TODAY'S CONSIDERATIONS

To review:

That which is natural is rooted in non-duality; all which involves unnatural thinking and / or supernatural thinking is rooted in duality.

Whether speaking of Maharaj's lesser focus on the Nisarga Yoga in the beginning or discussing his near-total focus on abiding naturally in the end (as opposed to trying to live supernaturally and / or unnaturally), it is granted that all of that is relevant only to the AM-ness, but presently, what happens in the AM-ness impacts every person far more than anything to do with the THAT-ness.

So, to continue with excerpts from the book Why NISARGA YOGA in addition to the Advaita Teachings? as considerations about the Nisarga (natural) fashion of abidance are offered:

Natural Living in the Absence of Identification

The ultimate Advaita understanding is that there need not be any understanding, there being no "one" to understand at all; however, that pointer is not for the beginner. The entire "path" must be followed, that understanding above notwithstanding.

After following the "path," the intent is to "return" and to live out the remainder of the relative existence, and it is for the remainder of the relative existence that seekers here are invited to live in a natural, Nisarga method.

As noted earlier, AS IF living (based in the no-concept, non-dual, no-identity "Reality") is seldom modeled by any of the humans walking about among the masses; thus, one cannot look to the non-realized masses to find examples of such natural living.

Look to nature instead; thus, to continue the earlier discussion, true AS IF living is a mode of natural living, modeled in nature by animals such as the deer, primarily docile and at peace . . . living a minimalist existence … accumulating nothing . . . believing nothing . . . never fighting for any “belief” . . .

functioning quite splendidly without any “identity” even though sensing presence … and either enjoying all aspects of the manifestation or tolerating all aspects of the manifestation in a no-attachment-mode.

How closely does your relative existence reflect that mode of Nisarga, natural living? Is it possible that You might also function quite splendidly, even without any concepts or dualistic beliefs or any “identity”?

As noted earlier, many seekers over the years have challenged the plausibility of the “try living more like the deer” pointer that is offered here. One said,

“I have a class of twenty-two second graders that I’m responsible for. That includes teaching them what they have to know for the state test, disciplining them, chaperoning them to lunch, getting the sick ones out of the room and to the school nurse, dealing with their principals and counselors, making tests, grading tests, planning lessons, and conferencing with parents. Tell me how I’m supposed to live as peacefully as a deer in the woods.”

The reply: What is obvious in the comment first is a level of stress that is typical among many teachers, yet a high level of stress is typical among most persons around the globe. So how can you, or anyone in any stressful profession or situation, live more in the style of a deer and avoid that stress?

First, by realizing fully and then completing the third leg of the "journey." Should that happen, you will no longer identify yourself as “The Teacher” (which is usually upgraded to “The Super Teacher,” an ego-state which co-dependently requires “Super Students” for “The Super Teacher’s” happiness and, indeed, very survival. More on that to follow.)

Stay in that mode and you will never be happy and stress-free because you will never consistently have "Super Students" that are more concerned with assuring your happiness than with their own interests and agendas.

However, if you were to realize who / what you are not (namely “The Teacher” or "The Super Teacher") and Realize THAT Which You Truly Are, then even as you are no longer “The Teacher" . . .

1. teaching can still happen;

2. being paid after teaching happens can still continue;

3. all of the job tasks that you catalogued above can still happen; xx4. and it can all take place even as an AS IF lifestyle - which includes a style that can be as peaceful as that of a deer - can also happen.

How can that be?

When the role of “The Teacher” is accepted as an identity, then - as referenced earlier - egomania immediately promotes or upgrades that persona to the imaginary status of “The Super Teacher.” And what does “The Super Teacher” think that it must have in order to exist?

(1) Super lessons that are being sought wholeheartedly by (2) “Super Students.” And when students are not doing what “The Super Students” are expected to do, then “The Super Teacher” feels as if he / she is dying and begins to fight for his / her life by attacking “the not-super-students” who, for example, were not paying attention.

[Such attacks come as often from “The Super Spouse” who is not getting the respect desired, from “The Super Performer” who is not getting the attention that is wanted, or from “The Super Employer” whose employees are not paying adequate attention or “doing” what “Super Employees” are expected to do.]

When that ego-state of “The Teacher” dissolves (post-realization), a shift results after the understanding becomes, “Teaching might happen today … or not.” (That simply means that no ego-state is attached to outcome, no ego-state is bent on controlling things that are beyond one's control, and that no ego-state is ready and willing to fight in order to maintain a false image.)

When abiding in an AS IF fashion, no role and no do-er is fighting for its imagined life any longer. A shift in perspective happens as mere witnessing begins. Truth is differentiated from the false. Emotional intoxication ends. When the illusion of do-er disappears, then the witness begins to merely observe what happens . . . or not. Peace manifests alongside that awareness.

To forfeit the illusion of a do-er with power and control allows You to sit back, to relax, and to take it easy while witnessing all of the insane conduct of the billions of personas being assumed as actual identities around the globe and being embroiled in their “going and doing and zooming."

The witness will not be caught up in "their" chaos and will not be pulled under by the relative existence maelstroms that the egotism of personas always generates.

And that is the way that you can live as peacefully as the deer and still meet your basic food, clothing and shelter requirements. This is not a theory but is a report of actual experience. Yet you can never be at peace and ease if meeting the basic requirements is not the goal.

