and capable of being offended.

Those who are trying to navigate the relative existence under the influence of the "mind" are destined to be unstable. The "mind" is the seat of all dualistic beliefs and thoughts and concepts and ideas, and as far back as two thousand years ago, this Advaita pointer was reported in writing: "A dual-minded person is unstable in all ways."

Four thousand years ago, this Advaita pointer was recorded: "A double-minded person is always unstable." All "minds" are based in doubles: what is loved today is hated tomorrow; what is thought to be "good" today will be thought to be "bad" tomorrow; what brings pleasure today will being misery tomorrow; and what brings the greatest pleasure today will bring the greatest misery tomorrow.

The only thing that can be guaranteed to be generated by a "mind" is fluctuation, instability, shifts between happiness and unhappiness, and an ever-present undercurrent of dis-ease that swells at time and seems to drown persons in waves of suffering.

Again, a mind is not "a terrible thing to waste"; it is just a terrible waste, period. To be free of the influence of the "mind," find the answer to this question: "Is it possible that everything you have ever been told or taught or now believe is false?"

If you find the single, correct answer to that question, the "mind" will be abandoned.

F.: In the book There's No Such Thing As "Peace of Mind" (There Is Only Peace If You're Out of Your Mind), there is a detailed explanation of the millions of years of human or human-like existence that happened without even a single human having "a mind."

In addition to a discussion of the millions of years of human or human-like existence with no "mind," the evolutionary process by which the "mind" eventually formed is explained; it is shown how the human brain expanded only recently - in evolutionary terms - from its original one-cup size to its present 3-1/2-cup size;

it is shown how the brain and the mind worked together to perpetuate the manifestation of consciousness and the survival of the species; it is then shown how the mind became altered and how it eventually degenerated from being a constructive tool - relatively-speaking - to being a destructive tool.

Now, the "mind" is not meeting the intent of its original natural function to assist in the perpetuation of the species but is doing all it can to bring about fear and desire; anxiety; anger; discontentment; dis-ease; a false sense of separation;

a sense of not feeling fulfilled but feeling empty and unfulfilled instead; a sense of feeling "better than" and "different from"; a sense of feeling "holy" (because that word literally means, "different from"); a host of personality disorders that plague humanity's relative existence;

clinically-diagnosable insanity; and a never-ending stream of broken "relationships" - relatively speaking - on every level from what is taken to be "personal" relationships to local and national and international "relationships." Yet in spite of all of that, there is little that humans value more than the content of the "mind," namely, their ideas and beliefs and attitudes and knowledge (a.k.a., "learned ignorance").

What Maharaj called "the stupidity" and "the insanity" of the masses is all rooted in "the mind," and his claim is verified when

(a) all of the instances of disharmony catalogued above are rooted in the accumulations of "the mind"

but

(b) the "mind" is, nevertheless, arrogantly prized above all else.

"Stupid" and / or "insane" persons care not a whit about the brain, destroying it by use of all sorts of substances that wipe out millions of brain cells at a time and by caring not a whit about the natural instinct to perpetuate the consciousness but taking risks constantly that could end the manifestation instantly.

Yet challenge their beliefs or their ideas or their attitudes or their false identities that actually make the modern "mind" what it is and you'll have a war on your hands. The general attitude among the non-Realized masses is:

"Protect the brain? Never really give that much concern."

"To preserve the continuation of the manifestation of the consciousness, stop driving like a madman? Stop using substances that destroy the lungs and the brain and the heart? Stop all of my insane behaviors that generate relative harm for myself and those around me? Uhhh ... doesn't really come into consciousness when I'm doing what I do."

Yet ...

"You dare to attack my 'mind-warehoused' beliefs that are rooted in myth and superstition and ignorance? Die, infidel! Die, non-Christian! You claim the pope and the dalai lama and my preacher or priest or ayatollah or imam or rabbi are not holy? Die!"

"Brain things? No problem? Sane things that continue the manifestation? No concern. But question my sacred and holy and hallowed beliefs and my revered personas? I will kill you, or I will pray for you to die, or - at the very least - I will leave you and never speak to you again."

When the pain-and-misery-causing effects of cancerous polyps were experienced, there was never any question at all that the internal source of the pain and misery should be removed and tossed immediately.

Yet when one ...

(A) considers the brain and the consciousness and the "mind" but

(B) demonstrates little concern about the brain or consciousness and

(C) ignores all of the misery and suffering and chaos and instability generated by the content of the "mind" that makes the relative existence one disharmonious mess yet

(D) still wants to cling to the "mind" (that is, to the belief in all that is stored therein)

then what else - other than "stupidity" and "insanity" - could Maharaj have called that?
