F.: TO REVIEW from yesterday: How Maharaj’s Version of the Ultimate Medicine Evolved

MAHARAJ’S PLAN “A” for treating seekers with the symptoms of the Ultimate Sickness

Being led by a willingness to assist those suffering from the Ultimate Sickness, Maharaj set about the process of trying to find the Ultimate Medicine. He was led early to believe that religion (or a religious / non-dual combination message) might be able to address the Sickness. That could be called Maharaj’s Plan “A.” His teacher suggested that he offer bhajans five times per day (which he later reduced to an AM and a PM session) and that the sessions follow a format using those traditional bhajans (as a “hook” or “bait”) to attract those interested in Hinduism but to then inject non-dual messages as well.

He tried that method for years, without success.

Later, following the 1973 publication of I AM THAT, many non-Hindu seekers came, especially from North America and Europe.

MAHARAJ’S PLAN “B”

His new audience was made up of persons who were not interested in Hinduism but who were interested in “spirituality” and in “Eastern philosophies” and in non-duality to some degree. With that shift in audience, Plan “A” was abandoned and Plan “B” was taken up with a sense that a spiritual approach might provide the Ultimate Medicine which could treat the Ultimate Sickness.

Thus, Maharaj did not decide that “Plan A” was not working and that he was, therefore, going to try “Plan B.” As with “Plan A” initially and with “Plan B” later, he was influenced by the interests of his audience to focus first on a religious or religious / non-dual method of treatment for the Ultimate Sickness and later on a spiritual method of treatment for the Ultimate Sickness.

MAHARAJ’S PLAN “C”

Only years later would Maharaj allow the inner resource / the inner guru - in combination with decades of trying one method and then another - to guide him to consciously shift to “Plan C” and then stay with that until the end.

Maharaj, having realized that the key symptoms of the Ultimate Sickness were (in his words, “ignorance, stupidity, and insanity”) he saw that those all dealt with mind identification and personality identification.

He saw that it was “the mind” which was “the seat of knowledge” (which, with humans, amounts to nothing more than what he called “learned ignorance”); he saw that the learned ignorance stored in “the mind” leads to thoughts and words and actions which are all marked by ignorance and stupidity; and he saw that that insanity is rooted in personality identification which leads to personality disorders (defined as “deeply ingrained and maladaptive patterns of behavior which begin to manifest by the age of five or six and which are typically full-blown by the time one reaches adolescence, resulting in long-term difficulties in relationships and in and inability to  function effectively in society”).

He saw more clearly than ever why the non-dual teachings begin by exposing the distortions of body and mind and personality identification and the perils and hazards that follow. He saw that personality / personalities develop as

(A) a response by children to the confusions and fears which they experience after spending years around their dysfunctional families (dysfunctional as the result of generations of persons having passed on to their offspring their learned ignorance);

and as

(B) the result of faulty and perverted and distorted programming and conditioning and domestication and acculturation and indoctrination and brainwashing (all of which lead to persons being driven by the ignorance and stupidity and insanity which Maharaj referenced).

Looking back at the failures of his early experiments when Plan “A” and Plan “B” each proved to be an ineffective treatment for the Ultimate Sickness, the reason for the inability of either religion or spirituality to be "the cure" became clear:

Religion evolved from ancient myths (which were mere fabrications) and from ignorance-based superstitions. A myth is "a tale about some event which was transmitted orally and which became more inflated and extravagant and fanciful and exorbitant and outlandish and fantastical with each telling."

(Example: virgin births and worldwide floods used by a god to destroy almost all of humanity because people had offended him. Flood myths are a part of the teachings of scores of religions. So are virgin births. Christianity was not the first to evolve from a tale about a virgin birth. Twenty-two religions had already made claims that their “savior” or “prophet” was born of a virgin before Yeshu’a – a.k.a. “Jesus” - came along and had a mother who claimed she was not impregnated by her betrothed Joseph but was impregnated by “the Holy Spirit” or “God.” The Mormons teach that God literally came to earth and had sexual relations with Mary. All such tales are versions of a most inflated, extravagant, fanciful, exorbitant, outlandish and fantastical tale, yes?)

