A DAILY CONSIDERATION FOR YOU
F.:The Eastern sages have long invited persons to be free of personality. Why? Because personality never manifests in isolation. Once a personality forms, it develops an influential wing or wings and disintegrates under stress to the worst of at least one other type.
Therefore, personalities appear in clusters, assuring that persons will (a) suffer from the Multiple Personality Disorder and will (b) suffer because the hidden agendas of every personality types will subconsciously determine and control thoughts and words and actions without people even being aware of what is driving them.
Consider this brief explanation of how personality forms and how personality types can subconsciously control a person's thoughts and words and actions:
There are nine basic personality types as identified by the enneagram method. One's primary personality type is developed early on, often by the age of six. It comes about as a means of coping in response to the (often-insane) actions of the adults in a child's environment.
In addition to the primary type, "wings" develop so that persons take on the traits of one or more adjacent types. (For example, if one is a Type 6, that person can also exhibit traits of the 5 type and the 7 type.)
Moreover, when under stress, persons can disintegrate to another type and can also internalize a type (or types) that they are exposed to by parents, members of groups and institutions that influence them, employers, friends, mates, etc. The result?
Most persons are driven by the hidden agendas of not one personality but multiple personalities; therefore, those agendas subconsciously determine thoughts and words and actions without people even being aware of what is driving them.
Moreover, personalities are ego-states, so they will trigger egotism and will inspire image-making and, thus, inauthenticity.
Consider the nine types:

PICTOGRAPH
Next, consider what manifests with each type when an aggravating factor manifests (aggravating factors being stress, egotism, and / or religious or spiritual arrogance)

TRAITS OF THE TYPES WHEN STRESSED
Yet personality-driven behaviors often appear to be so positive and always appear to be motivated by something other than what is really at play, generating more delusion and distortion and self-deceit and deceit of others. And that - among many other reasons - is why the sages concerned with authenticity know that authenticity cannot manifest in the presence of personality.
So consider apparent motives vs. actual motives:
The Type One appears to be quite noble, concerned with making self and friends and relatives and neighbors and one's state and one's nation (and - actually - the entire "world") better.
The actual motive: to critique and criticize; to judge; to consider oneself perfect and to try to make everyone over in the Type One's image.
The Type Two appears to be a helper, a caretaker, a giver, and even a savior to some.
The actual motive: to do everything possible to make others give them the love and reassurance that they failed to receive in childhood; they work to collect a huge group of people who they think actually like them and even love them. In the end, they never take care of their own needs but become frustrated and angry when others do not give back to the same degree that the Type Two gave to them.
The Type Three appears to be a hard worker, a model citizen, and a charming, caring person.
The actual motive: Type Three's have a love of success, hoping that success will bring them, not love, but affirmation and admiration and applause and recognition. They are the biggest narcissists of all nine types. The are not "hard workers" - they are so driven to succeed and so fearful of failure that they are often workaholics, totally ignoring commitments to their mates and / or to their children. They have secrets, often what they see as dark secrets from their childhood, so they fabricate and maintain an image and are always preoccupied with form over substance.
Type Fours appear to be creative and expressive though occasionally a bit dramatic. They can be romantic; sensitive; and reserved, and can create and surround themselves with beauty.
The actual motive: To isolate and deal with their emotional issues. (If they Realize, then their isolation can develop into an ability to enjoy the solitude.) They can be moody and self-conscious, self-absorbed, and temperamental. They typically have problems with melancholy, self-indulgence, and self-pity.
The irony here is this: Four's only make up 1/2 of 1% of the planet's population, but they are the most likely to Realize fully. (That "small number - "1/2 of 1% of the population" - helps explain why so few ever Realize; however, if they do, some among those can guide other types to Realization as well.)
If Fours tire of the "negative traits" above, they are the one's most likely to enter into a search for "True Self" and for authenticity. (Maharaj was a Type Four. Consider his early years in Bombay / Mumbai when his behavior was driven more by his Three-wing than his actual Type Four ... when he exhibited the negative Three and the negative Four characteristics above; then contrast that with what happened after he settled into his Four's desire for authenticity, completed "the journey," and then Realized.)

