A DAILY CONSIDERATION FOR YOU

F.: This was offered for consideration yesterday:

To understand what an “actual need” is vs. a “perceived need” is to distinguish between composite-unity-based “needs that manifest during the relative existence” vs. “illusory needs that are taken to be real when, in fact, they are based in the illusory fears and desires of personality . . . of personas.”

There is no single aspect of the Ultimate Sickness that has garnered more attention from the sages over the millennia than the illusion of personality and the way that body-mind-personality identification is involved in all of the relative problems of persons all round the globe.

Moreover, there is no single aspect of the Ultimate Medicine that has garnered more attention from the sages over the millennia than the part of that treatment which frees persons from belief in assigned or assumed personas and from the effects of personality that must be eliminated if one is to enjoy the relative effects of being free of the ignorance and insanity and anxiety and fear and desires and neediness that personality assumption always generates.

Maharaj said that someday science would advance to the point that it would prove the validity of all of the non-dual teachings. Here’s the science behind personality:

There are nine basic personality types and each personality has a subconscious, hidden agenda that will drive the thoughts and words and actions of persons. Persons may be assigned scores of false identities during childhood and will assume scores more along the way, but the nine types are always there and always influencing every person from early on (the primary type usually being set by the age of six).

The hidden agendas of all assigned or assumed personalities that are erroneously taken to be actual identities all include:

1. a basic desire;

2. a basic fear, which always involves the delusion that the agendas of the various assumed personalities are under attack;

3. a “dreamed up need” that becomes an obsession;

4. the requirement of another person or persons willing to play the role of the co-dependent counterpart that is always necessary for the continuation of the false belief that an ego-state is an actual identity;

5. on occasions, an overwhelming sense that an identity is being threatened or attacked or interfered with;

6. being convinced that the occasional, assumed threat against any given persona (which is always thought to truly define, 100%, “who one is”) constitutes an actual “life-or-death” situation; and

7. on occasions, the experiencing of an ominous and menacing and frightening sensation that is so strong that it can drive persons to assume a defensive posture at times and can, at other times, drive an identity to take offensive actions, supposedly in order to “protect” and “sustain” itself.

And the fact that every persona is a total illusion makes the relative effects of a persona’s agenda no less problematic, dangerous, and even fatal (again, relatively speaking). To continue with the understandings provided nowadays by the science of personality which Maharaj accurately predicted would come about someday:

All persons evidence some influence from each of the nine basic types, but one type is almost always dominant (except in those cases where some people have developed alter-egos or in other cases where traumatic events caused a person to fixate at the level of a child, so they never develop psychically at all).

In all cases, more than one personality type is always driving persons, so all of the non-Realized persons on the planet are abiding under the influence of multiple personalities (a.k.a., suffering from the relative effects of the Multiple Personality Disorder).

Before discussing the perceived but false “needs” that every assumed personality brings, consider the relative “benefits” of understanding one’s personality styles, knowing their effects on you, and then being able to use that knowledge to change one’s relative existence for the better (again, relatively speaking):

Most people will “go to their graves” without ever understanding why they think the thoughts that disturb their peace; why they say words that are not always in the best interests of themselves or others; why they do the things they do that are not always in the best interests of themselves or others; and why they feel the way they feel even when their feelings sometimes seems inexplicable.

That can change by understanding how personality styles determine the thoughts and words and actions of all people without their even knowing it, it all happening on a subconscious level (even as persons believe they are making conscious choices and are in control).

So powerful are the personality styles that control people that, in the ancient Eastern teachings, a primary goal is to be free of personality’s influence completely.

In the West, it is noted by those who are aware of personality and its effects that all people have some degree of each of the nine basic personality types. The key to a healthy life, many teach in the West, is a balanced equilibrium, stability, and steadiness; in the West, therefore, few will ever consider the Eastern approach and find a way to be free of the influence of all false identities, and - if some persons seek at all - the ideal that is sought will be to become “well-rounded” and “balanced.”

Elizabeth Gilbert wrote: “The ingredients of both darkness and light are equally present in all of us. The madness of this planet is largely a result of human beings’ difficulty in coming to balance with themselves.”

Most have heard the maxim that “too much of a good thing is bad.” The goal is to be as balanced as we can be:

Olen Steinhauer said, “Without balance, a life is no longer worth the effort.”

Regarding “being stable in all ways,” the Greeks said, “Nothing in excess” and “all things in balance.”

So, the focus in the West in on seeing that each personality type can bring assets or can bring liabilities. Excessively high scores on a personality inventory can indicate in the West that a personality type is probably exerting too much subconscious control, resulting in an excess of what would otherwise be “a good thing” in moderation. Exceedingly low scores often indicate, in the West, that certain “well-rounding traits” are missing and, if developed, could provide a person with some additional assets to be used on the journey through this existence.

Now, that addresses the effects of the nine basic types that are common to all humanity. Then, add in the scores of other personas that are assigned or assumed and played throughout a lifetime; then, imagine how many hidden forces are controlling humans without their ever having a clue that subconscious control is happening.

Next, the dreamed up “needs” that each of the nine basic personality types can bring will be discussed.

To be continued.

A DAILY CONSIDERATION FOR YOU

F.: “You Needed Me” is the title of a song written by Randy Goodrum, released in 1978. The song became a #1 single in the United States for Canadian singer Anne Murray. A song with the title “You Needed Me” became a number one hit? You bet it did. Here are some of the lyrics:

I was confused; You cleared my mind. I sold my soul; You bought it back for me and held me up and gave me dignity. Somehow you needed me.

