No Interest in Being Truly Free and Independent 

THE MASSES PREFER DEPENDENCY AND CODEPENDENCY AND ATTACHMENT TO THE THINGS WHICH ROB PERSONS OF THEIR FREEDOM 

The reason that throughout the ages so many among the few that were wise have sounded the alarm regarding personality identification is that assumed roles never show up alone and in a vacuum. 

Like a mob boss (or the political equivalent, namely, a nation’s president or prime minister or king) they show up with a huge retinue including an entourage of advisers, attendants, guards, hangers-on, gofers, spokespersons, etc. 

Like mob bosses, presidents, etc., personal identities / roles / personalities / stage characters / personas / guises / facades / fronts / faces - call them what you will - ego-states show up with an army. 

 

They each have a basic desire and a basic fear - both of which are assured to guarantee the manifestation of misery and suffering - and they each bring an army of defenders and guards. 

Among those defenders and guards of ego-states are belief systems which results from fallacies that - throughout the relative existence - generate “character defects” or “personality traits and personality disorders” and bizarre behaviors. 

Those include abandoning discussion, appeal to pity, personal attack, demands for special consideration, lip service, post hoc, red herrings, and many more. 

Other “character defects” or “personality traits” which the assumption of false identities / ego-states generate include selfishness, judging, projecting, deflection, envy, jealousy, impulsiveness, oversensitivity, procrastination, dependence, isolation, self-pity, perfectionism, false pride, guilt, resentment, intolerance, vengeance, manipulation, dishonesty, fear and an overwhelming desire to control. 

Days ago, there was a discussion regarding how single-mindedly and passionately and fervently persons (that is, those assuming false personal identities and believing that those are real) will ignore relevant facts and will avoid seeing truth. 

It is the goal of ego-defense mechanisms to block persons’ minds from registering and acknowledging and admitting the presence of any “relative character defects” and “tainted personality traits” and “personality disorders” and bizarre behaviors. 

To that end, also generating chaos and misery and suffering are the well-armed guards and defenders of false identities, namely, psychologically-based ego-defense mechanisms which operate in the background to protect against any perceived threat to, or interference with, one’s personal identifications. 

Those include projection, egotism, justification, victimization, blame, rationalization, grandiosity, excessiveness, denial, and many more. 

The greater the ego, the greater the use of those defenders of ego, and of all the “ego-guards” available, denial is one which traps persons in childish thinking, talking and behaving. Why? 

Denial is the refusal to accept reality or fact, acting as if a painful event, thought or feeling did not exist. It is considered one of the most primitive of the defense mechanisms because it is characteristic of the early childhood development stage. 

Another definition of denial is this: "Denial is a psychological defense mechanism in which confrontation with a personal problem or with reality is avoided by denying the existence of the problem or reality."

Regular site visitors know that one of the services here involves personality testing and analysis, beginning with the nine basic personality types which manifest to lesser and greater degrees in all persons. 

Less developed Personality Type Threes often display narcissism, being especially concerned with their public image and seeking admiration and appluase; they also often exhibit Type One traits (Type Ones being perfectionists). 

So if Type Threes are shown to have been at fault in some relative incident, they might consider the possibility for a few seconds but then their narcissism kicks in and they immediately shift to the Type One Perfectionist and once more see themselves as perfect and flawless; then denial of any and all faults will be triggered.

Yet the use of the ego-defense mechanism of denial is not limited to Threes. All persons can – and usually do – use denial to defend the agendas of their false, personal identifications. 

Not only is it narcissists who use denial all day long. Racists live in denial all day long. Xenophobes use denial all day long. Religious fanatics and spiritual giants live in denial as day long. 

Those driven by three of the key symptoms of the Ultimate Sickness - identified by Maharaj as “ignorance, stupidity, and insanity” - also use denial. The ignorant deny the truth; the stupid cannot see the truth; nor can the insane see the truth. 