A DAILY CONSIDERATION FOR YOU
F.: To clarify: the point in yesterday's post was not that every problem on the planet involving humans is rooted in duality alone. Nor was there a claim that the non-dual understanding can address every ill.
That is made clear in the eBook below entitled Instability / Insanity: What the Advaita Teachings Can (and Cannot) Address.
Yet most problems among humans are rooted:
A. in duality; and / or
B. in the body-mind-personality identification that accompanies dualistic thinking and beliefs; and / or
C. in what Maharaj deemed to be "ignorance, stupidity, and insanity."
Note that A, B, and C, in turn, are all rooted in "the mind." In the eBook referenced above, more details are provided in that regard in "Chapter One":
Most of the problems of this planet are centered in the mind, including ...
... the belief that man has been given dominion over plants, animals and the resources of the planet and has the right to use all of that as he chooses - thus negatively impacting the environment - is a mental problem;
... the arrogance and sense of separation which lead to conflict on all levels is a mental problem;
... the anxiety and stress and preoccupation with efforts to live according to the dreamed up rules and regulations and laws and commandments of someone else's dogma in order to spend eternity in an upgraded version of "this world" as opposed to a downgraded version of "this world" is a mental problem;
... the fact that Real Love is mistaken for what the masses call "love" is a mental problem (a mental illness accompanied always by a lack of Wisdom, a failure to understand Oneness, and an excess of ignorance), as is the chaos that follows when their version of "love" is seen to have been false;
... the instability of persons' thoughts and words and actions is a mental problem (the Advaitin called "Jesus Christ" purportedly having said that "A dual-minded person is unstable in all ways");
and
... being unstable is one surefire sign of the presence of a mental problem.
This is also offered in that book:
Consider some of the definitions of "unstable":
1. inconstant and variable; that is, likely to change frequently without apparent or cogent reason;
2. unsteady, forever subject to change, highly or violently reactive;
3. unable to afford a sense of ease or reassurance to those who are around them, preferring consciously or subconsciously to manipulate others with covert methods of controlling in order to make them "walk on eggshells" or to keep them at a distance;
4. overly-sensitive to self while being insensitive with others;
5. of unsound mind; suffering from severe mental illness; insane; deranged;
6. disposed to psychological variability; irresolute; moody;
7. and exhibiting such personality traits as:
-changeable
-unpredictable
-unsteady
-inconstant
-unsettled
-irrational
-erratic
-inconsistent
-unreliable
-untrustworthy and
-vacillating
All of the above describes those who are trapped in the Ultimate Sickness of a dualistic mind (and, thus, mental illness) and who are swept back and forth by the tides of emotional intoxication. Consider waves crashing into rock formations along the shores of the planet's oceans: the rocks are there, steady, unmoved by the actions of the ever-changing waves that are crashing into them.
Take the rocks (as in "she / he is steady as a rock") to be the relative existence when insanity is absent and when Reality is overlaid upon it; take the waves to be the ever-in-motion consciousness, the unstable mind, and the existence that many encounter everyday because they are unstable in all ways.
The mind is the seat of duality, and duality is that which drives persons into constantly-fluctuating states of happiness and unhappiness; of shifting from loving to hate; of moving from idealizing and romanticizing to degrading and debasing;
of upgrading and downgrading; of moving from "you light up my life" to "you drive me crazy"; of looking at a potential partner and writing a "pro / con" list of that potential partner's traits but having no "con's" on the list; and of arrogantly doing the same with one's own "pro / con" list of traits; or having all "con's" on one or both lists.