You put me high upon a pedestal, So high that I could almost see eternity. You needed me, you needed me.

Then:

I needed you, And you were there, and I'll never leave.

and

You needed me, you needed me, you needed me, you needed me.

What a message, yes? The words were surely loved by all narcissists who felt the lyrics were custom-made for them and revealed something that their lovers / spouses / employees should realize: “You needed me, bigtime, and you still do.”

Consider this exchange with a man that happened a few years ago:

He: “Our marriage can be rocky occasionally, pretty up and down at times, Floyd, but she tells me all the time that she needs me, and that makes me feel pretty damn good.”

F.: “Really?”

He: “Damn straight!”

F.: “So you are attracted to needy people? Being with needy people is ‘a good thing’ from your perspective?”

He: [Expletive deleted]

F.: “Just trying to understanding the working of your mind and your personas. You see, the person I am with does not need me in the least. She has been self-supporting for decades, doing quite well before I ever came along. Her take is, ‘I’m with you because I choose to be with you, not because I need you or need anything you have, thank you very much.”

“That’s the message I shared with my daughter years ago when she was still in high school and when we discussed her going to college: ‘I am encouraging you to earn a degree that can be used to attain decent employment and some degree of independence so that someday, if you get with a man and stay with him, it will be because you choose to, not because you think you have to’.”

[That understanding can also reduce or eliminate any sense of entitlement; any sense that one must find a rescuer; any sense that one needs to find someone attracted to needy people; the likelihood of a person seeking a caretaker; the likelihood of a person being dependent and co-dependent; the likelihood of a person using relationships as a means to attaining “higher” lifestyle; the likelihood of one staying in a miserable relationship in order to maintain a higher lifestyle; and the likelihood of one developing the philosophy that “a man is a plan” or “a woman is a plan”.]

Of course the perspective that neediness is not an asset and is not a compliment is rare because the masses are trapped in egotism and in their own perceived “needs” which are personality-generated and totally based in delusion and illusions. As a result, the level of total independence and complete freedom that the non-dual, Nisargan understanding offers has little appeal.

Are there no “needs” at all then? Certainly there are, as far as the AM-ness is concerned, and if one is in touch with both reality and Reality, then the AM-ness is viewed in its proper perspective as alluded to in the summative statement of non-duality: “I AM THAT; I AM.”

To understand what an “actual need” is vs. a “perceived need” is to distinguish between “needs that manifest during the relative existence” vs. “illusory needs that are taken to be real when, in fact, they are based in the illusory fears and desires of personality . . . of personas.”

Consider the deer, the birds, the insects, and humans. What do they have in common? All are examples of composite unities, a composite unity being a temporarily-manifested triad involving (A) an elemental plant food body, (B) air that is circulating through that body, and (C) a body-cum-consciousness in which conscious-energy also circulates via the continual consumption of plant food (or of things that ate plant food).

For the functioning of a composite unity, what is “needed” . . . what is required?

1. A cycling of plant food to replace cells that come and go and to maintain a plant food body that can temporarily house the conscious-energy;

2. air, cycling into and out the elemental plant food body; and

3. a constant supply of the conscious-energy that also comes and goes.

If oxygen is cut off, the elemental plant food body will cease to function in a matter of minutes; or, if the supply of elemental plant food is cut off, then again, the elemental plant food body will cease to function, (in that case, in a matter of weeks).

For the functioning of a persona, what is required?

1. personality-driven hidden agendas;

2. fears;

3. desires;

4. a codependent counterpart willing to play the foil, that is, someone willing to assume the corresponding role of the complementary persona required for any persona to be seen as real (as in “The Husband,” who needs someone to play the co-dependent, counterpart of “The Wife”; “The Employee,” who needs someone to play the co-dependent, counterpart of “The Employer”; “The Sponsor,” who needs someone to play the co-dependent, counterpart of “The Subservient Protégé”; or, “The Big Name Teacher,” who needs someone to play the co-dependent, counterpart of “The Seeker Who Feels Superior by Associating with the Famous”);

5. dependence;

6. and, of course, the following:

a. programming;

b. conditioning;

c. acculturation;

d. domestication;

e. brainwashing; and

f. indoctrination.

[Note: The “Big Name Teachers,” whom Maharaj warned visitors to the loft to avoid, are not just those involved with non-duality (or some bastardized version thereof); they run churches, synagogues, temples and a variety of other sky cults; they lecture on public broadcast stations; they run step groups and (ironically) self-help programs; they run right-wing, fundamentalist hate groups; in other words, they should be watched for in every venue.]

So, the first two keys to understanding actual (relative) “needs” vs. “phony, dreamed-up needs” are these:

1. Understand that composite unities have simple needs: elements, air, energy; and that

2. Personas / personalities / false identities support the false belief that they have needs and that those needs are real when, in fact, they are only imaginary; yet they result in humankind’s very complex problems (including all those problems that arise because the personality-driven masses actually prefer neediness and dependency and co-dependency over freedom and independence and the ability to choose consciously instead of being driven unconsciously and subconsciously).

A DAILY CONSIDERATION FOR YOU

F.: [To complete the sharing of excerpts from the eBook DANCING LIGHTLY]:

So what is to happen with the Realized and these teachings? Something? Or nothing? It was noted at the beginning that the "end game" is not to sit around discussing Advaita all day.

Some of the Realized might choose to teach; some might choose not to. Some might leave the silence for a brief period to share the understanding; some might not. Either way, the relative is enjoyed on a daily basis with no preoccupation with Advaita.