And those persons, as well as narcissists and racists and xenophobes, all have the following in common: duality-based thoughts and duality-based words and duality-based behaviors. 

To deny the truth is to trap one in ignorance, and being trapped in ignorance - or in anything else - is imprisoning and, therefore, the enemy of freedom and independence.

THE EXPLANATION 

If looked at as nouns, they point to illusions and are, therefore, a total waste of time to even discuss; if looked at as verbs which are resulting in certain sane but rare behaviors among humanity, then they are worthy of some attention during the relative existence. 

Meaning? There are members of certain groups who say things such as "My concept of God in the past was of a weak God, an absentee God, A Santa Claus-type God, a mean, punishing, vindictive God, etc. Today, I am in close contact with a loving and caring God whom I worship and praise and glorify and give thanks to." 

The reply to that usually goes like this: "If you are in contact with a God that wants to be worshipped and praised and glorified, then you're dealing with someone like yourself - a narcissist - and hanging out with narcissists will never bring an end to your narcissism (that narcissism evidenced by the fact that you think you are "godly"). 

Next, in the phrase 'loving and caring God,' any supposed God that truly had her or his act together would tell you that the totally irrelevant part of that phrase is 'God' and that the only part that is relevant is the "loving and caring" part. 

"That is, a non-narcissistic god / goddess would say, "I care not an iota about being worshipped and praised and glorified by you or anyone else. How arrogant and insecure and needy would I have to be to want that? Forget the man-made, dreamed up noun 'God' and focus on the 'God as a verb' understanding and then go forth and let loving and caring be verbs - not adjectives - and let them generate the act of love and the act of caring and let those actions manifest through you." 

Yeshu'a (Jesus) and Pope John Paul II and Pope Francis were spot on: 

"No one shall ever see 'the kingdom of heaven.' It is within" 

--Yeshu'a (Jesus) 

and 

"Heaven and earth shall fade away." 

--Yeshu'a (Jesus) 

and 

"Heaven and hell are not geographic places 

but are states of mind, nothing more than 

concepts dreamed up by men." 

--Pope John Paul II 

"There is no hell." 

--Pope Francis, the current pope 

in an interview with journalist Eugenio Scalfari, 

a writer used by the Pope to issue off the record 

teachings which become a part of the Papal Magisterium. 

[That said, would that the popes who have shown the courage to reject a core concept of their dogma - namely, "hell" - would find the additional courage required to question the very existence of their institution in light of the centuries-long cover-up of their history of raping children and in light of the mental and emotional and psychological scarring of billions of their members past and present. 

And that need for courage also applies as questions need to be asked about why so many other sky cults are still being supported and allowed to continue to exist as well. When certain types of programming and conditioning have been shown to blind the masses, they should end. Will they? Not likely. Why? 

Because what the masses think and say and do is most influenced by the international crime families which hold sway over the masses as criminals conduct their planet-wide operations. What are the major international crime families and which are the most influential and have the largest memberships? 

The Mafia / La Cosa Nostra; the Catholic Church (with it 1.2 billion followers); Protestant and Evangelical Churches (with over 1.2 billion followers) like the one I was raised in where the youth director molested and sexually assaulted young girls; big business which has long created environments in which people have been abused; powerful political bodies like the U.S. Congress, etc., etc., etc.) 

With all of those crime families, neither the followers nor the leadership ever voluntarily step down or shut down their criminal activities. Be they gangs, organized crime families, religions, big business, politicians, etc., they all want control and they all want power and they all want money, and nothing internal will interfere with the driving forces at play. 

The masses must demand that all those in charge must step down and their groups and institutions must shut down, and there's the real problem because the continuation of their crimes are enabled not as much by the people running such crime organizations as they are enabled by the masses of people who - wanting some perceived "payoff" - remain involved with them and give them money and support them and aid and abet the continued existence of those criminal enterprises and thus facilitate the ability of church criminals and political criminals and other types of criminals to continue to commit their crimes.]

