A DAILY CONSIDERATION FOR YOU
F.: Yesterday this was offered:
And the roles of A "Husband" and "Wife" and "Employee" and "Employer" and "Christian" and "Jew" and "Hindu" and "Muslim Jihadists" and "Christian Warrior" and "Shia" and "Sunni" and "Super Child" and "Super Parent" and every other role that persons play are as bogus as being the child of a barren woman (or a virgin woman as well).
Again, all roles will generate as misery and suffering eventually, no matter how much pleasure they seem to provide early on.
Here, examples of "pointers in action" are always offered, so consider the evidence of the pointers above as they played out in real time in Iraq recently as three truck drivers were slain because they were found to be were members of "the wrong religion" by some self-proclaimed "Sunni jihadists." Various media shared this account recently of the murders that happen a few months ago:
"A video emerged earlier this week depicting the July 2 execution of three Syrian truck drivers on a highway in western Iraq. In the footage, which was first posted on YouTube on August 25, three trucks were stopped at a road block so that the Sunnis could interrogate the three drivers about their religious background.
"Question were asked about their prayer habits and methods, and their answers proved that they were not Sunnis but were practicing "Alawites," that is, members of a mystical branch of Shiite Islam - not Sunni Islam.
"At that point, the three drivers were led to the side of the road, forced to knell, and were executed at close range. After they were dead, each body was shot another dozen times as the executioners shouted, 'Allahu Akbar' ('God is Great' or, more literally, "God is Greater' ... implying 'than anything else')."
This provides the opportunity for the next pointer: yes, all roles will generate misery and suffering eventually, no matter how much pleasure they seem to provide early on; however, as roles are being played, sometimes the duality involved will mean that one party's pleasure might continue for a time at the expense of the other party / parties involved.
For example, consider how many marriages have one partner who is supposedly "content" with the arrangement while the other role player in the "relationship" (which is a totally dualistic concept in itself) is miserable.
Consider other examples of the pleasure-pain continuum:
1. In the U.S. (according to UNICEF), over 2000 children are killed annually in their own homes. Add to that number the others killed in gang-related violence or in random acts of violence. Add in the others who die because their parents' religious beliefs demand that only prayer can be used to bring about healing and the belief that turning to any outside medical care for healing is "evidence of a lack of faith."
Then, contrast how much relative pleasure most parents felt when their child was "born" with how much relative misery came eventually to family or friends when the child died.
2. Consider the misery when "The Employee" role ends because "The Employer" terminated "The Employee's" employment.
3. Recall videos showing Sunnis screaming at the top of their lungs in agony when mourning the death of one of their own who was killed by Shia attackers who shouted "Allahu Akbar!"; then recall videos showing Shias screaming at the top of their lungs in agony when mourning the death of one of their own who was killed by Sunni attackers who shouted "Allahu Akbar!"
When a false identity comes to an end because the co-dependent, counterpart player in any dualistic pairing is no longer available to play the role, misery comes.
But behind it all is this:
Role assignment and / or assumption is at the root of what Maharaj identified as the blight of humanity: "ignorance, stupidity, and insanity." And those do not make "ignorant or stupid or insane persons" but they do constantly generate ignorant or stupid or insane actions all day long, every day, all around the globe.

A DAILY CONSIDERATION FOR YOU
F.: Yesterday this was offered:
Yes, Maharaj said that for some it is enough to understand who you are not. Agreed. But if both the beingness and the non-beingness are not understood, then the "No-Longer-'This'-Or-'That' Roles" will generate as much suffering as the false roles that are assumed as identities.
Per the Second Law of Thermodynamics, all that comes together will eventually come apart. That applies to those involved in the variety of games that are played when persons assume roles which all require a co-dependent, counterpart partner whose presence is required for illusory roles to continue to be taken as real and for those assuming illusory roles as identities to continue to play their games.
A "Husband" player must be present for the role of "Wife" to be assumed and played, and vice-versa.
An "Employee" role player must be present for the role of "Employer" to be assumed and played, and vice-versa.
A "Christian or Jewish or Hindu" role player must be present for the role of "Muslim Jihadist" to be assumed and played, and the role of "Muslim Jihadists" must be played for "Christian Warrior" role players to take their rifles that are engraved with Biblical scriptures into battle to slay the "Muslim Jihadists" role players.
A "Shia" role player must be present for the oppositional role of "Sunni" to be assumed and played, and vice-versa.
A "Super Child" role player must be present for the role of "Super Parent" to be assumed and played, and vice-versa.
Ad infinitum.
And the roles of A "Husband" and "Wife" and "Employee" and "Employer" and "Christian" and "Jew" and "Hindu" and "Muslim Jihadist" and "Christian Warrior" and "Shia" and "Sunni" and "Super Child" and "Super Parent" and every other role that persons play are as bogus as being the child of a barren woman (or of a virgin woman as well).