If the goal is to have the highest standard of food, the highest standard of clothing, and the highest standard of housing, then you cannot live as the deer lives. The deer is ego-less, so less is just fine.

Thus, to move to a fashion of living that is marked by even higher levels of peace, many have followed this suggestion: they have down-sized or de-accumulated after asking such questions as:

"Do I have a house that is larger than required?"

and

"Do I own my house or does my house own me?"

and

"Could the next car purchase involve a smaller or less expensive and more efficient vehicle or not?"

and

"Have I ever figured the exact cost of ego, in dollars or euros or rupees or pounds sterling, as relates to every purchase I have ever made?"

and

"Have I made any effort to be free of the effects of having been programmed to believe that 'more is better' and actually considered the possibility that my relative existence might be improved with less?"

When a deer has a more peaceful lifestyle than you, and when you see that a deer is a minimalist that could hardly have less, then the wise also see the correlation.

The deer does not accumulate, does not race through its days or nights, does not prefer noise to the quiet, does not adopt false identities, does not overeat or do anything to excess out of boredom or nervousness; and does not adopt an agenda of other animals in the forest and act like something that it is not. For you, less "stuff" could mean less maintenance;

smaller "stuff" could mean less expense of upkeep; less cost could mean sooner freedom from bills; less noise will guarantee more quiet and peace if schedules are adjusted to include at least some quiet time each day;

going and doing and zooming could be less necessary if the illusions of "self" gave way to an awareness of Self; and freedom of speech could become less touted when freedom from speech becomes valued.

You can live as freely as the deer if you follow the steps that can result in realization and in de-accumulation (which always follows realization). And, again, that is not theory. Everything mentioned above is an account of actual experience.

To be continued.

Using the Deer, not Persons, As the Model

Someone asked why one suggestion in particular is often offered here, namely, using the deer as a model for natural living. He noted correctly that he could not "drop out" and move into the woods and live like a deer, as much as he might like to. He even noted that if he tried it for a while, he would probably not like that lifestyle at all.

The reason we were talking in the first place was because it had recently become clear to him that what he had been doing so far with his life was not "working," that his lifestyle was presently marked by misery and suffering and self-destructive acts rather than happiness or lightness, so he was asked: "Since your life so far has not been modeled on the deer - or anything else that lives naturally - on whom has your life been modeled?"

He answered, naming several people. Then he was asked, "And how's that been working for you?" After a pause of considerable length for consideration, his reply was: "Got it." A perceptive young man, he has seen for years how insane "the world" is. The time had arrived for him to see that he had also caught "the world's" sickness - the Ultimate Sickness - and that he needs to move the focus from "them" to "self."

So the recommendation is to use the lifestyle of the deer as a test to contrast (a) natural, ego-free, Nisarga style, AS IF living with (b) the lifestyle of personas and their accompanying egotism. Further, the invitation is to avoid taking the recommendation so literally if one is to find all that can be revealed by the suggestion.

Those with some insight and analytical skills can look beyond the most basic and literal conclusion that "This guy says I have to move to the woods and live like a deer to be happy. That is insane."

To the contrary, the wise know that one cannot be content if one is not free; the wise can see by observation that deer are quite content most of the time; the wise can see the connection between being content and being perfectly and totally free; the wise can then find what the deer is free of that persons are not free of; then the wise can find what they are not free of that the deer are free of; and then the wise can see exactly what they must be rid of if they would be free and content.

A deer is free of the desire to be seen and to “stand out.” It will typically do what is required to blend in with its environment and “fade into the background.” A deer does not like to make noise and does not want to be heard. It can move along a thousand-yard path through the woods and tread so gently that a human ten steps away would not hear it.

A deer has no “mind” so it engages in no abnormal thinking. A deer lives naturally, not unnaturally and not supernaturally. A deer does not care about appearance, is not cruel, is not envious, and does not feel entitled; a deer is not unavailable to its mate and offspring because the deer have not been rendered hard and cold and cruel and detached as a result of that all-too-common type of cold-blooded conditioning and programming referenced in earlier;

a deer is not afraid of the quiet, is not impulsive, is not religious or spiritual; a deer is not self-contradictory or moody or unpredictable or unstable; a deer will not overeat, does not like chaos, and does not eat fermented berries in an effort to become intoxicated and to try to “escape” or avoid whatever challenges it must face.

By contrast, a person / persona that is working to establish and maintain a false image wants to be seen. Persons typically do what is required to stand out and to be noticed. Persons exhibit arrogance and egotism, and as they work to create and maintain an image, they want to be heard.

Persons hate the silence and love the noise . . . especially the noise that they generate, including speeches, informal talks, sermons, diatribes, loud music, lectures, appearances, screaming, shouting, etc.

Persons, with their incessantly-active “minds,” are constantly engaged with and disturbed by their abnormal thoughts. Persons live unnaturally or supernaturally instead of naturally, and persons are often addicted to chaos.

They often use substances or certain destructive behaviors to try to escape, or at least to forget temporarily, the misery or suffering or boredom or turmoil that comes with all of the roles that they have assumed and are playing.

Persons trapped in their ego-based narcissism must surround themselves with other persons in order to have an audience. They need to be seen, and they require constant praise and applause and positive feedback. The deer experience no narcissism.

