Let It Happen With Dignity

As for Maharaj, you will find here some of his early pointers for beginners but some of his later pointers that are for seekers farther along the "path." During his last years, he said of I AM THAT: "That book and whatever was expounded at that time was only relevant for that period. I am speaking differently today" and am "emphasizing different aspects." What he offered later differed considerably from his earlier talks, making clear that the pointers in I AM THAT will take you to the midpoint of "the race" but that his final talks point the way to "the finish line."

F.: Some are aware of the dualistic challenge being faced here by the plant food body:

1. a stent - inserted to open the LAD that was blocked 95% - is said to require blood-thinning anti-coagulants for efficient functioning;

occurring simultaneously,

2. internal hemorrhaging has been happening which is said to require coagulants to address that issue.

To serve one is to do disservice to the other. That might seem to be quite the irony, for this body to be dealing with such duality, yet the body is of the relative, and all involved with the relative is dualistic. All involved with the relative is forever in a similar state of flux.

One physician (who must have earned an "F" in Bedside Manner 101) explained that the first six weeks with the stent would be "critical" even without thinners, but especially so without; thus, he cautioned that I adopt a "death watch mentality" for the next month-and-a-half and to be "especially on guard and to act promptly at the first sign of pain in the chest or neck area."

He did not know why there was no comment and no reaction except for a slight smile. But when such a long post-Realization history of allowing the abidance to happen with dignity has been the typical modus operandi, it becomes impossible to join anyone in one of his or her anxiety attacks. Sane caution? Okay. A Realized Nisargan entering into a "death watch"? Impossible.

[Remember? "Hysteria and panic on your part do not constitute a parallel crisis on my part." How would-be controllers and confirmed co-dependents hate to hear such a statement of non-attachment, even alongside obvious Love and Caring.]

Along with the scores of appreciated expressions for healing, the condition of the body here has turned the focus of several onto their own bodies - and onto the limitations and the finite nature of all such plant food bodies.

From those among them who have not already "gone ahead and died" and gotten it over with, and for those still suffering one degree or another as a result of their lingering beliefs about "life" and "death," certain questions were raised, such as:

"If it is natural for the consciousness to want to extend itself, and if you suggest we live naturally, then why not fight 'til the end?"

and

"Can the Realized commit suicide under certain circumstances?"

and

many of the other questions that the non-Realized struggle with as a result of their impossible desire for body continuity.

Maharaj addressed the issue quite adequately:

Questioner: "Is it not obligatory to live out one’s natural span of life?"

Maharaj: "Natural - spontaneously - easy - yes. But disease and suffering are not natural. There is noble virtue in unshakable endurance of whatever comes, but there is also dignity in the refusal of meaningless torture and humiliation."

"Dignity" is defined as "a composed manner or style." "Composed" is defined as "calm" or "tranquil" or "serene." During the two hospitalizations over the last several weeks, there were frequent opportunities to witness those clinging so adamantly to their desire for body continuity that they were enduring "meaningless torture and humiliation."

A ninety-three-year-old woman, angry as hell and chastising doctors and nurses alike for having postponed her lower GI procedure by a day, provided as clear an example as any of the misery that comes with body identification and body-love.

The Realized know when to play the medical game and know when to take mahasamadhi. As Maharaj implied, let whatever happens happen with dignity, with calmness, with tranquility, with serenity.

Maharaj made clear, as the end of the manifestation of that speck of conscious-energy neared, that "even this 'I-Amness' will not remain as my friend." If You allow the abidance to happen with dignity, everything else will necessarily unfold in the same fashion. If You accept the eventual taking of mahasamadhi as part of the natural cycling, then abidance can also happen with dignity and peace and serenity and calmness.
