An Advaita Vedanta philosophy site, focusing on Realization, enlightenment, nisarga yoga, non-duality (nonduality), your original nature, dwelling as your natural state, and the teachings of Maharaj.

FROM A SITE VISITOR: So it seems that you too have experienced pain and suffering because you were lost in the dream. Right?

F.: Of course. What the consciousness speaks of here it knows from (1) “experiencing” the effects of body-mind-personality identification and all that goes with that and from (2) no longer experiencing, the “experiencer” having disappeared. As with that speck of consciousness called “Maharaj,” all seven of the steps to Realization were required to move from identification with an “I” to the no-identity of the Absolute. Prior to Full Realization, “floyd, like Maharaj,” also had his emotional intoxication period, his marriage period, his procreation period, his forest dweller period, his bhajan-worship-religious period, his kindergarten spirituality period, his spiritual period, etc. Then, after years of teaching to a mass audience, both specks shifted to a more direct method of presentation—a method many deemed “too direct” or even “harsh”—and addressed for the most part those at the gunpowder stage, ready for key pointers to explode away all of the remaining concepts in order to be free. Understand, therefore, that I Am Maharaj, and so are You. Now, to continue:

FROM A SITE VISITOR: You witness feelings rise and fall. How long can your feelings last, for example, if you lose a friend? Would the feelings simply rise for a minute, a day, a week, etc.? Where do you draw the line?

F.: Yesterday, this question was asked: Is the cycling between occasion of happiness, offense, unhappiness, processing, happiness, and then more offense now contraindicated?

Of course those who can process more quickly than others will experience less unhappiness or angst or misery or suffering than others. Yet the key pointer is, those processing are still finding it necessary to process, a fact which reveals that they are trapped in varying levels of psychic unhealthiness and instability.

If you are trapped in those levels and thereby also trapped in the cycles of happiness, unhappiness, needing to process, etc., then you are empowering others to have (co-dependently) the ability to determine how you feel, what you think about, what you do or what you avoid doing because of the paralysis of processing.

Such is the stuff of the relative if you are identified with ego-states and egotism which set the stage for your being offended continually throughout the relative existence. Review your pattern. How much energy have you expended in your efforts to support ego-states and images?

How much time has been spent in trying to process as a result of all of the occasions when you thought you had been offended? Would the “lifetime” total amount to seconds or hours or days or weeks or years? Has any other single activity required as much energy?

And all the while, what was involved was nothing more than imaginary identities functioning with a fictional “mind” that generated beliefs about “others’ faults and shortcoming and offensive behaviors.” Those beliefs, fueled by ego, can inspire a “life-long” accumulation of perceived offenses and transgressions and wrongdoings that must be processed. What a tiresome, energy-draining way to move through the manifestation.

What would you conclude about a person if you witnessed him in the desert—wasting energy and time and sacrificing peace—because he was trying to defend a mirage? What would you conclude if you watched him trying to force cars to alter their course and detour around a mirage that he was trying to protect?

How much peace have you forfeited, and how much energy have you spent, in trying to protect a mirage—specifically, your false images? How much energy have you expended in trying to overcome the anger or hurt that is being registered by your “mind” and its assumed personas?

How often do you allow “externals” to control your feelings (or, more accurately, your ego-states’ emotions)? If you are in touch with the inner resource, you can allow that inner guru to guide you away from the illusions of the relative and to the truth of the Absolute.

Then the stability of that natural state will manifest as You abide as THAT Which You Truly Are rather than as that which you are not and as that which can regularly register offense and inspire a constant need to process. Please enter the silence of contemplation.
