The Pure, Universal Consciousness,

Pure Awareness,

and a

"Proper Perspective"

“I talk to you from the perspective of the universal consciousness.”

---Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj

Also from the book entitled A Different Perspective:

Other perspectives which differ from those held by the masses can manifest if realization is combined with the yoga which invites living naturally as opposed to living the way that the masses live, namely, unnaturally and / or supposedly supernaturally (or "spiritually").

What does trying to live supernaturally entail? It entails magical thinking and working constantly to try to live "spiritually" and "mythically" and "mystically" and "superstitiously" and in an "other-worldly fashion" and it always involves being certain that others see that is the case; moreover, it entails seeing supposed "miracles" around every corner rather than understanding true, natural cause(s) and forever using throughout the day the phrase "I am blessed."

[That phrase is usually the speaker's way of letting you know how hooked up she or he is with the god they believe in and how wonderful they must be in order to be blessed so much and so often. It is also a way to rationalize and minimize their shitty circumstances.]

In the hospital last week after experiencing what was labeled by my physicians to be "a massive heart attack," I was lying in bed hemorrhaging because of a botched surgical procedure on my heart. A woman came in to clean the toilet and empty the trash but after hearing my spontaneous expressions of pain as a team of nurses were working on my body, she decided that she had an important message for me (which was more about her than about me).

Lying there in pain and undergoing more than 100+ minutes of compression on a bleeding insertion point in the femoral artery, she approached to the side of the bed opposite where the team was working on me and said, "I want you to know that I am blessed and so are you."

Through my grimacing and under the influence of drugs, I did  not ignore her as I usually would have, so I said, "I think I'm not relating to that message right now."

A nurse asked her, "Don't you have something to do?" but she was not going to give up the sharing of her supposed image-enhancing message so easily, so she continued:

[Putting her palm in front of her face] "When you wake up in the morning, if you can put your hand in front of your face like this and see it,  then you're blessed."

[Again, I stupidly responded. I blame the drugs! Ha.] "I said, "That seems to be - Aaarghhhh! damn, that hurts! - a very low standard for a blessing."

She: Sir, that is . . . ."

[Interrupting] I stopped her, saying, "I think the toilet is calling you."

A nurse: "Lady, you need to go do your job and let us do ours."

[Giving a look that could kill] "Hey, I was just trying to help."

Nurse: "Go!!"

Efforts to live supernaturally (i.e., "spiritually" or "super religiously") result in an existence which is characterized by assigning dreamed up, supernatural causes to totally natural happenings; accepting hearsay as truth; valuing blind faith over science; accepting imaginings as reality; and rejecting actuality and evidence.

With the understanding of the Nisarga (Natural) Yoga which came post-realization, the perspective here now aligns with pointers offered at the end of Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj's teaching career rather than with his earlier sharings (such as those in the talks that were transcribed and that form the content of the book I AM THAT which he later advised seekers to stop reading).

In the eBook

"Sri Nisargatta Maharaj and His Evolution,"

it is explained that "Maharaj never adhered to one type of yoga consistently until he finally settled into what might be called an 'all-nisarga approach' at the end of his teaching career.

[Yes, in some of the talks in I AM THAT, he offered flashes of what was to come later, but he was still "holding back." Initially, his "audience" was local, religious, and interested in bhajans and ritual and traditional Hindu worship practices.

Later, as more Westerners began to visit the loft, he was able to begin the shift to offering a less traditional message that would eventually blossom in the end into a message that would earn him the label of "total maverick."

Thus, the initial focus of the discussions he offered were aimed at a primarily Hindu, Bombay (Mumbai) local audience, primarily interested only in worship and bhakti yoga;

later, his focus shifted to talks that were aimed more and more toward the encouragement of abiding naturally instead of trying to abide supernaturally / "spiritually." Eventually his talks focused on the psychological roots of the Ultimate Sickness.]

During his years of teaching, he shifted from guru-bhakti yoga to bhakti yoga to a combination of bhakti and jnana yoga to jnana almost exclusively for awhile and then finally, at the end, to nisarga yoga.