A DAILY CONSIDERATION FOR YOU
F.: [Gratitude is expressed to all of those that have sent inquires and statements of well-wishes after, first, a six-week process of dealing with the possibility of retinal tears and detachments and then, secondly, a four-week bacterial respiratory infection, overlapping with another incident of internal hemorrhaging like that from two years ago. Four in-hospital procedures this last week failed to find the source of the blood loss; the next step calls for the newer "camera in a pill, micro-electronics technology" that will survey the entire GUI tract in an 8-10 hour period, but insurance will only cover that on an out-patient basis; so, during the process of insurance approval and testing, there will be a need for lab visits to measure hemoglobin counts as well as out-patient blood transfusions as needed until the problem can be found and a treatment can be provided. A friend noted that inquiries have come from Advaitins abiding on all seven continents, reinforcing the sense of unity that we all share. Thanks, and peace and love to you all. Now to the post.]
In the hospital last week, televisions everywhere were broadcasting "the news" which is seldom watched here. Much airtime was given to several stories, two events dealing with acts of violence by members of one race against a member of another race, including: a report on three males who killed an Australian living in the U.S., shot seemingly for sport or out of boredom; and a report about two males who beat to death an 88-year old man.
Also in the news: the verdict finding a Muslim member of the U.S. Army guilty of having killed thirteen of his fellow Christian soldiers on a U.S. Army base; a male arrested after entering a school with an assault rifle and threatening people there; a worker in a coffee shop pistol-whipped because he did not prepare a customer's coffee the way he ordered it; and an 8-year old who killed an 87-year old woman, all added to another 600 who died this week - as die every week in the U.S. - by gun violence.
In the free eBook offered below, dealing with the subject of "Good vs. Evil," the point is offered that violence is not a result of "good vs. evil" but is a result of what Maharaj said the non-duality teachings can address, namely, "ignorance, stupidity, and insanity."
Additionally, this was offered earlier:
(In the current global economy where wealth and assets are being consolidated and held tightly by fewer and fewer, leaving the masses to deal with new levels of frustration, there will be ...
... disparities (dualities); there will be hierarchies (dualities) that are marked with more rigidity as a result of less opportunity for mobility; there will be the insanity of African miners with sticks and machetes charging police with guns;
there will be Occupy Wall Street-type movements around the globe (protesting the duality of the two identities they see, namely, "The 1%-ers" vs. "The 99%-ers"); and there will be an increase in crime (as a result of the duality of "The Haves" protecting their accumulations vs. "The Have Nots" wanting a share of the pie).
Note, though, that the violence referenced above is not about race or age or having or not having as much as it is about duality-inspired differentiation and separation within cultures.
By contrast, in cases where there are "haves" only and other cases where there are "have-nots" only, problems seldom arise because there is little duality, less hierarchy formation, and far less cultural messaging about "different-from-ment."
For example: there are those labeled by anthropologists as "uncontacted people" (a.k.a., "isolated people" or "lost tribes") living, either by choice or by circumstance, in voluntary isolation without significant contact with globalized "civilization." Most uncontacted communities nowadays are located in densely-forested areas in South America or New Guinea. If their communities experience any violence, it comes mainly during their occasional encounters with neighboring tribes. They are minimalist and they accumulate almost nothing, and their cultures are fairly - though not entirely - free of the preponderance of duality that marks most cultures around the globe.
By contrast, consider the persons living in the Principality of Monaco. Years ago when operating a company that took people from the U.S. on tours throughout Western Europe, my path crossed that of a man from Monaco in a Lucerne, Switzerland restaurant one evening. It was one of those occasions where a kind of instant bonding happened at warp speed and a friendship developed quickly. He invited my wife and me to join him in Monaco for a few days. What we found there was - in a sense - another culture of "uncontacted people" because the only persons who can have any contact with those living in that closed society are the people they choose to contact. We found this:
The Principality of Monaco boasts the world's highest per capita income and the lowest unemployment rate (0%); the world's lowest poverty rate (0%); the highest number of millionaires and billionaires per capita in the world (including 100% of the residents); and the world's most expensive real estate market. They are not minimalist but are the epitome of accumulation.
More to the point, though, is the fact that Monaco is almost totally free of "home-grown" crime or violence. What crime happens there is perpetuated either by those among the millions who visit annually or by the few who come there to try to prey on the rich. The success rate among those who would commit crime there without being caught is almost zero.
The point: when a non-dual community exists where all are "have-nots," few problems occur; when a non-dual community exists where all are "haves," few problems occur. Relative problems and crime and violence manifest in dualistic communities where disparities and clearly-defined hierarchies exist.
[In the U.S., the exception here and in some of other nations as well is that even in areas populated by "have-nots" only, they are now turning on each other. Likely, one could factor in "ignorance, stupidity, and insanity," but socio-economic issues and duality are still likely at play: those "sub-communities" are still "differentiated islands" within their larger cultures.]
The non-duality teachings can address some instances of "ignorance, stupidity, and insanity" and can bring peace; were the non-duality teachings to be understood in the rest of the far-more-prevalent cultures where duality drives all thoughts and words and actions and beliefs, then the reduction in the instances of disparities and clearly-defined hierarchies would - by all empirical evidence - also bring about far less crime and violence and fighting and killing and far more peace instead.
In terms of freedom from widespread global misery and suffering, the extent of the changes which the non-dual understanding could bring to the planet cannot be overstated or over-estimated.