Such preoccupation itself would indicate that the fullness of the understanding has not manifested. These teachings are not to be focused upon, in the end. In the end, they are to lead to nisarga (natural) living for the remainder of the manifestation. They are to lead to a condition whereby all can be either relished or witnessed purely (and without emotional intoxication), whether that "all" includes what some dualistic observers might call "bad things" or "good things."

To one protégé who was witnessed recently to have Realized Fully, these words instead were offered: “Now You Are done here. No need for more visits or discussions or questions-and-answers is indicated. Via the unblocked consciousness that You Are, the teachings could happen very easily. They may or they may not. So it is. Now, go.”

It was understood that AS IF living would now happen and that the dance can be danced . . . or not. Now, with him, additional discussions of non-dual subject matter amounts to nothing more than a part of the dance, just a smooth, harmonious movement in consciousness. And that’s that.

As for You, you are invited to the dance; you are invited to Realize Fully and then join in and dance lightly.

Yet few ever will for they cannot hear the music that is being drowned out by the constant chatter of the mind. That is what blocks the hearing of the music, namely, the loud, inharmonious noise of the mind; that place where the Ultimate Sickness settles; that place from which the symptoms that Maharaj identified as "ignorance, stupidity, and insanity" spread and contaminate all; specifically, it is the bogus content of the mind that drowns out the music and prevents any ability to dance lightly.

The mind must go first in order for the music to be heard and for the ability to dance lightly to manifest.

Reject the content of the mind, and then come to the dance.

Peace, Unity, Love, Light.

A DAILY CONSIDERATION FOR YOU

F.: [To continue with excerpts from the eBook DANCING LIGHTLY]:

If the light is received, then the lightness can follow. If the lightness manifests, then dancing lightly throughout the manifestation can happen.

In terms of the Absolute, all of this—all of this dance, all of the discussions, all of the false identifications—all of it is admittedly meaningless. So why not dismiss it all with the point that “the results of believing that personas are real cannot occur in the Absolute . . . end of story”?

To one trapped in misery as a result of being fixated with the concept of death, the following was shared:

Maharaj pointed out that if one were to Realize, then she / he would “have come to the end of personality and there is no more human being. There is only impersonal consciousness.” Let the belief in the personal "die" and be done once and for all with all these counterfeit concepts about “birth” and “death.”

So the question to consider is, “WHO or WHAT is there to ‘die’?” The answer is “No one . . . no thing.” Maharaj made clear that there is nothing more than a play in consciousness that is going on and that “the play will come to an end.” It is not a “life” or a “human” that it “dying.” It is a play that is ending. That is all See that all of those fluctuations and changes and all of the unsteadiness and instability are happening as part of the “mind”-flow.

Be rid of the “mind” to be rid of the chaos. Stability can only happen as the Absolute Abide as That now, and be done with “life” and “death” both. Then, dance the dance and merely witness whatever happens, knowing that problems can only come with “life” and that “death” is no problem at all.

To be free of the pain associated with roles and ego-states and false identities requires freedom first from belief in all roles and ego-states and false identities. Thus the dance between the seeker and an Advaitin teacher:

as pure awareness leads in the dance, the movement can liberate the consciousness of the seeker from the effects of the programming and conditioning that have prevented persons from enjoying the music and moving spontaneously with the natural rhythms that happen when abiding in the natural state.

As the dance continues, liberation from the effects of “the mind” can happen. By the end of the dance, there is freedom from “the mind” and even from consciousness itself since it, too, is relative. While the consciousness is an attribute, it is awareness that is beyond all that is relative . . . beyond the beingness . . . beyond the non-beingness.

A DAILY CONSIDERATION FOR YOU

“The most perfect steersman that you can have, and the best helm, lie in the triumphal gateway of coping from nature.”
--Cennini

F.: Yesterday, this was offered:

An objective witness – more specifically, the Pure Witnessing – will see that the fluctuations and chaos of one’s relative existence will never be eliminated by religion, spirituality, philosophy, meeting attendance, ideology, meditation, self-help, worship, clear mind work, or anything else involving doingness, learning, studying, or accumulating.

Seeking via those venues and activities can never result in being fully awake, fully aware, and fully conscious; instead, they result in distortion, fantasy, delusional beliefs and delusional thinking as well as sleepwalking and sleep talking one’s way through the relative existence.

      “There is but little virtue in the action of masses of men.”

--Henry David Thoreau

Consider how asleep the non-Realized masses must be to ignore the actual, historical facts about the venue they use most often to seek peace even as they fail to see or admit that it is that very venue which has been the source of most of the planet’s dualistic thinking, guilt, shame, false sense of separation, torture, killing, and wars. What irony.

“We must learn to reawaken and keep ourselves awake, not by mechanical aids, but by an infinite expectation of the dawn, which does not forsake us even in our soundest sleep.”
--Henry David Thoreau

As the dawn light shines through the window of a bedroom and calls the sleeper to awake, so the light that helps treat the Ultimate Sickness is calling to all sleepers when the unblocked consciousness speaks.

“I know of no more encouraging fact than the unquestionable ability . . . to elevate one’s life by a conscious endeavour. It is something to be able to paint a particular picture, or to carve a statue, and so to make a few objects beautiful; but it is far more glorious to carve and paint the very atmosphere and medium through which we look. To affect the quality of the day, that is the highest of arts.”
--Henry David Thoreau

Programming, conditioning, acculturation, domestication, brainwashing and indoctrination are the enablers that allow the masses to remain asleep; by contrast, it is the type of “looking” Thoreau referenced that can only happens via the “True Self” (that is, via the Pure Witnessing) that enables the awakening. And that happens only when the non-dual understanding is reached via completion of all seven steps on the “path” that allows for a shift from identifying with the false “I” to understanding the Absolute and one’s Original Nature.