A superstition is defined as “an unreasoning awe or fear of something unknown, mysterious, or imaginary, especially in connection with religion.”

Maharaj saw clearly that anything based in inflated, extravagant, fanciful, exorbitant, outlandish and fantastical tales and based in things unreasonable and imaginary could never allow those suffering from insanity to be restored to sanity.

He also saw that “spirituality” was

(1) an outgrowth of religions, all of which are based in inflated, extravagant, fanciful, exorbitant, outlandish and fantastical tales and all of which are based in things unreasonable and imaginary;

and

(2) that those assuming the false identity of “A Spiritual Giant” often bragged that “I am spiritual, not religious! Our group is spiritual, not religious! Do not call us ‘religious’!” It became clear that those taking themselves to be “spiritual” was often more arrogant that those claiming to be religious, the ego-defense mechanism of “egotism” often appearing in higher levels among those deemed spiritual than among those claiming to be super religious.

No wonder neither Maharaj's Plan “A” version of the Ultimate Medicine nor his Plan “B” version of the Ultimate Medicine led to freedom from ego, from egotism, from distorted thinking, from belief in false myths and superstitions, from mind identification, or from personality identification.

It became clear that neither religion nor spirituality can treat the Ultimate Sickness’s duality-based issues such as ego assumption, egotism, distortion, delusion, nonsensical beliefs, mind identification, and personality identification because religion (and its progeny, spirituality) both reinforce ego assumption, egotism, distorted thinking, belief in false myths and superstitions, mind identification, and personality identification (which leads to personality disorders, neuroses, and psychoses).

Thus, the advice which was at the heart of Maharaj’s Plan “C” included these pointers:

(1) He advised seekers to stop reading the book I AM THAT (referred to as a “spiritual classic”), saying: "That book and whatever was expounded at that time was only relevant for that period. I am speaking differently today" and I am "emphasizing different aspects."

What was “expounded at that time”? Religious and spiritual pointers.

What were the “different aspects,” the aspects he discussed which were different from the earlier religious and spiritual aspects? The mind aspects of the Ultimate Sickness.

Thus he said ("sneaking in" some non-religious and non-spiritual pointers along the way):

(2) "Whatever spiritual things you aspire to know are all happening in this objective world, in the illusion. All this is happening in the objective world. All is dishonesty. There is no truth in this fraud."

(3) "Only that person will visit this place whose virtue and sin have come to an end."

(4) "There is no question of elevating to a higher level. Here it is only a question of understanding."

(5) "Both the mantra and the faith in the mantra will get dissolved."

(6) "There is no progress."

(7) "First of all you identify something as being good or bad for yourself. Then, in an effort to acquire good or to get rid of the bad, you have invented a God. Then you worship such a God and ... you pray to that God for something good to happen to you.

(8) “Whatever you have tried to understand during your spiritual search will prove false.”

(9) “From birth, what has made the body grow? It is no power in the world. It is the power of beingness, the atom, the Self, the consciousness … call it what you will.”

(10) “When the birth is disproved, the great noble meaning of spirituality and the meaning of this world—everything—is disproved.”

(11) “If they come face-to-face with that root, they will be stunned into silence.”

(12) “I have no faith in anything which has ever been told, not even what has been told by the Vedas. Only my own experience.”

(14) "Forget spirituality."

(15) Follow your “normal inclinations" - that is, their natural tendencies.

(16) "Do your normal duties."

(17) "Just give up spirituality."

To be continued.

A DAILY CONSIDERATION FOR YOU

[You may scroll down to "Section Four" to find how to receive up to five, free eBooks which deal with a variety of non-dual topics]

F.: This had been announced:

Coming up will be a discussion of the legs of the “journey” and Maharaj’s Plan “A” for attaining freedom from the symptoms of the Ultimate Sickness, which he abandoned; a discussion of Maharaj’s Plan “B” for attaining freedom from the symptoms of the Ultimate Sickness, which he abandoned; and a discussion of Maharaj’s Plan “C” for attaining freedom from the symptoms of the Ultimate Sickness, which he used for the remainder of the time that he shared the revised version of the teachings after seeing it can work.