Here, the "full understanding" and total freedom and peace came not only with realization but also with an understanding and comprehension of the Nisarga Yoga message. With that came other perspectives that many consider to be different from the traditional views they hold, including the following:

Here also, there is very little attention paid to the content of I AM THAT (except when sharing the parts of those talks which foreshadowed the message that was to come later which dealt with the mind-source of the Sickness). Why?

Because, here, the full understanding did not come via guru-bhakti yoga or bhakti yoga or jnana yoga. For those who claim those worked for them, so it is.

Downplaying the overall message of that book aligns with Maharaj's own final appraisal of its content. He said of the book I AM THAT:

"That book and whatever was expounded at that time was only relevant for that period"

and

"I am speaking differently today"

and

"I am emphasizing different aspects" now.

During the final years of his teaching "career," no one who understands the import of his last talks would classify them as being "spiritual" at all; in fact, they were clearly not spiritual. (They were based in the science of psychology and dealt with the nemesis of the mind and its bogus content).

So the fact that I AM THAT is described on the back cover as a "modern spiritual classic" provides a gauge for understanding how far away Maharaj eventually moved from his earlier so-called "spiritual" message as the focus shifted to the mind-root of humanity's problems.

Here, after "The Vision" came [see “Freebies” above for a copy of the description and explanation of that vision] then Maharaj's talks were finally understood more accurately, but with one yoga after another being used in I AM THAT - and with the natural yoga only being advocated solely in the end - it became clear why the content of that book can only move most seekers to the third of the seven steps that are required for the full shift from identification with "the false I" to the Absolute.

[The third step is where super religious and / or super spiritual and / or super seeker roles are assumed and played.]

Only the later version of his talks can point the way to the final four steps and to the actual end of the "path."

His awareness of that fact inspired Maharaj to recommend that seekers pay no attention at all to the content of that book and to focus on the psychological and natural yoga messages that he offered at the end;

otherwise, the content of I AM THAT will reinforce the beliefs of those attached to Eastern religion and / or to the spiritual aspects of the non-duality teachings; will reinforce the concepts of those who believe in some version of an "other-worldly power" with an occasional reference to "God" therein; and will do almost nothing to shift seekers beyond the third of seven steps on the "path."

If one is to complete the entire "journey," then all of that "third step religious and / or spiritual activity and focus" must happen, but it must eventually be transitioned as religious and spiritual identities / ego-states are cast aside in order to complete the remaining steps on the "path," and

if one is to abide naturally - rather than unnaturally and / or supernaturally and / or "spiritually" - then a familiarity such pointers from Maharaj as the following must be the focus:

"Whatever spiritual things you aspire to know are all happening in this objective world, in the illusion. All this is happening in the objective world. All is dishonesty. There is no truth in this fraud."

"Only that person will visit this place whose virtue and sin have come to an end."

"There is no question of elevating to a higher level. Here it is only a question of understanding."

"Both the mantra and the faith in the mantra will get dissolved."

"There is no progress."

"First of all you identify something as being good or bad for yourself. Then, in an effort to acquire good or to get rid of the bad, you have invented a God. Then you worship such a God and . . . you pray to that God for something good to happen to you."

“Whatever you have tried to understand during your spiritual search will prove false.”

“From birth, what has made the body grow? It is no power in the world. It is the power of beingness, the atom, the Self, the consciousness . . . call it what you will.”

“When the birth is disproved, the great noble meaning of spirituality and the meaning of this world—everything—is disproved.”

“If they come face-to-face with that root, they will be stunned into silence.”

“I have no faith in anything which has ever been told, not even what has been told by the Vedas. Only my own experience.”

"I advise you to give up spirituality and follow your vocation."

"Wisdom is knowing I am nothing."

"The sum total of my spirituality now is nothing, even the word 'nothing' is not there, so there is no spirituality left."

"In the true state, nothing is. All this spiritual talk is spiritual jargon. Such concepts are for the ignorant people."

"Ultimately, what are these spiritual talks? They are meant for so long as ignorance prevails."