“Applying” the Advaitin / Non-Dual understanding by overlaying Reality on reality – that is, by overlaying awareness and sanity onto the relative existence – is the means by which the fluctuations and chaos and ignorance and stupidity and insanity of the Ultimate Sickness can end.

Yet most will never seek the understanding, and among those that do seek, far too many choose to dissociate (from reality . . . from the relative existence) and move into a mystical La-La Land or Foo-Foo World and abide solely as THAT, ignoring the I AM completely. Again, Thoreau:

“If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them.”

He advised:
“Nature spontaneously keeps us well. Do not resist her!”
The same invitation came from Maharaj. The same invitation comes from here: “Abide naturally and spontaneously.” All else is unnatural and / or supposedly “supernatural” (a.k.a., "just dreamed up" and thought to be “super spiritual,” or “super religious” while actually being based in “magical thinking and mythology” or “abstractions” or imaginings that deal with "other-worldly things" when such worlds do not really even exist).

Just as “you are not in the world; the world is in you” is true, (meaning "the world is in you, that is, in your mind") so too is it true that all “other worlds” are also merely the product of over-active, under-informed “minds.”

Why can the non-dual understanding provide the treatment for the Ultimate Sickness when the most commonly-used venues and methods cannot, including religion, spirituality, philosophy, meeting attendance, ideology, meditation, self-help, worship, clear mind work, or anything else involving doingness, learning, studying, or accumulating?

Because at the root of the Sickness is duality and because religion, spirituality, philosophy, meeting attendance, ideology, meditation, self-help, worship, clear mind work, and everything else involving doingness, learning, studying, or accumulating are the prime sources of duality, of dualistic thinking.

The wise counsel that “you need less, not more” applies as well to the seeking process.

A DAILY CONSIDERATION FOR YOU

F.: Yesterday this was offered for consideration:

After years of taking action and fluctuating between periods of happiness and unhappiness and creating chaos and generating internal disharmony and external disharmony and making hundreds of thousands of decisions to "Try this - okay, now try that - okay, give this a shot" what is your present condition after all of that? Have you succeeded? If You do not see that all of the not-you's combined have never truly brought even one real success - one real result that permanently ended your fears and desires and brought stability - then is it not time to stop?

That means, is it not time to stop all of the going and doing and zooming, including doing the same thing over and over without attaining the results that are being sought? Might it be time to forfeit trying to learn more and focus instead on un-learning it all? Might it be time to find a means by which the habit of making a second job out of just living is replaced with relaxing and abiding naturally?

There are some groups that encourage their members to “practice”: (1) “practice the groups’ principles” (“principles” being another word for “rules”) and (2) “do your spiritual practices” and (3) “practice acceptance,” etc., etc., etc. Maharaj said: “Don't practice this thing; only develop your conviction.”

Once a first grade student is convinced that 2 + 2 = 4, that student does not have to repeat that as a mantra all day long: “Ommmm . . . 2 + 2 = 4. Hummm . . . 2 + 2 = 4. Ommmm . . . 2 + 2 = 4.” Nor does that student have to focus with all his might to hang onto the understanding that 2 + 2 = 4. Once there is the understanding, the true conviction that 2 + 2 = 4, it is understood and that’s the end of the story.

Maharaj: "Both the mantra and the faith in the mantra will get dissolved."

Even a first grade student does not have to go to services or meetings and does not have to use a compass to determine the direction he needs to face as he hits his knees five times throughout the day while hearing a master tell him again and again that 2 + 2 = 4. Would that not be the height of ignorance and stupidity and insanity (which Maharaj identified as three of the key traits of the Ultimate Sickness)?

So why do most persons never realize that the fluctuations and chaos of their relative existence are not really being eliminated by the practices involved with their religion, their spirituality, or their philosophy? Why do most never realize that the fluctuations and chaos of their relative existence are not really being eliminated by their meeting attendance, their ideology, their meditation, their self-help, their worshipping or by their so-called “clear mind work” or anything else involving doingness, learning, studying, or accumulating?

Because

(A) they are attached to their new identities, to their new and improved and really good – no, make that “great” - roles which they have been assigned and assumed and which are supported by their religious or spiritual workaholism; and because

(B) such ego-states have convictions as well . . . and really strong convictions at that (all the while ignoring the fact that they previously held diametrically-opposite convictions with the same unshakeable confidence and assurance they now have regarding their new convictions).

The suicide vest bomber that blows himself up while killing people with religious beliefs that differ from his own had also developed a conviction; the sociopathic millionaire - who despises the poor and who thinks they are choosing to remain poor and leach off him - has “developed a conviction”; and both religious and spiritual and ideological fanatics have most certainly “developed a conviction.”

See that all programmed and conditioned and acculturated and domesticated persons are trapped in their insanity-based convictions – no matter how ignorant those convictions might be - and then it should be clear why Maharaj, at the end, estimated that only one in ten million will ever realize and thereafter be able to unequivocally differentiate between the true and the false.

It is only the Realized (with a Nisargan understanding as well) that (a) are now abiding in an all-natural manner as a result of having transitioned even beyond the conviction that Maharaj referenced and that (b) no longer count themselves among “The Believers” or among “The Non-Believers” but can best be described as “No-Belief-ers.” [See that eBook below if interested in the full discussion.]

