TODAY'S CONSIDERATIONS

 [See the offer following this post for details on how you can watch a video which includes a discussion of all seven of the steps on the path used by Maharaj]

Excerpts from the book entitled FREEDOM from BELIEFS (Believers, Non-Believers, and "No-Belief-ers") will continue with a discussion of the way that personality-invoking "-ism's" are another source which generates a plethora of distortion-riddled beliefs:

Personality and False Beliefs

What were nine of the "healthier" (a.k.a., nisargan or natural) passions which marked the pre-personality existence of humanity?

1. There was a passion for procreation;

2. there was a passion for foraging;

3. there was a passion for scavenging;

4. there was a passion for being quiet in order to avoid attracting animals that hunted not only other animals but also humans as well;

5. eventually, there was a passion for hunting in order to have fresh meat rather than scavenged meat;

6. there was a passion for eating plants;

7. that led to a passion for agriculture;

8. there was a passion for protection from the elements;

9. there was a passion for the peace which facilitated rest and rejuvenation and sleep.

Very simple, yes? Then, the personalities which are understood via the Enneagram began to develop. Nine different passions would begin to determine how humans felt, passions rooted in beliefs and ideas and concepts; passions generating desires which were often unmet;

passions triggering fears that disrupted the peace; and passions inspiring behaviors that disturbed individuals, pairs, groups, tribes, nations later on, and eventually the international community as well.

And there's what is at the heart of humankind's suffering and chaos. Societies and cultures have always been "hand-me-down" entities, passing down whatever they have accumulated in terms of "stuff" as well as in terms of their dreamed up concepts, ideas, misperceptions, etc. (a.k.a., "learned ignorance" and false beliefs).

One can only give what one "has," or one can only pass down or pass along what one "has," and (A) when what one "has" is an excess of misery and (B) when  what one "has" is the "ignorance and stupidity and insanity" (per Maharaj) which comes with the  near-universal Ultimate Sickness, then the only thing that all such persons can give away or pass down will be . . .

1. wrath and resentment and anger;

2. pride;

3. deceit;

4. melancholia and jealousy and envy;

5. greed and avarice;

6. fear or panic or cowardice;

7. conceit and gluttony;

8. lust (for power and control and for sexual power and sexual control and sexual dominance);

and

9. indifference or inertia or laziness.

Look at the behavior of those in the highest echelons of power in nations all around the globe for evidence of those types and see how those in charge use those Sick passions to manipulate persons who are also Ultimately Sick.

All of those passions are now among "the Psychic Viruses" which cause the Ultimate Sickness which calls for the Ultimate Medicine which is offered here. If the Ultimate Sickness is eliminated, then the movement to full realization can happen.

Furthermore, contrary to the claims or fears of some, full realization does not leave one unfeeling and uncaring and robotic. Quite to the contrary, the realized can be seen to be quite "enthused" after nine different passions manifest. Among the realized, there is a "passion" (that is, a nisargan, natural spontaneous inclination) for:

1. Authenticity

2. Self-Awareness

3. An overlaying of Reality on the relative existence

4. The inexpressible but understandable Truth

5. Real Love

6. Wisdom

7. Freedom / Independence

8. Peace / Silence

9. Bliss - in all its forms - that can only be known and enjoyed NOW.

Yet with so few on the planet being realized at any given moment, those are seldom being passed down at all nowadays.

If anyone who reads the lists above which catalogue the possibilities that can mark the relative existence and then settles for the one which begins with "wrath and resentment and anger" instead of seeking wholeheartedly the one which begins with "Authenticity," then there is clear evidence that several of the symptoms of the Ultimate Sickness are driving that person, including sick ideas, concepts, "-ism's," personality, learned ignorance, insanity and their valued but bogus "beliefs."

The teachings here are an invitation to leave behind personality and ignorance and insanity and concepts and beliefs and ideas and come home . . . come back to the original sanity, to Your Original Nature, to the original manner of abiding naturally rather than unnaturally or supernaturally.

Maharaj's "Take" on the Subject of "Beliefs"

The following pointers from Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj are also offered for consideration by site visitors:

"All happens as it needs, yet nothing happens. I do what seems to be necessary, but at the same time I know that nothing is necessary, that life itself is only a make-belief."

"See that you are not what you believe yourself to be."

"Stop imagining, stop believing."

"You are taking so many things for granted. Begin to question. The most obvious things are the most doubtful. Ask yourself such questions as 'Must I believe all I am told about myself?'"

". . . He is less remote from the truth who believes nothing than he who believes what is wrong."

"We believe in so many things on hearsay. We believe in distant lands and people, in heavens and hells, in gods and goddesses, because we were told. Similarly, we were told about ourselves, our parents, name, position, duties and so on. We never cared to verify. The way to truth lies through the destruction of the false. To destroy the false, you must question your most inveterate beliefs. Of these, the idea that you are the body is the worst. With the body comes the world, with the world - God, who is supposed to have created the world and thus it starts - fears, religions, prayers, sacrifices, all sorts of systems - all to protect and support the child-man, frightened out of his wits by monsters of his own making. Realise that what you are cannot be born nor die and, with the fear gone, all suffering ends."

"I am offering you exactly what you need: awakening. You are not hungry and you need no bread. You need cessation, relinquishing, disentanglement. What you believe you need is not what you need. Your real need I know, not you. You need to return to the state in which I am - Your Natural State."

"Go forth, unburdened with ideas and beliefs."

". . . Question wisely. Instead of searching for the proof of truth, which you do not know, go through the proofs you have of what you believe to know. You will find you know nothing for sure - you trust on hearsay. To know the truth, you must pass through your own experience."

