F.: "The universe decided his time was up," said the sleepwalker / sleeptalker when that speck called "Mark" took mahasamadhi five months ago. Really?
Many Eastern teachers have long included in their discussions references to the "the universe" and its part in all happenings. Now, though, talk of the universe has been distorted by those who do not understand causation to even the slightest degree;
therefore, the "role of the universe" is now talked about with such ignorance and misunderstanding (all having arisen from supernatural / "spiritual" / magical thinking) that many teachings - rather than eliminating distortions - have become the compost that is fertilizing a new wave of spiritual nonsense.
The failure to understand "cause and effect" and to assign to "the universe" either blame or responsibility for everything that happens in any given, specific case has resulted in the relative being marked by an entirely new set of faulty concepts, including widespread confusion about:
responsibility; denial; destiny; fate; ability; choice vs. no choice; and, most significantly, immediate roots and reasons vs. the eternal chain of causation; thus, one can hear more and more frequently statements that evidence magical thinking and that reinforce ignorance, such as, "the universe decided his time was up."
Today, in both the East and the West, there is as much nonsensical talk among those calling themselves "spiritual" (when they talk about "the universe," for example) as there is among those calling themselves "religious" (when they talk about "the resurrection of the body" or "the return of Christ in this lifetime," for example).
Those persons who have been exposed to, and who have adopted the talk of, certain self-proclaimed "Spiritual Speakers" (who are actually fixated at what Maharaj called the level of "kindergarten spirituality") have coined or co-opted certain terms that form "the jargon of spirituality-induced, magical thinking."
One of the favorite terms in their spiritual jargon is "the universe," often used to refer to some non-personal entity or non-personal thing as if it were personal; furthermore, they can find support for their belief / concept when they turn to what some take to be their "holy" texts, including some lines in texts from the East:
That in whom reside all beings and who resides in all beings, who is the giver of grace to all, the Supreme Soul of the universe, the limitless being - I am that. Amritbindu Upanishad
[Now wait a minute! He's not going to go there, is he!? Yes, he / it / this speck, is.]
The nisarga yoga can guide one from identification with the "I" to the Absolute, but at the end point on the Direct Path, when traveled via the nisarga yoga, can lead to identification with the nothingness and then, eventually, to no identity at all.
No wonder this yoga is likely the least popular among all seekers. WHO, what ego-state, could possibly consider accepting what the ego would take to be a "downgrade" from being "the Supreme Soul" to being...nothing? "I am Supreme" and "I am Brahman" vs. "I am nothing"? Surely you jest! No contest, "Fool Floyd."
And note how the use of personal pronouns in that quote above - whom, who, who - can encourage the ignorant to accept "the universe" as being something personal (as something "Supreme" and "Omnipotent" and "Omniscient" and "Wise") that is controlling from afar every happening on the planet, right down to the most minute detail, deciding:
when the sparrow falls; who meets and who does not meet; who marries and who does not; who marries whom; who lives; who dies; who has a "close call" but survives (a.k.a., "a miracle," to use the jargon of the sleeptalkers); who does not survive; exactly when - at what moment or second in time - the non-survivors fail to survive; and who decided that "Mark's time was up."
Become trapped in such magical thinking, in such kindergarten level spirituality, and in such ignorance, then one can come up with the same degree of nonsense as Stevie Wonder did when at a recent eulogy for Michael Jackson he said: "And I do know that as much as we may feel...that we need Michael with us, God must have needed him more."
So that entity that is taken to be a personal, all-powerful God has...needs? He killed Michael because he had a need for Michael? And as steeped in religious dogma as that comment was, many of those persons who have upgraded themselves from "not religious but spiritual instead" would explain that "the universe decided his time was up."
So "God" or "the universe" was the cause of his death. Not drug abuse? Not medical incompetence? Not the entire chain of events that brought him to that point? No, it was "God" or "the universe." And the more that such nonsense is spoken on public or private stages, the more ignorance will be breed.
Similarly, Mark's "demise" was not orchestrated by a "God with an overall plan" or "a universe with a specific purpose." The immediate cause is far less spiritual than the lofty explanations that are based in magical thinking.
He died because he smoked three and four packs of cigarettes a day for years after ignoring the cautions from the doctors who warned him time and again that he was weakening his arteries and that there would eventually be physical - even fatal - consequences. After weakening his arteries for years, he took a blood pressure-elevating drug that caused a weakened artery to explode. Want to move farther back along a chain of causation?