As for “The Believers,” they account for the 97% on the planet who were programmed (or who have been re-programmed) and who practice their religious dogma; then there are also the millions of others who claim to be engaged in spiritual practices (while proudly emphasizing that they are “spiritual, not religious”).

There are some in the groups mentioned earlier who define insanity as “doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result,” yet the very persons offering that definition to others are themselves doing the same thing over and over every day and expecting a different result. So, the conclusion to be drawn about them is . . . ?

Why are some who are so convinced of their own “improved” state still continuing to do the same thing over and over without truly experiencing a totally different result? Because they have been group-deluded and self-deluded into believing that they are getting a different result . . . into believing erroneously that they have been restored to sanity and that they no longer exhibit any of the traits of the Ultimate Sickness which Maharaj identified and which they illustrated before joining their groups, namely, ignorance, stupidity, and insanity.

When they discuss their insanity, it is always in the past tense . . . always discussing the crazy things they did in the past that provide evidence of their insanity. Yet their current level of insanity does not register at all. Their self-destructive behaviors continue, but in a different guise, once using and abusing “A” to self-harm but now using and abusing “B” and “C” and “D” to self-harm.

In an honest moment, their program's founder admitted that the best their program can offer is “a respite,” and not a long respite at that. In fact, the promise is that – for all the work and time and effort and energy they put into it - they will only receive “a daily reprieve.” That much is true, so every day they settle; they settle for nothing more than a brief respite; and that is insane.

Religions do the same. Once, a man assuming the role of “The Super Christian” shared, with pride, that he attended Administrative Board meetings monthly, Bible study classes on Wednesday, deacons’ meeting on Thursdays, Sunday School and Church Services every Sunday AM and then again on Sunday PM, and revivals or recurring retreats throughout the year. He said, “If the doors of the church are open, I’m there, and I’m inviting you to join me.” The reply:

F.: “Your religious doings seem to be endless. Why do you think you have to be there every time the doors open?”

He: “I’ll explain it to you the way the preacher tells us: ‘Understand that the vehicle you’re using to get through life gets pretty banged up during the week, so you come in here on Wednesdays and Sundays for spiritual body work. And you leave in perfect shape, but on Monday you’re dinged in a parking lot; on Wednesday you’re side-swiped; on Friday you’re rear-ended and towed off, so by Sunday it’s time to get back in here for Sunday School and our two worship services to do the spiritual body work you need in order to get your vehicle back in shape and ready for another week’.”

For a spell, I could only stare at him speechlessly. Maharaj said that with Realization, one will be “stunned into silence.” The same can happen when exposed to statements that reveal the depths of insanity that inspire the normalization of things totally abnormal.

Then, the reply:

F.: “Why have you not considered another possibility, the possibility that you might be wiser to seek an understanding that is a permanent ‘fix,’ that puts an end, once and for all, to seeking and searching and going and doing and zooming? If you find that understanding, then you will not ask me to join you in all of your going and doing and zooming but you will spontaneously join me by abandoning all of your going and doing and zooming and then you will just relax instead. Why are you settling for such an unnatural way - and supposedly supernatural way – of living? Why are you willing to settle for a respite that only lasts for a day or so at a time rather than finding the means by which your freedom is continuous and uninterrupted and unbroken? Why has it not hit you that what is unbroken does not have to be fixed or repaired every week, much less every day? Why have you allowed a man to convince you that normalizing chaos - and living in a state of flux that is marked by never-ending cycles of high’s and low’s - is acceptable?”

Maharaj: “I am stabilized. There is no going into samadhi, or coming down from samadhi. That is over.”

The key words there? “I am stabilized.” Those accepting the normalization of constant fluctuation between high’s and low’s, and those normalizing the chaos of their existence, and those normalizing the continuing insanity that is marking and marring their relative existence, are not stable.

Only non-duality can eliminate the instability.

J.C.: “A dual-minded person is unstable in all ways.”

As for seeking via any way that requires blind faith without any questioning at all, Maharaj said to the contrary, “I have no faith in anything which has ever been told, not even what has been told by the Vedas. Only my own experience.”

“Applying” the Advaitin / Non-Dual understanding by overlaying Reality on reality – that is, overlaying awareness and sanity onto the relative existence – is the means by which the fluctuations and chaos and ignorance and stupidity and insanity of the Ultimate Sickness can end.

A DAILY CONSIDERATION FOR YOU

F.: [Continuing with excerpts from the eBook DANCING LIGHTLY, this from the chapter entitled “Your Original Nature and Lightness”

You are invited to consider the truth behind these sharings from a speck called "Maharaj":

Questioner: "I am restless. How can I gain peace?"

Maharaj: "For what do you need peace?"

Questioner: "To be happy."

Maharaj: "Are you not happy now?"

Questioner: "No, I am not."

Maharaj: "What makes you unhappy?"

Questioner: "I have what I don’t want, and want what I don’t have."

Maharaj: "Why don’t you invert it: want what you have and care not for what you don’t have?"

Questioner: "I want what is pleasant and don’t want what is painful."

Maharaj: "How do you know what is pleasant and what is not?"

Questioner: "From past experience, of course."

Maharaj: "Guided by memory you have been pursuing the pleasant and shunning the unpleasant. Have you succeeded?”

Questioner: "No, I have not. The pleasant does not last. Pain sets in again."

