An Advaita forum focusing on Realisation, enlightenment, non-duality, Real Love, peace, freedom, Your original nature, abiding naturally, the Oneness, the Nothingness, and Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj.
Here, there is nothing that is believed, so there is no one here who wants you to believe anything, either. Here, the invitation is to be free of all that you have been programmed, conditioned, acculturated, and domesticated to believe so that you can be free, period.
F.: At the core of the Advaita Teachings is the understanding that Truth can be known but cannot be stated; thus, whatever is stated is not the Truth.
To know Truth, therefore, a no-statement, no-noise, no-talking, no-names, no-labels state is required; to know the false—even when it is delivered as “the gospel truth”—requires statements, noise, talking, naming, and labeling.
Maharaj: “Only in silence and in darkness can it [the Real] be heard and seen” and “The real is experienced in silence.”
The truth comes via the silence and the light comes via the darkness. So why should the words of a teacher be heeded? In fact, they should not. What is to be heeded are the pointers that are offered when the consciousness speaks, and the consciousness never speaks more silently than via the written form of the speaking consciousness.
That can include a book by which the consciousness speaks, a weblog, a letter, an e-mail, etc. You need not conclude that Realization cannot happen if you cannot sit at the feet of the one that you were sure was “the teacher for you” but that took mahasamadhi before you could sit at those feet.
Was some speaking and hearing required up front, here? Yes, so seekers come here for retreats. In the end, however, the process by which that speck called "floyd" moved from “liberation” to “enlightenment” to “Full Realization” happened thusly:
Liberation happened via one-on-one engagement with a teacher and enlightenment was advanced in the same format. Full Realization, though, came when alone, in the silence, after the inner guru provided a vision that facilitated an understanding of that which (a) was being spoken by the pure consciousness and which (b) happened to be speaking via a written format and which (c) made clear the exact manner in which the totality functions.
At that point, the use of any and all labels—including “spiritual labels”—came to an end; natural functioning became the rule rather than the exception; and with that natural manner of abidance came the stillness and silence;
that is, the preponderance of stillness led to the absence of any perceived need to “do” or “move” or “go” or “zoom” and the preponderance of silence ended the perceived need to “speak” or talk or generate noise (the latter often happening as a result among the non-Realized of trying to drown out the chatter of the “mind”).
Once Fully Realized, then words all but disappeared, the seeker disappeared, all things holy or religious or spiritual or personal disappeared, the mind disappeared, and any and all identity disappeared. After that, the beingness has happened spontaneously because the Reality which is beyond being and even non-being was overlaid onto the beingness.
Maharaj: That in which consciousness happens, the universal consciousness or mind, we call the ether of consciousness. All the objects of consciousness form the universe. What is beyond both, supporting both, is the supreme state, a state of utter stillness and silence. Whoever goes there, disappears. It is unreachable by words or mind. You may call it God, or Parabrahman, or Supreme Reality, but these are names given by the mind. It is the nameless, contentless, effortless and spontaneous state, beyond being and not being.
Reality is still and silent.
Reality is a "no-who" state.
Reality cannot be reached with words or the "mind."
"God," "Parabrahman," and "Supreme Reality" are names that have been dreamed up by fiction-filled "minds."
That which is beyond being and non-being is most surely beyond "doing" and "do-ers" and "The Talker" and "The Speaker" and "The Noise-Maker."
Please enter the silence of contemplation. (To be continued)
