FROM A SITE VISITOR: It’s starting to sink in, maybe. i think it was Michael who talked on this site about Maharaj’s warning against the “big teachers” and then you discussed that and then Louise said some things about what didn’t work for her and what did and all along i was rejecting all of that because i do have the big library with all the big names in it. But I kept being drawn back and i’m looking at 15 years of reading all those books and see that i still don’t have what i’ve been looking for. So, i’m making amends to all three of you and going back to some people i spoke to about you and Michael and Louise and admitting there’s a more than average chance that you three might all be pointing out something i needed to hear - something that is valid. Thank you, Karl.

F.: Thx for the e-mail, Karl, but there are no three people here to whom amends can be made—just three specks of consciousness that cannot be offended. Now, to the relevant issues around the topic you’ve raised:

As noted, Maharaj did warn that one way to assure that you will never Realize is to seek out a “big name” teacher. Why? First, that action reinforces your arrogance rather than eliminating ego and egotism (which works to defend a false role.) How? To find out, ask WHO wants to associate only with the big name person?

WHO wants to associate only with the preacher or priest rather than the mere members of a congregation? WHO wants to be “sponsored” only by the big name in an organization? Is the arrogance associated with such a desire not easily seen?

Secondly, the big names are big names because of their mass appeal, but the Advaita Teachings—and especially the direct path, nisarga approach—have never been popular among the masses.

Further, whatever words the big names are saying that appeal to the masses are by default shown to be false, relative-based concepts because those are the only concepts that the masses have always found appealing.

The masses have historically believed in myths and superstitions and lies and nonsense, so the fact that the masses find the big names appealing is evidence that the big names are talking nonsense and are reinforcing and expanding the concept-based and relative-based beliefs of the masses.

Maharaj was never one of the “big name” teachers in India. He never had his own ashram. His audiences seldom numbered more than a few dozen at a time. He did not accumulate a worldwide following or large facilities or a huge bank account; instead, he encouraged de-accumulation.

Those who are trapped in the seeker role and who do not really want to follow a path that leads to the end of all seeking and the end of all identity—including “The Religious One,” “the Spiritual Giant,” “The Super Seeker,” and/or "The Supreme Self," ad infinitum—actually just want to accumulate.

Been there. Done that. When it was Realized that the big name authors that "floyd" was reading had all been exposed to pointers offered by Maharaj, no more time or money was spent with their books. The movement was to that source—specifically to the one that offered a direct path that led to Realization, to As If Living afterwards, and to an all-natural way of moving through the remainder of the manifestation.

Once the movement away from the big names and toward a speck that offered the above took place, then it was soon found that the big names had bastardized the message that Maharaj offered, picking and choosing the parts that could be twisted into the types of relative topics that appeal to the masses, such as “getting power, now” or “improving the (false) self” or "changing yourself for the better" or "being all you can be" or "changing the world."

Those who are similarly accumulating a library of books that are supposedly about non-duality and supposedly about Realization—rather than reading books that actually guide the seeker to Realization—will never Realize; in fact, those actions will guarantee that seekers will never Realize.

When it was seen that all of the reading and accumulating was for naught—and was actually an impediment—the process of tossing out the library happened spontaneously, signaling the shift to a different course.

A visitor who stopped by as that purging was happening asked if he could have the books that were being tossed. His request was refused, triggering an angry response. It was explained, “You have said you want to complete the ‘journey’ to full realization. If I now understand that this library would be as much an impediment to you as it has been to me, why would I present these books to you as if they were gifts while knowing full well that they are obstructions?”

Read a restaurant review, with pictures, about the best meal available in the best restaurant in your area and it will avail you nothing. You must eat the meal provided by a Realized teacher YourSelf; You must chew the food provided by a Realized teacher YourSelf; You must swallow the food provided by a Realized teacher YourSelf;

then You must digest the food provided by a Realized teacher YourSelf, and then only will You have tasted the real rather than having an editor talk about a meal and show you pictures of a meal (some of which will be distorted and will not really show the meal for what it actually is).

Yet what is happening with most is this: they are reading the reviews written by the big names and having the words and pictures whet their appetite, only to find that there are no directions at all for finding the restaurant YourSelf.

And the most bizarre part of all of that is that the readers who only read about the meal and only got a glimpse of pictures of the meal really think—for a time, at least—that they feel full. Yet hunger returns in the absence of Full Realization, so it’s back to more of the big names for more…and more…and more. Accumulate, accumulate, accumulate.