Maharaj made clear that whatever gives you pleasure will eventually give you pain, and whatever gives you the most pleasure will eventually give you the most pain.
He also said: "Do not try to make yourself happy; rather, question your very search for happiness. It is because you are not happy that you want to be happy. Find out why you are unhappy. Because you are not happy you seek happiness in pleasure; pleasure brings in pain and therefore you call it worldly; you then long for some other pleasure, without pain, which you call divine. In reality, pleasure is but a respite from pain."

A DAILY CONSIDERATION FOR YOU
F.: Yesterday this was offered: "Being this or that" is a lie; "being this or that at one point but no longer being this or that now" is a lie as well.
Consider the confusion around being and non-being. It would be like someone saying this: "I thought in the past that I was a rock, but now that I am seeing clearly I understand that I am a not-rock." No. No you're not. Or it would be like someone saying this: "At one point, I was so confused that I thought I could be the child of a barren woman, but now that I am wise, I see that I am the 'non-child' of a barren woman."
For years, Christ believed the tale his mother told in order to escape stoning, namely that he was the "son of God"; however, after he was introduced to the non-dual teachings, he declared, "I am the son on [a] man." (Forget all of the lofty interpretations about what the term "The Son of Man" might mean. Just more nonsense.)
More significantly, what he did not say was, "I am the Not-Son of God."
It is impossible to "no-longer-be-now" what one never was; it is impossible to "no-longer-be" what one never was to start with. A man completing a form for an insurance policy years ago asked, "Married, single, divorced or widowed?" The reply: "No."
Alexander Pope warned that "a little learning is a dangerous thing." Those following jnana yoga would agree. Here, the pointer is this: "To complete a little of the seven-step path to Realization is a dangerous thing.
To reach the third of seven steps and fixate at the step where religious and spiritual roles are assumed as actual identities is a most dangerous thing, relatively speaking.
Look at the wars that are raging around the globe right now and see that most involve the members of one sect fighting the members of another sect; or see that Jews and Christians and Muslims are killing each other; or see that Muslims are killing Hindus; and if that is seen, the pointer above makes sense: completing a little of the "journey" and thinking one has arrived at the end of the path - when in fact even the midpoint has not been reached - is a very dangerous thing, relatively speaking.
The assumption that body-mind-personality identifications have any validity at all is a source of misery and suffering, if not immediately then at some later point for certain. As noted yesterday, consider the misery among those who were earlier clinging to the role of "The Husband" as a major identity but who now are clinging to the miserable role of "The Not-Husband" or the suffering-inducing identity of "The One Who Is No Longer a Husband."
Yes, Maharaj said that for some it is enough to "understand who you are not." Agreed. But if both the beingness and the non-beingness are not understood, then the "No-Longer-'This'-Or-'That' Roles" will generate as much suffering as any of the false roles that are assumed as identities.