Yesterday, the three-part or three-leg metaphorical “journey” was discussed, showing this series of events:

1. Consciousness moves from the source (the universal pool of conscious-energy, a.k.a., “The Absolute”) and is manifested in the frame or space or construct that is called “a composite unity.” After that “coming in” stage, the consciousness is soon exposed to programming, conditioning, acculturation, domestication, brainwashing, and indoctrination, resulting in widespread ignorance and insanity

2. Among seekers who find someone who can point out the exact steps of “the path” by which they can follow Maharaj’s advice (“ . . . You should go back, reverse, to the source” and “Follow the same path by which you came”) they might reach a state of “Realization.”

“Realization” is nothing more than realizing that – by the age of six or so - programming, conditioning, acculturation, domestication, brainwashing, and indoctrination led to the assumption of personality identifications which led, in turn, to

(a) being driven by the hidden, subconscious agendas and fears and desires of those assumed personas

and by

(b) the self-destructive motives of a variety of personality types (which usually function at the six-year-old level when most were adopted)

 and

(c) which, in turn, resulted in widespread ignorance and insanity

and

(d) the inability to make conscious choices

and

(e) an incapacity for differentiating true from false.

3. If persons see the results of all of those early influences; and if they see the subsequent ignorance and insanity which result when assumed personality identifications subconsciously determine every thought and every word and every action; and if they then reject belief in all of the false information and knowledge that was passed down to them;

and if they see that the knowledge they have such pride in really amounts to nothing more than learned ignorance; and if seeing that allows them to be rid of the influence of personalities and a mind filled with insane beliefs that are supported not by factual evidence but by blind faith;

and if they then reject all of those beliefs as well, then sanity might well be restored; then only can Reality (that is, the Reality of truth, logic, reason, wisdom, clear seeing, and an ability to differentiate true from false) be overlaid on the remainder of the relative existence (on the temporary relative realities which a composite unity can experience) and can thereafter enjoy the periods of bliss and pleasure which a sane and logical and reasonable relative existence can afford.

As for those periods which are devoid of bliss and pleasure, then wisdom and clear-seeing and proper perspective will allow those to be transitioned with far less chaos and drama and without the distorted view of them which personality identifications can foster.

This was also shared yesterday:

It is the failure to understand this “coming back in” stage of the “journey” which leaves many seekers “out there”; “out of it”; lost in the THAT alone; building castles ion the air and then moving into them mentally; living in “Foo Foo Land”; playing the role of “The Spiritual Giant”; being out touch with the realities of the relative existence; being driven to try to escape and avoid and dodge and evade and circumvent and duck and elude and avert; deluded into thinking that the search and spiritual doing and spiritual going and zooming must last for the entire manifestation; and – therefore - missing out on all of the pleasures and bliss which the AM-ness can offer if one moves through this IS-ness with sanity and wisdom and logic and reason

and

If Reality is overlaid on reality, that is, understanding and awareness and sanity and logic and reason will manifest throughout the remainder of the relative manifestation because the dual-mindedness that leads persons to “be unstable in all ways” has ended when mindedness (or “mind-full-ness”) ended.

If one crosses the path of a so-called “teacher of non-duality” (that is, one who seems to understand the roots of the problems experienced by humanity, as explained above) then one might assume that such a teacher is aware of the solution for humanity’s problems.

Such is not the case. Unfortunately, there seems always to remain a scientific process which must be conducted in order to find the solution to any problem, even after its root causes and consequences have been determined.

For example, Thomas Edison experienced 1,000 unsuccessful attempts at inventing the light bulb before he finally found the proper solution and finally succeeded.

From 1896 until 1903, the Wright Brothers experienced innumerable failures before finally coming up with a plane that could fly (if only for a short time and short distance at first).

Van Gogh produced over 800 oil paintings and over 700 drawings but only sold one painting during his lifetime. His “genius” was only appreciated after his demise.