Narcissism is labeled as a “personality disorder” by professionals, and rightly so. Humans must be attached to one or more personas in order to exhibit the traits of any personality disorder. Deer have no personality, so they have no personality disorders that can disintegrate into full-blown mental problems or even insanity.

As a result of their egotism and body-mind-personality identification, persons care about appearance, can be charming one moment and cruel the next, and can be close one moment and distant the next; the deer, by contrast, are like one that has realized fully: free of learned ignorance, steady as a rock, and capable of feeling but incapable of emoting.

Persons, unlike the deer, are envious, feel entitled, are afraid of the quiet, are impulsive, often assume religious or spiritual personas, and are self-contradictory or moody or unpredictable as a result of living a lie and refusing to see that their personality / personalities bring defects and liabilities that mark and mar their relative existence.

Thus, the invitation to look at the “standard,” the deer, to test the degree to which natural living is happening in the relative existence. The deer never fails as a model for applying the principles of Nisarga Yoga:

the deer lives naturally, does not accumulate, has no identity, engages in no destructive or self-destructive behaviors, avoids conflict whenever possible, follows a minimalist lifestyle, avoids excess in all ways, might have a mate and offspring or might not, adheres strictly to the principle of non-attachment, and stays aware and conscious of his surroundings rather than walking about as if asleep.

To know if you are trapped in one or more ego-states, find the honest answer to the question, “Are you living in the fashion of a deer, or are you living the way that the sleepwalking, non-realized human masses are living out their relative existence?”

To be continued.

What Else AS IF Living Looks Like

Next, AS IF living is marked by clarity, sanity, Wisdom and True Love; therefore, it is appropriate at this juncture in the discussion to answer three other questions that have been raised about the way non-personal, spontaneous, AS IF functioning happens after completing the third leg of the three-leg "journey," after realizing fully, and after Wisdom and True Love begin to direct all that happens.

It has been asked:

"If Maharaj was True Love, could True Love ever possibly abandon or run off a seeker? I love my child, and no matter what the child does, I could not abandon it."

First, do not mistake "love" and "Love." True Love is that which manifests when the Oneness is known and understood, unwaveringly. It is pure and unadulterated and exists in only one form, so it is REAL. As for "love," it is not REAL, not eternal, appearing in so many diverse forms that seldom will any two people really be discussing the same thing when they talk of "love."

That which is not Real Love always involves an object; Real Love has no object, for to have an object is to have a subject, and to have a subject and object is duality.

That which is not Real Love can take a variety of forms: self-love; selfish, self-serving love; prurient or eros love; philia (brotherly) or storge (friendship / familial) love; agape love; pragma love (where a person - coldly - pursues a relationship for "practical" or financial reasons or for personal gain, as practiced by males and females who are willing to assume the persona and pay the price of playing the role of "A Lifestyle Whore");

banquet love (as practiced by those who want to use - sexually - as many other persons as possible in order to build up their own self-esteem or "Super Lover" / "Super Stud" reputation; passionate love; compassionate love; ludus love (where the deal is about playing games and not wanting to really develop a relationship); or manic, obsessive love which can be intense and intimate and fast-paced but will also eventually expose the possessive and jealous nature of the manic one.

(And it is such possessiveness and jealousy, combined with obsessive and compulsive personality traits, that often lead to acts of domestic violence.)

A few over the years have told me "I like falling in love more than actually being in love," revealing a whole new set of really screwed up belief systems and roles to play as well as the presence of unresolved trauma.

Next, with so many versions of "love" out there, consider the confusion among the masses when a man tells a woman, "I love you." Ah, such excitement, such emotional intoxication, but what if the speaker is (maybe even unconsciously) speaking of ludus love but the woman thinks she is hearing an expression of whatever she takes "real love" to be?

With non-realized persons speaking about "love" when there are so many versions out there, consider how prevalent the possibility of misunderstanding; then, understand also why many will hear at some point: "I never loved you" or "You have never loved me." It was asked once, "Isn't it unbelievable that the divorce rate here is now in the fifty to sixty percent range?" The reply: "Yes. I would have guessed it would be much higher."

So when you equate your agape love for a child with the essence of Maharaj, namely, True Love (as well as Wisdom), then you are comparing apples and oranges. Neither Maharaj nor I have ever abandoned a seeker or run off a seeker (though some will tell you otherwise after the work with them came to a quick halt here).

The work with any given seeker will come to an end when (a) the seeker becomes interested in another teaching method or yoga; when (b) a seeker driven by personality and egotism would interrupt the opportunity for other seekers to receive pointers;

when (c) a seeker makes clear that the readiness is not present; when (d) a seeker continuously takes comments personally rather than considering pointers or suggestions objectively; when (e) the seeker continues to cling to the notion that he / she understands more than the teacher;

or when (f) the seeker "fires" the teacher (always as a result of being driven by the fears and desires of personalities that preempt any chance for one to Realize and then have the ability to choose rather than to be blindly driven by ego and ego-states).

For Maharaj to demand that a person leave the loft was not to abandon that person - the person not being real at all; instead, True Love was on display as the purity of the environment was being guarded and preserved for the other seekers that were present.

Some ask: "If the realized are True Love, how could Love call people 'stupid' and 'insane'? Doesn't sound too loving to me."

Understand that no "one" is being called anything. When personality is being discussed with seekers, and they become offended when they begin to see their "liabilities" or "weaknesses" or "defects," the point is made that no one is talking about Them, about their True Selves. What is being discussed are all of the "not-thems," all of their false personas.

