To review:
That which is natural is rooted in non-duality; all which involves unnatural thinking and / or supernatural thinking is rooted in duality.
Whether speaking of Maharaj's lesser focus on the Nisarga Yoga in the beginning or discussing his near-total focus on abiding naturally in the end (as opposed to trying to live supernaturally and / or unnaturally), it is granted that all of that is relevant only to the AM-ness, but presently, what happens in the AM-ness impacts every person far more than anything to do with the THAT-ness.
So, to continue with excerpts from the book Why NISARGA YOGA in addition to the Advaita Teachings? as considerations about the Nisarga (natural) fashion of abidance are offered:
Hindrances to Nisarga Living
There has been a history of persons who want more than "conscious contact" with a god or gods. There is, in fact, a long history of persons who have claimed that they have transcended the dualistic, subject-object arrangement of conscious contact with god and have actually become at one with God and are therefore gods as well.”
Persons will never be able to live in the Nisarga fashion if they want to live in a supernatural fashion. No persons can ever live in the Nisarga fashion if they have a belief that there is some external, supernatural power that they can align with, tap into, or—as some believe—become.
Persons can never live in the Nisarga fashion if they are trapped in ego-states that are supported by egotism. Persons can never live in the Nisarga fashion if they are driven to have power or if they think dualistically that they can be at one with some supernatural power. "At one" is non-duality; "with" is duality.
Is it understood that the very notion that “A” can be at one with “B” is duality? Is it understood that persons cannot live in the Nisarga fashion if they believe the notion that “I am not ‘at one with’ the power but believe instead that I am actually that power (or supernatural being)”?
If there is even one ego-state that a person is clinging to, then egotism is supporting the false beliefs that (A) the person is real; that (B) the persona has legitimate, reality-based desires that need to be met; that (C) the person can attain the power and control required to bring about all that it desires;
that (D) it can tap into some external, outer power that exists to control all and to bring about every desire a person has; and that (E) the persona is “at-one” with God, thus being—for all practical purposes—God.
All fear and desire is rooted in one or more false ego-states. To want is to be in delusion, requiring the belief that a false self with a desire is real; furthermore, it does not matter if the want is what your culture says is a “bad” desire (e.g., wanting your neighbor’s wife), or if the want is what your culture says is a “good” desire (e.g., wanting to be at one with god, in conscious contact with god, being god . . . whatever).
As always, look not to "the one you think has attained the level of spirituality that you want" for your model. Look instead to the no-religion-at-all-and-the-no-spirituality-at-all-deer for your model if you would live in a Nisarga fashion.
The deer is not focused on seeking anything or being at one with anything. It is not seeking to connect with some external power to gain control. It has no desire, not even a desire to eat grass. The eating of grass happens spontaneously, without plan. You will never live naturally if you "want what Maharaj had," if you “want what floyd has,” if you “want what your guru has,” or if you “want what anyone whom you are idolizing has.”
You will never live naturally if you believe that there is a god (or gods) in other worlds that are controlling what is happening in this world.
You will never live naturally if you believe that you can be at one with something else (since that is a dualistic belief) and you can never live naturally if you assume any identity, including “I am that which is at one with god / with the god force / with the god head / with the personal power of the universe.”
The ultimate realization which can free you to live in the Nisarga fashion without fluctuation is this:
Every pagan religion (a.k.a., “all current religions”) as well as every cult, sect, ideology, creed, dogma, doctrine, spiritual movement, and spiritual philosophy has at its core the notion that humans can be “at one” with god. From that comes desiring, and from desiring comes misery and fluctuation.
When believing that one's desires are being met, happiness happens; when seeing that the desires are never met consistently, misery happens. Yet the masses are trapped in personality, so notions about god and god's power and at-one-ment and godliness and being god set the stage for the manifestation of the personality disorders that most professionals claim are the most difficult to treat:
1. The Narcissistic Personality Disorder (tantamount to The God Complex Personality Disorder)
and
2. The Sociopath Personality Disorder.
Both disorders produce the belief that “I am the greatest, the ultimate. My desires trump the desires of all others,” and both disorders result in persons being unstable . . . constantly in a state of flux . . . never consistently being treated in the fashion desired and never able to sustain control on a continuing basis.
Thus, the narcissist is always in a state of fluctuation . . . happy when able to manipulate others and when able to receive the levels of respect and attention and adulation and positive feedback that ego desires but unhappy when persons do not consistently provide those levels of respect and attention and adulation and positive feedback that the narcissist desires.
And the sociopath is always in a state of fluctuation . . . happy when able to control and intimidate others but unhappy when persons do not consistently follow orders and meet the (totally unreasonable) demands and expectations as set forth by one living in the ego-state of "The Boss" or "The Controller" or "The One Who Should Have the Ultimate Say in All Matters."
Those two personality disorders, which account for much of the sense of separation on the planet as well as the arrogance and fighting and killing and wars, are both rooted in an "I am god" mentality.
Among those trapped at the third of the seven steps in the movement from (a) identification with the false “I” to (b) understanding the Absolute and all beyond, it is a short step from believing that “I am godly” to “I am at one with god” to “I am god.”
Once the "I am god" belief manifests, then persons believe that they are entitled to all of the rights and privileges of a god, including being worshiped by everyone and worshiped with "body, heart, mind, and soul." And that is the case in spite of any claim to "god-inspired humility."
Historically, it has been organized religions, cults, sects, ideologies, creeds, dogma, doctrines, spiritual movements, and spiritual philosophies that have encouraged and supported the "I am god and you are god" types of grandiosity.
To take the short step from “I am at one with god” to “ergo, I am god” is to assume another false identity. When Realization happens via the Nisarga Yoga, all identity assumption ends.
How disgusting it must sound to visitors to this site who are trapped in grandiosity, who have adopted another false but supposedly divine identity, and who read, “You are nothing, and knowing that is wisdom.” Yet the fact is this: any seeker who is seeking "something" will never be stabilized in a contented state.
To the contrary, it is only the seeker that seeks nothing and finds the nothingness that can stabilize in the natural, original state. All others will be in a constant state of fluctuation and instability.
And how disgusting it must be to those in the U.S. who hear a renunciation and rejection of their concept of "American Exceptionalism," a concept based in an egotistical and delusional sense of superiority and better-than-ment.
Why reject that concept?
Because it is a damn lie which fosters the assumption of scores of false ego-states which then foster the triggering of inestimable levels of egotism to defend those false identities
and
because egotism is at the core of the false belief in different-from-ment and therefore the false belief in better-than-ment.
Moreover, both are at the root of all false sense of separation, including current newsmakers in the U.S. who are assuming false identities which are fostered by the belief in different-from-ment and better-than-ment. Such pride-inducing identifications include "White Supremacists," "White Nationalists," "Alt-Righters," "Neo-Nazis," "The Segregationists," "The Klansmen," "The Anti-Semite," "The Xenophobe," "The Sexists and Chauvinists," "The Homophobes," ad infinitum.]
Maharaj: "Renunciation of the false [including false identities] is liberating and energizing."
"Reality," Maharaj said, involves the "spontaneous and total rejection of the false" [including false beliefs, which include all beliefs as well as false personalities / personal identifications].
To be continued.