That same pattern happened here, and that same pattern was also followed by Maruti Shivrampant Kambli, recognized more often by the name Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj.

He became aware of a widespread illness called “The Ultimate Sickness.” He knew that the effect of the Ultimate Sickness on the masses all around the globe was that it led to their being driven by ignorance and insanity, rendering them unable to see clearly, unable to differentiate between true and false, unable to feel any sense of wholeness rather than feeling shattered and in pieces, unable to feel any sense Oneness with all, unable to avoid chaos, unable to avoid the instability of dual-mindedness, and unable to perceive anything clearly.

So next, the discussion will move to Maharaj’s Plan “A” for attaining freedom from the symptoms of the Ultimate Sickness.

Being led by a willingness to assist those suffering from the Ultimate Sickness, he set about the process of trying to find the Ultimate Medicine. He was led early on to believe that religion (or a religious / non-dual combination message) might be able to address the Sickness. That could be called Maharaj’s Plan “A.” His teacher suggested that he offer both AM and PM sessions in his home and that the sessions follow a format using traditional bhajans (as a “hook” or “bait”) to attract those interested in Hinduism but to then inject non-dual messages as well.

He tried that method for years, without success.

Later, following the 1973 publication of I AM THAT - an English translation of his earlier talks - worldwide recognition came and brought many seekers, especially from North America and Europe.

Thus, Maharaj did not actually decide that “Plan A” was not working and that he was, therefore, going to try “Plan B.” As with “Plan A” initially and with “Plan B” later, he was influenced by the interests of his audience to focus first on a religious or religious / non-dual method of treatment for the Ultimate Sickness and later on a spiritual method of treatment for the Ultimate Sickness.

Only years later would he allow the inner resource / the inner guru - in combination with decades of trying one method and then another - to guide him to consciously shift to “Plan C” and then stay with that plan until the end (in spite of what his audience might have preferred to hear).

To be continued.

A DAILY CONSIDERATION FOR YOU

[You may scroll down to "Section Four" to find how to receive up to five, free eBooks which deal with a variety of non-dual topics]

F.: Yesterday, this was announced:

Coming up will be a discussion of the legs of the “journey” and Maharaj’s Plan “A” for attaining freedom from the symptoms of the Ultimate Sickness, which he abandoned after seeing it did not work; a discussion of Maharaj’s Plan “B” for attaining freedom from the symptoms of the Ultimate Sickness, which he abandoned after seeing it did not work; and a discussion of Maharaj’s Plan “C” for attaining freedom from the symptoms of the Ultimate Sickness, which he used for the remainder of the times that he shared the revised version of the teachings after seeing it can work.

Here, the “journey” is discussed metaphorically as a three-part or three-leg journey (with a fourth leg at "the end").

LEG ONE

The first leg involved the seven-step movement from the source to the manifestation of the conscious-energy in the frame or space or construct that is called “a composite unity” for the sake of discussion. (Maharaj: “In order to manifest itself, the consciousness needs a frame, a particular construct in which it can appear.”) Leg one is the original “coming in” stage when the consciousness manifested and was soon blocked off from seeking truth by faulty and warped programming, conditioning, acculturation, domestication, brainwashing, and indoctrination, resulting in the widespread ignorance and insanity displayed by the masses.

LEG TWO
The second leg involves going back - reversing to the source - by following the seven-step “path” by which the consciousness originally manifested. It was the “second leg” which Maharaj referenced as the “going back out” phase. He advised those ready for the second “leg” of the "journey" thusly: “ . . . You should go back, reverse, to the source” and “Follow the same path by which you came.”

LEG THREE

The third leg is the part of the overall “journey” whereby there is a “moving back” to the relative state after having Realized by following the same path by which you came originally (except the return “trip” happens without any blocking of the pure consciousness because there is none of the programming and conditioning and domestication and acculturation and brainwashing and indoctrination that the consciousness was subjected to by sleepwalkers and sleeptalkers during the first leg along which the conscious-energy first came).