A DAILY CONSIDERATION FOR YOU
F.: If you are presently an adult and someone said that "you are a dog," you would not believe that for a second; however, if you were a child and someone began telling you from early on that you're a dog, you would believe it.
If someone speaks to a child only in French, that child will eventually speak French; if someone speaks to that same child only in English, that child will eventually speak English; and if someone only makes barking sounds in the presence of that child, that child will eventually make barking sounds as well.
The child in the latter instance would have been fooled completely, and that is what happens to every child nowadays: every child is fooled by all of the nonsense that it is taught:
"You're a boy."
"You're a good boy."
"You were a bad boy today."
"You are a Christian, Jew, Muslim, Sikh, Hindu, Advaitin" ... ad infinitum.
Later:
"You are a Pentecostal woman so you must wear your hair long."
"You are a Muslim woman so you must cover your body from head to toe."
"You are a Christian woman so you must wear long skirts, not short skirts."
"I now pronounce that you are a wife."
"I now pronounce that you are a husband."
Later:
"I now assume that I am a super wife."
"I now assume that I am a super husband."
Consider: at this very moment, how many men on the planet are in complete misery because the persons (the ones who had been playing the co-dependent, counterpart role that is required for the ego-state of "The Husband" to believe that it is real) said, "I'm leaving you."
How many men right now are feeling as if they were being attacked, hurt, interfered with, threatened, and even destroyed when the co-dependent, counterpart player quit playing her role? And the personality identifications that generated all of that emotional intoxication were all based in a lie, a lie that made a fool of every person who has ever believed the one who proclaimed that "You are now a wife" or "You are now a husband."
To paraphrase Krishna, those who understand that THAT Which I Am is beyond both beingness and non-beingness are wise; all others are fools.
That is, all who believe that they are presently "being this" or "being that" - or who believe that they are no longer "being this or that" which they once were - are fools; i.e., they have been fooled.
If a man believes "I am a husband" but then later believes after his spouse leaves him that "I am a 'former husband' or a 'not-husband'," then he has been fooled completely by his culture, and being fooled is a sure-fire guarantee for misery and suffering (all rooted in personality assignment and / or adoption).
To paraphrase, if you are so foolish that you believe you are the false roles which have been assigned to you or which you have adopted, then you are also foolish enough to believe that you are the child of a barren woman.
[To illustrate how widespread such foolish is, consider the billions and trillions of Christians over the last two thousand years who have believed that they are members of a religion whose "Savior" was born of a virgin. There were twenty-two religions before Jesus was born that claimed their savior was born of a virgin; Jesus was the twenty-third whose mother made the claim (and her claim of being made pregnant not by a man but by God saved her from being stoned to death). And today, two billion people still believe in that fiction as a result of their blind, unquestioning faith; billions and trillions of Hindus have believed the tale set forth in the story of Krishna, that - as with Jesus - the deity is the agent of conception and also the offspring; billions of Buddhists over the years have believed that Buddha was conceived without sexual activity. Persons programmed early on will believe anything: "Born of a virgin? Okay." "Born of a barren woman? It's a miracle!"]
No personal identity has any validity, whether the personal identity involves any of the scores of personas that people assume or involves a deity or deities with some supposedly personal identification. And to believe that one's assigned or assumed personal identities are real is to be trapped in the misery-and-suffering-generated distortion that is the scourge of the non-Realized masses.
For the one who believed "I was a husband" and "I was a super husband" and who now believes that he is no longer "The Husband" (or is a "not-husband"), then misery and suffering is assured. He has missed completely the understanding offered in Krishna's pointer: That Which You Were, Are, and Shall Be is beyond beingness and not-beingness.
"Being this or that" is a lie; "being this or that at one point but no longer being this or that at a later point" is also a lie as well.

