FROM A SITE VISITOR: Im in a program where they keep telling me to keep it simple, but nothing is simple in my life anymore. Really I see that my life has never been simple but its supposed to be getting there but its not. In fact its all very complicated. I started searching on the internet a few months ago and found your site and have been reading along each day. I did a search for “alcohol” and “alcoholism” and “addiction” and read some things from a Lisa back in February and maybe in October (don’t know if that’s the same person but I started relating to what you said to her). I also read some things you wrote back to “anonymous” and I dont understand everything you said to Lisa and anonymous but somehow what you told them seems to be resonating with me too. Ive never been more lost in my life and I do want to keep it simple and it sounds like youve figured that out for you without any program. Can you help me get what you have? Anonymous Too.

F.: Hello Anonymous Too. Those were not likely the same “Lisa.” One seemed ready to move on to the next level while the other did not. As for the question, “Can I help you?” you’re too early into this deal to understand the teachings about the concepts of “help” and “helping,” so let it suffice to say that you are invited…

…to read the response that follows

…to see if you understand why “lives” become complicated, and then

…to see if you can understand the means by which a return to simplicity can happen.

Recent posts were responses to persons who are seeking more knowledge, seeking to be better, seeking to gain more, seeking to improve, seeking to be reborn someday—to be made flesh again at some future time, seeking to improve themselves, seeking to keep some of the “old parts” and to develop “new personalities” during multiple reincarnations, etc.

The processes they believe in would be quite complicated and strenuous and laborious if they really happened (which they don’t). But the ego always chooses complication and complexity over simplicity, the “noisy” mind over the simple quietness, the lofty concept over the modest reality.

Far preferable to the ego (which is identified with a body and mind and personality that longs for continuity at all cost) is the simplicity of NOW, and NOW only.

This is an excerpt from an interview that touched on the simplicity of the “lowest” common denominator:

“But back to the common element that is All. Modern physicists at first called that smallest building block ‘strings’ until some decided that an even-more-basic element exists which they call a ‘sparticle.’ Names notwithstanding, there is only one single ingredient to what we call ‘everything’ or ‘the diversity’ or ‘the entire universe.’ I call it ‘That,’ That which is the one and only whatever that is Real, typically Unmanifest, occasionally manifested, or not. ‘Everything’ is really one thing. The term ‘unicity’ is accurate.”

You don’t have to understand all of that at this point in order to continue, but the point is, it’s all so simple, really. It’s all so simple in Reality. If you functioned as THAT, as that simplest “whatever” without all of the complications that have been “added on” along the way, imagine how simple your “life” could be.

The seven-step process that is taught in FROM THE I TO THE ABSOLUTE or in sessions here is a process of simplification…of “going back” to the simplest point before all the complications were “added.”

How does the simple become so complex? In the interview referenced above, this was also offered:

“Do you not see that there is a common element of energy that moves about this manifestation, moving via flora and fauna from one form to another, taking on the appearance to the naked eye of this type cell cluster here or that type cell cluster there? That moving energy is the same life-force which is also moving about via light waves and light particles, absorbed into manifested forms. Therefore, it is not the eating of the salad that sustains your ‘life’ and the manifestation of consciousness. It is the consumption of that life-force that is within the plant, followed by the natural ‘absorption’ of that life-force into ‘your’ cells, which allows for a continuation of the manifestation of consciousness. Again, it is not really an ‘absorption’ or ‘conversion.’ More accurately, It Is What It Is, and It Is Doing What It Does, automatically. You Are That. The heron Is That. The fish Is That. It does not change, for It Is The Real. All else is an illusion, perceived as ‘varied forms’ to the eye. Yet the forms with their varied appearances are merely manifestations of the three basics: the elements, the air, and the energy-consciousness.

“Understand that what you call ‘death’ is just the distillation of all that has been attached or ‘added’ since manifestation—via the teaching of concepts—to the essence, the pure consciousness-energy. The distilling, or the cleansing or stripping away of all that is not essence-only, is an act of re-purifying (or unblocking) the consciousness. But you call it ‘death’ as if it were something to be detested. The dirty mind—filled with its myths, lies, concepts, beliefs, emotions, ideas, and superstitions—hates the notion of such cleansing and purification. Programmed humans love their beliefs and concepts, defining themselves with those ideas. Don’t dare try to cleanse their minds, for they’ll want to kill you. The last thing most want is to be freed of the garbage in their minds which they think is so valuable. To challenge their beliefs is to attack them personally, so they think. Filth loves filth. Corruption loves corruption. The familiar is attracted to the familiar.

Are you beginning to see, Anonymous Too, how simple it all was before “they” programmed you with their beliefs and ideas? It is all that you have been taught, all that has been “added” and has formed your “mind,” that has generated all the complications. In the beginning it was all so simple. Are you seeing what is required for a return to simplicity? Continue reading what was shared with the interviewer:

“But that essence-only is what You Are, what I Am. ‘Born in sin?’ Surely they jest. It is at that time of ‘birth’ that one is closest to the pure, the Real, the essence. Not again until ‘death,’ which is the releasing of the consciousness from a space, will it be freed of all the crap and the impurities that this culture pumps into it. The closest thing to ‘sin’ is the corrupting of the pure consciousness by the so-called ‘leaders’ in any society as they disseminate their self-serving lies. They are the leaders in the corruption process. Their ‘power’ is the power to corrupt.”