But Maharaj said, "Just as the taste of salt pervades the great ocean and every single drop of sea-water carries the same flavour, so every experience gives me the touch of reality, the ever fresh realisation of my own being. He said, “…the scientific approach is for all. 'Trust-test-taste'.”

Yet the case among the masses was summarized when he said, “You have tasted so many things - all came to naught” and “You cannot imagine the taste of pure water - you can only discover it by abandoning all flavourings.”

The big names provide flavorings, but no substance...meal descriptions, but no recipes. For most seekers, therefore, the recipe they seek will remain forever a secret recipe, and they will never truly be fulfilled. Please enter into the silence of contemplation. (To be continued)

[Please review the list posted Saturday that identifies the basic personality types]

FROM A SITE VISITOR: So do animals have personality? I think my dog definitely does.

F.: Not unlike the planet's too-proud parents, pet owners often assign qualities to the objects of their affection that are more imagined than real. Pets are, of course, domesticated and conditioned, but they have no belief-generated fears and desires and they assume no false identities. They are mindless, so they cannot develop beliefs or concepts or personas. Pets would live naturally—as do all non-domesticated animals—were it not for the influence of humans.

In the wild, various animals display a variety of predictable behavioral patterns, but those are not driven by a “mind” or beliefs. That said, certain animals can be used to provide a clearer understanding of the way that persons function when living under the auspices of personality:

First, as noted yesterday, some animals function in a survivor mode while some display a warrior mode. Some are active and some are passive, and some display behavioral patterns that correspond to persons who have been programmed and are trapped in the thought-word-deed patterns of certain personality types:

The Perfectionist is sometimes compared to the beaver since they are driven to build but, in the process, “dam things up,” just as the rigid Perfectionists do.

The Helper is compared to the supposedly loyal dog. (Some owners think their dogs' tendency to jump about when owners return home and their dogs' desire to lick / “kiss” them is a show of love. In fact, if you witness dogs in the wild, when the mother returns from the hunt, the young also jump about, anticipating that they are about to feed. They will also try to lick the mother in the mouth, but only to make her regurgitate and thereby provide them food. So much for the “love” angle of your dog greeting you and trying to “kiss” you hello.)

Type Three Performers are often compared to peacocks with their strutting; to chameleons with their "what-I-want-today-I-will-not-want-tomorrow" / ever-changing attitudes; and to snakes for their ability to charm but then strike out (viciously and verbally among Type Threes).

Type Fours are often compared to cats, being the loners among humans and often seeming aloof (or displaying the inconsistent tendency to be close sometimes and distant at other times).

Fives are compared to the owl or the fox, what with the Five’s desire to be seen as wise or shrewd and knowledgeable.

Sixes are compared to turtles (wanting protection) or to meerkats…always hypervigilant and always believing that a threat is forever pending.

Sevens are compared to monkeys or hyenas, racing about wildly through life.

Eights are compared to lions and wolverines and wild boars and bulls (as in “bullies”).

Nines are compared to the sloth.

In the case of persons who exhibit the same type behaviors as those animals, the persons are doing so in a most unnatural, subconscious and unconscious way—all because of programming and conditioning and acculturation and domestication.

If one is seeking an understanding of what the relative concept of “powerlessness” really involves, then see the way that personality subconsciously controls every thought and every word and every action among the non-Realized who only think that they have free will and who only think that they are making choices.

While the traits exhibited by the animals above come naturally to those species, the blind behaviors of the non-Realized come most unnaturally. To be driven by subconscious motivators—even when they result in what some believe to be “good” desires—will eventually and most assuredly always lead to misery among the non-Realized.

Want to try to change the world? Try away. Want to try to make everyone love everyone? Try away. Want to be in touch with Reality? Then see that the world is in you....in your "mind." Then see that Love already IS, period.

Thereafter, the no-concept, non-duality, no-identity Reality might be understood. Not only is the idea that all “A’s” should love all B’s” a concept—it is also duality. Not only is it a false notion that the world is "real as perceived" but also the notion that a “bad” world can be made into a “good” world is duality.

Maharaj suggested: “Detach yourself from all that makes your mind restless. Renounce all that disturbs its peace.”

In a different exchange, he offered another pointer that is relevant to this discussion:

Q: All I want to know is how to deal with the world's sorrows.
M: You have created them out of your own desires and fears; you deal with them. All is due to your having forgotten your own being. Having given reality to the picture on the screen, you love its people and suffer for them and seek to save them. It is just not so.

