"After three surgeries from three different doctors with three different explanations about why I have so much pain in my hands, I've become very angry with God at this point. All my life, He has intervened and brought me financial success and has answered my prayers for healing, but now it's not happening and I'm really furious with God right now. My priest said it's OK, that God is big enough to handle my anger until I get over it, but I don't want to get over it. I'm pissed."
And I questioned what I was hearing, like, you've become very old - maybe your earlier prayers for healing weren't answered either -- maybe you just bounced back better from illness when you were young. Or maybe God did not make you wealthy (and make other people poor? I saw the duality!) Or maybe there were genetic factors that made you healthy and helped make you a success in business. Am I finally on the right track? Thanx for answering and thanx the site!

VISITOR: I take from what you said today [received 13 May 2012] that only about 1/2 of 1% of Earth's seven billion people have "an accurate BS detector." I am starting to see why I've had so much trouble -- I've never been able to "wrap my head around" the point that I should question everything and see that it might all be nonsense (or "BS"). Some things? Sure. All things? No. But that is changing. Yesterday, I heard a woman say this to my wife:
"After three surgeries from three different doctors with three different explanations about why I have so much pain in my hands, I've become very angry with God at this point. All my life, He has intervened and brought me financial success and has answered my prayers for healing, but now it's not happening and I'm really furious with God right now. F.: [Continued from yesterday] Understand that if You are abiding as Your Original Nature, it is clear that there is no "inner vs. outer." As with Awareness - which makes up that field of specialized energy with the potential to be conscious of and also aware of - there is neither inner nor outer.
Nor is there anyone that can want control or be addicted to control; nor is there anyone who can want power or who can believe in power or in a Power or Powers; nor is there anyone who can generate chaos as a result of trying to control or trying to sustain ego-states that believe in power or a Power of Powers.
The only "inner" that non-dualists speak of is the "inner guru." There is, once the conscious-energy manifests within a space or form that can be termed a body-cum-consciousness, the consciousness within, the inner consciousness.
If the consciousness is blocked from seeing and perceiving clearly and accurately and truthfully, then persons have no power to choose or not choose anything because all will be driven and determined by the hidden agendas of personalities.
(While "power" and "powerless" are both concepts, what could be deemed more powerless than to be abiding under the influence of conditions that lead persons to believe that they are consciously choosing their words and actions when, in actuality, their thoughts and words and deeds are being determined by unconscious factors?)
If pure (that is, if the consciousness is not blocked by programming and conditioning and domestication and acculturation and brainwashing) then that pure consciousness can function as an internal locus of understanding, reason, rationality, logic, sensibility, sanity, and no-mind wisdom.
Here's "the take" that Bob R. shared yesterday after reading Monday's post:
Hello My Friend,
A smile came when absorbing the reference to an "inner and / or outer locus of control" in light of the knowing that has come (a knowing that is not of the cognitive variety) which resulted in there no longer being a distinction between "inner" or "outer," let alone the concept of control (which would require a "who," a "what," a when, a how, etc.)
It is now understood that there are no shortcuts to this understanding which includes seeing clearly and understanding the moment-to-moment experiencing of that which is flowing through this plant body and through all manifested reality and beyond.
Now it is seen that there is no separation between the river, the river banks, or the water conditions; it is seen that those are all just variations on a theme of flowing with and of.
Thanks for being the river guide that encouraged taking off the life jacket (that is, the strait jacket) of identification, allowing the opportunity to slip out of the boat to become one with the river. Bob
When the temporarily-manifested inner consciousness is unblocked, then one is indeed at one with all. The duality of inner and outer dissolves.
If that does not happen, via Realization, then persons will continue to believe in - and attach to and be dependent on - what they take to be an outer locus of control. In the process, they will give credit for their "successes" to their conceptualized locus of control - their god or God or gods and goddesses. That assignment of credit to an external locus of control most often becomes an act of false humility which "believers" will present as evidence of their "having been blessed."
Also egotistically, that evidence of their "having been blessed" is actually being presented as evidence of how "good" they have been and of how "good" they are. The implied message is that "if you are like me, as good as me, act as I act, and have faith of the same quality and in the same quantity as my faith, then you will be able to tap into the power of that outer locus of control and make your life blessed and get all you want as well.
[The real belief behind all that, though, is this: "But I know you're not going to do that, and I know that you're not going to be as good as I am, so you're not going to have the same level of access that I have to My External Locus of Control - a.k.a., "My God" or "My Extensive Set of Gods and Goddesses"; I will, nevertheless, continue to set the example so that you might try to follow my lead and then maybe, someday, have a chance at having the same levels of power that I have access to."]
But what did Maharaj say about the illusion of "power"?
Maharaj: "It serves [You] to break down mental pride. We must realise how ... powerless we are. As long as we delude ourselves by what we imagine ourselves to be, to know, to have, to do, we are in a sad plight indeed. Only in complete self-negation is there a chance to discover Our Real Being."
