A DAILY CONSIDERATION FOR YOU
[Continued from yesterday]
Maharaj said, “ . . . Whatever you perceive is not you, nor yours. It is there in the field of consciousness, but you are not the field and its contents, nor even the knower of the field.”
A car on this planet is not the atmosphere which surrounds it. A body on this planet is not the atmosphere which surrounds it. In fact, nothing on this planet is the atmosphere which surrounds it.
All is energy-matter and is functioning within a space or "the field." Energy-matter moves throughout the universe, so it can be in one area at one point and in another area at another point. On planet earth, the force of gravity holds matter within a limited space, but conscious-energy knows no such bounds.
To understand that, and all that is involved with the functioning of the totality, is to be free of the effects of the chaotic high’s and debilitating low’s that mark the relative existence. It is the means by which one can be free of the addiction to chaos. It is the means by which one can be free of the instability of dual-mindedness (because "a dual-minded person is," indeed, "unstable in all ways").
It is the means by which one can be free of ego and the egotism that comes to each ego-state's defense. It is to know that all of “this” is meaningless and that being meaningless is just fine.
It is the also means by which one can be free of the delusion that one is “enlightened” and thus free of the self-deception that "this body is not me - the Real Me is something which is so much grander than this, which is so majestic, and which is so magnificent."
To be free of the arrogance that comes by finally seeing that neither the body nor the mind nor the roles being played deserve even the slightest degree of esteem or admiration or high regard can also allow one to be freed from mistakenly taking herself / himself to be “enlightened” and being trapped in the illusion of being something that is special because of its Noumenal nature, setting the stage for all new levels of conceit.
When the prerequisites for actual Realization manifest, then the delusion of touting the “benefits” of wishing and hoping and desiring are seen to be the self-centered and self-serving acts that they are; and
supposedly having power (or supposedly being “in contact with ‘A Power’ or ‘The Power’ or ‘The Powers’”) is revealed to be a false belief that reinforces self-consciousness.
Finally, to Maharaj’s pointer that the non-dual understanding can, in some cases, free persons of the ignorance and stupidity and insanity which are the by-products of programming and conditioning and acculturation and domestication and indoctrination and brainwashing.
Being free of the effects of those three conditions can then bring about freedom from the self-aggrandizing and self-righteous notion that one’s dogma and “holy” text(s) provide all that can ever be understood;
being free of the effects of those three conditions can also free one from being self-deceived and free one from being deceived by “others.”
Being free of the effects of those three conditions can also free some persons from the effects of being (relatively speaking) self-defeating and self-sabotaging and self-destructive.
Being free of the effects of those three conditions can also eliminate self-absorption and acts of self-indulgence.
Bore to the point, being free of the effects of those three conditions can also free one from useless hoping and wishing and desiring; can free one from trying to control through the use of phenomenal forms of perceived “power” and / or through appealing to a Noumenal “Power” or “Powers”; and can free one from the effects of ignorance and stupidity and insanity that will free one from all of his or her illusions about "self."
That will allow one to be free of the delusions of personality and free of belief in such bogus concepts as “personhood” and “a Higher Personal Self” and “a Personal Higher Power or Powers.” (Again, “ . . . Whatever you perceive is not you, nor yours.")
Free of those beliefs will allow for an end to dependency and co-dependency, after which total and unrestricted freedom and independence can come.
Then only can the freedom of natural abidance manifest. Then only can spontaneous living happen. Then only can AS IF living happen. And then only can a human be as free and as sane as ever other living thing on the planet (with the exception of the unbelievably insane human masses).
Awareness and sanity and peace and stability await at the end of "the path."
Please enter the silence of contemplation.

A DAILY CONSIDERATION FOR YOU
4. THE ILLUSIONS OF HOPE, OF POWER, OF THE KNOWER AND THE KNOWN, OF INSANITY
First, a reminder: when Maharaj spoke of the fact that the non-dual teachings are aimed at eliminating “ignorance, stupidity, and insanity,” he was not suggesting that there are ignorant or stupid or insane persons. “Persons,” “personas,” “personalities,” and all things thought to be “personal” are illusions.
Nor was he suggesting that any persons should be wiped out, only that ignorance, stupidity, and insanity must be wiped out if distortions and delusions and illusions – and the pain and misery and suffering and chaos that they generate – are to be eliminated in order that freedom and stability might manifest consistently.
Yet those conditions will never be eliminated as long as the masses remain unlikely to seek the freedom that can allow the conditions of freedom and stability to manifest.
Those who are able to put a spin on the facts surrounding their destructive and / or harmful behavior (relatively speaking) and on their far-from-desirable personality traits - along with those who are able to distort or deny the facts about their behaviors and traits – can feel quite optimistic and positive and hopeful about themselves. They have no motivation to look objectively at themselves (at their “selves”) and have no ability to see their hopelessly delusional condition. Thus, they will not seek.
Those who believe that they have power (and / or “A Power” or “Powers”) that can be used to control anything and everything and everyone will not seek to abandon their belief in the false concepts of “power” and “Power” or “Powers.” They will not seek freedom from their delusions but will only seek to expand their imagined power and / or their “contact” with and access to “A Power” or “Powers.”
And most assuredly those plagued by insanity are seldom likely to come to the realization that they are suffering from a condition of insanity. In some cases, the ignorant might know that they are ignorant, but rather than seeking freedom from that condition, many actually brag about it … seemingly proud of the fact that they are “different from” the formally educated or from the intelligentsia whom they despise. They will not seek that which could free them of an ignorant condition.
And the one who is sure that he knows it all – that his religious dogma or his spiritual exercises have revealed all – shall not seek.
The percentage of those on the planet who rely solely on the myth-and-superstition-based sets of beliefs that have been dreamed up over the ages by the leaders of the various sky cults is over 97%.
Why would they possibly seek to be free of ignorance and stupidity and insanity? They will not, except for a few exceptions. They are far too certain that what they believe as a result of their unquestioning faith (rather than as a result of any objective study of the facts that are now available) is the Absolute Truth.