If you would be free of your own sorrows and misery, then abandon all desires about changing the world and about inspiring love. Your wanting to bring impossible change can only lead to misery. Desirelessness is the key to happiness. [You may use the search tool above "Links and Resources" to find detailed discussions on desirelessness.] Desiring to change “the world,” and the people in it, is one of the keys to unhappiness.

So, there is a way to Realize and a way never to Realize. One way is to believe there is a world that needs changing and that you can play a role in bringing about change. Another is to believe that Love has something to do with duality, with a partner or with partners or with the entire earth’s population.

The other ways to Realize or not will be discussed tomorrow. Please enter into the silence of contemplation.

seven hours of satsang with floyd guiding seekers through all seven steps (in their exact order) to Realization. See details at the end of this post.

[Please review the list posted yesterday that identifies the basic personality types]

F.: Each personality type has a basic fear and a basic desire. Fear generates misery, and desires do the same; therefore, personality is the source of misery and suffering. The very wanting /desiring to change “the world” and the very wanting /desiring for all people to love each other—a dualistic concept and a total impossibility—will generate unhappiness.

Yesterday, the personality / change-the-world-link was discussed. Today, the personality / desiring-all-to-love-each-other-link will be discussed. Which types want everyone to love everyone else? WHO (which personality types or ego-states) are failing to see that the notion that “A” should love “B” is subject-object duality? WHO (which personality types or ego-states) have failed to understand that Love Is, period?

Of those basic types listed yesterday, certainly “The Perfectionist” will be subconsciously motivated to want a perfect world where everyone loves everyone else, completely ignoring how many Type Eight sociopaths have disintegrated to the lowest levels of psychic health and can only hate;

completely ignoring the fact that even the majority of individuals who try to love just one person cannot pull that off and sustain their marriage; and completely ignoring the fact that all species have some types with a survivor motive and some types with a warrior motive, resulting in a "built in" source of conflict and disagreement.

So notice the way that among the non-Realized it is personality, not "good" intentions or "good" motives, that drive thought and word and deed:

“The Helper’s” primary motive is to get love. That is why those types “give love” (not altruistically but with a motive to be loved in return).

“The Idealist” is most certainly attached to the notion that “it’s all about love, really.”

“The Fearful One” wants to be loved in order to preempt possible attacks.

“The Peacemaker” wants love and peace to prevail across the globe.

So again, all across the planet, persons are being subconsciously driven to expound upon their dualistic, subject-object beliefs about “love” without the slightest awareness that only the atonement—the at-one-ment, the wisdom to know they are everything—can bring about an understanding of the difference in false (subject-object) love and Real Love.

Notice how often the roots of the Personality Trance or the Ego-Trance are included in the content of many novels and movies:

In THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE, a small computer chip is implanted into the brain of a presidential candidate. The chip allows a group of conspirators to control his actions and even gives them the ability to make him kill.

In the 1983 film BRAINSTORM, the military tries to take control over a new technology that can record and transfer thoughts.

The idea of such mind-control and behavior-control is the basis of THE MATRIX TRILOGY.

And in the STAR TREK franchise, members of the Borg collective are equipped with brain implants which connect them to the Borg "hive mind" and allow them to be manipulated by the Borg Queen.

In all of those cases, the trance is induced by implants. Among the non-Realized masses, the trance-inducing implants include ideas, concepts, beliefs, values, attitudes, and all else associated with the programming and conditioning and acculturation and domestication to which humans are subjected.

The ideas in those novels/movies are not impossible scenarios of science fiction but are the current circumstance of the non-Realized, and if they do not find everything that has been implanted and discard it all, they will never be free; they will, instead, be connected to the universal, dualistic “hive mind” and will suffer the stings thereof.

Furthermore, if freed of the influence of the subconscious motivators called "personality" and if then Realized Fully, You will understand that You cannot change anything but can only witness.

You will understand that You cannot do anything, but can merely witness.

You will understand that You are that which is presently being moved about via a body but that You are not the body, just as you would not be a car merely because you traveled in a car.

You will understand that You can merely witness, and only from the platform of pure witnessing can the relative existence unfold in as sane and peaceful and natural a manner as that which characterizes the natural existence of a deer. Please enter into the silence of contemplation. (To be continued)

seven hours of satsang with floyd guiding seekers through all seven steps (in their exact order) to Realization. See details at the end of this post.