Maharaj: "Which pain?"

Questioner: "The desire for pleasure, the fear of pain, both are states of distress. Is there a state of unalloyed pleasure?"

Maharaj: "Every pleasure, physical or mental, needs an instrument. Both the physical and mental instruments are material; they get tired and worn out. The pleasure they yield is necessarily limited in intensity and duration. Pain is the background of all your pleasures. You want them because you suffer. On the other hand, the very search for pleasure is the cause of pain. It is a vicious circle."

What about you? Have you succeeded? After years of taking action and fluctuating between periods of happiness and unhappiness and creating chaos and generating internal disharmony and external disharmony and making hundreds of thousands of decisions to "Try this - okay, now try that - okay, give this a shot" what is your present condition after all of that? Have you succeeded? If You do not see that all of the not-you's combined have never truly brought even one real success - one real result that permanently ended your fears and desires and brought stability - then is it not time to stop?

Is it not time to stop taking action and fluctuating and creating chaos and generating internal disharmony and external disharmony and making hundreds of thousands of additional decisions of the type that have always failed to produce what you desire and which in the end always failed to alleviate the fears that rob you of peace? More often than not, the True Self is relegated to the darkness so early on that most have no clue at all that there is something other than the chaos generated by the false selves that mark and mar the relative existence.

If You glimpsed Your Self but have lost sight of That because of the smokescreen of your relative challenges, can You not look back and see where You left You? Can you not look back and see the consequences that began to accrue at that point? Do you not miss the stability that was enjoyed during that period of knowing the Self and functioning spontaneously as a result of the wisdom that can only be accessed via that Self? Would you be willing to stop listening to the voices of the false selves long enough to try to hear the voice of Truth and authenticity calling from the shore, beckoning You back home?

That has consistently been the offer here: come home. Follow the "path" in its exact order to complete the "journey" so that you can come home to Your Original Nature and stay at home. Relax in the Truly Loving arms of Pure Awareness. Let Pure Awareness wrap its arms around You and hold You. Feel the tension leave. Feel the anxiety subside. Feel the depression being lifted. Feel the security of those arms. Feel the relaxation. Feel the lightness return.

Feel that touch of lightness and Oneness and Love. Be still and know that in those arms, You can witness the storms that roll in and roll out. Know that the Self cannot be caught in any of those storms. Know that the Self shall forever provide the platform from which all storms can be witnessed.

Maharaj spoke of the "storm of desires and fears." If You will find WHO is enticing you into the storm of fears and desires, then You need not ever again be pulled into those relative storms. Be awake enough to see storms as they approach; stand aside as they come and go; do not attach to ships that are already in their own storm; and allow the peace to come and bring with it the everlasting sense of lightness that you deserve.

A DAILY CONSIDERATION FOR YOU

F.: [Continuing with excerpts from the eBook DANCING LIGHTLY, this from the chapter entitled “Your Original Nature and Lightness”

If the lightness is not manifest, then persons will experience anxiety, depression or other conditions that will trigger emotional intoxication and self-defeating motion / action. Such sufferers at that point will be driven to shift beyond the no do-er witnessing and to revert to the do-er mode because they think that they must act, must do something - even something rash - to escape, to gain control, or to hand the reins of control over to someone else.

Having been pulled away from abidance as their Original Nature by relative fears and desires, feeling as if they are being drawn below the surface of the ocean by one wave after another, seemingly certain that they are drowning and need rescuing, it is at that point that persons allow themselves to be locked into the types of attachment discussed earlier.

If they speak of the condition to Me, this speck of conscious awareness will say: "You do not ever have to take a place to the rear of anyone; you do not have to delude yourself into thinking you are taking a place beside when you will actually be taking a place to the rear; you do not ever have to accept the role of being nothing more than the background music to someone else's song. You might play the game for a time, but you cannot last, living the lie that you will be living at that point."

The talk here is only of freedom from things relative so that the independence of the Absolute can be felt and so that the prerequisites for peace – namely, freedom and independence - can manifest. To attach or not to attach - it's all the "stuff" of the relative; choosing is always confusing, so it will always pull one into the strum und drang of the relative existence by way of the unconscious influence of personality / personalities.

Personalities, having been provided free rent inside the "mind," travel about as if on one's shoulders and back - riding along like additional heavy burdens (as if the challenges of the relative existence are not enough) and leaving them in a position where they can forever whisper their lies into your ears. Being bogged down in the relative and being weighed down by the agendas of those personas will insure that there will be no chance at all for a sense of lightness to remain consistently.

From their positions on your shoulders and back, it is as if the whisperings of those personalities are forever encouraging you to turn left when the "path" is to the right; encouraging you to go right when independence and freedom and peace are to the left; encouraging you to go the way of chaos that is camouflaged with all sorts of attractive, enticing ribbons and bows.

It is those fear-mongering and desire-driven personas (not any relative conditions which are always guaranteed to be temporary) that are the enemies of lightness. They will forever bring to the forefront the notions of choice - encouraging you to "decide whether to chose left or right; chose him or her; chose this course or that (even if all of the choices are senseless).”

Their advice is most often: “Just choose something . . . anything . . . any port in this storm. But above all, do not just stand there and witness what is happening without taking drastic, panic-inspired action. Ignore the captain that is blowing the still and act.”

In the process, the always-self-destructive voices of the self / selves will eliminate any chance to enjoy the ease and sanity of spontaneous living. The antidote to feeling the stress of needing to choose, needing to make attachments, needing to act, and needing, period?