Ignore the fact that their beliefs were dreamed up over a thousand years or two thousand years or four thousand years or five thousand years ago when nothing factual was understood about the functioning of the totality - beliefs which would be dismissed with even the slightest application of logic and reason. They will not seek.
To the contrary, they will argue vehemently that they are "The Knowers of the Truth" and that their dogma is "the truth that can be known only by those in their sects or denominations or groups."
For the few among those masses who do break free and seek, the process of transitioning beyond the ignorance of their beliefs is sometimes described with this sequence:
Post-programming, post-conditioning, post-acculturation, post-domestication, post-brainwashing, and post-indoctrination . . .
persons do not know, and they do not know that they know not;
there might come a time when . . .
they do not know and but at least they come to know that they know not;
later, they might reach the point where . . .
they know but do not know that they know;
but if they Realize, then
they know and know that they know.
In strict non-dual terms, in the absence of any knower at all, that might read:
persons do not understand and do not understand that they understand not;
they do not understand but at least a few may come to understand that they understand not;
next, they understand but do not understand that they understand;
and finally
they understand and understand that they understand (even in the absence of “An Understander”).
So, consider the illusions of “the knower / the gnani / the jnani” and “the known / the gnana / the jnana.” Yes, at some point a non-dual discussion of those personas and concepts will be level-appropriate, but in the end, there is much to be understood but nothing to be known, even in the absence of no “understander.”
When does the “journey” to understanding begin?
Maharaj advised seekers to first “discover all that you are not.”
He said:
“Putting words together will not take you far. Go within and discover what you are not. Nothing else matters”
and
“You cannot give what you do not have and you don't have what you are not.”
Moreover, he said at one point to another seeker, “To know what you are, you must first investigate and know what you are not.”
He would also note that, in the end, this applies: “ . . . Whatever you perceive is not you, nor yours. It is there in the field of consciousness, but you are not the field and its contents, nor even the knower of the field.”
So what are you / You?
To be continued.

A DAILY CONSIDERATION FOR YOU
3. THE ILLUSION OF POWER
Those who think they have power are deluded. Yes, bullies can exercise their desires to micro-manage and control, and their bullying might go on for years before being challenged or might even last throughout an entire manifestation, but post-manifestation, what power remains? None. Their perceived power was as imaginary as the bully’s "world."
Yes, abusive spouses might be tolerated for a while or their controlling manner might go on for years or might last throughout an entire manifestation, but post-manifestation, what power remains? None.
And what of their passive-aggressive spouses that only appear to be under their control when, in fact, they do whatever they want behind their controllers’ backs?
And, abused prisoners might appear to be under their guards’ control but can then explode into rioting and can kill other prisoners and guards and can burn their prisons.
And what of domineering parents or dictatorial teachers who appear to be in complete control but who are eventually turned on by those being oppressed? Their power only seemed to be absolute.
The point is, in any relative situation or circumstance, no absolutes apply.
And yes, Maharaj used the word “power” to offer pointers to some seekers at certain of the early steps on the “path,” but he understood that “power” is simply one more concept that has appeal only to the non-Realized. How could there be anyone with personal power in the absence of any “one” and in the absence of anything “personal”?
Yet what a selling point and marketing tool “power” is to those who would sell their teaching about “power” to the power-hungry, non-Realized masses. Maharaj offered a warning to seekers to stay away from “Big Name Teachers.” Why? Because they could not be “Big Names” if they did not appeal to the masses, and what appeals to the masses is non-truths, not the Truth.
So the big Name Teachers tell listeners that they can show them how to benefit from "The Power of Intention"; from knowing "the Secret of Success"; from gaining "Power … Now"; from having the power to "Spontaneously Fulfill Your Desires"; from "Knowing God"; or from learning to "Use Prayer to Get What You Want and Need."
So what is humanity’s fascination with power? It’s all about the Addictive Personality Disorder. As has been noted here in the past, humanity – with few exceptions – is driven by one primary addiction and one secondary addiction. All other addictions – which often manifest in clusters and multiples – follow the primary and secondary addictions of all non-Realized persons.
So what are those? The primary addiction among persons is rooted in desire, namely, the desire to control. The secondary addiction is to power that is desired in order to allow persons to control.
Understanding that should make clear why all religions throughout history and all spiritual movement throughout history have leaders with an addictive personality and followers with an addictive personality.
Those leaders offer power (and “A Power” or many “Powers” in the form of a god or gods and goddesses) in order to provide the power that persons desire in order to satisfy their primary addiction to control.
Have a hurricane coming your way? Pray for its course to be diverted (and to hell with those who live along its new path). Your area in a drought. Pray to a Power for rain. Have a friend or relative involved in a war? Pray that they can kill their enemices and return home safely.
Have a favorite sports team? Pray that they will win. 50% in the U.S. believe that "God plays a role in who wins football games. (No wonder issues like war and famine and violence and poverty and disease are being ignored, what with the Divine's preoccupation with sports supposedly being at play.)
Have a desire to control someone’s feeling and want him or her to marry you? Pray. Have a desire to control a child? Pray (and also use that in combination with force and “The Force”).
See, those addicted to control want power “here” (be it physical, military, psychological, economic, whatever); but most control freaks / control addicts also want power (Power, Powers) “there” (residing in some Noumenal "world" but giving those in their phenomenal “world” the control that they desire).
And the last thing a control freak / a power addict wants is to be challenged. Want to be miserable? Then let your personality-based fears drive you into a “relationship” with power addicts / control freaks (who usually have sociopathic tendencies).
Ignore the signs that could make clear that the rich or politically-powerful person (whom you think might be the vehicle of your “salvation”) has - below his or her smooth surface - the sociopathic personality traits discussed below.
From “11 Signs You May Be Dating A Sociopath” (which could have been as easily titled, “You May Be Voting For A Sociopath,” “You May Be Married To A Sociopath,” “You May Be Working For A Sociopath,” etc.):
From the article:
Could that amazing new person you or a loved one is dating actually be a sociopath? It's not as far-fetched as you might imagine. Roughly one in twenty-five Americans is a sociopath.