F.: The second pointer from the first post of this series that is to be elaborated upon is this:

“The longer the pure consciousness witnesses personality—which is the driving force among the non-Realized—the clearer it becomes that personality is the bane of the relative existence….”

This business of wanting to change the world and wanting everyone to love everyone else has nothing to do with You—with the Real You, the True Self, the Pure Witness. It has only to do with the fears and the desires that are generated by certain of the basic personality types.

Before the personas are discussed, understand that all fears and all desires are rooted in personality, that all misery and suffering evolves from fears and/or desires, and that all misery and suffering, therefore, is rooted in personality.

Each persona adopted as an identity has an agenda that is hidden and that becomes another of the blockages that prevent the consciousness from seeing clearly. Each persona, functioning as a subconscious motivator, will determine thought, word, and deed.

As a result, persons will believe that they have free will and that they have choice when they actually have neither when being driven by personality.

Review the basic types that exist (but understand that persons will add on hundreds of other false roles throughout the relative existence, such as “The Lover,” “The Spouse,” “The Homeowner,” “The Employee/Employer,” “The American,” “The Indian,” “The Guru,” “The Religious One,” “The Spiritual Giant,” “The Parent,” ad infinitum):

THE BASIC TYPES:
1. The Perfectionist, The Reformer
2. The Helper, The Savior, The Rescuer, The Seeker of Love, The Caretaker
3. The Performer, The Achiever
4. The Idealist, the Romanticist
5. The Knower, The Analyst, The Knowledge Person, The Answer Woman/Man
6. The Fearful One, The Seeker of Security, The Loyalist (that is, loyal to those that are Caregivers)
7. The Escapist, The Adventurer
8. The Controller, The Boss, The Ruthless One (and even The Sociopath sometimes)
9. The Peacemaker, The Lazy One

So consider again this notion that some want everyone to love everyone else and that some want to improve the world. See that both of those desires are rooted in personality:

WHO (which personality types or ego-states) are failing to understand that the world is in them, are failing to see that they are not in the world, and are deluded into thinking that they can change “the world”? WHO (which personality types or ego-states) are so arrogant as to believe that they know how the world needs to change and they can effect such change?

Of those basic types above, certainly The Perfectionist/Reformer will be subconsciously motivated to want a perfect world and to believe that he/she can bring about the necessary changes required to bring that kind of world into fruition.

The Helper / The Savior / The Rescuer will most assuredly believe that she/he can help people to be better and can rescue the world in general, one “good deed” at a time.

The Idealist will have certain romantic but totally unrealistic notions about what the world should look like and might expend energy for years in an effort to bring that vision into fruition (but if they live long enough, they will eventually give up on the idea that people will change and will eventually go into isolation or into the solitude, depending upon the level of psychic health or unhealthiness).

The Fearful One will most assuredly want the world that he/she perceives as being dangerous to change, and that is the basic personality type of 50% of the population of the planet.

The Peacemaker, preferring passivity and avoidance, will desire the same.

So across the globe, persons who are being driven by one (or more) of those types will talk about what they want and what they think about the way things are and about the way things should be; then, many of those will take actions that they think are being taken freely and by choice but that are really actions which are being driven by the thoughts and words and subconscious agenda of a persona (or of several personas).

They will truly—but erroneously—believe that they are choosing such thoughts and words and deeds when, in fact, they are being subconsciously driven by nothing more than personality.

Personality always brings with it what some psychologists call “the personality trance” or “the ego-trance,” and because fewer than ½ of 1% will ever be liberated (that is, freed of the effects of being driven subconsciously by personality), then most will walk about in their sleep, thinking in a trance, talking in a trance, and behaving in a trance.

They will live in a prison while thinking they are free. Because you have undertaken a search and found this site, You need not be trapped in the trance prison for the remainder of the relative existence;

instead, there are some specific options available that can guide You along the “path” to the end of the “journey.” Only there can freedom manifest. Please enter into the silence of contemplation. (To be continued)

seven hours of satsang with floyd guiding seekers through all seven steps (in their exact order) to Realization. See details at the end of this post.

F.: The first post in this series offered two key pointers that will be discussed in more detail:

1. “And WHO erroneously believes that if only the world could be more spiritual or only if people would all become religious people, then 'the world's sorrows, poverty, hatred and wars' could be unabated.”

