Today's Considerations
38. [To
continue with the contrast between those that abide as their Original
Nature and those who do not (including Maharaj's "take" on the behavioral differences in the few abiding as That and the vast majority who are not) by offering excerpts for the eBook Your Original Nature]
Maharaj's "take" on the subject was that loud and noisy persons are absorbed in self, stripping them of any ability to care about the quiet or to maintain the silence or to recognize the preference of those that appreciate freedom from speech rather than freedom of speech.
At the point that tears were observed as they began to roll down the face of
the little girl discussed, there was a flash of a scene unfolding in a small
loft in Bombay / Mumbai some four decades earlier. There was a Realized speck
of consciousness that was so protective of the interests of the earnest seekers
of things natural who were in the loft that the speck in the scene was casting
a person from that room.
Maharaj's "take" on the subject was that loud and noisy persons are absorbed in self, stripping them of any ability to care about the quiet or to maintain the silence or to recognize the preference of those that appreciate freedom from speech rather than freedom of speech.
His end message always pointed toward "walking the walk" - both
spontaneously and naturally - and always pointed away from "talking the
talk" . . . or even talking, period. As he understood, and invited seekers to understand, almost
all talking is actually unnecessary talking, including the talk that comes from those who think they have "gotten it fully" but have not:
Maharaj: " . . . All talk about silence is mere noise."
Earlier there was a recounting of a little girl who was awake
enough to know that no talking is necessary; that talking - in fact - can be
most unnecessary; and that any talking would not only be disturbing the peace
but would also end the opportunity to have an "up close" moment with
Nature and things natural. The little girl was not absorbed in self; instead, she
was absorbing all that Nature and things natural had to offer to her for a few
moments.
By contrast, a woman was so unawake and unaware and unconscious and
self-absorbed that she would never even consider the possibility that talking
is not necessary and that any of her talking would not only disturb the peace but
would also end the opportunity to have an "up close" moment with
Nature and the natural.
If non-Realized, then a person will always be rendered unobservant, unawake, unaware,
unconscious, unconscious of Self, and unconscious of the Self-ness of those
considered to be "others" (who, to the self-absorbed, may as well not
even exist). Being non-Realized will leave persons so out of touch with the
"primordial cooperation" that was a trait of the Original Nature of
the consciousness manifested within bodies-cum-consciousness that their self-ish-ness
will only allow for self-focusing and will limit them to a "mindful
registration of self" (that is, will create a "mind" that is
full of - filled with - self-consciousness but no Self-Consciousness at all).
That person being cast out had come not to listen but to be noisy and loud and showy and heard; that person was unawake and unaware and unconscious and did not really have the slightest desire to be quiet and silent and unassuming and awake and aware and conscious. Such persons tossed from the loft understood nothing about the Oneness but were totally absorbed in self instead.
And as those tears ran down a young girl's cheeks (while the one whose loudness caused those tears to flow was running away, asleep and trapped in the total oblivion of her ignorance and her self-absorption), the following was seen regarding the circumstances which allowed Maharaj to guard the peace and quietness and silence of his environment in a tiny loft:
for most, those actions that happened in the loft and that were taken in order to guard the peace and quietness and silence seldom come for the majority on the planet, especially in sections of the globe where, as referenced earlier, "freedom of speech" is touted but the possibility of "freedom from speech" never even occurs.
However, there is available to seekers a "free-from-talk-and-noise-and-loudness place," a "place" which Maharaj pointed to with the term "a supreme state"). It is a "place" that, alas, billions of persons on the planet will never visit.
M.: "The supreme state [is] a state of utter stillness and silence. Whoever goes there, disappears."
That "non-place" place is, of course, One's Original Nature.
Yet it is no wonder so few "go there," trapped as most are in their egotism-supported ego-states / their false identities. The ego, which hates the silence, loves the noise because the noise attracts attention, and being the center of attention is the life-blood of the ego.
