FROM A SITE VISITOR: I finally understand your pointer that even if arms and legs and organs are ‘lost’ I Am still Me. But now, how to be free of my racing mind, once and for all?

F.: (Continued from yesterday) But Advaitin satsang is not a process by which seekers are invited to toss their concepts into a mortar and to use the “mind” to pulverize ideas as if “the mind” were a pestle.

The only effective pestle that can be used for that task is the pure consciousness, so the “Catch-22” is this:

(1) Persons want to use the “mind” to “heal the mind” or to “attain peace of mind.”

(2) That cannot be done. Just as the body’s cancer was treated by removing the cancer rather than by introducing more cancer, so the sickness of “mind” infestation is treated by removing its contaminants rather than by introducing more contaminants.

Only by discarding the concepts of the “mind” (which inhibit the natural functioning of pure consciousness) can the pure consciousness be aware of itSelf. In the process, the unreasonable, insane, and illogical thoughts, words and deeds that were being generated via the “mind” will cease.

(3) Yet “the Catch” is that it is the presence of the “mind” which generates untrue thoughts and fallacious words and self-absorbed deeds that block tapping into the pure consciousness. There’s the rub.

Thus, it should be seen that there is only one course of “treatment” for what ails the non-Realized: all of the misconceptions and erroneous beliefs which are blocking access to the pure consciousness must be removed before the pure consciousness can be accessed.

The reason that most find these teachings “so difficult” or “so hard to grasp” is because the very tool that must be used to dig down and uncover that which they are seeking is…that same tool, which is hidden and being sought! The shovel that allows one to dig through the dirt is the very object that is actually buried beneath the dirt.

Rather than believing that you can simply reach out and pick up that which is buried, you must realize that the dirt that is hiding the shovel must first be removed. Then, the irony is this: once you remove all of the dirt and grasp the shovel, you no longer need to dig.

The moment in which you find the shovel becomes the very moment in which you no longer need a shovel to work with. You were seeking Truth? You have found it! Eureka indeed.

The task is done. It only involved finding the shovel that was blocked from being witnessed by all that dirt...by all those pollutants and impurities that were the content of the “mind.” Please enter the silence of contemplation. (To be continued)