And it is the "not-thems" - their false personas - that generate insane thoughts and words and stupid actions.

Understand also that neither Wisdom nor True Love are personal; therefore, neither can have an agenda, for agendas exist only in the domain of personality; know that neither can fail to be objective; and understand that neither can like or dislike.

Any seeker who has been offended, either there with Maharaj in Bombay / Mumbai or here, has misperceived the pointers or suggestions being offered or the actual "intention" behind the pointers or suggestions, for neither Wisdom nor True Love can be non-objective.

With Wisdom and True Love behind every pointer offered, either

(A) clarity will be affirmed,

or

(B) distorted perceptions and false beliefs and erroneous concepts and delusional conclusions will be challenged xx(much to the chagrin of whatever personas, or would-be personas, are driving one's thoughts and words and actions and attitudes).

Some have asked:

"Wouldn't True Love cause all of the realized to share what they understand?"

No. Many remain silent, but even those that share remain in the silence much of each day as well. Yet understand these points about AS IF living:

a. Some may share; some may not share what they have come to realize but will go into the silence or enjoy the solitude. Maharaj was asked about a case where a man, post-realization, became much quieter than ever before and his friend was concerned about that. Maharaj explained that now he is quiet more of the time. Later, he may not talk at all.

b. Post-realization, and post-completion of the third leg of the three-leg "journey," there is no one left to teach or share. Teaching or (un-teaching) or sharing can happen, but they will happen without any notion of there being "A Teacher" or "An Un-Teacher" or "A Sharer."

The understanding is applied without any belief in "An Applier"; the experience of full realization happens and, in the process, ends belief in "An Experiencer."

The same applies in every facet of the relative existence where Reality is overlaid on reality, where Awareness is overlaid on consciousness, and where the Absolute understanding eliminates any further lack of clarity regarding relative happenings.

Then, "wifing" can happen even in the absence of "A Wife"; "husbanding" can happen even in the absence of "The Husband"; and Loving can happen even in the absence of "The lover" or "The Lover."

That, too, is what AS IF living looks like.

Why, Even After Everything Else, "The Vision" Was Still Required for AS IF Living to Manifest

The point was offered that it took a vision which came one afternoon while in the theta state of consciousness to finally "break the code" being used by so many teachers.

Maharaj asked: "Are you talking from your own experience or from books only? Your book knowledge is useful to begin with, but soon it must be given up for direct experience."

"The Vision," provided the first-hand, direct "experience" which was required.

What is offered here is based in direct experience. No one need read and master the content of anything erroneously called "a holy text." In an age when travel has become so expensive that seekers cannot always sit with a teacher face-to-face, might certain books as mentioned by Maharaj help uncover that which is being sought? A few can.

But here, it was - in the end - that direct experience via a vision which allowed for the understanding that did not come from reading scores of books by those Maharaj dismissed as "the big name teachers." That direct experience understanding is what is being shared here.

As noted, the content of the vision allowed for an understanding of the fact that "the journey" has three parts or legs; and, an understanding of exactly how that "journey" must happen; and, an understanding of what happens after "the journey" is completed so that the remainder of the relative existence can happen in a not-insane, non-stupid, not-ignorant, non-fluctuating, non-chaotic, not-unstable fashion and in a totally AS IF manner.

[How widespread is the present need for an effective treatment plan for the Ultimate Sickness which is marked by "insanity, stupidity, ignorance" (per Maharaj) and by psychological and mental fluctuations, chaos, and instability?

Artist and political illustrator Jon Berkeley of Dublin, Ireland summed up the current global "mindset" when he observed, "The supply of weapons-grade lunacy in every corner of the globe seems to have ramped up."

Yes, just "ramped up" because the lunacy among humans on the planet has already long been present; however, rarely in the modern history of humanity on planet earth have there been so many national leaders who have come into power at the same time and who are

(1) all modeling through-the-roof levels of the key symptoms of the Ultimate Sickness which Maharaj identified as "ignorance, stupidity, and insanity" and whose followers are

(2) relating to and embracing and espousing their leaders' through-the-roof levels of "ignorance, stupidity, and insanity" and then increasing and amplifying that "ignorance, stupidity, and insanity" into even higher levels.

If there happened to be intelligent beings presently exploring the planets in the Milky Way Galaxy, those in their Mission Control Center will have surely already coded into their guidance systems a message which pops up anytime the space travelers are on a course to intercept planet earth which would warn: "Detour! Detour! Current heading will lead you into a Totally Batshit Crazy Zone of Abject Darkness Where You Will Be Hated and Slaughtered Because You Appear to Be Different! You must take evasive action! Detour now!"

And that is the message which "realized teachers" have been offering for centuries:

Abandon the path you have been on and re-route onto a path which will allow you to avoid the ignorance which you have been taught and the insanity which has been forced upon you.

In addition to Berkeley, another Dublin, Ireland political activist and playwright named George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950) also saw the mental condition of the masses on planet earth long before Berkeley saw it.

When Shaw was asked if he believed that there was intelligent life on other planets, his answer went something like this:

Of course there is - and they are using earth as their insane asylum.