Yesterday, mention was made of “Bill” who was our resident “Super Buddhist” during the days of his early visits to this site before the non-dual understanding washed away his attachment to that role. 

Some of his writings have been shared in the past and a note received from him this morning will be shared as well since it evidences the shift which can happen from (a) entrapment in roles and beliefs to (b) freedom from being entrapped by those and all other concepts, so the continuation of the discussion of the ego-defense mechanism of “denial” will continue Wednesday. 

Again, this reminder before reading:

Hey Floyd, 

I was reading your post from yesterday and thinking about all of the deception and falseness in organized religion. Buddhist’s start with venerating a summation of Buddhism in the Dhammapada that is totally wrong headed to awakening “To do good, to shun evil and to purify the mind. that is the teaching of the Buddhas.” 

I did a search of my journal for that quote and came up with the following entry: 

I am sitting by the river again and the sound of the bells and chimes come from the Lear Theater across the water. The bells come from an art sculpture created for the Burning Man festival hosted by the city of Reno and the Arts Council. 

People cannot help but ring it as they go by. It makes me think of the bell ringing and the chanting tests that were part of my ordination tests in Japan, along with writing a Master’s thesis to obtain the stature of ‘teacher’ in a Buddhist sect. 

It was truly a waste, and as Buddha has said, "Truly I have gained nothing from enlightenment." I can say truly in the relative sense I gained nothing from years of chanting and bell ringing. 

These were distractions keeping me busy being a spiritual giant, a spiritual workaholic in my process of pursuing the false ‘hero’s journey’. But so what? The spiritual seeker is genuinely a trap, and a big one at that, and yet in Maya's house are many mansions. 

It was as good as any other role on the stage. In Maya's house are many rooms with doors that are not really locked but you can almost never leave. 

There I did it again. I quoted the Buddha, and who the hell has any idea what he actually said, as nothing was written down for 500 years. The documents are easily as unreliable to scholars as the New Testament documents. 

And yet there is a kernel of truth and wisdom in some of Buddha’s statements. "I have broken down the ridgepole and the rafters fall. The structure is no more." This I certainly get. He is saying to tear down the house of false identities to be with non-dual awareness. 

But the oft quoted summation of his teaching in the Dhammapada "To do good, to shun evil and to purify the mind, this is the teaching of the Buddhas” is completely wrong. Good and evil, as Shakespeare noted are in the mind of the beholder. And the mind in general is a false collection of programming and conditioning. 

The idea of purifying instead of purging a false mind is ludicrous. How is it possible to purify and cleanse something that isn’t real to begin with? And the idea of thousands of monks obeying the Vinaya, the ‘rules’, is a hopeless subterfuge. 

The rules are too voluminous and too ridiculous to list here but range from never voluntarily ejaculating your sperm, to never building a shelter over two yards by three yards in size, to never keeping an extra robe over 10 days, not to keep an extra bowl for over 10 days, not to accept a floor carpet only made of black sheep’s wool, and of course to never touch a woman (heaven forbid). 

This just touches the surface of the huge and hidden iceberg of complete madness that religion generates in the name of holiness. 

The obstacles to Realizing are body, mind and personality identifications. Can you see that the holy personas of religion including the many rules just listed only add more and more identifications to those already bound? It adds seemingly good personas and identities (chains) like the ‘holy one’ or the ‘spiritual warrior’ but chains dipped in gold glitter are just as confining and heavy as rusty ones. 

Self-identifications are patently false and the cause of bondage. 

Well put, Bill, and that’s why self-identifications and beliefs and religious rules are on the list which is currently under examination as we see all that contributes to the cause of bondage and to the loss of freedom.

"The truth will set you free, but it’s really going to piss you off first.” 

Some claim incorrectly that Buddha said, "Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth.” In fact, it’s a not-totally-accurate paraphrasing of certain pointers shared by certain monks over the ages which suggested that the discipline of a Tathagata [Buddha] can shine for all to see. The actual origin might be in some Buddhist pointer but is not likely to be an exact quote. 