Here, there is no "one" to be religious or non-religious, no "one" to be spiritual or non-spiritual, and no "one" to assume to be anything else that could follow the term, "I am,” (including, “I am the Supreme Self,” “I am the Infinite Self, I Am My True Self,” I am at one with God" or “I am God”).

To be continued.

Please enter into the silence of contemplation.

Here, with those who are still driven to talk about "god," the "Son of god," the "Holy Spirit," "Buddha," "Krishna," etc., etc., etc., the invitation to them is to view those as verbs, not nouns.

THE EXPLANATION

If looked at as nouns, they point to illusions and are, therefore, a total waste of time to even discuss; if looked at as verbs which are resulting in certain sane but rare behaviors among humanity, then they are worthy of some attention during the relative existence.

Meaning? There are members of certain groups who say things such as "My concept of god in the past was of a weak god, an absentee god, A Santa Claus-type god, a mean, punishing, vindictive god, etc. Today, I am in close contact with a loving and caring god whom I worship and praise and glorify and give thanks to."

The reply to that usually goes like this: "If you are in contact with a god that wants to be worshipped and praised and glorified, then you're dealing with someone like yourself - a narcissist - and hanging out with narcissists will never bring an end to your narcissism (that narcissism evidenced by the fact that you think you are "godly").

Next, in the phrase 'loving and caring god,' any supposed god that truly had her or his act together would tell you that the totally irrelevant part of that phrase is 'god' and that the only part that is relevant is the "loving and caring" part.

"That is, a non-narcissistic their god / their goddess would say, "I care not an iota about being worshipped and praised and glorified by you or anyone else. How arrogant and insecure and needy would I have to be to want that? Forget the man-made, dreamed up noun 'god' and focus on the 'god as a verb' understanding and then go forth and let loving and caring be verbs - not adjectives - and let them generate the act of love and the act of caring and let those actions manifest through you."

Yeshu'a (Jesus) and Pope John Paul II and Pope Francis were spot on:

"No one shall ever see 'the kingdom of heaven.' It is within"

--Yeshu'a (Jesus)

and

"Heaven and earth shall fade away."

--Yeshu'a (Jesus)

and

"Heaven and hell are not geographic places

but are states of mind, nothing more than

concepts dreamed up by men."

--Pope John Paul II

"There is no hell."

--Pope Francis, the current pope

in an interview with journalist Eugenio Scalfari,

a writer used by the Pope to issue off the record

teachings which become a part of the Papal Magisterium.

[That said, would that the popes who have shown the courage to reject a core concept of their dogma - namely, "hell" - would find the additional courage required to question the very existence of their institution in light of the centuries-long cover-up of their history of raping children and in light of the mental and emotional and psychological scarring of billions of their members past and present.

And that need for courage also applies as questions need to be asked about why so many other sky cults are still being supported and allowed to continue to exist as well. When certain types of programming and conditioning have been shown to blind the masses, they should end. Will they? Not likely. Why?

Because what the masses think and say and do is most influenced by the international crime families which hold sway over the masses as criminals conduct their planet-wide operations. What are the major international crime families and which are the most influential and have the largest memberships?

The Mafia / La Cosa Nostra; the Catholic Church (with it 1.2 billion followers) whose Vatican Bank worked for decades with the Mafia while laundering mob earnings (for a 15% all-profit charge by the Bank); Protestant and Evangelical Churches (with over 1.2 billion followers) like the one I was raised in where the youth director molested and sexually assaulted young girls; big business which has long created environments in which people have been abused; powerful political bodies like the U.S. Congress, etc., etc., etc.)

With all of those crime families, neither the followers nor the leadership ever voluntarily step down or shut down their criminal activities. Be they gangs, organized crime families, religions, big business, politicians, etc., they all want control and they all want power and they all want money, and nothing internal will interfere with the driving forces at play.

The masses must demand that all those in charge must step down and their groups and institutions must shut down, and there's the real problem because the continuation of their crimes are enabled not as much by the people running such crime organizations as they are enabled by the masses of people who - wanting some perceived "payoff" - remain involved with them and give them money and support them and aid and abet the continued existence of those criminal enterprises and thus facilitate the ability of church criminals and political criminals and other types of criminals to continue to commit their crimes.]