One of G.B. Shaw's older covers:

 One of Jon Berkeley's newest covers:

And of course the consciousness is registering another linkage with Dublin because that is where my Grandfather's relatives sailed from in the late 1840's to reach the U.S. As with Shaw and Berkeley, my Irish-heritage Grandfather was not one who ever suffered fools gladly because he never arrogantly saw himself as being exceptionally wise, though by many accounts he seemed to relish the specks of wisdom which Grandmother received via her Cherokee elders and shared with him.

He, too, marched to the beat of a different drummer, rebelling against those who were among the white, anti-indigenous-peoples and marrying a woman of Native American heritage.

Some of those who were starving during the Irish potato famine were able to book steerage class passage on an ocean liner and find their way to the U.S. Many of them seemed to share with the indigenous peoples the ability to see farther and to see more clearly than most of the other typical white, European occupiers of this land. Why?

It was explained to me that by the time Grandmother and Grandfather met, both the Irish and the Native Americans had been exposed to the Ultimate Sickness which the British had been spreading around the globe throughout their "Age of Colonialism" as they invaded and occupied foreign lands and controlled some 25% of the people on the planet.

That left both grandparents with first-hand experiences with duality and insane and arrogant leaders which allowed those grandparents to understand the curse of duality and the effects which nations can exert when they and their leaders display the kind of ruthlessness which all sociopathic and psychopathic leaders - and their followers - display.]

To continue:

What happens after the third leg of the "the journey" is completed is . . . AS IF living, living AS IF anything in the relative matters but knowing via a new perspective that it is all really just much ado about nothing; however, that point must be clarified so that nihilism and numbness do not manifest. Dancing is much ado about nothing as well, but it can nevertheless be quite entertaining.

After the third leg of "the journey" is complete, the "fully realized" do not miss out on entertainment. They relish it. They share it. Lightness replaces heaviness, and fun replaces drabness, and the Fully Realized invite all to join them in dancing lightly and having fun.

The understanding of the functioning of the totality comes when seekers "go back" and revisit the Absolute by following the exact steps by which they came in, but in reverse order, of course. And it is the subsequent understanding of the functioning of the totality that puts all in perspective, including THAT and "this" as well, "this" being the relative existence . . . this AM-ness . . . this beingness.

After that, then a natural mode of living replaces the former unnatural and supernatural modes of living. Consider the 14 million-year history of human-like or human beings on the planet: was it natural for those early humans to burn incense, or hum or chant, or knell and rise and knell, or bang on special bowls on special pillows with special sticks to "help them make it through the night" (as so many nowadays are not able to do at all in a natural manner - most among the masses instead being unable to sleep, unable to rest, unable to stop the noisy "mind," unable to be at peace at all)?

Or did they simply live? They lived, and according to anthropological research, they lived in a simple and natural manner: they slept, they awoke, they spent approximately 2.5 hours per day involved with "the necessities" of food hunting or food gathering (according to anthropologists); also, they had sex and procreated, and they faced what had to be faced when relative events became challenging events. And through it all, they had no "holy texts" to guide them, and they needed none.

And because you are now sitting before a screen and reading this, you are evidence of the fact that millions of years of living naturally rather than unnaturally or supernaturally actually worked. They "made it," and they made it without any of the drama of unnatural living and without the needless effort and unnatural restrictions of trying to live supernaturally.

Yes, early on, Maharaj did reference certain points from certain texts, but in the end he only shared by way of what he called his "own experience."

"I am telling you from experience," he said.

The same is the case here, even though it is known, paradoxically, that there is no "experiencer" at all except to this degree:

Maharaj: "Behold, the real 'experiencer' is not the mind, but myself, the Light in which everything appears. [The True] Self is the common factor at the root of all experience, the awareness in which everything happens," (that "True Self" being nothing more than the Pure Witnessing).

Consider as well:

Maharaj: "Can you truly say you were not before you were born, and can you possibly say when dead ‘Now I am no more’? You cannot say from your own experience that you are not. You can only say ‘I am’."

That is a marker of the AS IF living that happens when the Nisarga Yoga's core message is understood. You can only say (or know) "I am." The deer know that same "I am"; the birds know that same "I am"; the fish know that same "I am." And how simply and naturally do the deer and birds and fish live? Totally.

And how simply and naturally do the non-realized masses live? Not simply or naturally at all. Now, one seeker asked this: "You and Maharaj share non-duality teachings. Cavemen did not do that. How can you say you are living naturally?" The most basic and relevant fact is this: no "one" is sharing or teaching.

Post-realization, Pure Wisdom and Pure Love manifest. It is natural for Wisdom (via the True Self, that is, via the Pure Witnessing) to witness what is happening and to recognize words and thoughts and behaviors which are evidence of nonsense and self-deception and ignorance and distortion.

That happens even as those being driven by such thoughts and words and deeds are sure that their thoughts are right and their beliefs are right and what they are saying is sensible and not at all self-deceiving and not ignorant but wise and free of any distortion at all.

It is wisdom alone which provides the ability to differentiate the true from the false, so that happens when the consciousness detects falsehoods. Then, True Love takes over and the consciousness - not a teacher and not a guru and not a person - might speak (and if it does, then it speaks from the platform of Pure Awareness).

It is True Love, speaking in that fashion, which accounts for the sharing of these teachings, and what is seen or heard is what inspires the various pointers offered.