Enough for today. Take this into contemplation. Try to recall how simple it was at some point and how much more complicated it became as you were taught more and more concepts, most of them contradictory. Recall how confused you became as they told you to behave in one way while they behaved in another.

See how the simplicity was lost after complicated and contradictory concepts were taught and were stored in what you call "your mind." Then revisit the literature being used in that program you’ve been in, specifically the line that says, “The main problem centers in the mind.” Please enter the silence of contemplation. EACH CONCEPT BELIEVED IS ONE OF THE BARS OF THE PRISON OF THE “MIND”

FROM A SITE VISITOR: You said that there is no such thing as improving or being better. Then why not kill? Why not abandon all purpose and all positive actions to benefit mankind? Why not just stop trying to give your life meaning? It seems your plan is either one big “get out of jail free card” or one big excuse for being a bum. Tommy

F.: Hello, Tommy. The following response is not for you, since you will not understand. This response will be for those at the dry charcoal stage who are positioned to move to the gunpowder stage if they grasp a few salient pointers.

The reason that Realized Advaitins do not kill, if they do not kill, is because they are beyond the insanity of self-injury. If a person were to kill me, that would not hurt Me at all. On the other hand, that person will have reinforced his/her sense of separation and will therefore have injured herself/himself, relatively speaking.

As for “purpose,” how much of what you have determined to be your purpose has worked out according to your plans? And how much that actually came about was in spite of your plans? And how many testimonials to your having been "a benefit" are actually in circulation?

Too, consider happenings that you would label “bad” happenings. Did you ask for them? Did you plan for them? Did you have even the slightest clue that those events were coming? Of course not. You were blind-sided.

And of all that is currently taking place as a result of your “planning,” if it has not yet been seen to have ended in a manner that was quite different from your plan, then wait. That will come. Relative fortune usually comes without planning, while all of man's plans generally run awry.

Furthermore, the Advaitin does not automatically “do good” post-Realization; typically, the Realized merely stop "harming." That is enough.

Next, you speak of “positive.” Here, "negation" is the topic. Negation is the topic of the egoless; “positive” is the topic of egos and their accompanying egotism. With your talk of purpose and meaning, your ego believes that it is responsible for many “good” things, but to be responsible for something would mean you have total control over it.

The fact is, however, you can control nothing. All of your false notions about control and meaning and responsibility are in your mind only, but the mind is the repository of all nonsense. Were it not for a “mind” recalling nonsense and then passing on nonsense, then natural living could happen and nonsense could end.

As for being a bum, if I could be a bum, then you could be a person. But you are not a person. Your words show that you know self-love but you haven’t a clue about Self Love. If you could Love Me, then there would be proof that you love yourself. If you hate Me, then there is proof that you hate yourself. Both your love and your hate are nothing more than self-reflections.

As for “jail,” the real jail is the prison of your mind, and each bar of your prison is one of the concepts that you hold dear: improvement, betterment, purpose, positive action, life, meaning, bum-ness, expert-ness, grand-ness and an infinite number of other concepts that you hold dear.

For you, and for all who think they have found, you have not. There is nothing to find. There is only being rid of that which you think you have learned and then un-learning it all.

The invitation is to cast aside all beliefs you hold dear and to know that there is no heaven, no hell, no nirvana, no paradise, no samsara, no in-betweens, no purgatory. Only when you remove all of the obstacles called "your beliefs" can you know and be free. You have no beliefs. You have merely adopted "their" beliefs as your own.

You wrote because you obviously want something, but I want nothing. To use a pair of the type of dualities you clearly appreciate, if one wants but the other does not…

…which is full, and which is empty? The one wanting or that which wants not? Please enter the silence of contemplation.

WHAT “NIRVANA” IS…AND ISN’T, Part Two

FROM A SITE VISITOR: Iam happy that I have found this blog. How can I experience Nirvana? Thank you, Bhadanta

F.: “Nirvana” in Sanskrit technically refers to “the extinguishing of the flame of life” (literally (“out” + “blown”) and to “emancipation from matter.” So how can you “experience nirvana”?

Here’s the conundrum: to experience “nirvana,” the temporarily manifested consciousness that You Are must unmanifest (what the non-Realized take to be “death” or “the end of life”). Yet if not manifested, nothing can be experienced or known. In fact, there is not even an "experiencer" or "knower" now!

The very question you asked seems to suggest that you have been exposed to Jainism or Buddhism or some similar teachings; if so, you’ll have a problem with this pointer: the manifested consciousness can know ItSelf, but contrary to what you might have been told, there is no “one” (post-manifestation) that can know anything.

Awareness will be, yes, but there will be no means by which awareness can be aware of itself. So the dilemma for you is to unlearn certain concepts if you would understand the pointer that "to know nirvana requires the completion of certain steps—during the present manifestation—by which the knower disappears."