A DAILY CONSIDERATION FOR YOU
F.: The thoughts and words and actions and emotional intoxication that are generated by personality comprise, to use Marx's phrase, "the opiate of the masses." He was referring to the number one source of personas / ego-states on the planet, namely, religion. The primary addiction / opiate of the masses is to control, and the secondary addiction / opiate of the masses is to the power that is required to exert control. Religion and so-called "spirituality" are certainly about acquiring or tapping into "power" and a "Power" or "Powers." They are certainly about the desire of a large chunk of the planet's population who want to have the power to control the thoughts and words and actions of the masses.
And that desire to control is not only about controlling people. Religious and spiritual people along the Gulf of Mexico are presently hypervigilant about what is called the "hurricane season," and for 6.5 decades - as hurricanes approached the coastline - persons have been watched as they pray for their "Power" to alter the path of a storm and move it away from their towns and cities and states (and are thus also requesting by default that it strike some other towns or cities or states).
During last year's drought, the governor of Texas called on citizens to pray to God for rain. He later held a rally for rain - a prayer meeting in a large venue - where he brought citizens together under one roof, supposedly to increase their power by praying in unison for rain. (To his chagrin, the drought worsened during the weeks after his prayer meeting.) This summer again, rainfall totals are below normal, so people right now in Texas and other states are praying for rain. So the addiction / opiate of those fixated at the third-of-seven-steps on the path is not only an addiction to controlling people but is also an addiction to controlling all things as well, including the weather.
Humanity, trapped in personality, has progressed very little since the first communion service was held thousands of years ago when - to please the Rain God - the sacrificing of a virgin's beating heart was made: while she was still alive, her heart was cut out of her chest, a priest ate the body and drank the blood, and then he passed it among the faithful for them to do the same. No rain? Kill another virgin tomorrow and the next day and the next until it finally rained, followed by the claim, "See? I told you it would work." Power? Control? No. Distortion.
Of course both power and control are illusions, taken to be real only if abiding under the influence of the opiate of personality and persona-driven behaviors.
Yet while religion and spirituality are the most widely-used opiates, generating more persona-adoptions than any other single source, all persona-adoption generates almost as much distortion:
The Type One Perfectionist desires power in order to judge and change and reform.
The Type Two Helper desires the power to make everyone like or love him or her.
Type Three Achievers / Performers desire the power to make all people admire and applaud them in order to attain the success that Threes want.
Type Fours desire the power to rebel against authority and to be free.
Type Fives desire the power to know it all and the power to convince people that the Fives really do know it all.
Types Sixes are addicted to being taken care and desire the power to manipulate others to do that.
Type Sevens desire the power and wherewithal to escape, to party, to have a good time.
Type Eights desire control over people and places and things and will do all that they can to try to accumulate the power that will provide them control.
And Type Nines are addicted to the avoidance of anything and everything and anyone that would disturb their "inner peace," though that peace too is an illusion.
Look as you might, but you will not find even one, single benefit to assuming personality identifications or to abiding under the illusion that you are something (or that you are many things, i.e., roles) that you are not.
August 31, 2013
The actual motive: To avoid human contact as much as possible, their reading and research being a solitary project that allows them to retreat into the "safety" of their books and libraries. They are usually intellectually-arrogant and stubborn, and their desire to avoid often reaches schizoid levels. At their worst, they are contentious, suspicious, withdrawn, and negative. Being hoarders, some Fives will even avoid paying bills on time though they have plenty of money and could pay off all their debts if they had an ability to choose to do so, which they do not.
Type Sixes (comprising 50% of the planet's population) appear to be loyal and caring and warm and helpful.
The actual motive: To find a caretaker and a bill-payer ... be that a person or a company or a government. They are the most anxious and fear-based of all the types, and their loyalty and caring are inspired by a desire to control someone or some entity to take care of them. Behind their sometimes witty facade, they are hypervigilant, paranoid, defensive, almost as rigid as Type Ones, and often testy. While some people repeat the trite expression, "I'm taking it one day at a time," a Six's philosophy is that "I will only dread one day at a time." They fear death, poverty, and independence, hating the notion of having to take care of themselves, alone. Want to control the masses in a nation? Appeal to the fears of the majority Type Sixes.
Type Sevens appear to be the happy-go-lucky, sociable, and the life of the party. They can appear to be spontaneous and care-free.
The actual motive: A Seven is almost as much a go-er and do-er and zoom-er as a Type Three, but whereas Threes go and do and zoom to achieve, Sevens go and do and zoom to escape (their stressors, their issues, reality, everything except "a good time"). They can be almost as fear-based as a Type Six, often burdened by anxiety of the highest level. They are unfocused, undisciplined, manic, restless, self-destructive, and (like Threes) masters of denial, rendering them the Type most likely to have the Addictive Personality Disorder.
Type Eights appear to be energetic and self-assured leaders.
The actual motive: Because many Eights were abused as children, they grow up to be abusers. They can be controlling and domineering and self-centered, suffering what is termed here "malignant narcissism." Where the narcissism and meanness of a Three can inspire them to beat people up via verbal abuse and a sharp tongue, Eights do that and more. The sociopaths of any society usually have a very high Eight score. If confronted over their tendency to be demanding, arrogant, combative, uncompromising, and critical, they laugh and admit all of that is true and could not care less about what anyone thinks. Yet they can also appear to be quite charming if they are trying to put the hussle on someone. (See Ted Bundy.)
Types Nine's appear to be peaceful and cooperative and pleasant and patient.
The actual motive: To avoid all circumstances where their own peace is threatened. The "positive" traits above appear when they are in the passive side of their passive-aggressive personality style. They will agree to adhere to the demands of a partner, but will then go and do whatever they want to the contrary. They are in the 4 / 5 / 7 / 9 quartet of avoiders and escapists, but they take procrastination to an entirely different level. They will be unassertive most of the time, but will do whatever they want in the end ... agreements and promises be damned.
Is it any wonder that the sages have long invited seekers to be free of influence of personality?