For example, some person might have been heard saying something that evidenced such a level of narcissism and arrogance that it shocked the unblocked consciousness into offering a pointer toward the humble truth; or some person might have spoken of "their lover" or "their spouse" with unbelievably glowing words (words that showed such delusion, words that revealed so many outlandish misperceptions, and words that exposed such a denial of the facts before one's very eyes) that the unblocked consciousness here will speak and try to point to the truth that is actually 180-degrees opposite of what is being stated;

or some person might have been making statements that amounted to such a blatant distorting of the facts and such a desire to put a spin on reality that the consciousness spontaneously and automatically attempts to redirect the speaker toward the truth. (In almost all cases, though, the hidden fears and desires of their personalities will block persons from hearing pointers to truth that run contrary to their motives and agendas.)

But note: as that which is rooted in Pure Wisdom and True Love is happening spontaneously on one front, on another front this composite unity called "floyd" - functioning in an AS IF manner - eats and sleeps and laughs and plays and enjoys conversation on occasion and loves the silence on occasion and delights in sex-that-expresses-the-shared-sense-of-Oneness on occasion; it is also via that composite unity that a few jokes or some humorous observations are shared in order to lighten the day of other composite unities that might be encountered.

And that is all totally natural. It is all a part of the AS IS mode of living that follows the completion of all three legs of "the journey." So, what is to be understood at this point about AS IF living?

In the glossary of terms in the back of the book FROM THE I TO THE ABSOLUTE, the following is offered in regards to AS IF Living:

AS IF Living: The style of living that the Realized exhibit, seemingly living like persons but without persons’ attachments, delusions, and emotional intoxication; the manner in which the Realized “finish out” the manifestation, meeting “responsibilities” and providing for the space while knowing full well that “this world” is nothing more than an imagining in the distorted perceptions of persons;

AS IF Living: a lifestyle that is unencumbered with detachment and emotional intoxication and belief in the lies of the culture; a lifestyle free of game playing and image perpetuation; a lifestyle unmarred by the emotions and emotional intoxication experienced by persons; a lifestyle during which the Realized can witness feelings rise and fall without any emotional intoxication, without reacting, without over-reacting, and without setting off a chain of reactions (as happens with persons);

AS IF Living: a lifestyle free of the misery that is generated by the desires / fears of personas.

While functioning in an “AS IF fashion,” the consciousness can register feelings but will not register emotions and emotional intoxication (such intoxication being limited to the domain of ego-states).

Consider: Maharaj, though abiding in an AS IF fashion, might appear to have been emotionally-intoxicated when he threw out of his loft those who showed up as an ego-state and who were trapped in egotism and wanted to show off their spiritual knowledge (a.k.a., learned ignorance). He was not emotional. That speck of consciousness knew that an arrogance-free, ego-free environment was required for the other visitors to receive a message about being arrogant-free and ego-free.

So, the pointers offered here are rooted in Nisarga Yoga—the teachings which invite persons to be rid of their belief in the fallacious body-mind-personality triad and to then live naturally, to take it easy, to relax, to just BE and to forget the illusion of DOING or needing to DO or the existence and experiences of a DO-ER.

(By the way: such pointers will appear to be very strange to those who are trying to follow a knowledge path, a worship path, an action path, or a service path. So it is. Those paths are available for discussion elsewhere.)

TODAY'S CONSIDERATIONS

(NEW OFFER: See the end of this post for details regarding a seven-hour streaming video of a retreat with Floyd Henderson, now available at half price)

If Teachers Do Not Know All of the Steps on the Entire Path

The case here and the case with Andy Gugar (who is the editor of "The Advanced Seekers' Series" and "The Blissful Abidance Series") ran parallel: there was triggered very early on what would prove to be a too-long-lasting longing which led to decades of seeking and searching .

As was also the case with both, the road which was traveled here before "the Advaita path" was crossed, by chance, was a long and grueling and onerous road. The "journey" had been quite arduous.

Happening upon certain words and names such as "advaita" and "non-duality" and "Maharaj" - and then entering into a thorough study of those - aroused some hope; however, after so many years of searching in vain, the hope took on a more cautious and guarded nature; thus, many instances of hope were dashed along the way, time and again.

The restraint was warranted. Along with the words of Maharaj in I AM THAT - which he later advised seekers to stop reading - the words and writings of more than fifty non-duality teachers were read, and while each of them may have been able to guide other seekers somewhere,

A. not a one of them presented the teachings in a way which provided the necessary "Aha! Moment" here;

B. not a one provided the final, search-ending flash of the peripetia

C. not a one ignited the gunpowder that finally blew away all of the blockages which had been built up via programming, conditioning, acculturation and domestication;

D. not a one offered the Ultimate Medicine in a manner which finally brought to an end the misery of the Ultimate Sickness which had generated suffering for decades;

and

E. not a one made clear the means by which

(1) full realization

and

(2) the ability to abide naturally and normally and steadily and Lovingly and simply and sanely and enjoyably throughout the remainder of the AM-ness

could both happen.

Yes, there were years in the deepest pits of despair; yes, there were years where the head was in the clouds and a parade of even-more-obnoxious-personas-than-before all came and went, including "Floyd the Religious One" and "Floyd the Spiritual Giant" and "Floyd the Lofty Thinker" and "Floyd the Supreme Self."

Even as talk of "the Oneness" happened, the fact is that there was a greater sense of separation while playing those roles than during any of the darkest days of the past. And part of that happened even after finding and exploring the many different "brands" of non-duality.