Of course, not all sociopaths are dangerous criminals, but they certainly can make life difficult, given that the defining characteristic of sociopathy is antisocial behavior.
HERE ARE 11 RED FLAGS TO LOOK OUT FOR:
RED FLAG #1: Having an oversized ego
The DSM-V notes that sociopaths have an inflated sense of self (a key pointer within most non-dual teachings). They are narcissists to the extreme, with a huge sense of entitlement. They tend to blame others for their own failures.
RED FLAG #2: Lying and exhibiting manipulative behavior
Sociopaths use deceit and manipulation on a regular basis.
RED FLAG #3: Exhibiting a lack of empathy
They can't even imagine how other people feel.
RED FLAG #4: Showing a lack of remorse or guilt or shame
RED FLAG #5: Staying eerily calm in scary or dangerous situations
Experiments have shown that while normal people show fear when they see disturbing images, sociopaths tend not to.
RED FLAG #6: Behaving irresponsibly or with extreme impulsivity
Sociopaths bounce from goal to goal and act on the spur of the moment. They can be irresponsible when it comes to their finances and their obligations to other people.
RED FLAG #7: Having few friends
Sociopaths tend not to have friends - not real ones, anyway. Sociopaths don’t want friends, unless they need them; all of their friends are only superficially connected with them, friends by association.
RED FLAG #8: Being charming - but only superficially
Sociopaths can be very charismatic and friendly because they know it will help them get what they want. They are expert con artists and always have a secret agenda. People are so amazed when they find that someone is a sociopath because they’re so amazingly effective at blending in. They’re masters of disguise. Their main tool to keep them from being discovered is the creation of an outer personality (or image. Again, consider the non-dual message.)
As one diagnosed and admitted sociopath said, “You would like me if you met me. I have the kind of smile that is common among television show characters and rare in real life, perfect in its sparkly-teeth dimensions and ability to express pleasant invitation.”
RED FLAG #9: Living by the “pleasure principle”
If it feels good and they are able to avoid consequences, they will do it! They live their life in the fast lane - to the extreme - seeking stimulation, excitement and pleasure from wherever they can get it.
RED FLAG #10: Showing disregard for societal norms
They break rules and laws because they don’t believe that society’s rules apply to them.
RED FLAG #11: Having “intense” eyes
Sociopaths have no problem with maintaining uninterrupted eye contact. The sociopath referenced earlier said, “Our failure to look away politely is perceived as being either aggressive or seductive.”
How to be free of the #1 addiction among all humanity to control? Give up on the illusion of the #2 addiction … to power or "Power" or "Powers." Admit that you have no power and that you really cannot control people and places and things and events with absolute authority. “Experience” powerlessness in order to be free of the deception that you have power or that you are a person and are therefore a powerful person.
How many who are addicted to control and power will do anything mentioned in the previous paragraph and Realize Fully? Almost none. So it is among the masses, but so it need not be.
To be continued.
Please enter into the silence of contemplation.

A DAILY CONSIDERATION FOR YOU
1. EXPERIENCING INSANITY (Conclusion)
In non-duality terms, “experiencing one’s insanity” actually involves witnessing one’s insane thoughts and words and actions; and because the subconscious drivers of thoughts and words and deeds are rooted in the hidden agendas of the many false identities – the multiple personalities - that are assumed as identities then, in non-duality terms, “awakening” or “waking up” involves waking up from the personality trance that the non-Realized are in throughout their days and nights.
The steps offered here provide a means for seeing which false identities have been assumed; for waking up to the fact that each of those has a hidden agenda based in that persona’s fears and desires; for waking up to the fact that those agendas control and determine one's thoughts and words and actions;
for waking up to the fact that because those identities are false, then every thought that those identities inspires, every word that those identities inspires, and every action that those identities inspire, will be based in something believed to be true and real though it is actually false and not real at all.
And to be operating in that condition is insane.
You are the Pure Witnessing, but programming, conditioning, etc. have driven you into the subject-object witnessing mode. Thus Maharaj said: "You are the Self, here and now. Leave the mind alone. Stand aware and unconcerned and you will realise that - to stand alert but detached, watching events come and go - is an aspect of Your Real Nature."
2. THE RAMIFICATIONS OF HOPE
Hopes, wishes, desires … all are the curse of personality.
Fear, anxiety, angst … all are the curse of personality.
Choose any personality – be it “The Perfectionist,” “The Helper,” “The Performer,” “The Boss,” “The Spouse,” “The Lover,” “The Employer," “The Employer” etc. – and if you observe objectively, then you will find that each type has a basic fear and a basic hope or wish or desire.
For example, “The Helper” hopes to be loved – by many – and the fear is that enough love will never be received; “The Performer” hopes to be a great success, and the basic fear is the fear of failure.
The irony of fear is this: that which is feared seldom manifests, and that which should have made one wary – relatively speaking – comes seemingly “out of nowhere” when least expected. Sane caution notwithstanding, what a waste it is, anticipating things to fear.
As many of you know, my father’s mom was a full-blooded Cherokee Medicine Woman. There were a dozen children, eleven of whom became aunts and uncles to me. As was the case with the indigenous peoples, Grandmother held no attachment to the body and did not hold the body in high esteem. It was cared for because it was the vehicle for the consciousness during its manifestation, but during my early years, the notion of “death” was given no heed or concern. Her children would adopt that same attitude.
One aunt was heard to say, “I think it’d be fun at my funeral if you had me sitting up on the first row when people started coming in”; another shared the notion that is held here when she said, “Forget Christian burial for me – it’ll be a lot cheaper to cremate me;" and Grandmother - always improvised financially, with no concern about that at all - said, “If you just leave my body in a ditch near the closest town, then they’ll collect my remains and cover the cost of a funeral.”
All around the subject of "death" was said with humor, and much laughter was shared over the often-nonsensical - and often even barbaric - rituals that are involved with Christian burial in this culture.