Okay, the demise also came after I warned him of the consequences of continuing to work with the clients he was working with though he showed no discernible ability to avoid becoming emotionally-intoxicated and frustrated and irritable and anxious and then driven to use nicotine all day long to try to treat his anxiety. Need to go farther back along the chain?
Even when several excellent, far-less-stressful employment opportunities were offered, the more stressful work continued because that speck was being driven by the agendas of the personas of "The Super Achiever" and "The Super Helper" and "The Super Savior" and, as one woman labeled him, "The Super Rock Star of Recovery."
Need to go farther back for cause? Okay. Those personas came about as a result of (1) being raised in a dysfunctional home that generated the addictive personality disorder and as a result of (2) all of the happenings that happened as a result of the formation of personality in the dysfunctional way that all personality is formed. "Go back even farther," you say?
Well, it is a fact that that home came about because of grandparents...because of generations of breeding...because of the evolution of the planet that allowed human-like beings to manifest...because of the explosion that began the process of expansion that this universe is still undergoing...because of the manifestation in a vacuum of a single atom...and because of all that happened even prior to that and the formation of this universe.
Reach that point on the causation chain and you can understand what the Easterners spoke of when they talked of "the universe's role" in any happenings now: there was never the intention to suggest that the universe functions as a personal (or a somehow personal / impersonal) "Supreme, All-Knowing, All-Powerful, All-Controlling, Plan-Creating-and-Operating Being or Soul or Intelligence" which directly intervened in that specific case and triggered the final series of events that led to that - or any other - instance of mahasamadhi.
"The universe decided to kill Mark" is as much fiction-based nonsense (dare it be said, "as much fiction-based BS"?) as "God decided to kill Michael because God needed him."
Louise noted yesterday that there is as much ignorance being expressed nowadays as there was when the talk among the masses was about "the earth being flat," and the parent whose child just died should find little solace in such comments as the one I heard spoken under that very circumstance: "Don't mourn - God needed another little angel and He took her."
All so very lofty, yes? All so religiously or spiritually intellectual, yes? All so very all-knowing and all-wise, yes? And all so ignorantly-focused on single causation rather than on understanding that the cause of all is all (though the most immediate causes can also be understood by those not trapped in magical thinking).
There has been almost no shift at all from the ignorance-based thinking and talking of the masses during "The Dark Ages" to the current religion-or-spirituality-based magical thinking that dominates the masses and their talk-while-sleeping brand of mind-speak that is so prevalent nowadays.

Please enter the silence of contemplation. (To be continued)
Seven years ago, a novel in a new genre entitled The Twice-Stolen Necklace Murders, was published. It offers the non-duality message by way of a mystery-adventure novel. For those years when my published held the rights to the work, copies sold through the major online dealers such as Amazon for anywhere between US$14.00 used and US$148.72 new. The author's take: $1.92, though often not paid at all. Now, the author's exclusive rights have been regained so the book is now being made available in ebook form so that it will be accessible and affordable to seekers around the globe.
WHAT READERS HAVE HAD TO SAY ABOUT THE NON-DUALITY BASED-MYSTERY-ADVENTURE NOVEL OVER THE LAST SEVEN YEARS:
"Henderson has created an entirely new genre. This is a 'Personal Growth' and 'Self-Help' book in a mystery-romance format". ["Henderson" would not endorse the notions of "personal" growth or of a "self" helping itself, but so it is.]
From Dr. R.F. Maley, Ph.D, Professor Emeritus and former Head of the Department of Psychology, University of Houston: "Floyd Henderson's book, The Twice-Stolen Necklace Murders, is a fun read and an interesting mystery, but perhaps more importantly it serves as a vehicle for blending Eastern Philosophy and Native American Spirituality to make an intellectually challenging novel. The book's insights into both relationships and authoritarian conditioning of people in our society make it a must read, tracing the roots of narcissistic, sociopathic and psychopathic behaviors to the very core of the culture. This truly witty and politically-incorrect study of the aggressive nature of 'the American character' offers not only a diagnosis but also a treatment plan, making the book an excellent supplemental reading in courses such as psychology, anthropology, philosophy, sociology and counseling."
"I had an epiphany!"