1. Understand this pointer offered to beginners by Maharaj: "All you need is a quiet mind” (until you finally reach the “no-mind” state of "zero concepts"; and

2. understand this pointer offered to seekers that are farther along the "path": "There is no such thing as peace of mind; there is only peace if you are out of your mind." Leave the imaginary world of the mind and come home . . . come back to Your Original Nature, to the only "place" where stability exists; and

3. return to the center of the "path" now in order to reach that calm state where You are abiding as Your Original Nature; and

4. return to a state of non-action, which can only happen when there is freedom from the pull of personality-driven desires and freedom from the push of personality-driven fears; and

5. immerse Your Self in the kind of spontaneity that can only happen when witnessing prevails. The deer make no choices. They move about slowly, they take only as much as is truly needed with no sense that "more" would provide them something that is "missing," and they merely witness humanity's surrounding strum und drang.

They never "think" that they must attach to that insane, anxiety-provoking, depression-producing train of events.

When abiding as one’s Original Nature, one moves through the relative existence in as spontaneous a fashion as do the deer and the fish and the birds and all things that abide naturally (which all living things do except for humans).

That allows persons to finally be free of trying to dream up the perfect scenario and all of the elements required in order for their otherwise-delayed-and-postponed happiness to manifest; then, they strive – other ruthlessly – to make every element of that scenario come about through guile and charm or charisma or through control and manipulation and exploitation and micromanaging and misusing and abusing and taking advantage of.

Freedom is having one job that can meet the basic relative needs. Imprisonment is

(1) making a second job out of just living through one’s constant religious or spiritual or "self-improvement" workaholism and / or

(2) making a job out of using people to get what one thinks that he or she must have – or is entitled to – in order to “make their dreams come true” (as if that is even possible). The latter generates a war-mentality, a me-vs.-them-mentality, and war and peace can never coincide.

SHIFTING THE FOCUS FROM THAT WHICH DOES NOT WORK TO THAT WHICH DOES, Part One

A "movement" or "shift" happened here that added another parallel to the many parallels in terms of the phenomenal "experiences" and the noumenal revelations that "Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj" and "Floyd" share in common. (Many visitors over the years have said that they also shared the same parallels with "Maharaj" and "Floyd" as well.) In the case of "Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj" and "Floyd":

1. both grew up in very poor families 2. both moved to populated areas to seek employment opportunities 3. both exhibited business skills that led to their opening and operating many businesses and to their having a large number of employees working for them 4. both succeeded financially 5. both became attached to accumulating; 6. both married and had a family 7. both were initially religious 8. both moved away from organized religion and became interested in "spiritual" matters, finding and following the teachings of a big name teacher (or, in "Floyd's" case, many big name teachers) 9. both had highly religious wives who were quite displeased with the shift away from religion and toward "spirituality" 10. both began to feel empty in spite of all of their "spiritual seeking" and in spite of all of their accumulated "spiritual knowledge";

11. both began to de-accumulate after both saw that they could survive quite well on a fraction of the income they had been making 12. both had wives who were unhappy when the de-accumulation stage was entered and both had wives who became unhappy about their husbands' focus on non-duality and who blamed their unhappiness on no longer having a religious husband (The facts be known, in both cases the unhappiness involved the fact that their husbands were no longer interested in - or willing - to work 80+ hours per week and that their husbands were no longer interested in accumulating wealth and possessions and providing the rich lifestyle to which their wives had grown accustomed)

13. both eventually came to see that the religious and spiritual states were also ego-states, and both saw that there are far more steps on the "path" to complete after reaching the religious and spiritual steps and after playing those roles which are the third of seven steps on the entire "path" 14. both "lost" their wives (one via "death," the other through divorce); 15. both accelerated their seeking; 16. both entered into the "forest dweller stage" 17. both Realized 18. both began to de-accumulate even more

19. both began sharing the teachings 20. for years, both answered questions in whatever order those questions were received, though both said that the movement from identification with the false "I" / "I's" involved an exact, step-wise manner of moving along a "path" that involved "going back" in the same (but reverse order) of the way they "came in" - that is, the way that the manifestation happened and the way that the consciousness was blocked through seven stages that resulted in their becoming identified solely with their false personas, with the content of the "mind," and eventually, with the body. But the most significant awareness that finally came to both after years of offering satsang and after having answered thousands and thousands of questions was this: After years of "Maharaj" offering satsang in his loft, and after years of "Floyd" offering satsang in meeting halls and in his home and via what one site visitor called "Floyd's electronic loft," this fact became obvious to both: "Maharaj" came to see in the 1970's and into 1980 and 1981 that his approach was not working and "Floyd" finally came to see the same.

21. Both saw that many who heard the teachings are not going to understand (Maharaj reporting that "only 1 in 100,000 are going to 'get' this" understanding) 22. both soon saw that even more than expected of those who heard the teachings were not going to understand (Maharaj modifying his "guesstimate" and reporting that "only 1 in 1,000,000 are going to 'get' this" understanding) 23. eventually both saw that even far more than expected of those who heard the teachings were not going to understand (Maharaj eventually concluding that "only 1 in 10,000,000 are going to 'get' this" understanding). And the failings were not the fault of seekers. A "one -in-ten-million" estimate is proof that satsang was not working for most seekers, and the evidence here lately is proof of the same.

Both "Maharaj" and "Floyd" invited seekers to focus on the exact, step-wise "path." Yes, during satsang, "Maharaj" sometimes alluded to the steps while discussing them in no particular order - but he never once laid out the steps in the exact order in which they had to be completed. That was not his teachings style or approach.