If that is your belief, know that the persons who invented and used the torture devices known “the Judas Cradle,” “the Inquisitor’s Chair,” “the Heretic’s Fork,” and “the Virgin of Nuremberg” were all self-proclaimed spiritual and religious people.

2. “The longer the pure consciousness witnesses personality—which is the driving force among the non-Realized—the clearer it becomes that personality is the bane of the relative existence….”

[#1 will be discussed today and then #2 will be explained later in the series]

The seven steps from identification with the false “I” to an understanding of the Absolute and to abidance as the natural state include a religious and/or spiritual step. The step cannot be omitted, but it can be mistaken for the “destination”…for the “end place on the journey.”

Ironically, that necessary step is also a detrimental step, especially when it is not transitioned. When the tibia and the fibula in the right leg were broken completely in two during an accident, along with several other bones throughout the body, the actions of several surgeons and the hospital staff caused as much damage as the original accident.

Yet all of their actions were required, though they were performed with equal degrees of finesse and ineptness. So it is with those who operate within the religious and spiritual arena and who suggest that their practices and pronouncements provide the ultimate answers and the ultimate awareness that so many are seeking.

Therefore, for those who think that the world needs to change and that spiritual and/or religious persons are the ones who should be in charge of that task, look at the record:

It was religious people who thought themselves to be very spiritual who invaded what they egocentrically called “The New World” and who used the concept of “Manifest Destiny” as their justification for killing 150,000,000 people in order to establish a godly, Christian nation.

It was religious people who thought themselves to be very spiritual who began the Spanish Inquisition to ferret out non-Christians via use of the instruments of torture that they invented.

It was religious people who thought themselves to be very spiritual who began a systematic process of trying to kill all of the Jews on the planet.

It was religious people who thought themselves to be very spiritual who carried out the attack on the Twin Towers in New York City on 9/11.

It was religious people who thought themselves to be very spiritual who used that attack as an excuse to begin a “shock and awe” war with a nation that had nothing to do with that attack and who killed and/or displaced millions of persons who had nothing to do with that attack.

Is all of the misery generated by the members of such groups now history? Are the examples only available on a national or international level? What of the minister in the church near this house who has displayed on the sign in front of his building this message during the current drought / heat wave: “If you think it’s hot here, just keep on sinning and see what temperatures await you for eternity.”

As the Advaitin teachings in regards to programming and conditioning show, if you want to mess people up now, torture them physically; if you want to mess them up for life, torture them mentally and emotionally.

If such is the goal, carry a child to that man and let him program into the child a belief in the dreamed up concept of an eternity in flames. No, the examples of such abuse and distortion and misery-generating teachings and actions are not relegated to the past but are happening in the present.

In fact, it has been religious people who thought themselves to be very spiritual who have historically caused more “sorrows, poverty, hatred and wars” on the planet than any other group.

Is it not possible that their history, as well as the current goals and practices of the members of all three of the dominant sky cults, must unequivocally preclude them from being the ones placed in charge of “changing the world and making it better”?

Whether persons are motivated by what they took to be their “former, bad personas” or by what they take to be their “new, good personas,” the fact is that they are being driven by illusions that have such self-serving agendas that a “take-no-prisoners” mentality emerges when they set about their task of “changing the world.”

If “the big names” in religious or spiritual or self-improvement movements in the past were not able to change the world for the better; and if “the big names” in religious or spiritual or self-improvement movements in the present are not changing the world for the better;

and if none of the words that have been read by trillions and that are now being read or heard by billions are leading people along “the path” to Realization (since those big name speakers and writers do not know the steps and cannot show the clear-cut steps required for completion of the “journey”);

then those who would encourage you to fixate at the third step of seven steps on the "path"—namely, religious or spiritual persons—will likewise never reveal for you the remainder of the steps required for completion of the entire “journey.”

Thus, it should be seen why the efforts of the seeking masses have availed them nothing and why Maharaj’s estimate of the small number of persons who might ever realize translates to about ½ of 1% of the population of the planet at any given time.

That need not be the case if seekers would but abandon their attachment to their newly-assumed “good roles”; if they would but see that the religious or spiritual roles they have assumed will—as is the case with all false roles—merely generate more false beliefs and ideas and concepts;

if they would but shift the focal point of their search away from those who talk about enlightenment and Realization; and if they would instead follow the pointers offered by the few guides that are illuminating the exact “path” to Realization and that are guiding seekers through the exact steps on the exact “path.”