A DAILY CONSIDERATION FOR YOU
F.: More from Maharaj on the topic:
Maharaj: "Talking is not my hobby. Sometimes I talk, sometimes I do not. My talking, or not talking, is a part of a given situation and does not depend on me. When there is a situation in which I have to talk, I hear myself talking. In some other situation I may not hear myself talking. It is all the same to me. Whether I talk or not, the light and love of being what I am are not affected, nor are they under my control. They are, and I know they are. There is a glad awareness, but nobody who is glad."
Maharaj: "Be careful. The moment you start talking you create a verbal universe, a universe of words, ideas, concepts and abstractions, interwoven and interdependent, most wonderfully generating, supporting and explaining each other and yet all without essence or substance, mere creations of the mind. Words create words. Reality is silent."
Maharaj taught that the cause of all is all. Golfers speak of their "long game" and their "short game." When Maharaj speaks of all being the cause of all, that is the long game. As far as what appears to be "the short game" is concerned, it has been explained here on occasion that everything among humans progresses in this order:
thoughts > words > actions.
Thoughts are generated in the mind, and the mind is nothing more than a conglomeration of nonsense, false teachings, warped ideas, and baseless concepts (a.k.a., "beliefs").
Thoughts lead to words ... to talk, talk, and more talk. But because thoughts are rooted in nonsense and false teachings and warped ideas and baseless concepts - a.k.a., beliefs - then words are guaranteed to also be nonsensical, warped, false, and baseless.
And what follows when nonsensical, warped, false, and baseless thoughts are verbalized? Nonsensical and warped actions, actions that are - relatively speaking - destructive, harmful, defeating, injurious, and detrimental (to "self" or "others" or both).
How to break the chain? Be rid of all beliefs, including the belief in self ... in all false selves that have been assumed as identities.
Once rid of beliefs, the "mind" is emptied. An empty mind can generate no thoughts, and abiding in a no-thought state allows for either (1) a no-talk, quiet, silent existence, or (2) a state in which any talk that does happen happens against a background of silent thoughtless.
At that point, all that happens - including all action - happens spontaneously and naturally (which is the case with every one of the trillions of life-forms on planet earth except for humans who are among the non-Realized masses).
The ultimate insanity among the non-Realized masses is the belief that they each have a mind of their own when, in fact, there is no such thing as "my mind." There is only "their mind" and to understand why one's mind is filled with such nonsense nowadays, one must look back to the time when the brain-size among humans tripled and set the stage for storing and recalling information.
And what was stored in "the mind" in those earliest days? "A verbal universe; a universe of words, ideas, concepts and abstractions"; stupid myths and ignorant superstitions; nonsense; learned ignorance; false teachings; insane thoughts; and bogus beliefs.
And how much of that has been passed down from one generation to the next? In most cases, all of it.

A DAILY CONSIDERATION FOR YOU
F.: More on silence:
Elizabeth Kubler-Ross: "There is no need to go to India or anywhere to find peace. You will find that deep place of silence right in your room, your garden, or even your bathtub."

Ohiyesa: "The Wise Man believes profoundly in silence - the sign of a perfect equilibrium."
Mary Ann Shaffer: "I don't want to be married just to be married. I can't think of anything lonelier than spending the rest of my life with someone I can't talk to, or worse, someone I can't be silent with."