On Thursday, we traveled to the family cemetery in East Texas to bury the one called "my mother." A few steps from her grave site was the tombstone of Uncle Dewey. On it was an inscription (evidence of the family’s light-hearted views toward “death”). The message etched into the marble below the name and dates read: “I TOLD you I was sick.”
Sure, there were a few there last Thursday who talked the company line that Christians talk, speaking of her “now being in heaven” and “we’ll be reunited someday,” but for most who were raised by a full-blooded Cherokee mother or by the off-spring she influenced, they merely smiled, aware of what is false about the concepts of “death” and “an afterlife” and fully aware of the Truth.
My daughter at first did not accept the notion that I have arranged for this elemental plant food body to be cremated, but she has come around over the years, understanding the perceptive here regarding the body. Yes, it will be cared for as the vehicle by which the consciousness moves about, but there is neither attachment to the body nor identification with the body nor hope for longevity nor hope for an early end to the body.
See, there is nothing being hoped for here at all, but that does not mean that any sense of "hopelessness" (as that concept is perceived by the masses) is at play.
All regarding the body is merely witnessed, without any personal identification that would inspire hopes, wishes, or desires in any regard, and that view simultaneously preempts any fear, anxiety, or angst about the false concept of “death.”
And it is freedom from that which allows for blissful living.
So can a relative existence that is free of being dominated by hopes, wishes, or desires allow for a sense of bliss and pleasure? Of course, but it is the drive for bliss and pleasure that brings pain and suffering.
Maharaj made clear that whatever gives you pleasure will eventually give you pain and whatever gives you the most pleasure will eventually give you the most pain.
Speak to a mother who experienced the pleasure of producing a child, and then speak to her again if the normal order of things is reversed and she had to bury the child rather than child burying her.
The most pleasure; the most pain and misery and suffering.
Speak to the those driven by hopes and wishes and desires who did everything possible to get the object of their affection to become “Their Spouse,” then speak to them again as they leave the courtroom after the divorce that 50-60% will experience.
The most pleasure; the most pain and misery and suffering.
You see, hope must be "experienced," along with its relative consequences, before one can finally shift into the mode merely of witnessing all and merely abiding spontaneously.
Thus Maharaj advised: “ . . . Give up the desire for pleasure and you will not even know what is pain.” He also said, “The very search for pleasure is the cause of pain.”
And he taught: "The obstacles to the clear perception of one's true being are desire for pleasure and fear of pain. It is the pleasure-pain motivation that stands in the way. The very freedom from all motivation, the state in which no desire arises, is the natural state."
He said: "It is not your Real Being[ness] that is restless, but its reflection in the mind appears restless because the mind is restless. It is just like the reflection of the moon in the water stirred by the wind. The wind of desire stirs the mind and the 'me', which is but a reflection of the Self in the mind ...." He continued: "But these ideas of movement, of restlessness, of pleasure and pain are all in the mind. The Self stands beyond the mind, aware . . . but unconcerned."
How to be free of the troubling experiences of hopeful desires vs. dashed hopes? Persons seldom learn by example or by witnessing; they usually learn by experience. If enough experiences happen to provide clarity, then a few will realize and understand that wishing and hoping and desiring is a useless exercise.
[Is that message for youth or for those who are older and ready for the non-dual understanding? If you offer this message early on, your children may avoid playing the culture’s silly games, but they might well end up living under your roof for decades instead. Pick your poison.]
For those who Realize, they will heed Maharaj’s warning regarding the hoping-misery conundrum, understanding that whatever gives you pleasure will eventually give you pain and that whatever gives you the most pleasure will give you the most pain.
The typical argument: “I would not want to go through this existence without hope.”
The reply:
“Then don’t. Do what you will. There is no agenda here except to offer the Ultimate Medicine. If you do not experience the fact that you are suffering from the Ultimate Sickness, then the Ultimate Medicine will certainly have no appeal. For those who have experienced the misery and suffering and pain that can come via the dualities of hope vs. dashed hopes, desiring vs. unmet desires, and wishing vs. unmet wishes, a solution is available.”

A DAILY CONSIDERATION FOR YOU
1. EXPERIENCING INSANITY (continued)
A fellow in the Far East whose main problem centers in the mind – as is the case with all among the non-Realized masses - has read the eBook below entitled “FROM THE I TO THE ABSOLUTE: A Seven-Step Journey to Reality.” Yet rather than seeing that the steps must be followed in an exact order, he has completely failed to grasp the fact that a helter-skelter, shotgun approach to moving through the steps from insanity to sanity cannot work.
“A dual-minded person us unstable in all ways” means that the mind of every person among the non-Realized masses is unstable, chaotic, disjointed, disorganized, muddled, confused, hectic, frenzied, unruly, and ever-in-motion.
Thus, one day he asks a question of the type that comes from someone at the third step; the next day, he asks a question of the type that comes from someone at the fifth step; the next day, he asks a question of the type that comes from someone at the third step; and the next day, he asks a question of the type that comes from someone at the first step.
It is as if one thinks that the way one can leave Los Angeles and reach New York is to go to St. Louis, then go back to Las Vegas, then go to Chicago, then go back to Denver, then go to Nashville, then go back to Little Rock, and then he will magically end up in New York.
More specifically, it is as if most nowadays are suffering from ADHD, unable to focus and to concentrate (as is always the case with dual-mindedness). In fact, that very term is as misleading as the term “dual-diagnosis” as used in treatment centers to suggest that a client has two addictions rather than one (though the fact is that most are addicted to a host of things and suffer from large clusters of addictions).
Many alcoholics who have been worked with here were also addicted to nicotine, to sex, to “love,” to people, to chaos, and to spending money in a most reckless fashion. So it is with the non-Realized masses: they might seem to be dual-minded but appear after further observation to be “multi-minded.”
Of course, within the brain there is only one mind – only one place where nonsense and concepts and ideas and notions (a.k.a., “beliefs”) are stored.