It is only by following those exact steps that the “going back in reverse along the same path by which the coming in occurred" can ever happen.

Complete the "journey" and then "the world" that one would change will not just change but will dissolve away entirely instead. Complete the "journey" and an understanding of the difference in false, subject-object "love" as opposed to Real Love will also manifest. Please enter into the silence of contemplation. (To be continued)

“The Advaitin Retreat / Four-Day Satsang with floyd” in order to be guided through all of the steps to Full Realization but who cannot do so for time or cost considerations:

Andy Gugar had attended some 10-12 hours of satsang with Floyd and determined at some point that the clear-cut, seven-step path to Realization as presented during the four-day retreats should be accessible to all that might be interested.

As a result of Andy’s vision and his willingness to pay for the necessary recording equipment, the entire retreat is now available via DVD’s or via a downloadable computer file version.

The downloadable file version is available to all and eliminates the expensive shipping costs, especially for international seekers. Currently, editing and production and duplication costs being as they are, only 25 sets of the DVD version are available.

Also as a result of Andy’s support, the first 25 DVD sets ordered will receive a complimentary copy of the “Spirit Journey to Your True Self” CD without charge.

F.: Recently, several visitors have asked why there is not a greater effort on this site to inspire everyone to love everyone else and why there is not a greater emphasis on "service" and "helping others" and on "making the world a better place."

To those who think that their “purpose” is to try to change the world for the better and who cling to an idealized view of a "world" in which everyone loves everyone else, consider the pointers offered by M. in this exchange:

Questioner: Every morning I pick up the newspaper and read with dismay that the world's sorrows—poverty, hatred and wars—continue unabated. My questions are concerning the fact of sorrow, the cause, the remedy. Don't brush me off saying that it is Buddhism! Don't label me. Your insistence on causelessness removes all hope of the world ever changing.

Maharaj: You are confused, because you believe that you are in the world, not the world in you. Who came first...you or your parents? You imagine that you were born at a certain time and place, that you have a father and a mother, a body and a name. This is your sin and your calamity! Surely you can change your world if you work at it. By all means, work. Who stops you? I have never discouraged you. Causes or no causes, you have made this world and you can change it.

Q:
A causeless world is entirely beyond my control.

M: On the contrary, a world of which you are the only source and ground is fully within your power to change.

Q:
All I want to know is how to deal with the world's sorrows.

M: You have created them out of your own desires and fears. You deal with them. All is due to your having forgotten your own being. Having given reality to the picture on the screen, you love its people and suffer for them and seek to save them. It is just not so.

And later:

M.: You cannot change the course of events, but you can change your attitude, and what really matters is the attitude and not the bare event. The world is the abode of desires and fears. You cannot find peace in it. For peace you must go beyond the world.

So, first, to the desire that everyone love everyone else: to think there is any possibility that all “A’s” can love all “B’s” and vice-versa is duality. Real Love IS; subject-object love is not real, based in duality as it is.

Because there is no separation into “A’s” and “B’s,” then there can be no case in which any “A” can love “B.” It can simply be understood that there are no “A’s” and “B’s” and that Real Love simply IS. Love is, but it is known only when the Oneness is understood.

Next, if you have a notion or belief that you can change the world, you are ignoring one fact pointed to by Maharaj in the quote above that, namely, you are not in the world but that the world is in you—in your “mind”—instead. Furthermore, that belief will generate only misery.

Since all misery is based in desire and or fear (both of which can only be perceived when one or more personas are assumed), the very wanting / desiring to change the world will be a source of misery among those who want / desire to bring about such change.

To confess such a goal is to admit that you cannot be satisfied with things the way they are and that in order for you to finally relax and take it easy is dependent upon "an entire world" changing.

To tie a sense of fulfillment or happiness to an impossible dream is to fail to recognize a dream as a dream and to recognize the impossible as being impossible. Why not visit a pair of rams that are each intent upon bashing the other's brain and yell, "Fellows, stop! Why can't we just all get along?" Why not visit a sociopath and ask, "How about just loving everybody instead of behaving the way you're behaving?"

More revealing, though, is what is implied by one wanting to change the world. What level of arrogance and egotism are evidenced by one who wants to change the world, the very notion itself revealing the fact that you think you know what the world needs, that you know how it should be, and that you know exactly who should change and in what ways in order for each to be “improved” and thereby eventually “improve the world”?