"You believe you know the world and yourself - but it is only your ignorance that makes you say: 'I know'. Begin with the admission that you do not know and start from there."

"What is the drug which you call 'karma' or 'destiny'? It made you believe yourself to be what you are not. What is it, and can you be free of it? Before you go further you must accept, at least as a working theory, that you are not what you appear to be, that you are under the influence of a drug. Then only will you have the urge and the patience to examine the symptoms and search for their common cause."

"As long as we believe that we need things to make us happy, we shall also believe that in their absence we must be miserable. Mind always shapes itself according to its beliefs."

"After one or two years [a child] comes to know itself, the mother, etc. When the child knows itself, its knowingness has started. Prior to that it is ignorance; although it is no-knowingness, it is ignorance. Then the knowledge 'I Am' is attained: it does not know who it is but it knows it is something. Later on the child starts collecting concepts and ideas which other people feed it and develops certain concepts or images about itself and others. The mind has developed. Then comes deep sleep and the waking state, the daily cycle. In the waking state, in whatever state of mind you are, you know the world, together with your concepts, and then you fall into sleep. Now, technically, you can call that deep sleep no-knowingness. But this is not that no-knowingness beyond which the Absolute lies. Let us proceed again from the child: ignorance, knowingness, accumulation of concepts, meeting the Guru. The Guru tells you, 'Get rid of concepts, just be yourself.' So, when you are, only you are. This is the first step: to abide in the consciousness that you are, without words. When the child started knowing itself, there was also knowledge, but that is a general knowledge and is common to all. The seeker, having understood what the Guru said, gets rid of the concepts, and now, as the first step, the seeker dwells in the state 'I Am', just being." "Once you know with absolute certainty that nothing can trouble you but your own imagination, you come to disregard your desires and fears, concepts and ideas. [You] live by truth alone."

"You give reality to concepts, while concepts are distortions of reality. Abandon all conceptualisation and stay silent and attentive."

"Go beyond your concepts and ideas; in the silence [and in the absence] of desire and thought, the truth is found."

To be continued.

Five Free eBooks

Compliments of Andy Gugar, Jr.,
the following eBooks are available without charge for you or for friends:

I.
"GOOD vs. EVIL?" or "IGNORANCE, STUPIDITY, and INSANITY?"

The content of this eBook deals with one of the most common but erroneous beliefs that the non-Realized masses cling to and which they will fight about (and even kill over), namely, that there is a planet-wide duel going on between “the forces of good and evil” in the universe.

Either (1) the ancient view is spot on: that the "ills of the planet" are rooted in evil people, in people not being religious enough or spiritual enough, and are caused solely by bad morality; or, (2) the "ills of the planet" are rooted in ignorance, stupidity and insanity and "being good" or "being moral" does not put an end to ignorance, does not eliminate stupidity, and does not treat insanity in any way.

II.
"THE VISION"

Comments regarding the free eBook entitled “THE VISION”:

“My thanks to you and Andy.” – Andrew “Mac” McMaster

“Thanks so much for the book! And, by the way, it is brilliant and the most effective pointing that you have done. It has served to help clear the remaining blockages.” – Stan Cross

“Greatly appreciate having “THE VISION” added to my Henderson resource library that is situated on the right side of my bed for easy access! Eternally grateful for what was received and what was given.” – Robert Rigby

“‘THE VISION’ is such a well-written, condensed version of the Nisarga Yoga approach to understanding and enjoying Reality that I feel it can serve as a must-read ‘meditation guide’ for all earnest seekers.” – Andy Gugar, Jr.

III.
"Sapolsky, Maharaj, and the Non-Dual Teachings"

Dr. Robert Maurice Sapolsky is an American neuroendocrinologist; a professor of biology, neuroscience, and neurosurgery at Stanford University; a researcher; an author; and a Research Associate at the National Museums of Kenya.

There is much that a non-dualist or Advaitin or Nisargan can relate to by comparing and contrasting what Sapolsky reveals about the way certain troops of baboons live in Africa with the way that humans abide all around the globe.

This 152-page eBook catalogues the common, non-dual message shared by Sapolsky and Maharaj and reveals the ways that Sapolsky’s scientific research supports the non-dual pointers offered by Maharaj.

IV.
Seeking

In “PART ONE” it will be seen that most persons on the planet are not seeking, and most will never seek, but for those who are seeking, most will face several obstacles:

In “PART TWO” of this book, it will be seen why many criticized Maharaj for “changing his message in his later talks.” It will be seen that the changes were not about changing the message per se as much as about changing his methodology as he experimented with one version of the Ultimate Medicine after another in order to try to find an effective means for addressing the Ultimate Sickness.

He tried a religious version of the Medicine, a Spiritual version of the Medicine, and finally settled on a version which addressed to Sickness at its core . . . at the mental and emotional level.

V.
"THE MOST DANGEROUS BELIEF OF ALL"

“Dangerous” is a term that can only apply during the relative existence, but of those who do commit suicide, for example, how many shoot themselves in the foot over and over until they “bleed out”? None. They shoot themselves in the head. Why? In order to try to stop the noise - to try to stop the chatter of a thousand monkeys – to stop the noisy mind which is the area that stores the ideas, notions, concepts, mind-stuff, etc. which drives them into the depths of insanity.

And what are those ideas, notions, concepts, etc. called, collectively? "Their beliefs." The irony? They are not their beliefs at all. They are the beliefs of “others” that were set in place via programming, conditioning, etc. and which persons then think are their own.

And what are those beliefs rooted in, and what reinforces those beliefs and convinces persons that they are sacred and worth fighting over and even sometimes worth dying for? Blind faith.

This 337-page eBook discusses those issues in detail.