F.: Just as there are two varieties of witnessing, so there are two varieties of talk. In one case - the rarest, limited to the miniscule number pointed to with the term "The Realized" - Consciousness can speak.
[Maharaj: "I appear to hear and see and talk and act, but to me it just happens, as to you digestion or perspiration happens."]
However, since (a) the beginning of language and (b) the assignment or the adoption of the first false identity, the second variety of talk is the type employed by the vast majority of persons among the non-Realized.
Since (a) the beginning of talk among the non-Realized and (b) the advent of the first assumed false identity, those two have never been separated. All of their talk is to formulate, establish and maintain a false image (a.k.a., an identity, a role, a stage character, an ego-state, a personality / persona, an actor, a guise, a facade, a front, etc.)
[Maharaj: "Don’t mentalize and verbalize. Just see and be."]
Thus, those involved in personality identification cannot choose to be quiet, to enter the silence, or to enjoy it. Quite the opposite, because they cannot choose anything. Why?
When identified with any personality, the personality's basic fear and / or basic desire (both hidden from the one trapped in any persona) will determine every thought, word, and action undertaken; therefore, there is no such thing as "choice" among the non-Realized.
Only when the last ego-state goes can the joy and bliss of the silence come, for only in the void of no longer trying to "really be something" and the void of no longer trying to "really be somebody" can an end to the need for incessant verbalizing manifest.
One cannot choose to love the silence or to honor others' peace and quiet with one's silence; when ego goes, silence comes spontaneously.
[Maharaj: " ... Talk is in your 'world'. In mine — there is eternal silence. My silence sings, my emptiness is full, I lack nothing. You cannot know My World until you are there."]
If the Consciousness speaks, it can be recognized by the fact that it is pointing out the way to be freed from being driven unconsciously by what Maharaj called humanity's "ignorance, stupidity, and insanity";
If talk is coming from something other than the unblocked, re-purified Consciousness, it is coming from some assumed ego-state that is perpetuating humanity's "ignorance, stupidity, and insanity."
[Maharaj: "All this talk shows ignorance" and "You talk so much of reforms: economic, social, political. Leave alone the reforms and mind 'The Reformer'. What kind of world can a man create who is stupid, greedy, heartless?" and "Yours is a make-believe talk: all hangs on suppositions and assumptions. You speak with assurance about things you are not sure of" and this:
Questioner: "Why do you sit here talking to people? What is your real motive?"
Maharaj: "No motive. You say I must have a motive. I am not sitting here, nor talking: no need to search for motives. Don’t confuse me with the body. I have no work to do, no duties to perform."]
Some of the red flag's that warn a listener that something "ignorant, stupid, or insane" is about to be verbalized were shared earlier, and they include other alerts such as ...
"Well, I'm the kind of person who believes that ... "
"My parents were pretty dang wise, and they told me ... "
"Well I will tell you one thing that I have come to know is a fact, namely, ... "
[Maharaj: "All talk of gnana [of knowing] is a sign of ignorance. It is the mind that imagines that it does not know and then comes to know. Reality knows nothing of these contortions. Even the idea of God as the Creator is false. Do I owe my being to any other being? Because I am, all is."]
"I think that ... "
"I am sure that ... "
"I believe that ... "
"I long ago figured out that ... "
"It's become real clear that my purpose for having been put here is to ... "
"The list of people I have helped is a very long one, and I'll be glad to let you talk to as many of them as you want so they can explain how much I ... "
"I have been blessed with an ability to speak eloquently and I use that ability to help ... "
[Maharaj: "Do not talk of helping another, unless you can put him beyond all need of help."]

F.: More on silence:
Elizabeth Kubler-Ross: "There is no need to go to India or anywhere to find peace. You will find that deep place of silence right in your room, your garden, or even your bathtub."

F.: More from Maharaj on quietness and silence:
"What we call thoughts are just ripples in the mind. When the mind is quiet ... it dissolves and only reality remains"
and
"Shift your attention from words to silence and you will hear"
and
"All you need is to keep quietly alert, enquiring into the real nature of yourself. This is the only way to peace."
To those who want to argue that their employment or duties prevent any opportunity to be quiet:
M.: "By all means attend to your duties. Action in which you are not emotionally involved and which is beneficial and does not cause suffering will not bind you. You may be engaged in several directions and work with enormous zest, yet remain inwardly free and quiet ..."
yet
"Keep quiet. Do your work in the world, but inwardly keep quiet."
To those who think the mind is the instrument that leads to Realization:
"Words and questions come from the mind and hold you there. To go beyond the mind, you must be silent and quiet. Peace and silence, silence and peace - this is the way beyond"
and
"If you could only keep quiet, clear of memories and expectations, you would be able to discern the beautiful pattern of events. It is your restlessness that causes chaos"
and
"If you just try to keep quiet, all will come — the work, the strength for work, the right motive. Must you know everything beforehand? Don’t be anxious about your future — be quiet now and all will fall in place. The unexpected is bound to happen, while the anticipated may never come."
To "The Super Seekers" and "The Would-be Knowers" (who use "a quest" in order to avoid and escape):
"You need not merit truth. It is your own. Just stop running away by running after. Stand still, be quiet."
To those seeking either things material or even things they think are "spiritual":
"Keep quiet, undisturbed, and the wisdom and the power will come on their own. You need not hanker. Wait in silence .... It is very easy to be quiet, but willingness is rare. You people want to become supermen overnight. Stay without ambition, without the least desire, exposed, vulnerable, unprotected, uncertain and alone, completely open to and welcoming life as it happens, without the selfish conviction that all must yield you pleasure or profit [either] material or so-called spiritual."
His counsel, knowing that quietness and silence are preempted by personality identification:
"Try to be, only to be. The all-important word is ‘try’. Allot enough time daily for sitting quietly and trying, just trying, to go beyond the personality, with its addictions and obsessions. Don’t ask how, it cannot be explained. You just keep on trying until you succeed. If you persevere, there can be no failure. What matters supremely is sincerity, earnestness; you must really have had surfeit of being the person you are; now see the urgent need of being free of this unnecessary self-identification with a bundle of memories and habits. This steady resistance against the unnecessary is the secret of success."