Moreover, what is stored there is (A) a plethora of beliefs that are contradictory as well as (B) the belief in the multiple personalities that all have conflicting agendas and that lead to the never-ending noise and racket going on in the head . . . that is, to the chatter of a thousand monkeys in the head that most deal with every day.
Thus, the insanity among the masses includes believing in contradictory beliefs and in believing that all of the different personas (with all of their contradictory agendas) are real and warrant attention.
So of course the non-Realized with their Multiple Personality Disorders and their contradictory beliefs will suffer from the constant disjointed, rambling, incoherent, disorganized, disorderly thinking that such a mind will be guaranteed to generate.
Then they happen upon someone offering some version of non-duality (or something that they are told is non-duality when it actually has nothing to do with non-duality at all) and they try to grasp the understanding by use of the mind; that is, they try to solve the contradictions presented in their homes and societies and religions and their so-called “world” with the contradictory content of the mind, ignoring the fact that their problem is centered in the very mind that they are trying to use to "cure" the mind.
What insanity, to try to solve a riddle with a riddle; or what insanity to try to be freed from a trap by attaching to the trap and clinging to the trap forever. The treatment for the Ultimate Sickness does not work like the approach used for addressing many diseases.
A vaccine contains an agent that resembles a disease-causing microorganism in the hope that the body’s immune system will attack the vaccine and develop an ability to stave off a subsequent full-blown exposure to a disease-causing microorganism later on.
The Ultimate Medicine does not work that way at all. Treatment for insanity does not involve adding more insanity to the mix. Treatment for living in the delusion that false personas are real does not involves adopting more false personas.
Yet that is exactly what many do: “I was 'The Horrible Drunk,' 'The Abuser of My Family,' 'The One Ripping Off My Employer,' and 'The Total Ass' when engaging with people in my community. I was insane. But now, I have changed into 'A Spiritual Giant,' so I am not that way anymore and I am not insane anymore (my continuing self-destructive behavior notwithstanding)."
Adopting a new false identity does not make it real and does not restore sanity. It perpetuates insanity because one still does not know the simple answer to “Who am I?” much less the answer to “If I am not a ‘WHO,’ then WHAT am I?”
The fact is that the cure for the mind is the same as the cure for the cancer that manifested inside this elemental plant-food-body many years ago: both must be removed in order to be free of disease . . . or dis-ease.
One must go to what Maharaj called a state of “zero concepts.” In the end, he said, he had no mind. One must go to the no-mind state to be free of insanity. The insanity of believing crazy ideas is not cured by believing in a different set of crazy ideas. All beliefs must go.
All this “mind-stuff,” all these mental gyrations and twisted thoughts, are much like the whirling dervishes in the Middle East and Far East or like the fundamentalists in the U.S. who roll about on the floors of their churches while claiming that their babbling really involves "speaking in an unknown tongue." Unknown? Indeed.
In the first case, nothing more than emotional and mental intoxication and ignorance is happening; in the second, nothing more than emotional and mental intoxication, along with a healthy dose of delusion and deception and ignorance, is happening.
But those among the non-Realized masses who might look at such conduct and deem it to be “crazy” are just as emotionally and mentally intoxicated and just as delusional because they assume false identities and then allow the hidden agendas of their multiple personalities to determine subconsciously their every thought and word and action.
And that is what the duality-based form of insanity looks like. The treatment that can address that insanity in some cases: the Ultimate Medicine, the non-dual understanding.
How that works? In a unique manner. All others that claim to be able to “help people” have plans that involve learning more, studying a holy book forever, and forming a dependence on one imaginary outer resource or another (or on many imaginary outer resources).
Only the non-dual teaching, combined with the Nisarga yoga, suggests that you do not need to learn more and that you need to know far less; that you do not need to be taught but that you need to be un-taught; that there is no holy book to study; that you do not have to live supernaturally but are invited to abide naturally instead; and that there is no outer resource that is to be depended on but that reliance, ultimately, should only be on the inner resource … on the inner guru.
The steps offered here, if followed in an exact manner, have proven to be a means by which insanity can be un-done by removing all of the nonsense (which has been stored in the part of the brain that is called “the mind”);
and that is accomplished by removing all of the content which was placed there via programming, conditioning, acculturation, domestication, brainwashing, and indoctrination.
Sanity is restored when one is able to differentiate the Truth from the false, and that cannot happen until one realizes this:
"Damnation! 'They' lied to me! It was ALL one lie after another. It is all BS!"
Then, when ALL beliefs are cast aside, then only can one say with validity, "I'm free! I've truly been restored to sanity!"
To be continued.

A DAILY CONSIDERATION FOR YOU
F.: [From yesterday]
Yet as was the case here when there was “the supposed, imagined experiencer of many things positive and many things negative,” those who would be free (of ignorance and stupidity and insanity) must first – for a time – “experience” the full, ill effects of duality to reach the stability and sanity and peace that the non-dual understanding can bring.
The non-Realized, during their relative existence, must first “experience” their weakness to “experience” strength; must “experience” their insanity to reach sanity; must “experience” hopelessness in order to experience “hope,” and must “experience” their no-ability-to-choose state in order to reach a point where they can make conscious choices, even in the absence of a “maker of choices” and in the presence of mere Witnessing that allow for the full awareness of all.
1. EXPERIENCING INSANITY
“First,” it might be asked, “how can insanity be experienced if there is no experiencer?” Recall that Maharaj did indeed advise some, “ … the fact is that the three - experiencer, experiencing, experience - are not. In witnessing, in awareness, Self-consciousness, the sense of being this or that, is not. Unidentified being remains.” So?
So consider pain vs. misery and suffering. Pain is of the body; misery and suffering are of the mind.
A body can certainly register pain, yet a body cannot experience pain if consciousness is suspended. Under the effects of anesthesia, a doctor can cut open a chest, remove a heart, insert another one, and all the while the body does not experience / register pain at all. The experiencing of pain comes after consciousness is restored; therefore, it is not the body that is experiencing pain but it is the consciousness that is conscious of (that is “experiencing”) pain instead.
