But when the whole has become That (Atman), who is seen by whom, who is to be heard by whom, who is to be welcomed by whom, who is to be known by whom?” ginny
F.: Yesterday’s posting on “Personality Determinism” ended with this:
Tomorrow, a second example will be offered of a nephew who is in Iraq as a result of being driven by his Type Six Personality while all along believing that he made a conscious choice to “fight for the honor of his nation’s flag and the safety of his homeland,” that he made a conscious choice to “serve his nation’s highest good,” and that he made a conscious choice to be “willing to die for his country.”)
Add to those belief systems his girlfriend’s comment that “only real men are willing to die for their country” and one can see how personality determiners disconnect logic and reason.
Now this nephew would argue that he is in
The non-Realized are moving blindly through this relative existence, making no choices while believing that they are choosing all of their thoughts and words and deeds. He is in
Fifty percent of all humans are Type Six Loyalists, and the effects of their programming become obvious when it is seen that they become persons who will not question authority; who believe everything said by “leaders”; who can believe that they live in “the greatest country on earth”;
who will "honor" a piece of cloth; who are, blindly, willing to die for a bogus cause; who will think that “love” and a girlfriend’s statement that “it’s ok with me if he voluntarily goes to Iraq and dies” can be compatible; who believe in separation by nation; who never question their culture's propensity for fighting and war;
and who refuse to study the facts and arrive at their own conclusions rather than accepting without challenge the word of any person in charge, including persons in charge of churches and temples and mosques…in charge of the military…in charge of the government…in charge of a corporation…and in charge of any institution or entity that is a part of the “establishment.”
Once a Type Six has been conditioned to be a Six, then (a) fear will be a driving motive alongside (b) blind faith in the words of anyone considered to be an “authority.” Again, that might include military commanders, teachers, police captains, politicians, religious and/or spiritual leaders, a dominant spouse, etc.

While the nephew’s joining a fighting force might look rather macho, fears about employment that involved functioning in a regular business environment can drive persons to a military job that provides shelter, clothing, and three meals a day (even though those other aspects—being shot at, the chance of begin killed, and the requirement to kill—apply).
Note, too, the insanity of the “Country First” element of the population that “supports our troops”: a nephew who is trained as a professional killer, who kills blindly and unquestioning whomever he’s told to kill, and who gets paid to kill is considered noble…by himself, by his girlfriend, and by millions in the U.S. who are still functioning under the determining influence of an Anglo-Saxon culture’s warlike mentality.
Yet those same persons would despise a mafia hit man who is trained as a professional killer, who kills blindly and unquestioning whomever he’s told to kill, and who gets paid to kill. In the first case, a culture considers such persons to be noble; in the second case, persons doing the same thing are considered despicable.
Such is the thought-life of those trapped in duality. Such is thinking among persons…always backwards...able to proclaim proudly that "We support our troops" but thinking it would be insane to say, "We support hit men."
And such is the way persons function throughout the relative existence if Realization does not happen: persons will be driven by deterministic factors such as biological drives; personality drives; ego and egotism drives; ego-defense mechanism drives; etc., and they will never be able to see the dualistic nature of their thoughts and words and actions.
All the while, they will walk about the planet, totally asleep and dreaming that they are awake and making conscious choices. And though their belief systems trap them in thoughts that are 180-degrees opposite fact, they will be convinced that their thoughts are right, that their words and right, and that their actions are right.
Further, they will be convinced that they have control and that they have power, including personal power as well as the other forms of power that they think they are tapping into: religious power; spiritual power, military power, political power, ad infinitum.
How much more powerless could one be than to be moving through the relative existence with no choice, with no control, with no ability to behave reasonably, with no behavior to think logically, and with no ability to avoid self-destructive conduct?
Only the Realized will live naturally, will have access to the sixth sense, will be able to tap into the “constructive” inner resource, and will have the wherewithal to move away from chaos and/or danger rather than move blindly toward chaos, toward danger, toward the lie, toward conflict, toward separation, and toward belief in duality. Please enter the silence of contemplation.