Therefore, another movement or shift is happening here spontaneously after reflecting on the more than two decades since the teachings were first offered here and looking at the results of Maharaj sharing pointers in his loft and looking at the results of "Floyd" sharing pointers in this electronic loft: Looking objectively at his results, Maharaj's satsang method of sharing - in the end and by his own admission (only "one out of 10,000,000") - did not produce the intended outcome.

A DAILY CONSIDERATION FOR YOU
F.: Most talk is inspired by a would-be ego-state, is used to build that false identity in the eyes of others, and is used to sustain that ego-state ... once built; at that point, excessive talk becomes "self-generating" and "self-perpetuating."
Begin with the nine basic personality types to see when talk (or quietness) is generated first by those personas:
"The Perfectionists" must talk to try to reform "the world" and to show others how right the Perfectionists are in every instance;
"The Helper / Love Seeker" must talk, believing their talk will make others love them;
"The Performers" must talk (or sing) to inspire others to admire and applaud them;
The next two types will usually prefer not to talk: that includes the Type Four "Romantic Escapist" or "Seeker of the Authentic Self" (that prefers isolation if not healthy or prefers the solitude if healthy) and the Type Five "Analyst" (that generally prefers to avoid by reading and studying and accumulating knowledge);
"The Loyal Dependents / Co-Dependents" must talk in order to persuade others to take care of them;
"The Adventurer" must talk to organize the next adventure and to avoid dealing with issues that they consider painful or "not fun";
"The Boss / Controller" must talk to stay in charge;
And then Types Nines can be talkative if in the aggressive mode or can be quiet if in the passive mode.
After those, hundreds of other personas will be assumed throughout a relative existence, and they will all be driven to talk as well: The Teacher, The Parent, The Lover, The Employer, The Religious Proselytizer, The Spiritual Giant, The Salesperson, The Perky Cashier, The Charming Woman Chaser, The Friendly Neighbor, The Recruiter, The Politician, The Preacher / Rabbi / Ayatollah / Priest, etc., etc., etc.
Then there are the egomaniacs and narcissists who talk to let you know:
"This is how I feel about that" or "I'm the kind of person who always ..." or "I happen to believe that ..." or "I was taught to always ..." or "Those of us in my family are the kind of people who ..." or "I am of the philosophy that ..." or "My parents were very wise and they always said ..." or "I was fortunate enough to be raised in a church / school / community / neighborhood / state / nation where the people taught me values so that now I am ..." and blah, blah, blah, ad infinitum.
Again, Maharaj: "The Realized are very quiet." Of course. Most talk comes from those unlike the Realized, from those still identified with body, mind, and personality. They are driven by the hidden agendas of personality to attain all of the things that their personas desire and to avoid all of the things that their personas fear.
Personas also generate noise and use talk to try to force persons to "look at me" or "notice me" or "pay attention to me" or "learn what I have learned" or "do what I do" or "be like me." Only the Realized are free of such egotism-based game-playing.
Moreover, it is only the Realized that have walked off the stage of the Theater of the Lie where the daily dramas of the non-Realized are being played out by performers / actors / role-players. Only the Realized no longer engage in the Hectoring and shouting and hysteria being generated by those posturing on that stage or strutting about, always trying to stay in the spotlight, always trying to command an audience.
Whoa. Exhausting, just to consider the energy required to support such noisy, uninterrupted inauthenticity.
Ahhh. Relaxing, pondering by contrast the peaceful state of the always-quiet deer.

SHIFTING THE FOCUS FROM THAT WHICH DOES NOT WORK TO THAT WHICH DOES, Part One
A "movement" or "shift" happened here that added another parallel to the many parallels in terms of the phenomenal "experiences" and the noumenal revelations that "Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj" and "Floyd" share in common. (Many visitors over the years have said that they also shared the same parallels with "Maharaj" and "Floyd" as well.)
In the case of "Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj" and "Floyd":
1. both grew up in very poor families 2. both moved to populated areas to seek employment opportunities 3. both exhibited business skills that led to their opening and operating many businesses and to their having a large number of employees working for them 4. both succeeded financially 5. both became attached to accumulating; 6. both married and had a family 7. both were initially religious 8. both moved away from organized religion and became interested in "spiritual" matters, finding and following the teachings of a big name teacher (or, in "Floyd's" case, many big name teachers) 9. both had highly religious wives who were quite displeased with the shift away from religion and toward "spirituality" 10. both began to feel empty in spite of all of their "spiritual seeking" and in spite of all of their accumulated "spiritual knowledge";

