As for Maharaj, you will find here some of his early pointers for beginners but some of his later pointers that are for seekers father along the "path." During his last years, he said of I AM THAT: "That book and whatever was expounded at that time was only relevant for that period. I am speaking differently today" and am "emphasizing different aspects." What he offered later differed considerably from his earlier talks, making clear that the pointers in I AM THAT will take you to the midpoint of "the race" but that his final talks point the way to "the finish line."
F.: Yesterday's post addressed the propensity among the non-Realized to spin and distort and justify and rationalize their way past actually seeing all things relative as they actually are.
Even offering that pointer can raise questions such as, "Well, who is to say what is real and what is spin?" and "Who says you are the one who can spot insanity?" and "What makes you think you know anything about this at all?"
All legitimate queries. First, let it be said that the people used in yesterday's example are not being judged. Nothing is addressed here that has not been experienced here. Meaning?
Meaning, how could "floyd" know anything about the toll of entering into a bogus "love-based relationship" or about the pain and suffering that can come from selling one's Self for economic gain - while playing the "love game" in order to hang onto those gains - if he had not done the same? Two old sayings apply: "If you spot it, you've got it" and "If you can see it, you must be it" (or at least have "been it").
So, just like the couple mentioned yesterday, "floyd" has "been there," has "done that," from both angles: from using money in the past to attract women and from accepting money from women in the past in order to have "a better lifestyle" or to alleviate financial fears. And "floyd" also experienced all of the pain and misery and suffering when those actions led to the abandonment of the Authentic Self.
Decades ago, "floyd" was in the exact same position as the woman mentioned yesterday, and as a result of having done the same and as a result of understanding what can drive such behaviors, there is not one iota of judgment regarding her or him or anyone else. I was at One with both of them, having been on the giving end and on the receiving end of the money game.
Yet today, having left all of that behind, there is sadness when it is witnessed because it is now understood via first-hand experience that, with some, when Self is abandoned, an inner cancer will grow. ("With some" because those driven by a personality type such as the Three or the Eight - types who care nothing at all about authenticity - can play the games forever without feeling any consequences at all; to the contrary, they glory in their gains or acquisitions.)
Next, how can it be known, when persons are sharing their explanations about their conduct and motives, that nothing they are saying is fact? Review the content of the May 10th post quoting Bruce Lipton and see this:
Lipton suggests that the subconscious controls 95% of the mind's activity and that whatever adults are doing happens only about 5% of the time from the fully-awake beta state of consciousness.
In Advaitin terms, 95% of the time, persons are talking in their sleep, walking about in their sleep, driving in their sleep, expressing perceptions that are total "spins" and / or distortions, and fooling themselves and others.
One need not be Realized to look at the facts and know that
** whatever mind-based thoughts are being spoken as persons share explanations about their motives cannot possibly be factual ...
and to know that
** whatever perceptions and perspectives that are being verbalized by a person cannot be anywhere close to what is really driving that person ...
when 95% of what persons are saying is rooted in the subconscious. The blocked consciousness might be speaking, but almost all that is being said is coming from an unconscious source.
Again, however, none of that could be understood if Floyd had not seen
(A) that 95% of what "floyd" had thought and said (and truly believed at a point in the past) was actually 95% nonsensical - at the least - and if Floyd had not seen
(B) that he had totally missed the mark when it came to seeing facts, truth, reality, and actuality.
So again, let it be said that there has never been a topic regarding insanity or stupidity or delusion that has ever been discussed on this site that Floyd could know anything about if he had not also experienced it in the past.
In "floyd's" ignorance and insanity in the late 1970's, he also had too many lovers but no True Love at all. Did he know that what he was mistaking as "True Love" was anything but that? Not at all.
Looking back at the behavior in those days, it has now become clear that the motivator behind the notion of using money to attract people (and to "buy" or "rent" people) is rooted in one of two issues:
(1) Often the wealthy spoil themselves even as they are unbelievably spoiled by others. They become accustomed to having whatever or whoever they want and controlling whatever or whoever they want - the result of their having large sums of money in societies that, above all else, value money and what it can bring. "More" is the rule with them, never "less." De-accumulation to them is anathema; accumulation is their driving force, including the accumulation not only of things but also of people as well.
(2) The other factor that can be at play has been discussed on this site previously when the pointer was offered that, relatively speaking, one with "low or no esteem who believes that he / she must give more and more to others - and must be more and more useful to others - in order to be accepted is driven by the belief that: 'I am not enough ... only 'me, plus' can possibly be acceptable to anyone'."
Childhood programming and conditioning fixes that notion in the mind of children, the message often being implanted by far too much criticism and far too much correcting that "I am not enough"; "I will never be good enough"; and as a result, "I will never have as much of anything that I need or want."
The conclusions become, "I have to give people money or sex or gifts to attract them" and / or "I am worthless and will therefore allow others to use me and then - maybe by giving them what they want - they'll accept me in spite of all my flaws and shortcomings." In some cases among narcissists, an opposite belief can later develop that "I am entitled to be taken care of" or "I am entitled to have anything and everyone I want."
There was a time when that very type of programming and conditioning developed in "floyd" such a sense of inferiority that he could never believe that anyone would want "just floyd" and that people could only be attracted to "floyd plus," to "floyd" plus whatever else he could throw into the mix to attract people. The levels of the Ultimate Sickness at play in either of those two scenarios above cannot be overstated.
The masters of deception can make fools of people - that is, they are adept at fooling others - but they will seldom see that they are fooling themselves when their "minds" twist facts and reality and actualities in ways that are 180-degrees from what is factual and real and true.
If crazy cannot see crazy, then it should be clear that "bouncing one's beliefs off of" a Realized teacher or a trained professional counselor might provide objective feedback about beliefs or perceptions that are the 180-degree opposite of truth and reality.