"I've read a lot of spiritual or self-improvement books that are merely expository. This book gives the reader something that is completely experiential".
"This book freed me. I was locked into a state of self-inquiry and playing 'helper' and 'savior' to others, and that was taking a toll on me that I could not see. Freedom now is freedom from those roles and from seeking to know more and from letting others 're-program' me. I'm at peace now, seeing I didn't need more knowledge and more programming but needed freedom from past programming".
"The Twice-Stolen Necklace Murders is a 'wonderful Slaughterhouse for the Sacred Cows' of this culture. It should have been opened for business years ago. I felt like I was living with the weight of the world on my shoulders, when the real burden was from carrying around all those 'cows' in my mind".
"This book showed me that I can reach Part Four in the novel, 'the Peace state', only if I give up all the things I was so proud of and that I was willing to fight about: my city, my state, my country, my leaders, my group, my religion, my beliefs (which Henderson points out were really 'their' beliefs), my parents' values, all the 'my stuff' vs. 'their stuff' he talks about. What a lesson! I can be at peace if I give up the concepts I fought for!"
"I found out why I felt empty, even when I had it all".
"As with William Shakespeare, that writer of tragedies, comedies and histories whose quotes introduce each chapter, this work uncovers the tragedy of fighting, whether personal, national, or international; the comedy of the lives lived by conditioned or programmed humans; the history of mankind's constant state of what Floyd calls 'emotional intoxication' around fears and love; and beyond all of that, the author offers a vision of an idyllic life that once was, and can be attained again, one individual at a time".
"The phrase 'You can't judge a book by its cover' has never had more relevance than when used to describe this novel. While the cover of The Twice-Stolen Necklace Murders points to the novel-within-a-novel set in Venice, Italy (and while the lovers shown on the cover do play a central role in the larger story) this work is no simple murder mystery or love story."
"The work is a no-holds-barred challenge to those who would discriminate against others with different beliefs or along racial, gender, economic, and religious (or no-religion) lines. It is a call for tolerance and peace and is a step-by-step guide for attaining such peace on an individual basis".
"At a time when more and more cases of clergy-perpetrated physical abuse are coming to light, this book at once questions the practices of modern religions while endorsing the TRUE advaitic teachings of Christ. It is a book that sympathizes with those who have been harmed at the hands of so-called religious people, not just physically but also emotionally, psychologically, and mentally. Then the book offers something hopeful for those who are yet seeking the peace that they did not, and cannot, find in the venue of the church".
"I loved the 'Novel Within the Novel' love story. For anyone who let that first love get away or who had given up on ever finding True Love, this book provides a spark of hope and is a two-fold how-to manual on love: how to break relationships and how to make relationships".
"You've heard 'It'll make you laugh, it'll make you cry', The Twice-Stolen Necklace Murders really made me laugh and made me cry."
"If you've ever said, I don't even know who I am, or if you have ever asked, What is this all about? or Where did I really come from, where am I going, and what is the meaning of all this in between? then you have a source that can give you the answer. This book is it".
"I only thought I had a social consciousness before reading this book".
"Gratefully, I'll never be the same after having read this book. I now know Who I Am, and that has set me free. Thank you".
"I thought I was buying a murder-mystery; the further I read, I realized I was reading a great love story; later, I realized I was reading as insightful a psychological-novel as I've ever read; as I moved further along, I realized that I had a book of sociology that captured the entire life-span of those of us who are 'baby-boomers'; by the end, I wasn't sure what I had read, but I knew it was something beyond anything I would ever read again".
"If freedom from abuse and relief from trauma come only after seeing abusers for what they are, after standing up to them, and after shouting, 'No!' in order to finally be free, then this work might well be the author's Declaration of Independence".

SYNOPSIS OF
THE TWICE-STOLEN NECKLACE MURDERS
THE TWICE-STOLEN NECKLACE MURDERS
(The First in the Kirk Wildman Series)
The devastation from his encounters with a group of Aryans, who stole his family, fortune, and future, finally eases after Kirk Wildman's reunion with his college sweetheart. Their Venetian holiday inspires a novella, The Bridge of Sighs, detailing love rekindled. Then, tragedy strikes again. On Kirk's ensuing journey, some find a murder-mystery, pursuing his son's killers across Europe, Africa and Belgium, exposing diamond thieves and terrorists along the way. Others discover romance, realizing with Kirk the psychology behind obstacles that destroy relationships and overcoming them to find true love. Others join Kirk's quest for peace and wholeness, transcending religion and spirituality (via Native American perspectives and Far Eastern non-duality) into Reality. Finally, some accompany Kirk on a philosophical passage, transcending pain and healing, shifting beyond the tiring games and phony images and finally settling into the perfect peace that comes after awakening to the truth of Who We Really Are.