The longer the pure consciousness witnesses personality—which is the driving force among the non-Realized—the clearer it becomes that personality is the bane of the relative existence and that all of the beliefs above about "love" and "changing the world" are rooted in nothing more than personality and the egotism that tries to support personality.

Personality will make persons who have assumed a religious or spiritual persona/identity egotistically believe that they can successfully treat the sociopaths of the world who are generating “sorrows, poverty, hatred and wars” even though trained professionals have almost no history of success at all in their efforts to treat persons with the Psychopath/Sociopath Personality Disorder.

It becomes clearer—the longer that the relative results of personality are witnessed—that only personality can generate a desire or fear; that only personality can set the stage for the triggering of the use of ego-defense mechanisms that manifests alongside every ego-state that is assumed as an identity;

that all misery and suffering is rooted in personality; and that the basic personality types which drive persons are the masks that blind persons and that bind them and that strip away all ability to choose by determining every word that the non-Realized speak, every thought that the non-Realized use their fiction-filled “minds” to think, and every deed that the non-Realized "do."

So find WHO wants to reform, WHO wants to save and rescue, WHO thinks he/she knows things that everyone should know, WHO wants to bring about their idealized views, WHO wants there to only be "love" in order to feel more secure in what is perceived to be “a dangerous world,” WHO would avoid all pain, WHO would control others and lead them to change, and/or WHO would be known as the one who finally brought "peace to the world."

And find WHO erroneously believes that if only the world could be more spiritual, or if only people would all become religious, then “the world's sorrows, poverty, hatred and wars” would end.

If that is your belief, know that the persons who invented and used the torture devices known “the Judas Cradle,” “the Inquisitor’s Chair,” “the Heretic’s Fork,” and “the Virgin of Nuremberg” were all self-proclaimed spiritual and religious people; yet, understand this:

It is impossible to try to “change my mind” or to change the mind of any Realized person since I do not have a mind and since no other Realized person has a mind—it having been realized that “the mind” and its content was fictional, a conglomeration of illusions;

likewise, it is also impossible to try to change the mind of non-Realized persons since they do not have a “mind” either, but they believe they do and they do most assuredly love the concepts and beliefs and learned ignorance and ideas that have been accumulated in that part of the brain that is called “the mind.”

If you want reform, therefore, re-form the perceptions you have about who/what you are; if you want change, cast aside your own misperceptions; if you want to bring about peace, bring it about in the only place possible (namely within, not without) and via the only means possible (namely, Full Realization and abidance as the natural state, not by changing others or trying to change an illusory "world").

Would-be physician, heal thyself. How? By reading a thousand books about Realization or Enlightenment or Liberation? No.

It can only happen by using the map provided by a Realized teacher who knows the steps on the “path” in their exact order and who can guide You through the steps on the “path” in the exact order. All else is diversionary nonsense for any seekers who would truly complete the "journey." Please enter into the silence of contemplation. (To be continued)

F.: First, this: at the beginning of the month, visitors to the site were told that Louise Sterling would assume the task of offering daily postings, and reference was made to “her skill at placing into words the pointers that point toward the Truth that cannot be stated.” It was noted that “what she shares will strike a chord and will resonate within” because “she understands fully the Wisdom of Noneness and the Real Love of Oneness.”

The content of Your e-mails reveal that You found all of that to be the case and that you would hear that speck of consciousness speak more often. She will enjoy a well-deserved break, but she will be offering additional postings on occasion.

If you are new to the site and missed her series during the first half of September 2009, you are invited to go to the archives and read those postings. It is as “spot on” as any series of Advaitin pointers that you will ever find. Thank you, Louise.

De-accumulation vs. wanting more space

Yesterday, Louise referenced “a society that reveres accumulation.” That results in the ultimate sickness that indicates the need for a heavy dose of the Ultimate Medicine. Today, you are invited to measure the degree to which you are accumulating, the amount of space that you are occupying, the size of your “footprint,” or the size of the ego that demands more and more of everything, including more space.

What is at the core of that desire for space? A call to arms was offered by a man called “Hitler” who tapped into the Aryans’ historical desire for Lebensraum (“living space”)—a misnomer to describe 25,000 years of taking from others. The Anglo-Saxon response to Hitler's call resulted in a war that eliminated over 55,000,000 persons from the planet.