Similarly, there is no “one” to experience misery and suffering. Feeling miserable over a perceived “loss”? That’s the mind’s misperception, thinking there was someone who had something to begin with that was later lost. There was not.
“The Wife” is a concept. There is no one to “have” a wife, so there is no one to "lose" a wife. Same with the fictional “Husband” that cultures dream up in order to control people. [If that one non-dual pointer were understood in the U.S., then 50% of all murders annually would cease. The same is the case all around the globe.]
Second example: Grandmother once explained that the Cherokee language had no words that could express such concepts as “ownership,” “own,” “my” or “mine”; therefore, she explained, there was obviously no word for “loss.”
Imagine how much angst and sturm und drang (that is, “storm and stress” or, most revealing, the literal meaning, “storm and yearning”) would never occur if the duality of “loss vs. gain” were eliminated.
So when the suggestion is offered that “one must experience his or her insanity to reach sanity,” that really means that steps must be taken to unblock the blocked consciousness so that the consciousness can witness the evidence of insanity when it occurs.
Thus, what lay persons call “experiencing” – believing that there really is some “one” that can be “The Experiencer” – the Realized for the sake of discussion call “witnessing.” There are two levels of witnessing: subject-object witnessing” and “Pure Witnessing.” The Realized witness via the latter.
Of course, among the non-Realized, that cannot happen. All is witnessed by the masses in a subject-object mode only. So the case is among the masses that most will never realize what they do not realize, will never understand what they do not understand, and will never know that they actually understand nothing factually and instead are attached to delusions and false beliefs.
So it is the mind that believes duality is real, and it is the blocked consciousness that seemingly experiences the effects of believing in duality. That is why the main problem among the masses does truly center in the mind.
Yet how can the insane ever witness their insanity? Usually, being conscious of one’s insanity manifests in small “blips” that are soon ignored, denied, accepted, or “spun out of existence,” depending on the dominant personality type:
Type Ones deny that they are not perfect.
Type Twos never consider that they might be anything other than perfectly lovable.
Type Threes might see a relative flaw, but within minutes or seconds, they “put a spin on” the facts, reject the awareness of a flaw, and then return to their usual self-concept: that they are – like Ones - perfect.
Type Fours – when not in touch with their Authentic Self - will escape the truth.
Type Fives and Sixes and Sevens and Nines avoid the truth.
And Type Eights can see their sociopathic tendencies and relative flaws but could not care less about them. (When I have provided Eights with evidence of their sociopathic nature, most actually laughed and said, "Yep, that me. Ha.")
[Is it possible that the more aware one becomes of the effects of personality, the more obvious it becomes why the masters have always advised to be rid of personality and personal identities and the subconscious desires and fears of personas that drive thoughts and words and actions?]
The result: most will never actually “experience” / Witness the evidence of insanity that they are displaying, so most will never be free of insanity. At best, a glimpse might happen that leads one to say “I can’t believe I was so stupid as to fall for that”;
later, a few might transition beyond the miasma generated by their ego-states’ egotism and declare, “You know, I have a pattern showing up here that is making kind of clear that something is wrong with me”;
fewer still might reach the point where they are able to confess, “You know, I think that I must be going crazy”;
and even fewer might reach the point where they admit, “I am full-blown nuts. My life sucks, big time. I am going to have to do something.”
But that “something” usually turns out to be more of what they have been doing all along. Been religious? “I’ve got to be even more religious.” Been spiritual: “I have got to increase the time spent doing my spiritual exercises and meditation and getting close to ‘The Power’ or to ‘God’.”
Been drinking or drugging? Then subconsciously the drive is to drink or drug more. Been working or shopping or eating or losing yourself in relationships based in sex alone? Then subconsciously the drive is to work more or shop more or eat more or have even more sex.
How willing are such types to admit that their self-destructive conduct is insane? Little. “Up yours! I don’t have a problem! In fact, you are the one with a problem.” Indeed.
In other words, the non-Realized masses seldom “get out the box” they were placed in, so in spite of the fact that what they have done has not worked, they conclude that (1) they need even more of what is not working and that (2) their problem is rooted in the quantity of what they are doing rather than in the absent quality (the legitimacy or effectiveness) of what they are doing.
The seven-step process is a process that begins to tip the scales from insanity to sanity. The farther along the “path” one moves, the more that false beliefs can be seen to be false and the more that Truth can be seen to be the Truth.
Eventually, one might transition the insanity of not being able to differentiate true from false; if that happens, then sanity can be restored as the effects of programming, conditioning, acculturation, domestication, brainwashing, and indoctrination are undone.
Only after actually “experiencing” (witnessing) the insanity of duality and making the connection between duality on the one hand and chaos and the absence of peace on the other, then only can the stability and peacefulness of the non-dual understanding actually manifest.

A DAILY CONSIDERATION FOR YOU
F.: Consideration of the words “experiencing” and “experience” provide an opportunity for understanding a non-dual pointer which – like so many – appear at first glance to be contradictory but are actually paradoxical; that is, they might seem to be two, totally opposite points that seem impossible to reconcile but are nevertheless actually true or possible.
For example, Maharaj said, “I have no faith in anything which has ever been told, not even what has been told by the Vedas. Only my own experience.”
How can one reconcile the fact that he spoke on that occasion of his “own experience” while teaching on other occasions that there is no experiencer, that there is no “one” to experience anything?
How can the consciousness during this series speak of “experiencing hopelessness” or “experiencing powerlessness” or “experiencing insanity” while understanding full well that there is no “one” who can experience anything?
Well, first, there are “level-appropriate” pointers. Secondly, those who are trapped in their dualistic beliefs and perceptions are seemingly dealing with the dualities of hopelessness vs. perceived hope, powerlessness vs. perceived power, and insanity vs. perceived sanity. Such types are being addressed at the point “where they are” rather than in terms of “where the one offering non-dual pointers is inviting them to eventually be.”
When “floyd” was lost in the dream and living on the stage of the Theater of the Lie, he was trapped in a multiplicity of ego-states that inspired the use of the ego-defense mechanism of egotism; therefore, there were times when he would have been certain that he was “experiencing slights” that were of the “you’re killing me” variety.