Might “the discipline” be obvious? To some, maybe. Might “the truth” be obvious? Almost to none. In fact, there is probably nothing in the history of the totality of the human experience that has been more avoided or hidden than . . . the truth.

Bill, who visits this site regularly, could probably write an entire treatise on the subject but that is not required for the points in today’s post to be made. 

What is clear is that . . . 

a. the human masses cannot differentiate between the true and the false; 

b. the human masses do not know that they cannot differentiate between the true and the false;

c. the human masses, were they to recognize that fact, would still not seek the truth because 

d. the human masses avoid the truth like the plague, and because

e. the truth is the last thing that most persons want to hear. 

Beliefs regarding "VIP Personages / personages / personhood / personality identifications," at their very core, are lies, are deceptions, are falsehoods, are mirages, are illusions, and are fantasies. 

Nevertheless, persons over the ages have dreamed up all sorts of personages - false, personal roles and self-identifications - as well as VIP Personages. 

VIP Personages 

"VIP Personages" dreamed up during the last 5000 years have included dozens and scores and even millions of dreamed up gods and goddesses or a god. And when word of those dreamed up VIP Personages were shared with their relatives and fiends (uh, I mean, friends) and the members of their communities - and when those false tales were eventually circulated all around the globe - there was either little or no questioning at all about the truthfulness or lack thereof regarding the claims that such VIP Personages existed and were real. 

Some formed religions to worship those VIP Personages / Gods and Goddesses / Powers / Higher Powers etc. in order to gain some benefits or avoid some misfortunes. 

One bunch came up with 33 million gods and goddesses or various permutations of some Super Being or Super Self or Super Reality. 

Another bunch came up with 12 main gods and an overall total of 3142 other gods and goddesses if one counts their main gods and their principal deities and their host of other different gods and goddesses and demigods. 

Another bunch later on came up with 20 main gods and 12 principal deities along with 67 different gods and goddesses in their pantheon along with plenty of additional demigods. 

Generally speaking, those former gods can be grouped into three categories: 

Creator gods 

Sustainer gods 

Destroyer gods. 

Then a fellow supposedly named "Abraham" came along and said there are no gods and goddesses and, instead, there is only one God and he is of a male gender. When the masses finally got on board with that notion, they still held their beliefs about the need to be in relationship with a God that took care of creating and sustaining and destroying, so they combined all of the former types of gods into one and came up with a total schizo God who will supposedly work with parents to create another human, who will supposedly answer prayers of pleading for what is needed to sustain them and their “new human,” but who can get really angry and is therefore willing to destroy and punish them for eternity. 

Over the ages, trillions of persons believed - 100% and unquestioningly - in the hosts of gods and goddesses which are now seen by most to have been total myths, total figments of the imagination. 

Post Abraham, though, most believers simply gave up their past beliefs about deities and got on board with "the one god notion." How many of their descendants are around now and what do they call themselves? 

The members of "the religions of Abraham" make up the majority nowadays:

There are three religions of Abraham - Judaism, Christianity, and Islam - and their numbers are as follows: 

2.4 billion call themselves Christians; 

1.8 billion call themselves Muslims; 

and 

6.5 million call themselves Jews. 

In addition to the religions of Abraham, 1.15 billion call themselves Hindus. 

That comes to about 6 billion persons who believe in a VIP Personage or in multiple VIP Personages who live in another world but who control everything that happens on earth. 

Additionally, there are another 1.5 billion who are members of a variety of other religions. 

Therefore, of the 7.7 billion humans presently on planet earth, 7.5 billion claim a religious affiliation and passionately and obsessively and fervently and ardently and overpoweringly believe in one or another VIP Personage or Personages.

Persons 

If one who has reached the age of 30 were to reflect honestly and thoroughly, she or he would likely find at least 80 roles or personal identities which has been assigned or assumed and vigorously played and defended throughout the relative existence. 

