An Advaita Vedanta realization, enlightenment, nisarga yoga site discussing non-duality (nonduality), your original nature, and dwelling in the natural state as revealed by Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj.

FROM A SITE VISITOR: It sounds like Advaita Vedanta (or you) minimize things or deny the effects of things. I look at my life and know the effects of things that have happened and know that I deserve more than I’ve gotten. Helen

F.: Hello, Helen. Not quite sure how you even found an Advaita site. Since you have the answers and seem not be to seeking anything offered here, the response is not as much for you as it is for those that visit the site and are seeking answers.

Nisarga yoga offers an invitation to live simply and naturally. The natural-living deer neither minimizes nor maximizes. The deer does not “look at its life.” The deer does not suffer the mental or emotional effects of things misperceived since it has no “mind” with which to label the happenings during the manifestation as “bad” or “good.”

The deer, being mindless, has no concepts about a “good life” or a “bad life.” It has no concepts about "entitlement" and "deserving." It has no concepts about “more” or “less.”

To live as naturally and spontaneously and peacefully as the deer, the consciousness must function spontaneously while the no-concept, non-duality reality unfolds like a play upon a stage.

Understand that all actions are preceded by words, and all words are preceded by thoughts/beliefs. If persons become free of their belief in dualistic concepts, they could not use words to complain about subjects steeped in the untruth of duality.

It would not be a matter of denial or minimization; instead, it simply could not be a false belief that is considered to be true. (No thoughts = no words = no thought-generated actions or misery or emotional intoxication.) All misery and suffering either (1) starts with a thought and is perpetuated by thoughts and words or (2) end when all dualistic thoughts end.

With that which is a product of (a) plant food and (b) a chemical interaction as a result of (c) an act of friction involving a male and a female (driven by passion and sex drive and instinct), wherefore any question about “deserving more than you got?”

WHO thinks she or he is limited to the body and the “mind” and the personality? WHO are the supposed ego-states that feel hurt or interfered with or threatened or slighted or deserving of more?

By discarding the fictitious WHO’s that persons think they are, they might become aware of THAT Which They Truly Are. If that happens, then no false ego-states remain to express duality-based complaints. Thereafter, the manifestation plays out automatically and spontaneously and naturally and contentedly.

Then, all unfolds from a position of neutrality. Deer function with that degree of neutrality and freedom and peace on a daily basis. So do birds and snakes and grass and fish and trees and all manifestations of energy…all except most humans.

Know what humans think they have that separates them from those forms, and see what humans believe it is that makes them “nobler” or “better” or “different,” and you will find that which must be discarded if you would dwell in the natural state. Please enter in the silence of contemplation.

An Advaita Vedanta realization, enlightenment, nisarga yoga site discussing non-duality (nonduality), your original nature, and dwelling in the natural state as revealed by Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj.

FROM A SITE VISITOR: How’s this for duality: there are times I read your blog and feel great inside. Then there are times I read your blog and feel horrible inside. I know what you’ll say, and I know you are really pointing us toward the truth, yet there is a struggle. I read a friend’s copy of From the I to the Absolute and finally “got” a lot of it, but not all. That’s why sometimes it seems so clear that there is no “Paul,” but after 30+ years of being trained to think in “mass-think” and talk by using the “mass-speak” language, I find that on occasion I want to help others. I want to have a purpose. I want to be loved. I want to love. Then I shift, and it is all that fluctuating that I want to stop. Comments? Paul

F.: Hello Paul. Thank you for the e-mail. You have transitioned beyond the wet charcoal stage, you have sailed to some degree beyond the dry charcoal stage, and you are nearing the gunpowder stage.

The elements for understanding have almost all come together for you, so the suggestion is that you merely keep dancing the dance, taking this all as entertainment, and focusing on key pointers in the silence; then, the final understanding will likely explode into awareness.

No comment will be offered on the duality you mention—not necessary at all, since You know. As for “reading a friend’s copy” of the book, never, ever do that. Buy your own copy. [Humor.]

As for those things that you occasionally want, how about this: how about if helping happens in a relative sense without the presence of “The Helper”? How about if purposefulness happens in a relative sense without any “Person with Purpose?” How about if You love without the presence of any ego-state called “The Lover” (the case that happens when the True Self engages in Pure Witnessing)?

As for “being loved,” You Are, by every speck of consciousness that knows the Oneness. Will “Paul” meet some “one” who can dance the relative dance with him someday? Maybe. Maybe not.

Why not also allow what happens in that regard, or what does not happen in that regard, to be witnessed from a position of neutrality, and thus freedom? Then only will the “shifting” you mentioned come to an end. Again, thank you for the e-mail. Please enter in the silence of contemplation.

An Advaita Vedanta realization, enlightenment, nisarga yoga site discussing non-duality (nonduality), your original nature, and dwelling in the natural state as revealed by Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj.

FROM A SITE VISITOR: Aren't "You" seeing realized and non-realized persons? Is this not duality? Please explain. Raja

F.: There is no duality. There is the real and the imagined-to-be-real. Be free of delusion and then it will be understood that only the oneness is.

