“The Top Ten Sources of the Ultimate Sickness” (continued)
#4: the subconscious agendas of personality / personalities
A major contributor to the widespread manifestation of the Ultimate Sickness and its key symptoms of “ignorance, stupidity, and insanity“ (per Maharaj) include what the sages referred to as “body identification,” “mind identification,” and “personality identification.”
BODY IDENTIFICATION
Are there relative dangers which come with the belief that “I am my body”?
Last week a woman selected by some group as being “one of the most
beautiful women on the planet” responded to winning that “award” with the
comments that her looks and her body have always been her “tools.” Relative dangers lurk when any male or female is operating in that mode.
A former father-in-law told his daughter that he was not going to let her go to college; that she had a great body and good looks; and that she should use those to hook a rich men to take care of her.
Enter a total sleepwalker called “Floyd” and “voila!” Mission accomplished. The costs to me and my daughter? I won’t go there. A huge percentage of the population of the planet has experienced the details for themselves.
Serial killer Ted Bundy also used his “looks” to attract the scores of women whom he raped and strangled or bludgeoned and mutilated after their murder.
The list is endless. Most could cite plenty of examples.
MIND IDENTIFICATION
The effects of believing the content stored in the human mind, pumped full of nonsense via programming, conditioning, domestication, acculturation, indoctrination and brainwashing has been discussed.
Those forces are used to generate minds filled with duality-based beliefs. Unless fully realized, the mind will guarantee that insanity and chaos shall reign.
After Yeshu’a (erroneously referred to as “Jesus”) was exposed to some non-dual pointers, he said, “A dual-minded person is unstable in all ways.”
What did Maharaj have to say about the subject?
Having tried the religious approach with the addition of non-dual pointers, and having tried the spiritual approach with the addition of non-dual pointers, he came to realize the following:
"Whatever spiritual things you aspire to know are all happening in this objective 'world', in the illusion. All is dishonesty. There is no truth in this fraud."
There is no question of elevating to a higher level. Here is it only a question of understanding" (and "understanding" is a mental process . . . not a religious or spiritual process).
"There is no progress."
First of all, you identify something as being good or bad for yourself.
Then, in an effort to acquire good or to get rid of bad, you have invented a
God. Then you worship such a God and . . . you pray to that God for something
good to happen to you."
"Whatever you have tried to understand during your spiritual search will
prove false."
"When the birth is disproved, the great noble meaning of spirituality and
the meaning of this world - everything - is disproved."
"I have no faith in anything which has ever been told, not even what has
been told by the Vedas. Only my own experience."
So?
So "forget spirituality," he said.
Follow your "normal inclinations."
"Do your normal duties."
"Just give up spirituality."
[But what about finding "the True Self" and "The Supreme
Self"?]
He said that "it is enough to know what you are not"
and
"I got involved in spirituality, in the business of spirituality, [but]
finally I lost that love of Self also. I have no more love for the Self."
[So after giving up the love of the false selves which have been assigned or
which we have assumed, we can also give up the love of the Self as well?
Hummm.]
When a visitor to the loft said, "The scriptures say that we have our
karma and our sins and that is why we are here," Maharaj answered:
"That is for the ignorant masses. One who has realized . . . , for him
these stories are of no use."
[So all of the so-called special words in so-called special books which
contribute to the planet's overload of ignorance can be of "no use"
to those who are suffering from ignorance and need to be purged of ignorance?
Hummm.]
So if not the holy and spiritual plans which are being set forth by the persons who are leading the masses, then what should be focused upon, according to what Maharaj eventually came to understand as a more appropriate treatment plan? According to Maharaj, the mind. The Ultimate Sickness is a mental sickness, so only by addressing the mental issues can healing come. Thus, he said:
"All illness begins in the mind."
"Your confusion is . . . in your mind."
"Whatever is conceived by the mind must be false, for it is bound to be relative and limited."
"Distrust your mind, and go beyond."
"There is no chaos in the world except the chaos which your mind creates."
" . . . The mind obscures and distorts."
"It is the mind that creates illusion."
"There is no such thing as peace of mind. Mind means disturbance; restlessness itself is mind."
"Don't rely on your mind for liberation. It is the mind that
brought you into bondage. Go beyond it altogether."
"Beyond the mind there is no suffering."
So if the problem centers in the mind, and since a sick mind - obviously - cannot heal a sick mind, then what is the solution, per Maharaj?
"Stop making use of your mind and see what happens."
"Learn to separate yourself from the image and the mirror. Keep on remembering: I am neither the mind nor its ideas."
"There is no such thing as mind. There are ideas . . . ."
"Abandon the wrong ideas, for they are false and obstruct your vision . . . ."
"The death of the mind is the birth of wisdom."
"To know that you are a prisoner of your mind, that you live in an
imaginary world of your own creation, is the dawn of wisdom."
So what was his state in the end, the state which ultimately freed him and led to the birth of his wisdom? It was a no-mind state:
"There is no such thing as a mind."
"I have no mind . . . ."
Want to be free of the mind? Maharaj advised:
"Reach a state of zero-concepts."
"As to my mind, I have no such thing. There is consciousness in which
everything happens."
"I am double dead: not only am I dead to my body, but to my mind,
too."
"I find I have lost the mind irretrievably."
His point; If the mind goes, then peace can come, and if peace comes, then
going and doing and zooming and racing about when being driven by duality-based
beliefs stored in the mind can also go.
PERSONALITY IDENTIFICATION
What could render humans more vulnerable and weak and defenseless and helpless and incapable (relatively speaking) than to have their every thought and word and action controlled by a force which they are not even conscious of?
Dangerous enough that the limbic brain exists. It is the part of the brain involved in our behavioral and emotional responses, especially when it comes to behaviors needed for survival: feeding, reproduction, caring for the young, and experiencing fight or flight or freeze responses.
The limbic system is involved in some of the most challenging neuro-behavioral disorders known to medicine, including disorders of mood and anxiety such as depression and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), substance abuse and dependence, and disorders of cognition and memory such as Alzheimer disease.
But even if a mind in not burdened with any of those, every mind among non-realized humans is definitely being driven by hidden forces, namely, the unconscious and subconscious agendas of personality identifications which each have a primary fear and a primary desire which drives that personality.
In addition to those primary agendas, when one has (typically) assumed 80 false identities during a period of years, then each of those personas have seven more specific agendas which are all “talking to the person” about what it wants or needs or desires; thus, a mind can have 80 x 9 = 720 voices in their heads, rattling on and on: "I want this"; "I need that"; "I judge you and find that you are lacking . . ." whatever.
By the end of a typical existence, persons can easily assume or be assigned double that number of false identities so the number of voices in the typical human mind will well exceed 1000.
(I told a friend in the early days after our paths crossed that the result of the process above can result in it sounding like the chatter of a thousand monkeys is going on in one’s head.” He said “I like that. In my next talk, I’ll give you credit. After that, it’s mine!” I asked, “So which of your false identities is driving you to do that? Ha.” He suggested I do something to myself that is anatomically impossible, at least in my case.)