Yet personality-driven behaviors often appear to be so positive and always appear to be motivated by something other than what is really at play, generating more delusion and distortion and self-deceit and deceit of others. And that - among many other reasons - is why the sages concerned with authenticity know that authenticity cannot manifest in the presence of personality.
So consider apparent motives vs. actual motives:
The Type One appears to be quite noble, concerned with making self and friends and relatives and neighbors and one's state and one's nation (and - actually - the entire "world") better.
The actual motive: to critique and criticize; to judge; to consider oneself perfect and to try to make everyone over in the Type One's image.
The Type Two appears to be a helper, a caretaker, a giver, and even a savior to some.
The actual motive: to do everything possible to make others give them the love and reassurance that they failed to receive in childhood; they work to collect a huge group of people who they think actually like them and even love them. In the end, they never take care of their own needs but become frustrated and angry when others do not give back to the same degree that the Type Two gave to them.
The Type Three appears to be a hard worker, a model citizen, and a charming, caring person.
The actual motive: Type Three's have a love of success, hoping that success will bring them, not love, but affirmation and admiration and applause and recognition. They are the biggest narcissists of all nine types. The are not "hard workers" - they are so driven to succeed and so fearful of failure that they are often workaholics, totally ignoring commitments to their mates and / or to their children. They have secrets, often what they see as dark secrets from their childhood, so they fabricate and maintain an image and are always preoccupied with form over substance.
Type Fours appear to be creative and expressive though occasionally a bit dramatic. They can be romantic; sensitive; and reserved, and can create and surround themselves with beauty.
The actual motive: To isolate and deal with their emotional issues. (If they Realize, then their isolation can develop into an ability to enjoy the solitude.) They can be moody and self-conscious, self-absorbed, and temperamental. They typically have problems with melancholy, self-indulgence, and self-pity.
The irony here is this: Four's only make up 1/2 of 1% of the planet's population, but they are the most likely to Realize fully. (That "small number - "1/2 of 1% of the population" - helps explain why so few ever Realize; however, if they do, some among those can guide other types to Realization as well.)

A DAILY CONSIDERATION FOR YOU
F.: [continued from Thursday]
Type Fives appear to be cerebral and intelligent and seem to be excellent analysts who have accumulated vast storehouses of knowledge and can share deep insight into all matters. They can appear to be wise and objective though often distant and critical.
Type Fives appear to be cerebral and intelligent and seem to be excellent analysts who have accumulated vast storehouses of knowledge and can share deep insight into all matters. They can appear to be wise and objective though often distant and critical.
A DAILY CONSIDERATION FOR YOU
F.:The Eastern sages have long invited persons to be free of personality. Why? Because personality never manifests in isolation. Once a personality forms, it develops an influential wing or wings and disintegrates under stress to the worst of at least one other type.
Therefore, personalities appear in clusters, assuring that persons will (a) suffer from the Multiple Personality Disorder and will (b) suffer because the hidden agendas of every personality types will subconsciously determine and control thoughts and words and actions without people even being aware of what is driving them.
Consider this brief explanation of how personality forms and how personality types can subconsciously control a person's thoughts and words and actions:
There are nine basic personality types as identified by the enneagram method. One's primary personality type is developed early on, often by the age of six. It comes about as a means of coping in response to the (often-insane) actions of the adults in a child's environment.
In addition to the primary type, "wings" develop so that persons take on the traits of one or more adjacent types. (For example, if one is a Type 6, that person can also exhibit traits of the 5 type and the 7 type.)
Moreover, when under stress, persons can disintegrate to another type and can also internalize a type (or types) that they are exposed to by parents, members of groups and institutions that influence them, employers, friends, mates, etc. The result?
Most persons are driven by the hidden agendas of not one personality but multiple personalities; therefore, those agendas subconsciously determine thoughts and words and actions without people even being aware of what is driving them.
Moreover, personalities are ego-states, so they will trigger egotism and will inspire image-making and, thus, inauthenticity.
Consider the nine types:

Next, consider what manifests with each type when an aggravating factor manifests (aggravating factors being stress, egotism, and / or religious or spiritual arrogance)

If Fours tire of the "negative traits" above, they are the one's most likely to enter into a search for "True Self" and for authenticity. (Maharaj was a Type Four. Consider his early years in Bombay / Mumbai when his behavior was driven more by his Three-wing than his actual Type Four ... when he exhibited the negative Three and the negative Four characteristics above; then contrast that with what happened after he settled into his Four's desire for authenticity, completed "the journey," and then Realized.)