All of the talk of "the path" and "the journey" proved to be a disservice for it implied that the there was "a path" that could be followed to its end and I would "arrive" somewhere;

and all of that talk also suggested that, if I would but complete "the journey," I would arrive at a destination which was "there" - well away from "this world" which had rendered a Type Four Personality (the type that accounts for only 1-2 of 1% of the earth's population) feeling quite the alien on this planet.

What was the missing element in the explanations and talks by all of those teachers who talked of "the path" and "the journey"? What was missing was the key fact that there is not one passage that is to be completed but that there are actually three in total. Even if one wants to claim that there is but "one journey," then it must be made clear that the journey has three legs.

And Maharaj's earliest statements (which were his only statements that were read originally) seemed to point to a two-leg "journey":

“. . . You should go back, reverse, to the source”

and

“Follow the same path by which you came.”

it becomes clear that the early emphasis was not solely on the ultimate "goal" of abiding naturally. The "totally unadulterated version of a purely Nisarga message" came years later.

Most teachers, gurus, religious leaders, and spiritual guides, not understanding all of the steps on the entire path, never guide seekers beyond the third step where religious and spiritual roles are assumed and played for the remainder of the manifestation.

Those who visited Maharaj were, for years, stuck at the third step where religious roles are assumed and played for the remainder of the manifestation.

When "spirituality-seeking" Westerners began showing up in the loft ans then returned to their homes, they also fixated at the third step and played out their spiritual or Noumenal roles for the remainder of the manifestation.

The same happened with those coming to "floyd" for guidance. Where "he" was stuck, they too became stuck.

So in the process of seeking along an incomplete non-dual "path," there was . . .

a fruitless search for "the exact way";

an unsuccessful search for all of the steps required to travel the entire "path";

a futile search for the means by which "the journey" could finally be completed once and for all,

and, therefore,

an unproductive search for the way to reach "the final destination" of "the journey" and abide naturally thereafter.

It took a vision that came one afternoon while leaving the delta level of consciousness and entering into a theta state of consciousness to finally "break the code" being used by so many teachers and understand

** what the entire three-leg "journey" involves,

** how only one-leg of "the journey" will happen with the masses,

** how an entire three-part "journey" must happen if one would realize fully (meaning, per Maharaj, "being completely free of all learned ignorance")

and

** what happens after "the journey" is completed so that the remainder of the relative existence can happen in a not-insane, non-stupid, not-ignorant, non-fluctuating, non-chaotic, not-unstable, but totally steady and logical AS IF manner instead.

That manner is marked by freedom and joy and peace.

Moreover, it is marked by the presence of an ability - when freedom and joy and peace are challenged - to merely witness whatever events the relative existence might toss one's way and which might fall outside the categorization of "perfectly tranquil happenings," to process  the effects and to then move on.

Thus, the discussion will continue with an explanation of what AS IF living looks like post-realization and after the third and final leg of "the journey" has been completed.

To be continued.

Why All of the First Three Legs of "The Journey" Must Be Completed in Order to Abide Naturally

For the masses, the manifestation-to-mahasamadhi process is distorted as a result of their having completed only one leg of a three-leg "journey" (which they take to be a "birth-to-death-to-eternal-life" journey).

For the masses, their one-leg-only "journey" entails (a) manifestation, (b) undergoing the step-seven process of disintegration that moves one from the awareness / Absolute state and to (c) being left in that delusional condition which is the fartherest removed from Reality, namely, body identification.

Completing that one leg of what is actually a three-leg "journey" is all that will happen with most persons because they will never seek. On the "coming in" leg, most will be introduced to religious or spiritual personas and will be guided by their programmers to stay there.

Their "guide" will only guide them as far as the third of seven steps, so 97% on the planet now claim an affiliation with some organized religion. Millions more claim membership in what they see as "their special spiritual-not-religious program."

(That is stated with [1] the greatest degree of egotism and sense of better-than-ment via the implied assertion that "we are so far beyond where those religious people are" while at the same time claiming that they have been freed of [2] their "former" great degree of egotism and their "former" sense of better-than-ment.)

For the few who do seek realization via non-duality, many undertake only a two-leg "journey," having first undergone the "coming in" leg and then completing the "going back" leg and thereafter claiming that they abide "there" or as THAT alone.

For the "fully realized" that understand the Nisarga Yoga as well, a three-leg "journey" is completed, but first, consider this: it has been said that neurotics build castles in the air, that psychotics move into those castles, and that therapists and psychiatrists collect the rent.

Many receive only enough of the non-duality teachings that they end up at some point between building the castle and moving in, not totally psychotic but definitively neurotic.

Driven by personality - and the hidden agendas of personality as well as the varying degrees of mental disorders that accompany personality assumption and personality disintegration - many will display certain beliefs and traits and behavioral patterns that are near-psychotic.

Full realization, if reached via the Direct Path Method and the Nisarga Yoga, will allow for the completion of all three legs of the three-leg "journey" and will allow for the understanding that this "journey" - this process - is not about "being uniquely and singularly THAT"; they will understand that enlightenment actually lightens;

they will understand, as a result of having completed all three legs of the three-leg "journey," that Full realization is not about a lightness of THAT; and they will understand that the post-realization lightness is actually the lightness of being, the lightness of the I-AM-ness.