The number of personas assumed and believed in and played cannot come anywhere close to the number of Personages which have been believed in throughout the ages, but 80-120 assumed personas is a significant number nevertheless. 

To inquire, “What would you say you are?” could trigger the compiling of a list which might include, 

“a human,” “a spouse / partner / mate,” “a “parent,” “an employee,” “an employer,” “a neighbor,” “a Christian / Jews / Muslim / Hindu, etc.,” “a preacher / priest / imam / rabbi, etc.,” "a teacher,” “a Realized one,” “a spiritual one,” “ad infinitum, ad infinitum, ad infinitum,” “etc., etc., etc.,” “blah blah blah blah blah.” 

And none of those or any other assumed persona would be the truth. Yet how many want to understand that truth? 

If someone moans, “My wife left me. I’m not a husband anymore,” the last thing they want to hear is the truth, namely, “You never were a husband to begin with.” Persons will defend their false identities, often to the death:

“You’re going to leave me?! The hell you are! I’ll kill you and myself both I let that happen!!” 

When the two teens at Columbine were in the process of injuring 24 and killing 15 (including themselves) it is reported that three students were cornered. One was asked, “Do you believe in God?” When the answer “Yes” was given, that student was shot. The second was asked, “Do you believe in God?” When the answer “Yes” was given, that student was shot. 

Then the third student, a girl, was asked, “Do you believe in God?” When the answer “Yes” was given, she was shot. 

Really? After seeing the consequence of that "Yes" answer two times, someone is still going to go full speed ahead and give the same answer? Yet millions might have likely given the same fatal answer she gave. Who would not do that?

Any person not conditioned and programmed to hold dear their unquestioned belief in gods or a god. A wise person like that would have said when asked - thirdly - if she believed in god would have said:

"Who's that you're asking about? 'God,' you say? Sorry, never heard of him. Nope, couldn't possibly believe in him."

The girl’s pastor on the following Sunday stood in a pulpit and effusively lauded and praised and glorified that girl for her courage, for her steadfastness, for her devotion to her god and for her willingness to proclaim her faith even when all of the evidence suggested that to do so was going to get her a bullet in the head. 

If one were trying to train a dog to go outside to take a dump, would that trainer – upon seeing that the dog just took another dadgum dump on the white carpet – approach the dog and pet it and exclaim, “Good dog! Good, sweet doggie!!! Here’s a biscuit treat for you!!!” 

Would not a loving and wise pastor have advised the congregation, "Listen up, people, and listen good. Let's not let her death be in vain. If you're asked that question after seeing that an answer in the affirmative is going to get your ass shot, don't be stupid! Lie like a dog! We'll give you a mulligan the following Sunday!! Don't sweat it. So the only correct answer would be, Not only 'no' but 'HELL NO'!!"

Yet some will defend their assigned / assumed roles to the death. 

“I am godly, and I’ll more than gladly die as I shout that truth from the mountaintop!” 

BS. You died for telling what was a lie to start with. All is energy / matter, and neither can be created nor destroyed, so there is no "Creator" and there are no "creators." Your belief that there is a god and that you are godly is nothing more than a figment of someone’s imagination that became a figment of your imagination when you allowed someone to define who or what you are without having a clue about the reality behind that distortion. 

What you are presently - and only temporarily - is a composite unity of plant food elements that is circulating air as well as many forms of energy, one of which is conscious-energy. And to believe otherwise can hasten the return of those three parts to their sources: to the universal pool of elements, to the universal pool of air, and to the universal pool of conscious-energy. 

As noted, 59% of all women killed annually in the U.S. die when they announce that they are going to leave their partner / spouse / mate, whatever. So strong is the belief in a false identity (in their personages, in their personas) that they persons (persona-players) will die and / or kill to maintain their false identities. 