11. both began to de-accumulate after both saw that they could survive quite well on a fraction of the income they had been making
12. both had wives who were unhappy when the de-accumulation stage was entered and both had wives who became unhappy about their husbands' focus on non-duality and who blamed their unhappiness on no longer having a religious husband
(The facts be known, in both cases the unhappiness involved the fact that their husbands were no longer interested in - or willing - to work 80+ hours per week and that their husbands were no longer interested in accumulating wealth and possessions and providing the rich lifestyle to which their wives had grown accustomed)
13. both eventually came to see that the religious and spiritual states were also ego-states, and both saw that there are far more steps on the "path" to complete after reaching the religious and spiritual steps and after playing those roles which are the third of seven steps on the entire "path" 14. both "lost" their wives (one via "death," the other through divorce); 15. both accelerated their seeking; 16. both entered into the "forest dweller stage" 17. both Realized 18. both began to de-accumulate even more
19. both began sharing the teachings 20. for years, both answered questions in whatever order those questions were received, though both said that the movement from identification with the false "I" / "I's" involved an exact, step-wise manner of moving along a "path" that involved "going back" in the same (but reverse order) of the way they "came in" - that is, the way that the manifestation happened and the way that the consciousness was blocked through seven stages that resulted in their becoming identified solely with their false personas, with the content of the "mind," and eventually, with the body. But the most significant awareness that finally came to both after years of offering satsang and after having answered thousands and thousands of questions was this: After years of "Maharaj" offering satsang in his loft, and after years of "Floyd" offering satsang in meeting halls and in his home and via what one site visitor called "Floyd's electronic loft," this fact became obvious to both: "Maharaj" came to see in the 1970's and into 1980 and 1981 that his approach was not working and "Floyd" finally came to see the same.
13. both eventually came to see that the religious and spiritual states were also ego-states, and both saw that there are far more steps on the "path" to complete after reaching the religious and spiritual steps and after playing those roles which are the third of seven steps on the entire "path" 14. both "lost" their wives (one via "death," the other through divorce); 15. both accelerated their seeking; 16. both entered into the "forest dweller stage" 17. both Realized 18. both began to de-accumulate even more

21. Both saw that many who heard the teachings are not going to understand (Maharaj reporting that "only 1 in 100,000 are going to 'get' this" understanding)
22. both soon saw that even more than expected of those who heard the teachings were not going to understand (Maharaj modifying his "guesstimate" and reporting that "only 1 in 1,000,000 are going to 'get' this" understanding)
23. eventually both saw that even far more than expected of those who heard the teachings were not going to understand (Maharaj eventually concluding that "only 1 in 10,000,000 are going to 'get' this" understanding). And the failings were not the fault of seekers.
A "one -in-ten-million" estimate is proof that satsang was not working for most seekers, and the evidence here lately is proof of the same.
Both "Maharaj" and "Floyd" invited seekers to focus on the exact, step-wise "path." Yes, during satsang, "Maharaj" sometimes alluded to the steps while discussing them in no particular order - but he never once laid out the steps in the exact order in which they had to be completed. That was not his teachings style or approach.
Looking objectively at the results here when using an "electronic loft" satsang method of sharing has not produced the intended outcome nearly as often as any of the three "face-to-face" methods used with seekers by which they have been led through the seven steps in order.
Here, the body is growing older, of course. Mahasamadhi could be taken today, or it could be taken in twenty years.
Obviously, that cannot be known. But the decision here has been made that whatever amount of the relative existence remains shall be spent in sharing the teachings in the ways that have been seen over the last 20+ years to be the most effective methods.
Looking back over the list of those that have truly received the understanding, it is seen that Robert R. read all of the books, then took the online Advaita course and then completed some face-to-face Skype sessions to receive the final clarifications required. It was seen that Mac read all of the books, completed the online course, and then attended a retreat where he was guided through the seven steps. Mac said that the online course work inspired him to attend the retreat in order to be able to receive the final "pieces." It was seen that Andy Gugar, Jr. read all of the books, then came here for a retreat and was taken through the seven steps in order, and then returned once more for the final clarifications required. After reviewing the shifts that happened with him after attending two retreats, he reaffirmed this past week his commitment to helping spread the non-duality, nisarga understanding as presented here. As a result of seeing what has "worked" during the last 20+ years of sharing the non-duality understanding - and seeing what had not "worked" as well - changes will be made.
SHIFTING THE FOCUS FROM THAT WHICH DOES NOT WORK TO THAT WHICH DOES, Part Two