To believe that one can see realized and non-realized persons shows the degree of currently-unavailable logic, tantamount to saying:

“My parents wanted one boy and one girl but they only had me…a male; therefore, our family is made up of four persons: two parents, one male, and then the female that does not exist. Surely when you look at us, you are seeing the ones who are here as well as the one that is not.”

Again, there are no persons. There are specks of consciousness that are impure or pure…that are blocked or not blocked and thus either believing that illusions are real or understanding Truth.

FROM “ANONYMOUS”: Just found your site and like it. What did Sri Nisargadatta means “you are not in the world the world is in you? If we are not in the world, how can we ever change it for the better.

F.: It is suggested that you visit the archives and focus for now on postings that deal with body identification. That is your starting point.

As for the quote from Maharaj, you will understand those words if you reach the second step of the “journey” to Realization, namely, that your “mind” is the storehouse of false concepts and what you see as “the world” is nothing more than a set of misperceptions. (See yesterday’s post.)

There is no “you” that is “in the world.” There is the manifested consciousness which either (a) sees all in a distorted fashion or which (b) witnesses in a subject-object fashion or which (c) engages in Pure Witnessing.

That which you take to be “the world” is a figment of the distortions of the “mind,” so that “world” is only “in you”—in your “mind.”

Finally, you will not change the world because there is no world to change. Instead, change the attachment you have to “the mind” and its dualistic concepts by being rid of that “mind” completely.

You are invited to begin by questioning every belief you assume to be true but which you have accepted as truth without reservation and without investigation. Please enter the silence of contemplation.

MISTAKING THE DAWN FOR HIGH NOON

An Advaita Vedanta realization, enlightenment, nisarga yoga site discussing non-duality (nonduality), your original nature, and dwelling in the natural state as taught by Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj.

FROM A SITE VISITOR: I have a basic question. I am aware that i exist, this happens only in the relative, but u said everything in relative is "false". And u again said the realization should happen here and now in the relative. Then how can the relative (false) realize the truth or can even point towards truth. Please explain.

And If I do realize, how do I know it. And how do you know that I am not realized currently. Raja

F.: Your question last week received no response because you again wanted to play a game involving speculation and setting up imaginary, what-if scenarios dealing with relative circumstances. These inquiries, however, will be addressed.

First, find what is false about your claim that you are aware that you exist. While there may be no WHO involved with that claim, most of your past e-mails have certainly revealed a belief that some WHO called “Raja” exists. That is what is false.

Again, persons who take the relative to be real will look at what is called “a steel beam” and claim that it really is a steel beam because they have been taught to accept and apply that label. That is false. They will also claim that what is called “a wooden board” is indeed a wooden board. That is also false.

To study each under an electron microscope is to see that they are the same thing (not-two); specifically, what would be seen is a swirling mass of atoms. Further enlargement will reveal that the atoms are composed of subatomic particles called “electrons” and “protons” and “neutrons.” [That was explained to you in a posting from December of 2007, was it not?]

The relative is about falsely differentiating as a result of distorted perceptions. If You Realize the oneness, the not-twoness, you would know that there is no differentiation and that all appearances of supposed differentiation result from varying vibrational rates of the energy involved. It is those appearances, and the belief that appearances are real, that is false.

If you cannot grasp the falsehood involved with the relative, can you at least grasp the fact that nothing in the relative is perceived as it truly is by the non-Realized?

Next, “the relative (false)” does not realize the truth. The consciousness—warped or blocked by the processes of programming, conditioning, enculturation, and domestication—cannot differentiate true from false. If one follows the Advaita “path” and finds all that is false and understands that it is all false, then the Truth within will be revealed.

Truth is revealed via the “inner resource” or the “inner guru” after the consciousness is re-purified or unblocked, not via the false concepts that are taught and learned during the manifestation.

As for what you know and do not know, four stages have been noted by some teachers:

Stage One: Persons and seekers alike do not understand, but they do not even know that they do not understand. [This group includes the masses as well as those assuming the persona of “a religious one” or “a spiritual one.” They mistake the dawn for high noon but believe that they are fully in the light…fully enlightened.]

Stage Two: Seekers do not understand but realize that they do not understand. [Here begins a reassessment of all beliefs that had been previously accepted without question.]

Stage Three: Seekers understand but do not yet realize that they understand. [Here, the readiness manifests and seekers become willing to take all seven steps on the “journey” that will shift them from body identification to Full Realization.]

Stage Four: Concepts dealing with “seekers” and “seeking” and “persons with attributes” all disappear as the consciousness understands and knows that it understands.

Which stage are you in, as revealed by your questions and comments? The Realized who read your words know exactly, but you do not yet know. A thorough set of responses to your many questions was offered in December 2007. The invitation was for you to take those responses into the quiet and consider each response until your belief in all concepts and all duality ends.

That same invitation is extended again with these words: Please enter the silence of contemplation.