THE REASON "THE SUPER RELIGIOUS ONES," "THE SPIRITUAL GIANTS," AND "THE SUPER SEEKERS" NEVER FINISH THE "JOURNEY," REAP THE BENEFITS OF SANITY AND WISDOM, AND THEN JUST RELAX AND ENJOY THE AM-NESS
It is the failure to understand this “coming back in” stage of the “journey” which leaves many seekers “out there”; “out of it”; lost in the THAT alone; building castles in the air and then moving into them mentally; living in “Foo Foo Land”; playing the role of “The Spiritual Giant”; being out touch with the realities of the relative existence; being driven to try to escape and avoid and dodge and evade and circumvent and duck and elude and avert; being deluded into thinking that the search and spiritual doing and spiritual going and spiritual zooming are all-important and must last for the entire manifestation; and – therefore - missing out on all of the pleasures and bliss which the AM-ness can offer if one moves through this IS-ness with sanity and wisdom and logic and reason.

“Leg three” here involves the “coming back in” process after one is freed from belief in all false identifications - and all other beliefs as well - and is freed of all ignorance and insanity via Realization and then "comes back in" to the relative . . . to reality, so to speak. That “coming back in” differs from the initial “coming in” stage because - on leg three - the coming back in happens without the programming, conditioning, acculturation, domestication, brainwashing, and indoctrination which happened during leg one.

Then, Reality is overlaid on reality. That is, understanding and awareness and sanity and logic and reason will manifest throughout the remainder of the relative manifestation because the dual-mindedness that leads persons to “be unstable in all ways” ends when mindedness end via the Realization process.

At that point, Reality is overlaid on reality. The removal via Realization of

(1) the blockages and the removal of

(2) the accumulation of "knowledge" (which is really nothing more than learned ignorance) and the removal of

(3) the accumulation of insane and erroneous beliefs that were stored away in a "mind"

allows the remainder of the manifestation to happen without the burdensome handicaps that were accumulated during the original "coming in" when the first leg of the "journey" happened.

LEG FOUR

NOTE: The fourth leg discussed here is the part of the “journey” that happens after mahasamadhi is taken, allowing the three parts of the composite unity that had "come together" to finally "come apart" - as dictated by the Second Law of Thermodynamics;

therefore, after the taking of mahasamadhi, the elements will return to the universal pool of elements, the air will return to the universal pool of air, and the conscious-energy will return to the universal pool of energy known as “The Absolute.”

It is "there" in that "absolute" (that is "pure" or "unadulterated") field of conscious-energy where there is no longer any manifested consciousness that can be “conscious-of”;

where there is no “one” to know anything or to be aware of anything (including some special self, some Special Self, or some Supreme This or That”);

where awareness might be available to be pulled once more into another sequence of cycling from (a) the unmanifested awareness into (b) the manifested consciousness with a capacity for conscious-of-ness to (c) the awareness that has no capacity to be aware of anything and no capacity to be conscious of anything either;

or, where the awareness-that-is-not-aware-of remains eternally, never again being pulled back into the cycling process which had allowed the originally unmanifested awareness to manifest as consciousness during the first leg of the "journey."

The invitation is to understand THAT for the sole purpose of restoring total freedom and total sanity (which can only result if one is totally free of all of the effects of programming and conditioning and domestication and acculturation and brainwashing and indoctrination).

That purging, in turn, will allow the remainder of the AM-ness to happen in a way that is not driven by the hidden agendas of assigned or assumed personalities; in a way that is not marked and marred by what Maharaj called the “ignorance, stupidity, and insanity” that are among the key symptoms of the Ultimate Sickness; and in a way that unfolds naturally and spontaneously.

Then, abidance can happen in a Nisargan, natural, fashion. The following pointers come from the eBook below entitled "WHY NISARGA YOGA in addition to the Advaita Teachings?"

“Often using present experiences as data or examples, the Direct Path Method deconstructs the existing body of presumptions, the belief systems, and the psychological structures—all of which make persons feel separate, vulnerable, and cut off from reality.