But how persons hate it if someone comes along and says, “Calm down. She was never ‘Your Wife’ and you were never ‘Her Husband’ . . . those are just two of the hundreds of false personages that cultures in the past just made up and passed down to you . . . no more real than the ancient VIP Personages - the ancient gods and goddesses and the present God that billions believe in and worship and beg to - that were just made up and handed down to generations of offspring."

Yet those pointers to truth will be denied by the masses who prefer their lies to the shocking truth that they have been conned and duped throughout their entire relative existence. 

To deny truth and to avoid truth and to try to escape truth and to dissociate from truth reveals the presence of the symptoms of the Ultimate Sickness which Maharaj identified as "ignorance, stupidity, and insanity" and is to set the stage for the manifestation of dual-mindedness and chaos and even more insanity.

Tomorrow: More on denial which is considered one of the most primitive of the defense mechanisms because its use is characteristic of having fixated in an early childhood development stage and because it has long been one of the key sustainers of the beliefs in myths and falsehoods and distortions and delusions.

THE EXPLANATION 

If looked at as nouns, they point to illusions and are, therefore, a total waste of time to even discuss; if looked at as verbs which are resulting in certain sane but rare behaviors among humanity, then they are worthy of some attention during the relative existence. 

Meaning? There are members of certain groups who say things such as "My concept of God in the past was of a weak God, an absentee God, A Santa Claus-type God, a mean, punishing, vindictive God, etc. Today, I am in close contact with a loving and caring God whom I worship and praise and glorify and give thanks to." 

The reply to that usually goes like this: "If you are in contact with a God that wants to be worshipped and praised and glorified, then you're dealing with someone like yourself - a narcissist - and hanging out with narcissists will never bring an end to your narcissism (that narcissism evidenced by the fact that you think you are "godly"). 

Next, in the phrase 'loving and caring God,' any supposed God that truly had her or his act together would tell you that the totally irrelevant part of that phrase is 'God' and that the only part that is relevant is the "loving and caring" part. 

"That is, a non-narcissistic god / goddess would say, "I care not an iota about being worshipped and praised and glorified by you or anyone else. How arrogant and insecure and needy would I have to be to want that? Forget the man-made, dreamed up noun 'God' and focus on the 'God as a verb' understanding and then go forth and let loving and caring be verbs - not adjectives - and let them generate the act of love and the act of caring and let those actions manifest through you." 

Yeshu'a (Jesus) and Pope John Paul II and Pope Francis were spot on: 

"No one shall ever see 'the kingdom of heaven.' It is within" 

--Yeshu'a (Jesus) 

and 

"Heaven and earth shall fade away." 

--Yeshu'a (Jesus) 

and 

"Heaven and hell are not geographic places 

but are states of mind, nothing more than 

concepts dreamed up by men." 

--Pope John Paul II 

"There is no hell." 

--Pope Francis, the current pope 

in an interview with journalist Eugenio Scalfari, 

a writer used by the Pope to issue off the record 

teachings which become a part of the Papal Magisterium. 

[That said, would that the popes who have shown the courage to reject a core concept of their dogma - namely, "hell" - would find the additional courage required to question the very existence of their institution in light of the centuries-long cover-up of their history of raping children and in light of the mental and emotional and psychological scarring of billions of their members past and present. 

And that need for courage also applies as questions need to be asked about why so many other sky cults are still being supported and allowed to continue to exist as well. When certain types of programming and conditioning have been shown to blind the masses, they should end. Will they? Not likely. Why? 

Because what the masses think and say and do is most influenced by the international crime families which hold sway over the masses as criminals conduct their planet-wide operations. What are the major international crime families and which are the most influential and have the largest memberships? 

The Mafia / La Cosa Nostra; the Catholic Church (with it 1.2 billion followers); Protestant and Evangelical Churches (with over 1.2 billion followers) like the one I was raised in where the youth director molested and sexually assaulted young girls; big business which has long created environments in which people have been abused; powerful political bodies like the U.S. Congress, etc., etc., etc.) 