Moreover, this "beingness" referred to is only Real when it is temporarily manifested within a space or form, but the Realized sages have long agreed with Krishna's pointer that That Which We Are, that That Which Is Real - is beyond both beingness and non-beingness.
Therefore, because beingness is only Real when it is temporarily manifested within a space or form, then there is no Real Being Beyond ... no Supreme Beingness ... no Supreme Being ... and, thus, no external locus of control.
As further evidence of that fact, it is known that all is energy - matter; it is known that energy - matter can neither be created nor destroyed; it is known that energy - matter has been forever; it is known that energy - matter will be forever.
Because energy - matter has been forever, obviously it was not created. If That Which All Is was not created, then there is no "Creator" ... no Supreme Beingness ... no Supreme Being ... and, thus, no external locus of any kind, including an external locus of control.
It was shown earlier that, when a dreamed-up locus of external control is believed in, then delusion and arrogance will follow. It was shown earlier that, when a dreamed-up locus of external control is believed in and called on to provide something or to fulfill a desire or to alleviate a fear or to provide "success" or to provide to "The Believer" the illusion of power - and when those things seemingly happen to happen - then all is well and good with the "relationship" between the persona-assuming "Believer" and "The Believer's" supposed external locus of control.
But what happens when desires and wishes are not fulfilled by one's external locus of control? When fears are not alleviated by one's external locus of control? When "success" is desired but does not come from one's external locus of control ... or seems to come but then is not protected by one's external locus of control and is therefore "lost"? When pain comes but the external locus of control no longer makes it go away? When suffering and misery come but the external locus of control does not make it go away? That tomorrow.
Nor is there anyone that can want control or be addicted to control; nor is there anyone who can want power or who can believe in power or in a Power or Powers; nor is there anyone who can generate chaos as a result of trying to control or trying to sustain ego-states that believe in power or a Power of Powers.

(QUOTATIONS AND POINTERS dealing with NON-DUALITY, ADVAITA, NISARGA YOGA and more)
(QUOTATIONS AND POINTERS dealing with NON-DUALITY, ADVAITA, NISARGA YOGA and more)
(Note: Contrary to what you might read, every quote in this book is identified by its author or speaker)The work contains quotations and pointers not only from scores of non-duality books and talks but also offers non-duality pointers that have appeared in works of non-fiction, fiction, classic literature, and movies.
The book include the following:
The offering of non-duality quotations and pointers by category and subject matter but from Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj exclusively.
Quotations and pointers from Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj that discuss nisarga yoga and nisarga living.
Quotations that other seekers / readers have indicated that they found to be significant.
A section with an arrangement of non-duality quotations and pointers by category and subject matter. The rationale: when offering non-duality quotations, some collections provide key pointers that are offered in no particular order, but here the approach is to group pointers according to subject matter so that a seeker dealing with "body identification issues" can find quotations addressing body identity while a seeker dealing with "being free of the influence of the mind" can find quotations and pointers that offer information on that topic. Other subjects in this part of the book include personality, the child ignorance or no-knowing stage, the two types of witnessing, the Absolute, the Void or the Nothingness, and many more.
Miscellaneous non-duality quotations and pointers which are relevant to Advaitins and that have been offered by philosophers and sages and seers of truth from various periods, including Plato, St. Francis of Assisi, Desiderius Erasmus, Albert Einstein, George Bernard Shaw, Richard E. Lingenfelter; Robert Burton, Daniel H. Boorstin, Gary Zukav, E. Bayda, Mark Twain, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, Walt Whitman, Brad Thor, Mohandas "Mahatma" Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Jr.; Nelson Mandela, Immanuel Kant, Bruce Lipton, Clive Cussler, Ivan Petrovich Pavlov, Lewis Thomas, Max Planck, Heinrich Hertz; the bands "Pink Floyd" and "The Beatles"; and others.
Non-duality pointers that have appeared in the non-fiction writings of Ralph Klein and in the works of such scientists as Barbara McClintock, Erwin Schrodinger, Fritjof Capra, Niels Bohr, David Bohm, Neil deGrasse Tyson. Also, there are selections from the works of Marvin Kaye, S.H. Sharp, Paul Krassner, Ken Kesey, Russell Brand, G.I. Gurdjieff; and a variety of examples of the non-duality messages that are contained in the body of Native American wisdom as well as non-duality pointers that can be found in the book "ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS" (a.k.a., "the A.A. Big Book").
An offering of non-duality messages that have appeared in the fictional works of Jack Kerouac, Michael Connelly, Mary Shelley, Victor Hugo, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Robert Lewis Stevenson, Abraham "Bram" Stoker and others as well as quotations with the non-duality message as offered in film with a list of over thirty movies that are based in non-duality, including The Matrix (Part One), The 13th Floor, Inception, The Truman Show, Dark City, Existenz, Avatar, and many more.