“[NOTE: What persons call 'problems' all arise via the warped consciousness, the bogus 'mind,' the ego-states assumed as identities by persons, and the personality disorders that result; therefore, the teacher that uses the Direct Path Method must have some advanced understanding of the principles of psychology. Recall, the point has been offered that – in the end - Maharaj was a 'Master of Psychology' after having rejected the earlier roles of being a 'Religious Master' and a 'Spiritual Master.']”

Also from that eBook:

“When the illogical, unreasonable, and irrational nature of psychological structures are held up to the light of awareness for a seeker that is capable of being logical and reasonable and rational, the psychological structures peacefully dissolve"

and

"An awakening happens that is marked by sweetness, by an immediacy, and by a gapless clarity which is awareness itself. And quite often, laughter accompanies 'the peripetia' - that seeing of the truth that others have seen but that the seeker only now sees.”

However, “What the relative existence will be like while abiding in a nisargan / natural manner will appear to be very strange to those who are trying to follow a knowledge path, a worship path, an action path, or a service path. So it is. Those paths are available for discussion elsewhere, not here.” Why?

Because here, the “end game” is abiding naturally and sanely and reasonably and logically and spontaneously, not unnaturally and not supernaturally. It is about Realizing, getting into touch with reality, and then relaxing and taking it easy.

To be continued.

SECTION FOUR:
FIVE FREE eBOOKS
(Compliments of Andy Gugar, Jr.)

The following eBooks are available without charge for you or for friends

I.

"GOOD vs. EVIL?" or "IGNORANCE, STUPIDITY, and INSANITY?"

The content of this eBook deals with one of the most common but erroneous beliefs that the non-Realized masses cling to and which they will fight about (and even kill over), namely, that there is a planet-wide duel going on between “the forces of good and evil” in the universe.

Maharaj said of each that visited his Bombay loft, “Only that person will visit this place whose virtue and sin have come to an end.” He also said that the problems of humankind are problems associated with the Ultimate Sickness and that three of the key traits of the Ultimate Sickness are "ignorance, stupidity, and insanity."

To that end, either (1) the ancient view is spot on: that the "ills of the planet" are rooted in evil people, in people not being religious enough or spiritual enough, and are caused solely by bad morality; or, (2) the "ills of the planet" are rooted in ignorance, stupidity and insanity and "being good" or "being moral" does not put an end to ignorance, does not eliminate stupidity, and does not treat insanity in any way.

II.

"THE VISION"

Comments regarding the free eBook entitled “THE VISION”:

“My thanks to you and Andy.” – Andrew “Mac” McMaster

“Thanks so much for the book! And, by the way, it is brilliant and the most effective pointing that you have done. It has served to help clear the remaining blockages.” – Stan Cross

“Greatly appreciate having “THE VISION” added to my Henderson resource library that is situated on the right side of my bed for easy access! Eternally grateful for what was received and what was given.” – Robert Rigby

‘THE VISION’ is such a well-written, condensed version of the Nisarga Yoga approach to understanding and enjoying Reality that I feel it can serve as a must-read ‘meditation guide’ for all earnest seekers.” – Andy Gugar, Jr.

 III.

While in South Africa in 2011, I was introduced to A Primate’s Memoir (2002) by Dr. Robert Maurice Sapolsky. Sapolsky is an American neuroendocrinologist; a professor of biology, neuroscience, and neurosurgery at Stanford University; a researcher; an author; and a Research Associate at the National Museums of Kenya.

A Primate’s Memoir (which documents Sapolsky’s years in Africa while studying baboons), was recommended because there is much that a non-dualist or Advaitin or Nisargan can relate to by comparing and contrasting what Sapolsky reveals about the way certain troops of baboons live in Africa with the way that humans abide all around the globe. The book also portrays an unconventional way of studying neurophysiology to determine the effects of stress on life expectancy. (And the reduction or elimination of stress among humans is one of the aims of the non-dual understanding.)

Now Sapolsky’s recent findings are offered in a documentary film entitled “Stress: Portrait of a Killer.” [The 56-minute film is available on YouTube in many countries.]