They alone will be the ones being bathed in the full light of the noonday sun, and they alone will know the lightness and relish it. Because the summative statement "I AM THAT; I AM" has nothing to do with two-ness, then the realized can fixate as THAT and as this AM-ness, "simultaneously."

That fixation can happen, though, only when Reality is overlaid - so to speak - on the relative, only when the "reality" is cloaked in Reality, so to speak.

It is the one-leg "journey" which results in the misery and suffering and chaos that are typical among the non-Realized masses of the planet.

Completion of the two-leg "journey" will typically result in persons taking themselves to be deep philosophers or some really boring "Supreme This" or "Supreme That" or some overly-serious persons who claim to be beyond the personal, beyond the beingness, and even beyond the beyond.

Having received only the dim light of the dawn, there is among those types a drabness that marks and mars their existence as a result of being far too serious, too grave, too solemn, too stern, too grim, too humorless, and far too severe overall.

Having completed only two legs of the three-leg "journey," many adopt labels that trap them in ignorance while thinking they are brilliant, believing that they have learned something momentous that has rendered them important and significant and crucial. They are not, yet they are not, dualistically, unimportant or insignificant or slight, either.

The fully realized understand that they just are. It is totally clear that the I AM just IS. That is a significant part of what the Nisarga Yoga is about. In the process of completing all three legs, the seekers that finally realize fully will have "come in," gone "back out," and then "come back in" (but in a totally different fashion the second time "in").

Humans that have completed all three legs will once again be in touch with their original nature, so natural living can happen.

A lightness of being can mark the beingness, so humans can continue throughout the remainder of the relative existence to live in an AS IF manner that puts them on the same track as all other forms / spaces that are abiding naturally: the deer, the birds, the fish, etc.

Because the Nisarga Yoga allows the original-but-lost sanity to be restored, then the abidance unfolds in the same manner as that among all forms / spaces that abide sanely (i.e., naturally rather than unnaturally or supernaturally).

It should also be clear at this point why a "fully realized guide" is usually required for the "journey": some guides will guide their followers to the third step and encourage them to fixate in their religious or spiritual persona / false identity;

some will guide seekers to that wasteland (which is mistaken for some kind of lotusland) which is somewhere between the building of castes in the air and moving into those mental castles which are far removed from reality or Reality either one;

but only a few will guide seekers that have completed one-leg of the journey through all of the going-back steps on the second leg and then through all of the steps on the coming-back-in-again leg.

An experienced escort is also required for the non-optional, guide-directed self-inquiry which must be completed thoroughly and honestly before the Self-Inquiry phase of the "journey" can be completed. Why? Maharaj included "learned ignorance," "stupidity," and "insanity" among what must be removed along the "path."

Yet what chance is there that ignorance can recognize ignorance, that stupidity can see stupidity, or that insanity can spot insanity?

At best, the axioms that reference psychological projection ("if you spot it, you've got it" and "if you can see it, you can be it") might apply. Just as the selfish are the most likely to see selfishness in others without seeing it in themselves, and just as arrogant persons are most likely to detect arrogance in others, so it is that

a. those who are not being objective have been the ones to most readily assert that "Floyd, you cannot be objective"; or so it is that

b. those who are misperceiving everything have been the one to most readily say, "Floyd, you just don't see what I'm doing here, and it most certainly is not what you are suggesting"; or so it is that some have said

c. "I am the one who has found it all and you are the one who is misrepresenting major parts of the understanding."

So it has been said to be on occasion, but so it is not. All such claims are generated by the egotism that comes along with their ego-states which are being supported by the blinding arrogance that will set the stage for those who have completed one-half of one leg of a "journey" to claim "I have arrived!";

it is ignorance that will inspire those who have complete two legs of a three-leg 'journey" to assert "It is I who have truly arrived!"; and it is only the clarity and humility of knowing that one has not yet arrived that might allow some seekers to accept the guidance required from one that has traveled all three legs of the three-leg "journey" and thereby assist those seekers with the completion of all three legs of the entire "journey."

If they complete all three legs, then they can abide as their Original Nature for the remainder of the manifestation and live out the relative existence is a Nisarga - natural - fashion.

 To be continued.
NEW OFFER:

Watch an updated seven-hour streaming video of a retreat with Floyd Henderson - for 50% off - for a limited time.

Since the new setup for the video is "automated" now, I have been considering the reduced cost of providing it. The office assistant will no longer have to be paid for processing each sale (going into the download site; creating a new username and password for each sale; contacting the buyer and providing the download link and username and password; then going back in later and deleting usernames and passwords, etc.) Now, with it fully automated, I don't have that expense so have been considering running a sale on the new video for awhile and seeing if we might be able to share the message with more seekers who cannot attend a retreat.

Yesterday one man who noticed the new format wrote to mention the key role that the video played in his realization process. This morning, Bill (a regular visitor to the site), wrote to say, "Glad to see you are offering your 7 hour retreat online. I watched it more than once on the DVD’s. My memory of a very poignant point within is an exchange with you and Andy, where he wrestles with and states correctly something like 'I see what you are saying but it is very hard to give up something (a cherished or ingrained belief) you have believed your whole life'.”

 [That's Andy next to me on the right side of the table]:

Receiving testimonies about the video's results for two days in a row was enough to convince me to follow through and offer the video at the reduced price.

The streaming video can be accessed by anyone, anywhere on the planet with internet access. If you are interested, then . . .