Now, Advaita does offer a solution, because post-Realization, it is possible to abide as THAT and function as that original natural—dwelling as that natural state that is most “nirvana-like”—even though yet manifest.

More specifically, what you could know is “nivritti,” meaning the rejection of body-mind-personality identification and being “liberated” to that extent. Such liberation would include a rejection of all beliefs about the conceptual “world” and would include the freedom that you are likely seeking as you want to “attain nirvana.”

[NOTE: Understand that the peace you seek can only happen as a result of wanting nothing and fearing nothing, and that includes not wanting nirvana and not wanting bliss. Want not if peace is to happen.]

The question must be asked, "Is 'the extinguishing of the flame of life' what you really seek, or do you seek peace NOW, even as the relative life continues?" Nirvana refers to a “reunion” as the temporary Amness concludes. The notion of “this” uniting with “that” is dualistic, certainly in line with the Buddhist teachings but quite contrary to the Advaitin understanding of “not-two.”

Many seek “peace” and/or “bliss.” Some believe that they must evolve through (1) a series of reincarnations by which they (2) “improve” or (3) “become better,” but all three of those concepts are also rejected by Advaitins.

If peace is to happen and is to be enjoyed, it can only happen NOW. To believe that one can “be in nirvana” is only possible to the extent that the consciousness can be totally re-purified or unblocked, to the extent that the “mind” is no more, and to the extent that identification is only with the dark silence of the void.

But WHO can know that void, post-manifestation? No one. To understand nirvana as “the final dissolution,” understand the nothingness that preceded the stirring of consciousness and its manifestation. To understand the lack of peace, understand programming and conditioning.

It was the acceptance of the teaching of concepts and ideas and lies—and storing those accumulations in what is called “your mind”—that has set you up to have no peace and that has set you up to engage in all this seeking. The trap is, seeking will never bring peace.

You need not become better, you need not improve, you need not gain more, and you need not accumulate more. You must de-accumulate and cast aside and reject and un-learn.

It was after the formation of the “mind” that the projecting of “this world” happened. All of your discontentment involves the “stuff” of “this world” that you are taking to be real. If you would be at peace, it will not come via reincarnation, which is a hoax.

It can only come NOW if You take Your stand as that natural state of no mind and no projecting. That is as close to "nirvana" as you can be…and still be. Please enter the silence of contemplation.

FROM A SITE VISITOR: Iam happy that I have found this blog. How can I experience Nirvana? Thank you, Bhadanta

F.: You are welcomed to the site, Bhadanta; however, you are not likely to find here the answer that you either expect or desire.

Begin with this: here, the suggestion to those seeking to know “who (what) they truly are” is to first know all that they are not. If you know all that you are not and then come to know That Which You Are, then you will also know that there is no one to experience anything, including nirvana.

As with the approach used to find who/what You Are by first finding who you are not, so too you must find what nirvana is not before understanding what it is.

Nirvana is NOT the peace that accompanies a “state of mind” that is free of desire and anger, and Nirvana is NOT the “basic, peaceful nature of the human mind.” It is suspected, however, that it is a peaceful mind that you seek.

If you visit the archives on this site, you may come to understand why there is no such thing as a “peaceful mind” and why any “state of mind” is an illusion. Consider:

the brain in that space called “bhadanta” is of the elements; the consciousness which is temporarily manifested via that space is of the Absolute; the “mind,” on the other hand, is of false programming and faulty conditioning.

Parts of the brain store and recall memories and also store learned concepts; however, since a memory is merely a recollection of a past happening that was not perceived accurately at the time, there is no chance for an accurate reminiscence of past happenings in the present.

As far as concepts, all of those are false, so the “mind” is a two-fold repository of falsehoods. A “mind,” filled as it is with false ideas and distortions, and with no ability to recount accurately, cannot be at peace at all. Thus, the book title, THERE’S NO SUCH THING AS “PEACE OF MIND” (There Is Only Peace If You're Out of Your Mind).

Understand that pain is registered via the body but that misery and suffering are registered via the “mind,” so any belief that the “mind” can be at ease is like all beliefs: false. There is no possibility at all of separating (1) the “mind” and (2) misery and suffering. To be in a “state of mind” is to suffer and to be miserable.

Next, Nirvana is NOT a “re-union with a supreme spirit that is attained through a series of deaths and rebirths and reincarnations.”

Why? You will not likely be thrilled to hear this, either, but you cannot be reborn multiple times because you were not even born once. I was not born so I cannot die, and because I was not born and cannot die, I most certainly cannot be born again.

Recently, site visitor “abhiram” noted the confusion that he has witnessed among seekers which results from the fact that various yogas and religions and philosophies and psychology have been mixed together in ways that distort—rather than clarify—the original understanding.

Tomorrow, further clarification will be offered, but you will only return for that if you can move beyond these pointers that probably challenge many of your beliefs and concepts and ideas and if you can set aside any affront that certain religious or philosophical identities might be “experiencing." Please enter the silence of contemplation.
