FINAL POINTERS, Part “3”
In the novel The Board of Directors of Wars
the three curses of humankind - all of which spread the symptoms of the Ultimate Sickness on a global level - are identified as:
big business and the lies told by their advertisers;
big government and the lies told by politicians;
and
big religion and the lies told by their leaders and in their literature.
And how do they manipulate the masses? Via the beliefs they spread through false advertising;
via the beliefs they spread in churches and temples and synagogues and supposedly “holy books” and wherever else sky cults meet and program and condition and indoctrinate and brainwash members;
and via the false beliefs which politicians spread via their gatherings and their false writings and speeches.
How much time have you ever spent pausing and considering what your beliefs really are and how you came to believe those beliefs?
One man came here to attack his wife and to seek ways to make her “get in line.” During the few years when I was able to observe him from the time we talked to the time his wife finally left him, he never looked objectively at what his father taught him and modeled for him in regards to what relationships with women were supposed to be like.
His dad was “a man’s man,” the fellow told me. “John Wayne was his model and hero.”
F.: “I know how John Wayne treated women in his life and I’ve read some things his acquaintances revealed after his death about some of his preferences.
“As you know, the approach here is that it’s no one’s business what goes on behind closed doors as long as all is consensual, but John Wayne might not have been the ideal model for the way to behave with a female mate. So how did your dad treat your mom?”
“[Angrily] “He treated her great . . . he had her quit work after they married and he paid all her bills for her entire life!”
F.: “So do you now believe that as long as a woman is given money, nothing else is required in a relationship?”
“You have some real weird views, do you know that?”
End of conversation.
So the fourth curse of humankind is what is modeled and taught in the home (or what message is being sent when no effort in the home is made to help offspring shake off the yoke of ignorance and to find wisdom to replace it).
Thus, the blueprint for one’s work on belief systems is set:
Spend some time and energy finding out what your real beliefs are about as a result of . . .
the messaging which big business and the lies told by their advertisers spread through one’s culture;
the messaging which big government and politicians spread;
the messaging which big religion and leaders and literature spread;
and
the messaging which was passed down by whichever adults were the most influential as far as programming, conditioning, domestication, acculturation, brainwashing and indoctrination were concerned.
BUSINESS AND ADVERTISERS
P.D. Wimbush discussed 5 of the most popular appeals in advertising:
Fear as a Motivator
Fear appeals focus on the negative outcomes that can happen because of an action or inaction. Advertisers use fear appeals to promote an immediate behavior change such as eating healthier or not smoking. Another fear tactic involves isolation. People will purchase a product to avoid isolation from others because of bad hygiene. Deodorant and toothpaste ads often employ this tactic.
Humor Which Creates Emotional Connections
Humor appeals make consumers laugh and create an emotional link with the product. A well-executed humor appeal enhances recollection, evaluation and the intent to purchase the product. Advertisers link the product with the humor.
“Rational” Appeals to the Practical Side
Supposedly rational or logical appeals focus on the consumer’s need for practicality and functionality in a product. Advertisers relay this message by focusing on product features and cost. These ads tell consumers the benefits associated with the purchase of a product. The advertiser then provides “proof” to supposedly back up the claims.
Sex and Sensuality Sell
Sex appeals capture attention, but seldom promote product consumption. Effective sex appeal ads convey a specific message to the target demographic group. Beer advertisers often use sex appeal to promote their product to men. The typical scene involves several young, average-looking men in a bar. The men purchase the beer and gain the attention of an attractive young woman.
Fragrance products use sex appeal to convey romance to women by indicating the use of the product will help her find the man of her dreams. Generally done by showing the woman spraying the fragrance and then capturing the attention of an attractive male who passes her on the street.
Fear of Missing Out
A bandwagon appeal makes consumers believe they are missing out by addressing the consumer’s need to belong. Food and drink ads show hip young adults enjoying a product and ignoring the individual who chooses the less popular product. Medical products show consensus by indicating the number of medical professionals who support the product. For example, a cold medicine ad may say, “Eight out of 10 doctors recommend this product” to show product effectiveness.
Effect Achieved
Be aware that one need not pay attention to an ad in order to be controlled by its content. Advertisers understand that most ads which “work” do so via subliminal processes:
Psychologists understand that even if a stimulus or mental process is functioning below the threshold of sensation or consciousness can still be perceived by or can still affect persons’ minds without their even being aware of it. Just hearing it or seeing the message can form the belief which advertisers wants persons to accept as truth.
Might you be able to pause and discover some of the beliefs you hold which were passed along by those wanting your money?