A DAILY CONSIDERATION FOR YOU
F.: To clarify: the point in yesterday's post was not that every problem on the planet involving humans is rooted in duality alone. Nor was there a claim that the non-dual understanding can address every ill.
That is made clear in the eBook below entitled Instability / Insanity: What the Advaita Teachings Can (and Cannot) Address.
Yet most problems among humans are rooted:
A. in duality; and / or
B. in the body-mind-personality identification that accompanies dualistic thinking and beliefs; and / or
C. in what Maharaj deemed to be "ignorance, stupidity, and insanity."
Note that A, B, and C, in turn, are all rooted in "the mind." In the eBook referenced above, more details are provided in that regard in "Chapter One":
Most of the problems of this planet are centered in the mind, including ...
... the belief that man has been given dominion over plants, animals and the resources of the planet and has the right to use all of that as he chooses - thus negatively impacting the environment - is a mental problem;
... the arrogance and sense of separation which lead to conflict on all levels is a mental problem;
... the anxiety and stress and preoccupation with efforts to live according to the dreamed up rules and regulations and laws and commandments of someone else's dogma in order to spend eternity in an upgraded version of "this world" as opposed to a downgraded version of "this world" is a mental problem;
... the fact that Real Love is mistaken for what the masses call "love" is a mental problem (a mental illness accompanied always by a lack of Wisdom, a failure to understand Oneness, and an excess of ignorance), as is the chaos that follows when their version of "love" is seen to have been false;
... the instability of persons' thoughts and words and actions is a mental problem (the Advaitin called "Jesus Christ" purportedly having said that "A dual-minded person is unstable in all ways");
and
... being unstable is one surefire sign of the presence of a mental problem.
This is also offered in that book:
Consider some of the definitions of "unstable":
1. inconstant and variable; that is, likely to change frequently without apparent or cogent reason;
2. unsteady, forever subject to change, highly or violently reactive;
3. unable to afford a sense of ease or reassurance to those who are around them, preferring consciously or subconsciously to manipulate others with covert methods of controlling in order to make them "walk on eggshells" or to keep them at a distance;
4. overly-sensitive to self while being insensitive with others;
5. of unsound mind; suffering from severe mental illness; insane; deranged;
6. disposed to psychological variability; irresolute; moody;
7. and exhibiting such personality traits as:
-changeable
-unpredictable
-unsteady
-inconstant
-unsettled
-irrational
-erratic
-inconsistent
-unreliable
-untrustworthy and
-vacillating
All of the above describes those who are trapped in the Ultimate Sickness of a dualistic mind (and, thus, mental illness) and who are swept back and forth by the tides of emotional intoxication. Consider waves crashing into rock formations along the shores of the planet's oceans: the rocks are there, steady, unmoved by the actions of the ever-changing waves that are crashing into them.
Take the rocks (as in "she / he is steady as a rock") to be the relative existence when insanity is absent and when Reality is overlaid upon it; take the waves to be the ever-in-motion consciousness, the unstable mind, and the existence that many encounter everyday because they are unstable in all ways.
The mind is the seat of duality, and duality is that which drives persons into constantly-fluctuating states of happiness and unhappiness; of shifting from loving to hate; of moving from idealizing and romanticizing to degrading and debasing;
of upgrading and downgrading; of moving from "you light up my life" to "you drive me crazy"; of looking at a potential partner and writing a "pro / con" list of that potential partner's traits but having no "con's" on the list; and of arrogantly doing the same with one's own "pro / con" list of traits; or having all "con's" on one or both lists.

Therefore, another movement or shift is happening here spontaneously after reflecting on the more than two decades since the teachings were first offered here and looking at the results of Maharaj sharing pointers in his loft and looking at the results of "Floyd" sharing pointers in this electronic loft: Looking objectively at his results, Maharaj's satsang method of sharing - in the end and by his own admission (only "one out of 10,000,000") - did not produce the intended outcome.

SHIFTING THE FOCUS FROM THAT WHICH DOES NOT WORK TO THAT WHICH DOES, Part One
A "movement" or "shift" happened here that added another parallel to the many parallels in terms of the phenomenal "experiences" and the noumenal revelations that "Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj" and "Floyd" share in common. (Many visitors over the years have said that they also shared the same parallels with "Maharaj" and "Floyd" as well.)
In the case of "Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj" and "Floyd":
1. both grew up in very poor families 2. both moved to populated areas to seek employment opportunities 3. both exhibited business skills that led to their opening and operating many businesses and to their having a large number of employees working for them 4. both succeeded financially 5. both became attached to accumulating; 6. both married and had a family 7. both were initially religious 8. both moved away from organized religion and became interested in "spiritual" matters, finding and following the teachings of a big name teacher (or, in "Floyd's" case, many big name teachers) 9. both had highly religious wives who were quite displeased with the shift away from religion and toward "spirituality" 10. both began to feel empty in spite of all of their "spiritual seeking" and in spite of all of their accumulated "spiritual knowledge";