This 152-page eBook catalogues the common, non-dual message shared by Sapolsky and Maharaj and reveals the ways that Sapolsky’s scientific research supports the non-dual pointers offered by Maharaj.

In “PART ONE” it will be seen that most persons on the planet are not seeking, and most will never seek, but for those who are seeking, most will face several obstacles:

Often, many do not really know WHY they are seeking. Too, many who are asked WHAT they are seeking often offer no clear-cut answer beyond the standard talk about "Realization" or "Enlightenment." For those who have come this way and have a clear notions about why they are seeking and what they are seeking, many have not yet found anyone that has shown them exactly HOW to go about the process. The content in "Part One" offers some considerations about all three.

In “Part Two” of this book, it will be seen why many criticized Maharaj for “changing his message in his later talks.” It will be seen that the changes were not about changing the message per se as much as about changing his methodology as he experimented with one version of the Ultimate Medicine after another in order to try to find an effective means for addressing the Ultimate Sickness.

Maharaj’s loft was actually more of a laboratory in a loft in Bombay (now “Mumbai”) because he undertook in that loft many experiments in his efforts to find an effective form of the Ultimate Medicine that could treat the Ultimate Sickness effectively and successfully. In fact, he would eventually have three laboratories:

He first ran . . .

** a “Religion Laboratory,” then later

** a “Spirituality Laboratory” and eventually

** a “Psychology Laboratory.”

All three will be discussed in detail in "Part Two."

"THE MOST DANGEROUS BELIEF OF ALL"

Regarding the content in this 337-page book:

“Dangerous” is a term that can only apply during the relative existence. Among the Realized, there are no beliefs about “birth” so there are no beliefs about “the danger of death” (or the danger of anything else, for that matter).

Certainly, therefore, there are no concerns about “dying,” “an afterlife,” or “receiving reward vs. punishment.” Additionally, the Realized make no judgment about suicide or the “rightness” or “wrongness” of that act.

But of those who do commit suicide, how many shoot themselves in the foot over and over until they “bleed out”? None. They shoot themselves in the head. Why? In order to try to stop the noise - to try to stop the chatter of a thousand monkeys – to stop the noisy mind which is the area that stores the ideas, notions, concepts, mind-stuff, etc. which drives them into the depths of insanity.

And what are those ideas, notions, concepts, etc. called, collectively? "Their beliefs." The irony? They are not their beliefs at all. They are the beliefs of “others” that were set in place via programming, conditioning, etc. and which persons then think are their own.

And what are those beliefs rooted in, and what reinforces those beliefs and convinces persons that they are sacred and worth fighting over and even sometimes worth dying for? Blind faith.

So how can “dangerous” have any relevance alongside an understanding which has no beliefs about birth, death, or an afterlife? It is relevant only in terms of the way that the relative unfolds. Strictly relatively speaking, there are those who move through the relative existence without being driven by what Maharaj called “ignorance and stupidity and insanity” and there are those who move through the relative existence while being driven by all three of those symptoms of the Ultimate Sickness.

Persons in the latter group who are driven by those three traits are the most likely to generate, relatively speaking, hazard / menace / chaos / danger . . . call it what you will. While the Realized give no validity to any "a" vs. "b" duality, the Realized are wise enough to stand (a) outside the tigers’ cage at a zoo rather than (b) enter into the tigers’ cage.

If a wise one were to somehow magically have the option of meeting either Gandhi or ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in a dark alley, the wise one would be interested in the beliefs of neither and would be in awe of neither but would likely choose Gandhi over Abu Bakr, based in a wise one’s tendency to seek peace rather than peril and wellbeing rather than danger.

Yet that choice would be based in sanity and wisdom rather than in fear or fright; it would be based more in a tendency to end suffering rather than a propensity for increasing suffering.

Yes, to bring an end to the fear in which one might be trapped, the non-dual teacher will gladly point out that that the rope in the dark corner of a barn is a rope rather than a snake, but the teacher will be equally as glad to point out the pending “danger” to the seeker who is about to try to pick up a snake because she or he is mistaking it for a rope.