SHIFTING THE FOCUS FROM THAT WHICH DOES NOT WORK TO THAT WHICH DOES, Part Two
In "Part One," examples were given of seekers that were led to Realization not by satsang but by following the various protocols outlined farther down this page which provide the understanding in the step-wise, orderly, required fashion which moves seekers along a "path" that is as prescribed by Maharaj ... "going back" in the "reverse order" by which the consciousness manifested and became blocked.
However, conversations with some that just read the majority of the books have revealed that they certainly seem to have grasped the understanding and Realized as well.
As a result of seeing what has "worked" during the last 20+ years of sharing the non-duality understanding - and seeing what has "not worked" as well - changes are being made.
There are seven specific steps that happen when awareness-energy is "pulled" into a cycle of manifestation. When that energy manifests as conscious-energy, that formerly pure and unadulterated energy becomes "corrupted" (or "blocked" from seeing clearly) via programming, conditioning, domestication, acculturation, and brainwashing. Soon, there is a belief in the not-Real as a result of seven degrees of separation from an understanding of the Real.
Using the method that was also employed by his contemporaries - a method which focused on offering non-duality pointers via satsang - Maharaj addressed questions in the order in which they were received. He might receive a question from a seeker at the third step and his reply would include what amounted to an invitation to move to the fourth step. The next question might come from a seeker at the first step, and the reply would include an invitation to move to the second step.
The information offered to the second seeker would seemingly contradict what was offered to the first seeker, so visitors who have come here for decades have asked questions which showed how confused they were by the fact that Maharaj's statements to each visitor in his loft were "level-appropriate" yet were provided in no precise order, resulting in what seemed to be an inconsistent message.
So the process overall was confusing in that
seekers were told to follow the "path back" in the same way that they "came in," except in reverse order,
but
pointers were not given in a specific, step-wise order at all.
Maharaj did recognize the seven steps that are taught here, but by offering the teachings in an order that was dictated by the order in which questions were received from seekers who were at different steps on the "path," the result was this:
a pointer about moving beyond the fourth step might be followed by a pointer about moving beyond the first step, and that pointer might be followed by a pointer about how to move beyond the sixth step.
The same was done on this site for seven years. The result is a collection of 1,800 or so essays discussing almost every non-duality topic that can be discussed, and the search button on the top right side of this page will now allow seekers with a question about a specific topic to find an explanation. That method, however, will never provide the manner in which the seven steps on the "path" must be transmitted and received in order to Realize Fully.
An objective study of the history here of more than twenty years of offering non-duality pointers reveals this: seekers that were given pointers in the exact order in which they needed to receive them were the ones that Realized.
They read the books, then they completed the online course and / or completed seven Skype or telephone sessions or came here for a retreat (or watched the downloadable DVD version of an actual retreat, available below).
Some found that which they were seeking by reading the author's book that deal with non-duality subject matter. Via all of those venues, the steps are taught in their proper order.
The essays available on this site will remain for those interested in searching for a discussion of a particular non-duality topic without charge, but the focus here until mahasamadhi is taken is going to be on offering the teachings in the step-wise fashion that has been seen to work.

This anthology of four books by Floyd Henderson contains the volumes that make up what has been called "The Advanced Seekers' Series" for those seeking Realization via the Advaita teachings
This anthology contains the six books that make up what has been called "The Blissful Abidance Series" for those seeking to live blissfully and happily for the remainder of the manifestation, including these books
This book can be read as a "Stand-Alone eBook" or as a "Companion Piece" or "Follow-Up" to be read after "When Only Three Hours of Manifestation Remain."
The author of this book is also the co-author of a book with Mark Houston entitled "A Twelve-Step Journey to SELF-Transformation"
After having guided over 8,000 people through the Twelve Steps, the focus eventually turned toward working with the few who have been seeking recovery for some time but sense that "there must be something more" or who have said, "I am still not where I want to be." A few - even with double-digit "sobriety" - have said, "I don't want to drink ... I want to die."

[Please note: When the Direct Path Teaching Method is offered in conjunction with the Nisarga Yoga, something unique results when compared to what happens via the approach used by religions, spiritual movements, philosophies, ideologies, etc.:
rather than inviting seekers to learn more, the invitation here is to unlearn all; rather than offerings teachings, what is offered are unteachings; rather than offering to provide seekers more of anything, seekers will find that the process will take away everything. And via that process, the bliss of Your Original Nature will manifest and remain until mahasamadhi is taken.
To that end, the content of this book will seem radical to the seekers of more, but for those truly ready to be totally free and totally independent - and for those who are truly ready to abandon efforts to accumulate and to de-accumulate instead - the pointers in this book might be relevant.]