11. both began to de-accumulate after both saw that they could survive quite well on a fraction of the income they had been making
12. both had wives who were unhappy when the de-accumulation stage was entered and both had wives who became unhappy about their husbands' focus on non-duality and who blamed their unhappiness on no longer having a religious husband
(The facts be known, in both cases the unhappiness involved the fact that their husbands were no longer interested in - or willing - to work 80+ hours per week and that their husbands were no longer interested in accumulating wealth and possessions and providing the rich lifestyle to which their wives had grown accustomed)
13. both eventually came to see that the religious and spiritual states were also ego-states, and both saw that there are far more steps on the "path" to complete after reaching the religious and spiritual steps and after playing those roles which are the third of seven steps on the entire "path" 14. both "lost" their wives (one via "death," the other through divorce); 15. both accelerated their seeking; 16. both entered into the "forest dweller stage" 17. both Realized 18. both began to de-accumulate even more
19. both began sharing the teachings 20. for years, both answered questions in whatever order those questions were received, though both said that the movement from identification with the false "I" / "I's" involved an exact, step-wise manner of moving along a "path" that involved "going back" in the same (but reverse order) of the way they "came in" - that is, the way that the manifestation happened and the way that the consciousness was blocked through seven stages that resulted in their becoming identified solely with their false personas, with the content of the "mind," and eventually, with the body. But the most significant awareness that finally came to both after years of offering satsang and after having answered thousands and thousands of questions was this: After years of "Maharaj" offering satsang in his loft, and after years of "Floyd" offering satsang in meeting halls and in his home and via what one site visitor called "Floyd's electronic loft," this fact became obvious to both: "Maharaj" came to see in the 1970's and into 1980 and 1981 that his approach was not working and "Floyd" finally came to see the same.

21. Both saw that many who heard the teachings are not going to understand (Maharaj reporting that "only 1 in 100,000 are going to 'get' this" understanding)
22. both soon saw that even more than expected of those who heard the teachings were not going to understand (Maharaj modifying his "guesstimate" and reporting that "only 1 in 1,000,000 are going to 'get' this" understanding)
23. eventually both saw that even far more than expected of those who heard the teachings were not going to understand (Maharaj eventually concluding that "only 1 in 10,000,000 are going to 'get' this" understanding). And the failings were not the fault of seekers.
A "one -in-ten-million" estimate is proof that satsang was not working for most seekers, and the evidence here lately is proof of the same.
Both "Maharaj" and "Floyd" invited seekers to focus on the exact, step-wise "path." Yes, during satsang, "Maharaj" sometimes alluded to the steps while discussing them in no particular order - but he never once laid out the steps in the exact order in which they had to be completed. That was not his teachings style or approach.
Looking objectively at the results here when using an "electronic loft" satsang method of sharing has not produced the intended outcome nearly as often as any of the three "face-to-face" methods used with seekers by which they have been led through the seven steps in order.
Here, the body is growing older, of course. Mahasamadhi could be taken today, or it could be taken in twenty years.
Obviously, that cannot be known. But the decision here has been made that whatever amount of the relative existence remains shall be spent in sharing the teachings in the ways that have been seen over the last 20+ years to be the most effective methods.
Looking back over the list of those that have truly received the understanding, it is seen that Robert R. read all of the books, then took the online Advaita course and then completed some face-to-face Skype sessions to receive the final clarifications required. It was seen that Mac read all of the books, completed the online course, and then attended a retreat where he was guided through the seven steps. Mac said that the online course work inspired him to attend the retreat in order to be able to receive the final "pieces." It was seen that Andy Gugar, Jr. read all of the books, then came here for a retreat and was taken through the seven steps in order, and then returned once more for the final clarifications required. After reviewing the shifts that happened with him after attending two retreats, he reaffirmed this past week his commitment to helping spread the non-duality, nisarga understanding as presented here. As a result of seeing what has "worked" during the last 20+ years of sharing the non-duality understanding - and seeing what had not "worked" as well - changes will be made.
SHIFTING THE FOCUS FROM THAT WHICH DOES NOT WORK TO THAT WHICH DOES, Part Two