Again, Maharaj: “The teacher does not evaluate. His sole concern is with suffering and the ending of suffering.”

The Realized understand that, in the end, those persons with the most blind-faith-based beliefs are usually going to be the ones who are least concerned about peace and the ones most likely to generate chaos and relative dangers.

The reason for offering the pointers in this book are in alignment with the same reasons that any true non-dual pointers are offered: to cast light onto the darkness; to allow those who cannot see to finally see; to provide a method by which those who cannot differentiate between the true and the false may finally do so;

to offer an effective version of the Ultimate Medicine in order to alleviate the ignorance-and-insanity-induced-suffering which results from the Ultimate Sickness; and thus to facilitate the opportunity for those seeking peace and light and True Love to succeed in their quest.

 To that end, best regards.

SECTION FIVE:
COMPARE YOUR "JOURNEY" AND SEE IF YOU'VE UNDERGONE ANY EVENTS THAT PARALLEL THOSE OF MAHARAJ AND FLOYD

The "experiences" of Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj and Floyd share many parallel. Many visitors have said that they have also shared some of the same parallels. Can you relate to any of these?

1. Both grew up in very poor families

2. both moved to populated areas to seek employment opportunities

3. both exhibited business skills that led to their opening and operating many businesses and to their having a large number of employees working for them

4. both succeeded financially

5. both became attached to accumulating

6. both married and had a family

7. both initially tried to address the Ultimate Sickness with religious teachings but realized that did not work, so both tried to address the Ultimate Sickness with spirituality, only to see eventually that "being spiritual" did not cure the Ultimate Sickness either

8. both then realized that the main problems of humanity center in the mind so both turned to the sharing of psychology and scientific-and-fact-based pointers to free persons of the effects of programming, conditioning, acculturation, domestication, brainwashing and indoctrination

9. both had highly religious wives who were quite displeased with the shift away from religion

10. both had grown to feel empty in spite of all of their "spiritual seeking" and in spite of all of their accumulated "spiritual knowledge"

11. both began to de-accumulate after both saw that they could survive quite well on a fraction of the income they had been making

12. both had wives who were unhappy when the de-accumulation stage was entered and both had wives who became unhappy about their husbands' focus on non-duality and who blamed their unhappiness on no longer having a religious husband (and no longer having a husband who brought in huge sums of money)

13. both eventually came to see that the religious and spiritual states were also ego-states, and both saw that there are far more steps on the "path" to complete after reaching the religious and spiritual steps and after playing those roles which are the third of seven steps on the entire "path"

14. both "lost" their wives (one via "death," the other through divorce);

15. both accelerated their seeking

16. both entered into the "forest dweller stage"

17. both Realized

18. both began to de-accumulate even more

19. both began sharing the teachings

20. for years, both offered satsang

21. both saw that most who hear the teachings are still not going to understand

22. both, therefore, offered pointers without expectation, without attachment to outcome, and without any concern about the way that persons react to hearing Truth

23. both suggested that seekers focus on the exact, step-wise "path

24. both made the decision that whatever amount of the relative existence remains shall be spent in sharing the teachings in the way that has been seen to be the most effective method: not suggesting that there are not enough religious persons; not suggesting that the Ultimate Sickness is caused by being "spiritually-unfit"; but by seeing that the problem centers in the mind (which must come to an end, which it will the moment all beliefs are abandoned)

Looking back over the list of those that have truly received the understanding, it is seen that Robert R. read all of the books, then took the online Advaita course and then completed some face-to-face Skype sessions to receive the final clarifications required. It was seen that Mac read all of the books, completed the online course, and then attended a retreat where he was guided through the seven steps. Mac said that the online course work inspired him to attend the retreat in order to be able to receive the final "pieces." It was seen that Andy Gugar, Jr. read all of the books, then came here for a retreat and was taken through the seven steps in order, and then returned once more for the final clarifications required. After reviewing the shifts that happened with him after attending two retreats, he reaffirmed this past week his commitment to helping spread the non-duality, nisarga understanding as presented here.