In the U.S., there are some states where the goal is to amass huge estates, to acquire sprawling ranches where only a few people occupy thousands of acres of land, and to brag about being the biggest and the best. Accumulation is “revered.”

This site offers pointers via the nisarga yoga which invite persons to Realize and to function in a spontaneous and natural manner rather than trying to live in a calculated and unnatural/supernatural manner. Accumulation results when programming and conditioning inspire persons to calculate and to “revere accumulation” and thereby live unnaturally and/or supernaturally.

It has been discussed in the past that the “free-ranging” awareness-energy, when manifested as conscious energy into a confined space such as a plant or a bird or a human, is a most unnatural happening. There is as, a result, an often-subconscious longing to return to a circumstance that is limitless and boundless.

To that end, Louise invited You in yesterday’s post to “…eliminate all that is personal or that creates a fixed and rigid sense of a bound personal self” so that even as the manifestation continues, the pure consciousness can be “non-attached” and not feel as if it is bound at all.

The longing to be free is natural, but the source of the longing is misunderstood by the non-Realized. The notion that accumulation of space can provide a sense of freedom is a fallacy, and the notion that one is entitled to more space than others is a product of ego and ego's always accompanying defender—egotism.

Recently in an osteria in Firenze, a seat was taken on a backless stool that was about 14” square and at a table that was just shy of being 2’ square. There were ten such table-stool arrangements in a small space which—in the U.S.—would have only had four tables that were double or triple that size and where the notion of suggesting that patrons should sit on a backless stool would be unheard of.

At the next table, which was only inches away, sat two people who would soon introduce themselves as Giorgia and Stafano. They had watched as two different couples—all clearly from the U.S.—came in at different times over a period of a few minutes and began rearranging the furniture, pushing together two tables for two people in order to have more space.

Everyone already seated was exposed to the over-sized noise-footprint of their tirades when those wanting more space all stormed away in a huff after management made clear that they could not commandeer double the space that was offered to everyone else. Yet that is obviously their modus operandi at home and was the modus operandi they were trying to follow abroad.

Giorgia, after a time, leaned over and asked, “Are you also from the U.S.?” When answered in the affirmative, she asked, “Do you find these accommodations acceptable?” When the reply was that “the accommodations are completely acceptable,” she smiled and introduced herself and her companion Stafano.

A delightful exchange marked the remainder of the meal shared with them in that comfortable, dopo-Americano-interruptus setting. As self-ish, non-Realized persons/personas move through the relative existence, they demand more and more but enjoy less and less, even as they “succeed” at their efforts to take and to take over and to accumulate.

They want more of this and more of that (including many seekers who want “more knowledge” and who desire to be "more spiritual"). Many in ego want more space. They want to make more noise. They want more attention. They want more things. More and more and more. Accumulation, accumulation, accumulation. Post-Realization, all of that ends because Realization is always accompanied with—or followed by—de-accumulation.

Short of Full Realization, persons will never understand that if they were to respond to the invitation offered yesterday by Louise to “return to the Natural State,” there would be no personas remaining that are trying to satisfy the longing of the consciousness for what she accurately described in its former, natural state as being “form-less, limit-less, attribute-less and unfathomable.”

The questions, therefore, are, “How free do you want to be?” and “What size footprint do you desire to make?” and “How much relative space do you think you are entitled to?” and “Why would you settle for any finite space (no matter how grand its physical dimensions) when you have available the infinite space beyond?”

The ego wants excess…there is never "enough" to generate a sense of satisfaction or contentment or completion or wholeness. The Realized want nothing, desire nothing, and function within the peace-providing wisdom of the nothingness…of understanding.

The Realized understand that the term “nothing” is the closest pointer available to reference accurately “what they are/are not.” Such is the case when the wisdom on the Noneness manifests alongside the understanding of the Oneness. Please enter into the silence of contemplation.

Now available for those who would attend
“The Advaitin Retreat / Four-Day Satsang with floyd” but cannot do so for time or cost considerations:

The 4-Disk Video (DVD) Set, and the same retreat also available as a downloadable file, provide an entire seven-hour retreat / series of satsang sessions showing three seekers being guided through all seven steps by Floyd and can provide viewers with an “experiential,” step-by-step series of satsang meetings that will move the viewers from

identification with the I
to
abidance as the Absolute
and then to
abidance as That Which Is beyond

Some seekers are already using the computer file version and the DVD sets for meetings in groups in homes, playing the retreat, pausing for discussion, etc.