SHIFTING THE FOCUS FROM THAT WHICH DOES NOT WORK TO THAT WHICH DOES, Part Two
In "Part One," examples were given of seekers that were led to Realization not by satsang but by following the various protocols outlined farther down this page which provide the understanding in the step-wise, orderly, required fashion which moves seekers along a "path" that is as prescribed by Maharaj ... "going back" in the "reverse order" by which the consciousness manifested and became blocked.
However, conversations with some that just read the majority of the books have revealed that they certainly seem to have grasped the understanding and Realized as well.
As a result of seeing what has "worked" during the last 20+ years of sharing the non-duality understanding - and seeing what has "not worked" as well - changes are being made.
There are seven specific steps that happen when awareness-energy is "pulled" into a cycle of manifestation. When that energy manifests as conscious-energy, that formerly pure and unadulterated energy becomes "corrupted" (or "blocked" from seeing clearly) via programming, conditioning, domestication, acculturation, and brainwashing. Soon, there is a belief in the not-Real as a result of seven degrees of separation from an understanding of the Real.
Using the method that was also employed by his contemporaries - a method which focused on offering non-duality pointers via satsang - Maharaj addressed questions in the order in which they were received. He might receive a question from a seeker at the third step and his reply would include what amounted to an invitation to move to the fourth step. The next question might come from a seeker at the first step, and the reply would include an invitation to move to the second step.
The information offered to the second seeker would seemingly contradict what was offered to the first seeker, so visitors who have come here for decades have asked questions which showed how confused they were by the fact that Maharaj's statements to each visitor in his loft were "level-appropriate" yet were provided in no precise order, resulting in what seemed to be an inconsistent message.
So the process overall was confusing in that
seekers were told to follow the "path back" in the same way that they "came in," except in reverse order,
but
pointers were not given in a specific, step-wise order at all.
Maharaj did recognize the seven steps that are taught here, but by offering the teachings in an order that was dictated by the order in which questions were received from seekers who were at different steps on the "path," the result was this:
a pointer about moving beyond the fourth step might be followed by a pointer about moving beyond the first step, and that pointer might be followed by a pointer about how to move beyond the sixth step.
The same was done on this site for seven years. The result is a collection of 1,800 or so essays discussing almost every non-duality topic that can be discussed, and the search button on the top right side of this page will now allow seekers with a question about a specific topic to find an explanation. That method, however, will never provide the manner in which the seven steps on the "path" must be transmitted and received in order to Realize Fully.
An objective study of the history here of more than twenty years of offering non-duality pointers reveals this: seekers that were given pointers in the exact order in which they needed to receive them were the ones that Realized.
They read the books, then they completed the online course and / or completed seven Skype or telephone sessions or came here for a retreat (or watched the downloadable DVD version of an actual retreat, available below).
Some found that which they were seeking by reading the author's book that deal with non-duality subject matter. Via all of those venues, the steps are taught in their proper order.
The essays available on this site will remain for those interested in searching for a discussion of a particular non-duality topic without charge, but the focus here until mahasamadhi is taken is going to be on offering the teachings in the step-wise fashion that has been seen to work.

This anthology of four books by Floyd Henderson contains the volumes that make up what has been called "The Advanced Seekers' Series" for those seeking Realization via the Advaita teachings
This anthology contains the six books that make up what has been called "The Blissful Abidance Series" for those seeking to live blissfully and happily for the remainder of the manifestation, including these books
This book can be read as a "Stand-Alone eBook" or as a "Companion Piece" or "Follow-Up" to be read after "When Only Three Hours of Manifestation Remain."
The author of this book is also the co-author of a book with Mark Houston entitled "A Twelve-Step Journey to SELF-Transformation"
After having guided over 8,000 people through the Twelve Steps, the focus eventually turned toward working with the few who have been seeking recovery for some time but sense that "there must be something more" or who have said, "I am still not where I want to be." A few - even with double-digit "sobriety" - have said, "I don't want to drink ... I want to die."

[Please note: When the Direct Path Teaching Method is offered in conjunction with the Nisarga Yoga, something unique results when compared to what happens via the approach used by religions, spiritual movements, philosophies, ideologies, etc.:
rather than inviting seekers to learn more, the invitation here is to unlearn all; rather than offerings teachings, what is offered are unteachings; rather than offering to provide seekers more of anything, seekers will find that the process will take away everything. And via that process, the bliss of Your Original Nature will manifest and remain until mahasamadhi is taken.
To that end, the content of this book will seem radical to the seekers of more, but for those truly ready to be totally free and totally independent - and for those who are truly ready to abandon efforts to accumulate and to de-accumulate instead - the pointers in this book might be relevant.]