With all of those crime families, neither the followers nor the leadership ever voluntarily step down or shut down their criminal activities. Be they gangs, organized crime families, religions, big business, politicians, etc., they all want control and they all want power and they all want money, and nothing internal will interfere with the driving forces at play. 

The masses must demand that all those in charge must step down and their groups and institutions must shut down, and there's the real problem because the continuation of their crimes are enabled not as much by the people running such crime organizations as they are enabled by the masses of people who - wanting some perceived "payoff" - remain involved with them and give them money and support them and aid and abet the continued existence of those criminal enterprises and thus facilitate the ability of church criminals and political criminals and other types of criminals to continue to commit their crimes.]

No Interest in Being Truly Free and Independent 

THE MASSES PREFER DEPENDENCY AND CODEPENDENCY AND ATTACHMENT TO THE THINGS WHICH ROB PERSONS OF THEIR FREEDOM 

When the point is made that “the masses prefer dependency and codependency and attachment to the things which rob persons of their freedom,” let a related key pointer be offered as well: 

When the term “the masses” is used above, that includes not only the 99%+ on the planet who are among the “non-realized” as well as all of the “non-seekers” and the 97% who are attached to one organized religion or another or the millions absorbed in one so-called “spiritual program” or another on the planet. 

Yet it also includes those seeking via the ancient Eastern teachings; via non-duality; via a variety of Eastern teaching methods including the Traditional Advaita Method, the Direct Path Method, the Neo-Advaita Method, the Neo-Vedanta Method, the Pseudo-Advaita Method and innumerable permutations of those five. 

When Maharaj used a religion / non-dual compounded version of the Ultimate Medicine, persons were attracted to his loft for twice-a-day bhajan sessions with sprinklings of non-dual pointers which he inserted into the format. 

When Maharaj switched to the use of a spirituality / non-dual compounded version of the Ultimate Medicine, huge numbers of persons - especially from the West - were attracted to his loft for twice-a-day satsang sessions. 

However, the next change he made resulted in the popularity of his message peaking and then declining . . . 

1. because he came to understand that the Ultimate Sickness is a mental sickness rather than a too-little-dogma sickness or a “spiritual malady” kind of illness; 

2. and because he came to understand that religious and / or spiritual versions of the Ultimate Medicine were having no consistent or long-term effect on eliminating the symptoms of the Ultimate Sickness; 

and 

3. because he stopped serving up non-dual pointers as either a religious or spiritual cocktail and began using a psychology-based approach which addressed the actual source of the problem, namely, the warped and nonsense-filled minds of almost all humans.

When he stopped with all the religious stuff and when he abandoned the fanaticism-based spiritual stuff, the praises offered up to him in the past were replaced with criticism, including such comments as . . . 

"The later books of Maharaj do not enjoy the same clarity as 'I Am That'. It seems that he himself got complicated or rather evolved himself or declined maybe as happens to many teachers. It is also the lack of quality of translation in the level of "I Am That". 

"At first when he was still listening to his guru he was telling the truth, like he did in 'I AM THAT.' In his other talks, his ego made him start telling things he dreamed up on his own that were not true." 

"He deteriorated from one of the great spiritual men of all times to one of the least spiritual people of all times." 

To the latter, Maharaj would have likely said, “Bingo! You got it!!” 

He would eventually say, “Compared to you spiritual giants, I am but a spiritual pygmy.” 

He said:

“Give up spirituality” 

and 

“Follow your normal inclinations" 

and 

"forget spirituality."

and

"just give up spirituality and abide naturally." 

He advised:

“Stop reading I AM THAT and listen to my later talks.” 

He said that those talks in I AM THAT "were for that time only and are not applicable now."