As freedom from more and more ego-states began to manifest, then slights took on more of the character of "stings." Nowadays (in the absence of any identity or any sense of personhood) the case is this:
those who write here to express their disagreement with certain pointers – using the most scathing words and expressing their most scornful thoughts – can no longer trigger any sense of “you’re killing me”; nor can they elicit any ego-state sense of “Ouch! That hurt … that was quite a sting.”
The perception of such types have evolved from “some kind of killer” to “a stinger” to “a gnat.”
Yes, if a gnat in in one’s face and trying to fly up a nostril, then one spontaneously tries to wave it away.
So it is when “neo-Advaitin’s who do not know they are neo-Advaitins” write to complain about pointers offered here that they do not even know are Direct Path / Nisarga pointers;
so it is when “Vedantins or neo-Vedantins who do not know they are Vedantins or neo-Vedantins” write to complain about pointers offered here that they do not even know are Direct Path / Nisarga pointers; and
so it is when “Christians who do not know their beliefs are based more in the dogma of ancient Judaism than in the final teachings of the one they call ‘Jesus Christ’” write to complain about pointers offered here that they do not even know are adumbrating his final teachings.
With such types, there is merely a wave. Whoosh. “Shoo, gnat.”
[The wave nowadays involves less of a wave and more of a striking of a delete key, but you get the point.]
The same happens when the path here crosses with the path of those whom Maharaj described as “ignorant, stupid, and insane”: “Shoo, gnat.”
A year or so ago, a man in India wrote to claim that he “was Fully Enlightened from the moment of his birth” and “for the 26+ years he has lived since.” He also reported that he was “not unlike a Dalai Lama who is an emanation of Buddha” and that he was “like the present Dalai Lama because I also choose my parents and my place of birth and my time of birth.”
“Shoo, gnat.” Delete. See? No "You are not even slightly enlightened." No, "You were not born." No, "There has never been any emanation from Buddha." No "'The Dalai Lama' is just another false identity, just another mere ego-state."
At the point of self-identification, there are those who believe in hopelessness and hope, powerlessness and power, and insanity vs. perceived sanity, so they are addressed at that point.
Because “they” remain unaware of “their own” condition, it would not suffice to tell them that there is actually no "one" to experience anything around those conditions. They cannot fast forward straight to the understanding that there is only the Pure Witness / the True Self that witnesses whatever is happening.
As was the case here when there was believed to be “an experiencer of many things positive and many things negative,” those who would be free (of ignorance and stupidity and insanity) must first – for a time – seemingly “experience” the full, ill effects of duality to reach the stability and sanity and peace that the non-dual understanding can bring. Therefore, another movement or shift is happening here spontaneously after reflecting on the more than two decades since the teachings were first offered here and looking at the results of Maharaj sharing pointers in his loft and looking at the results of "Floyd" sharing pointers in this electronic loft: Looking objectively at his results, Maharaj's satsang method of sharing - in the end and by his own admission (only "one out of 10,000,000") - did not produce the intended outcome.

[Please note: When the Direct Path Teaching Method is offered in conjunction with the Nisarga Yoga, something unique results when compared to what happens via the approach used by religions, spiritual movements, philosophies, ideologies, etc.:
rather than inviting seekers to learn more, the invitation here is to unlearn all; rather than offerings teachings, what is offered are unteachings; rather than offering to provide seekers more of anything, seekers will find that the process will take away everything. And via that process, the bliss of Your Original Nature will manifest and remain until mahasamadhi is taken.
To that end, the content of this book will seem radical to the seekers of more, but for those truly ready to be totally free and totally independent - and for those who are truly ready to abandon efforts to accumulate and to de-accumulate instead - the pointers in this book might be relevant.]

SHIFTING THE FOCUS FROM THAT WHICH DOES NOT WORK TO THAT WHICH DOES, Part One
A "movement" or "shift" happened here that added another parallel to the many parallels in terms of the phenomenal "experiences" and the noumenal revelations that "Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj" and "Floyd" share in common. (Many visitors over the years have said that they also shared the same parallels with "Maharaj" and "Floyd" as well.)
In the case of "Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj" and "Floyd":
1. both grew up in very poor families 2. both moved to populated areas to seek employment opportunities 3. both exhibited business skills that led to their opening and operating many businesses and to their having a large number of employees working for them 4. both succeeded financially 5. both became attached to accumulating; 6. both married and had a family 7. both were initially religious 8. both moved away from organized religion and became interested in "spiritual" matters, finding and following the teachings of a big name teacher (or, in "Floyd's" case, many big name teachers) 9. both had highly religious wives who were quite displeased with the shift away from religion and toward "spirituality" 10. both began to feel empty in spite of all of their "spiritual seeking" and in spite of all of their accumulated "spiritual knowledge";

11. both began to de-accumulate after both saw that they could survive quite well on a fraction of the income they had been making
12. both had wives who were unhappy when the de-accumulation stage was entered and both had wives who became unhappy about their husbands' focus on non-duality and who blamed their unhappiness on no longer having a religious husband
(The facts be known, in both cases the unhappiness involved the fact that their husbands were no longer interested in - or willing - to work 80+ hours per week and that their husbands were no longer interested in accumulating wealth and possessions and providing the rich lifestyle to which their wives had grown accustomed)
13. both eventually came to see that the religious and spiritual states were also ego-states, and both saw that there are far more steps on the "path" to complete after reaching the religious and spiritual steps and after playing those roles which are the third of seven steps on the entire "path" 14. both "lost" their wives (one via "death," the other through divorce); 15. both accelerated their seeking; 16. both entered into the "forest dweller stage" 17. both Realized 18. both began to de-accumulate even more
19. both began sharing the teachings 20. for years, both answered questions in whatever order those questions were received, though both said that the movement from identification with the false "I" / "I's" involved an exact, step-wise manner of moving along a "path" that involved "going back" in the same (but reverse order) of the way they "came in" - that is, the way that the manifestation happened and the way that the consciousness was blocked through seven stages that resulted in their becoming identified solely with their false personas, with the content of the "mind," and eventually, with the body. But the most significant awareness that finally came to both after years of offering satsang and after having answered thousands and thousands of questions was this: After years of "Maharaj" offering satsang in his loft, and after years of "Floyd" offering satsang in meeting halls and in his home and via what one site visitor called "Floyd's electronic loft," this fact became obvious to both: "Maharaj" came to see in the 1970's and into 1980 and 1981 that his approach was not working and "Floyd" finally came to see the same.