Therefore, another movement or shift is happening here spontaneously after reflecting on the more than two decades since the teachings were first offered here and looking at the results of Maharaj sharing pointers in his loft and looking at the results of "Floyd" sharing pointers in this electronic loft: Looking objectively at his results, Maharaj's satsang method of sharing - in the end and by his own admission (only "one out of 10,000,000") - did not produce the intended outcome.

Looking objectively at the results here when using an "electronic loft" satsang method of sharing has not produced the intended outcome nearly as often as any of the three "face-to-face" methods used with seekers by which they have been led through the seven steps in order. Here, the body is growing older, of course. Mahasamadhi could be taken today, or it could be taken in twenty years.

Obviously, that cannot be known. But the decision here has been made that whatever amount of the relative existence remains shall be spent in sharing the teachings in the ways that have been seen over the last 20+ years to be the most effective methods.

Looking back over the list of those that have truly received the understanding, it is seen that Robert R. read all of the books, then took the online Advaita course and then completed some face-to-face Skype sessions to receive the final clarifications required. It was seen that Mac read all of the books, completed the online course, and then attended a retreat where he was guided through the seven steps. Mac said that the online course work inspired him to attend the retreat in order to be able to receive the final "pieces." It was seen that Andy Gugar, Jr. read all of the books, then came here for a retreat and was taken through the seven steps in order, and then returned once more for the final clarifications required. After reviewing the shifts that happened with him after attending two retreats, he reaffirmed this past week his commitment to helping spread the non-duality, nisarga understanding as presented here. As a result of seeing what has "worked" during the last 20+ years of sharing the non-duality understanding - and seeing what had not "worked" as well - changes will be made.

SHIFTING THE FOCUS FROM THAT WHICH DOES NOT WORK TO THAT WHICH DOES, Part Two

In "Part One," examples were given of seekers that were led to Realization not by satsang but by following the various protocols outlined farther down this page which provide the understanding in the step-wise, orderly, required fashion which moves seekers along a "path" that is as prescribed by Maharaj ... "going back" in the "reverse order" by which the consciousness manifested and became blocked.

However, conversations with some that just read the majority of the books have revealed that they certainly seem to have grasped the understanding and Realized as well. As a result of seeing what has "worked" during the last 20+ years of sharing the non-duality understanding - and seeing what has "not worked" as well - changes are being made. There are seven specific steps that happen when awareness-energy is "pulled" into a cycle of manifestation. When that energy manifests as conscious-energy, that formerly pure and unadulterated energy becomes "corrupted" (or "blocked" from seeing clearly) via programming, conditioning, domestication, acculturation, and brainwashing. Soon, there is a belief in the not-Real as a result of seven degrees of separation from an understanding of the Real. Using the method that was also employed by his contemporaries - a method which focused on offering non-duality pointers via satsang - Maharaj addressed questions in the order in which they were received. He might receive a question from a seeker at the third step and his reply would include what amounted to an invitation to move to the fourth step. The next question might come from a seeker at the first step, and the reply would include an invitation to move to the second step. The information offered to the second seeker would seemingly contradict what was offered to the first seeker, so visitors who have come here for decades have asked questions which showed how confused they were by the fact that Maharaj's statements to each visitor in his loft were "level-appropriate" yet were provided in no precise order, resulting in what seemed to be an inconsistent message. So the process overall was confusing in that seekers were told to follow the "path back" in the same way that they "came in," except in reverse order, but pointers were not given in a specific, step-wise order at all. Maharaj did recognize the seven steps that are taught here, but by offering the teachings in an order that was dictated by the order in which questions were received from seekers who were at different steps on the "path," the result was this: a pointer about moving beyond the fourth step might be followed by a pointer about moving beyond the first step, and that pointer might be followed by a pointer about how to move beyond the sixth step. The same was done on this site for seven years. The result is a collection of 1,800 or so essays discussing almost every non-duality topic that can be discussed, and the search button on the top right side of this page will now allow seekers with a question about a specific topic to find an explanation. That method, however, will never provide the manner in which the seven steps on the "path" must be transmitted and received in order to Realize Fully. An objective study of the history here of more than twenty years of offering non-duality pointers reveals this: seekers that were given pointers in the exact order in which they needed to receive them were the ones that Realized.

They read the books, then they completed the online course and / or completed seven Skype or telephone sessions or came here for a retreat (or watched the downloadable DVD version of an actual retreat, available below).

Some found that which they were seeking by reading the author's book that deal with non-duality subject matter. Via all of those venues, the steps are taught in their proper order. The essays available on this site will remain for those interested in searching for a discussion of a particular non-duality topic without charge, but the focus here until mahasamadhi is taken is going to be on offering the teachings in the step-wise fashion that has been seen to work.

    [Please note: When the Direct Path Teaching Method is offered in conjunction with the Nisarga Yoga, something unique results when compared to what happens via the approach used by religions, spiritual movements, philosophies, ideologies, etc.:

    rather than inviting seekers to learn more, the invitation here is to unlearn all; rather than offerings teachings, what is offered are unteachings; rather than offering to provide seekers more of anything, seekers will find that the process will take away everything. And via that process, the bliss of Your Original Nature will manifest and remain until mahasamadhi is taken.

    To that end, the content of this book will seem radical to the seekers of more, but for those truly ready to be totally free and totally independent - and for those who are truly ready to abandon efforts to accumulate and to de-accumulate instead - the pointers in this book might be relevant.]