M.: "[That place] is unreachable by words, or mind. You may call it 'God', or 'Parabrahman', or 'Supreme Reality', but these are names given by the mind."
So those are just man-made names that lead to diversions from the direct "path," diversions which trap persons at the third of seven steps on the seven-step path, diversions which inspire the accumulation of new labels and roles and identities (including, "The Super Religious One," "The Spiritual Giant," "The Noble Seeker," and "The Knower"); and those assumed identities block persons from "going there" to that "place" that is still and silent.
The ego drives persons to go and do and zoom; to avoid being still; to avoid the silence; and to generate attention-getting noise and to disturb the peace.
Persons try to give lofty names to that "place" (including "Heaven" or "Paradise" or "Arcadia" or "Canaan" or "Elysium" or "Shangri-la" or "Valhalla" or "Utopia" or "Zion" or "the afterlife" or the "afterworld" or "beyond" or "bliss" or "ecstasy" or "the eternal home" or "the place of eternal rest" or "the hereafter" or "immortality" or "kingdom come" or "life everlasting" or "the life to come" or "the next world" or "nirvana" or "the promised land");
however, Maharaj knew that all of those terms and phrases are nothing more than dreamed up concepts - fictional ideas conceived by men and used by them to try to manipulate and control the masses; thus, Maharaj made clear:
"[The supreme state] is the nameless, contentless, effortless, and spontaneous state . . . beyond being and not being." It is a place of perfect peace. So when can you finally be at peace?
M.: "When you understand that names and shapes are hollow shells without any content whatsoever, and [understand that] what is real is nameless and formless, [and understand] pure energy of life and light of consciousness, you will be at peace - immersed in the deep silence of Reality."
Then it will be understood that
a. the "Supreme state" really is a "nameless, content-less, effortless, and spontaneous state . . . beyond being and not being" [as Maharaj pointed out to "richard"] and it will be understood that
b. abidance "there" can only happen NOW, and it will be understood that
c. without choosing or doing or working at it, the Realized are automatically and spontaneously "immersed in the deep silence of Reality."
And the same can happen with You; thus, Maharaj said the following will happen if seekers undergo that moment of peripetia which reveals their Original Nature - which allows for abidance as that "Supreme and silent and quiet State":
M.: "If they come face-to-face with that root, they will be stunned into silence"
and
"Then the words 'I am man', or 'I am God' have no meaning. Only in silence and in darkness can it be heard and seen."
Consider the pointers in this exchange:
M.: "Mine is a non-verbal world. In your world the unspoken has no existence; in mine - the words and their contents have no being. In your world nothing stays; in mine - nothing changes. My world is real, while yours is made of dreams."
Questioner: "Yet we are talking."
M: "The talk is in your world. In mine - there is eternal silence. My silence sings; my emptiness is full; I lack nothing. You cannot know my 'world' until you are there."
In this regard, Maharaj taught: "Unmanifested, manifested, individuality,
personality (nirguna, saguna, vyakta, vyakti) . . . all these are mere words, points
of view, mental attitudes. There is no reality in them. The real is experienced
in silence."
And consider also the pointers in this exchange:
M: "When you go beyond progress, you will know what is 'progress'."
Q: "What makes us progress?"
M: "Silence is the main factor. In peace and silence you grow."
Is it clearer now why, if you would come to Me, you must come to Me as a child? The little girl being discussed required no "progress." Being, and being as an unconditionally happy infant, is the "place" that seekers should aspire to reach. In peace and silence, the little girl has grown and needs no growth. The adult woman, on the other hand, has disintegrated psychically and is screaming for growth, though she is not looking for it at all.
Trapped in personality, persons disintegrate. To "integrate" is to "merge" the self and Self (the I AM and the I AM THAT) which is what happens post-Realization when Reality is overlaid on the relative reality. If that happens, you, too, will be stunned into silence.
If that awareness has already manifested, then You can testify as to the
validity of that pointer. For those still on the "path":
"If you would come to Me, you must come to Me as a child."
To be continued.