21. Both saw that many who heard the teachings are not going to understand (Maharaj reporting that "only 1 in 100,000 are going to 'get' this" understanding)
22. both soon saw that even more than expected of those who heard the teachings were not going to understand (Maharaj modifying his "guesstimate" and reporting that "only 1 in 1,000,000 are going to 'get' this" understanding)
23. eventually both saw that even far more than expected of those who heard the teachings were not going to understand (Maharaj eventually concluding that "only 1 in 10,000,000 are going to 'get' this" understanding). And the failings were not the fault of seekers.
A "one -in-ten-million" estimate is proof that satsang was not working for most seekers, and the evidence here lately is proof of the same.
Both "Maharaj" and "Floyd" invited seekers to focus on the exact, step-wise "path." Yes, during satsang, "Maharaj" sometimes alluded to the steps while discussing them in no particular order - but he never once laid out the steps in the exact order in which they had to be completed. That was not his teachings style or approach.
Looking objectively at the results here when using an "electronic loft" satsang method of sharing has not produced the intended outcome nearly as often as any of the three "face-to-face" methods used with seekers by which they have been led through the seven steps in order.
Here, the body is growing older, of course. Mahasamadhi could be taken today, or it could be taken in twenty years.
Obviously, that cannot be known. But the decision here has been made that whatever amount of the relative existence remains shall be spent in sharing the teachings in the ways that have been seen over the last 20+ years to be the most effective methods.
Looking back over the list of those that have truly received the understanding, it is seen that Robert R. read all of the books, then took the online Advaita course and then completed some face-to-face Skype sessions to receive the final clarifications required. It was seen that Mac read all of the books, completed the online course, and then attended a retreat where he was guided through the seven steps. Mac said that the online course work inspired him to attend the retreat in order to be able to receive the final "pieces." It was seen that Andy Gugar, Jr. read all of the books, then came here for a retreat and was taken through the seven steps in order, and then returned once more for the final clarifications required. After reviewing the shifts that happened with him after attending two retreats, he reaffirmed this past week his commitment to helping spread the non-duality, nisarga understanding as presented here. As a result of seeing what has "worked" during the last 20+ years of sharing the non-duality understanding - and seeing what had not "worked" as well - changes will be made.
SHIFTING THE FOCUS FROM THAT WHICH DOES NOT WORK TO THAT WHICH DOES, Part Two

SHIFTING THE FOCUS FROM THAT WHICH DOES NOT WORK TO THAT WHICH DOES, Part Two
In "Part One," examples were given of seekers that were led to Realization not by satsang but by following the various protocols outlined farther down this page which provide the understanding in the step-wise, orderly, required fashion which moves seekers along a "path" that is as prescribed by Maharaj ... "going back" in the "reverse order" by which the consciousness manifested and became blocked.
However, conversations with some that just read the majority of the books have revealed that they certainly seem to have grasped the understanding and Realized as well.
As a result of seeing what has "worked" during the last 20+ years of sharing the non-duality understanding - and seeing what has "not worked" as well - changes are being made.
There are seven specific steps that happen when awareness-energy is "pulled" into a cycle of manifestation. When that energy manifests as conscious-energy, that formerly pure and unadulterated energy becomes "corrupted" (or "blocked" from seeing clearly) via programming, conditioning, domestication, acculturation, and brainwashing. Soon, there is a belief in the not-Real as a result of seven degrees of separation from an understanding of the Real.
Using the method that was also employed by his contemporaries - a method which focused on offering non-duality pointers via satsang - Maharaj addressed questions in the order in which they were received. He might receive a question from a seeker at the third step and his reply would include what amounted to an invitation to move to the fourth step. The next question might come from a seeker at the first step, and the reply would include an invitation to move to the second step.
The information offered to the second seeker would seemingly contradict what was offered to the first seeker, so visitors who have come here for decades have asked questions which showed how confused they were by the fact that Maharaj's statements to each visitor in his loft were "level-appropriate" yet were provided in no precise order, resulting in what seemed to be an inconsistent message.
So the process overall was confusing in that
seekers were told to follow the "path back" in the same way that they "came in," except in reverse order,
but
pointers were not given in a specific, step-wise order at all.
Maharaj did recognize the seven steps that are taught here, but by offering the teachings in an order that was dictated by the order in which questions were received from seekers who were at different steps on the "path," the result was this:
a pointer about moving beyond the fourth step might be followed by a pointer about moving beyond the first step, and that pointer might be followed by a pointer about how to move beyond the sixth step.
The same was done on this site for seven years. The result is a collection of 1,800 or so essays discussing almost every non-duality topic that can be discussed, and the search button on the top right side of this page will now allow seekers with a question about a specific topic to find an explanation. That method, however, will never provide the manner in which the seven steps on the "path" must be transmitted and received in order to Realize Fully.
An objective study of the history here of more than twenty years of offering non-duality pointers reveals this: seekers that were given pointers in the exact order in which they needed to receive them were the ones that Realized.
They read the books, then they completed the online course and / or completed seven Skype or telephone sessions or came here for a retreat (or watched the downloadable DVD version of an actual retreat, available below).
Some found that which they were seeking by reading the author's book that deal with non-duality subject matter. Via all of those venues, the steps are taught in their proper order.
The essays available on this site will remain for those interested in searching for a discussion of a particular non-duality topic without charge, but the focus here until mahasamadhi is taken is going to be on offering the teachings in the step-wise fashion that has been seen to work.