So that final understanding of the fact that the Sickness is a mental sickness led him eventually to advise seekers to 

stop reading I AM THAT, 

stop with all their religious and spiritual seeking, 

address the mind problem which is at the root of the Ultimate Sickness, 

be freed from the learned ignorance that was taught and from the insanity which was imposed from outside (via parental and societal influences), 

stop abiding unnaturally, 

stop trying to abide supernaturally (magically, spiritually, etc.) 

and then 

just abide naturally, the way that every living thing on the planet abides except for programmed and conditioned humans. 

Such was the nature of his later talks which came to an end on Wednesday, 9 September 1981, and such were the changes which brought the critics out in full force, inspired by the advice above as well as these additional pointers:

"I do not follow the spirituality of the masses." 

"Whatever spiritual things you aspire to know are all happening in this objective world, in the illusion. All this is happening in the objective world. All is dishonesty. There is no truth in this fraud." 

"I am not addicted to self-descriptions [such as] 'soham' and [such as] 'brahmasmi'." 

[Note: "Soham" means, "I myself" or "It is I" or "He is I". "Brahmasmi" means, "I am Brahman" or "I am the Supreme" or "I am God" or "I am the Infinite Supreme Soul" or "I am part of the Brahman" - that being an implication of duality in itself.] 

He said:

"Subsequent to that 'I Am' and body-mind, and in the realm of the mind, there occurs what you call 'spiritual seeking', or 'spiritual knowledge'. This is nonsense." 

"I appeal to you with my folded hands: don't get into this spirituality." 

"The sum total of my spirituality now is nothing. Even that word 'nothing' is not there, so there is no spirituality left." 

“When the birth is disproved, the great noble meaning of spirituality and the meaning of this world—everything—is disproved.” 

“If [persons] come face-to-face with that root, they will be stunned into silence.” 

"After the information given to you by the mother, that you are a boy or girl, all your further acquisitions are by hearsay." 

“From the Absolute no-knowing state, spontaneously, this consciousness ‘I am’ has appeared—there is no reason, no cause.” 

"There is no such thing as spirituality; whatever is, is only this 'worldly' life, in the five-elemental play." 

"Those who have apperceived my knowledge will not fall prey to the logic or spirituality expounded by others." 

Q.: "I want to live a good life, a holy life. What am I to do?" 

M: "Go home; take charge of your father's business; look after your parents in their old age. Marry the girl who is waiting for you. Be loyal, be simple, be humble. Hide your virtue. Live silently." 

Q.: "So many saints and mystics lived and died. They did not change my world." 

M.: "How could they? Your world is not theirs, nor is theirs yours." 

"I got involved in spirituality, in the business of spirituality, [but] finally I lost that love of 'the Self' also. I have no more love for 'the Self'." 

Indeed, all of those pointers brought his “popularity” to a peak and a subsequent fall. 

Similarly, when the use of religious and / or spirituality-based pointers ended here, so did the high number of visitors to the site. 

So it is. 

As noted here time and again, “The truth will set you free, but it’s really going to piss you off first.” 

The case here now is the case that was with Maharaj:

He told visitors to the loft that they were not going to get anything there because he was about the business of “taking everything away.” 

Talk about an unpopular message among the masses, including among the 99%+ on the planet who are among the “non-realized” as well as all of the “non-seekers” and the 97% who are attached to one organized religion or another or the millions absorbed in one so-called “spiritual program” or another on the planet and also those seeking via the ancient Eastern teachings and via non-duality. 

A short drive north of the room where I am typing this post, there is the Texas State Penitentiary at Huntsville. I moved to south Texas around 1980. From then until 11 December 2018, the state of Texas has killed 558 individuals in that facility. 

Why did the state of Texas kill those 558 people? 

Because those 558 people had . . . killed people. 

Ah, the irony of life in the U.S. 

The relevance to today’s post? 

How insane would it be for inmates interred in the Texas State Penitentiary at Huntsville to live in a prison but to believe that they are free? 

Quite insane, yes? 

Yet that is way that billions of persons abide all around the globe, incarcerated in the prison of their minds and in the fears and unmet desires which their minds are generating.