EXCERPTS FROM THE TWICE-STOLEN NECKLACE MURDERS
KIRK WILDMAN ON . . .
KIRK WILDMAN ON . . .
Inconstancy in Relationships
She admitted that she had prayed every morning for a year that he would die. It's not right, Kirk thought, that District Attorneys will only prosecute solicitation for murder if God is NOT the one being solicited. Solicit a man to kill your husband, Go to jail. Solicit God to kill your husband, You skate. What a rip-off, huh? Compelling, also, the way things can shift: from stranger to acquaintance to friend to lover to spouse to enemy to . . . corpse, if her God, typically more available to her beck and call, had allowed her to have her way.
Applied Tolerance
. . . His lesson in Applied Tolerance came during time spent with Grandmother and his grandfather. They modeled such tolerance perfectly. The grandfather went to church every Sunday, serving as the choir director; Grandmother went into the woods every Sunday, exercising some kind of communion of her own. They never questioned the other's practice; they never challenged the other's beliefs; they never tried to change the other. They did what they did separately and felt just fine; and they did what they did together and felt just fine. Applied Tolerance. No judging. Total acceptance. Unconditional Love.
His Spiritual Quest
In his energy-consuming search for salvation, he'd been dipped, dunked, sprayed, spayed, sprinkled, and neutered; in the quest for truth, he'd been blessed, cursed, cussed, lectured, scolded, and praised; in his pursuit of Life's Meaning, he'd been communion'd, Om'd, grape-juiced, wined, ahsram'd, accepted, rejected, Mu'd, and yoga'd . . .
"Life"
Some days, the pain in the body or in the mind seems to be so great that one must rest in order to heal. On awakening, one can live in peace as if all is well. So it is with what some call 'life': PAIN, HEALING, AWAKENING, and PEACE.

The Sequel to The Twice-Stolen Necklace Murders:
THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF WARS
WHAT SOME REALIZED ADVAITINS ARE SAYING ABOUT THE SEQUEL IN THEIR UNSOLICITED REVIEWS:
Jerry Katz (Nonduality.com, Nonduality Salon, Editor of One: Essential Writings on Nonduality) said of the novel:“I think we may be seeing the emergence of the first literary nonduality novel. Not of all times, but the first one fed by the teaching of nonduality as set forth in the last ten years. That kind of fiction is going to be different from any other kind of nonduality fiction."
Dustin LindenSmith offered an excerpt from the novel on his site and said:“My old friend Jerry (Katz) has never been a fan of fiction that tries to be nondual. Too often, it's written by people who may have nondual insight, but who are terrible writers of fiction. The two don't have to be mutually exclusive, but anyone whom he'd read that had tried to meld the two had been unsuccessful. Until now, maybe. In "Issue #2800" of "The Nondual Highlights," Jerry provides an excerpt from a novel by Floyd Henderson called The Board of Directors of Wars. It's a passage of dialogue, but the portion I'm including just has one character making a little speech to another. When taken out of context like I've just done, the passage sounds a bit like the proverbial discourse between a spiritual teacher and a student. I think this speech is quite good."
In the sequel to The Twice-Stolen Necklace Murders, Realized author Kirk Wildman takes on the three sources that have always generated the highest number of dualistic concepts and relative corruption: big business, big government, and organized religion.
Using fifty years of history as a framework, the novel deals with the following:
From the 1950's through the 1990's, baby-boomers saw that many famous deaths worldwide had never received thorough investigation. Early television showed variety shows, but later TV exposed scandals in government, church, and corporations. Politicians, starlets, billionaires, and royals made news involving sex, sin, death, and murder. But what if all those deaths had been orchestrated by one group? And what if an Italian mobster on his deathbed became willing to expose the group? When Kirk Wildman travels with Marie to southern Italy to conduct 'a routine interview' with that Mob killer, they stumble blindly into the crossfire between one ready to expose a group's past, and that group's willingness to kill any who interfere with their plans to trigger World War III.
