Here, there is nothing that is believed, so there is no one here who wants you to believe anything, either. Here, the invitation is to be free of all that you have been programmed, conditioned, acculturated, and domesticated to believe so that you can be free, period.
F.: Again, that which is One cannot be "compatible with" anything. When one has heard and has understood the Advaitin message and has been guided through the seven steps to Realization and has Realized Fully, then what else is there to pursue?
What else needs to be known after all knowing has been abandoned? What is there to do if the illusion of a do-er has ended? What is there to seek if the illusion of the seeker has ended?
If Advaita is no longer needed, post-Realization, then how could "Advaita plus something else" be required or be of interest? Yet the efforts to combine Advaita with other things continue, but only among those claiming to be Realized but who are not Fully Realized at all; thus, persons are now, more frequently than ever, advocating "Advaita Plus."
Recent comments have been shared, revealing that persons are trying to combine the non-duality teachings of Advaita with a twelve-step, recovery group approach; with Christianity (and Hinduism and most other organized religions);
with Native American or Far Eastern Spirituality (which Maharaj dismissed as "kindergarten spirituality"); with a variety of philosophies; and with praying.
NON-DUALITY / ADVAITA PLUS PRAYING
Yes, it was heard recently that the Advaitin seeker can be moved farther along and faster along the "path to enlightenment" if the seeker adds prayers to the mix. Consider:
1. Advaita leads to the end of belief in any persona
2. All desire and fear ends when personality ends
3. Praying for anything is evidence of personality-driven desires or fears
Therefore, by definition, neither non-duality, the Advaita method, nor Realization can involve praying.
A. Advaita ("not two") ends all belief in duality
B. Praying involves duality, "A" praying to "B"
Therefore, by definition, neither non-duality, the Advaita method, nor Realization can involve praying.
Maharaj's pointer, "This is stupidity, verging on insanity," could apply as well to any case when a person reports that he / she is going to combine the teaching that there is but One with any religion, with any so-called "spiritual movement," with any ideology, with any philosophy, or with any method claiming that it can help a seeker attain or gain something by learning more.
Advaita is about un-learning, not learning, and if the Advaitin "path" to Realization is completed, then the illusions of "The Seeker," "The Attainer," and "The Gainer" all end.
Site regular Mac yesterday visited a bookstore to find something entertaining to read while on a trip. He reported that he saw "three racks of books for 'self improvement'," adding "what a futile pursuit, eh?" Indeed, with Advaita-driven Realization, there is no longer any belief that there is a self to improve, for all delusions about any "self" being real also end.
When builders complete the building of a house, they put away their tools and they put aside the drawings that guided them through each step of the building process. When Advaitin seekers complete their "journey," they put aside Advaita, which was a "tool" or a "set of drawings" or a "set of guideposts" that led to the end of the "path" to Realization.
Do some builders, after they finish building houses, teach others to build a house? Some do; some do not. So it is, but either way, they do not pick up the tools again and they do not re-use the plans they used in the past. They might, however, allow students to view the plans for a time if teaching happens spontaneously.
With the manifestation of Advaita-driven Realization, there is even an end to Advaita (the thorns used to remove thorns having been cast aside along with the initial, offending thorns). With the manifestation of Advaita-driven Realization, there is no desire to combine Advaitin teachings with anything, the Advaitin teachings having been cast aside as well.
Advaita, leading eventually to the end of Advaita, will most assuredly also lead to the end of attachment to seeking, to acquiring more and more knowledge, to organized religion, to spiritual movements, to philosophies, to ideologies, to any and all systems of learning and accumulating, and to any and all concepts and ideas and beliefs and theories.
Realization also brings to an end all thinking, which is always flawed, and thus an end to the thought that "Advaita is pretty good, but it's missing something. It needs something added to it. If Advaita is good, Advaita Plus will be great." Claptrap. Drivel. Twaddle. Hogwash. Baloney. Nonsense. And you know what, verging on you know what.
