FROM A SITE VISITOR: Your reply to Jaime about being overwhelmed at work overwhelmed me. All day Sunday, I could not even talk after reading that post. So many things of that list hit me--applied to me. I’m sure she was happy when she was hired for that job but that stopped being the case. The same has happened with my job, marriage, life, everything. I see how unhappy I really am and how far I have to go. I’ve had some bad breaks and felt at times like this whole life is so unfair—now I looking at the way we are set up to be miserable—I know that’s right now—I was set up. I’ll keep reading what you worte though it is bothersome. I do feel like the answer is in there, and I think there are directions I can use to fix myself and get free. Thanx for what you said even though it is disturbing on several levels. Geoff

F.: All cycles into sleep and out of sleep, a metaphor for the way that all cycles into manifestation and out of manifestation. In "the between," there is none of that dualistic concept called “fairness” since the pecking order in the hen yard is no different from the hierarchies in homes, in schools, at work, in communities, in nations, and across the globe as well. Thus, to be free (and thereby happy), see that in regards to the period between the manifesting and the unmanifesting, the early part means nothing, the middle part mean nothing, and the last part means nothing. It’s all much ado about nothing. Release your beliefs and move to a position of non-attachment and non-duality; then, merely witness and enjoy.

If it is “something” you want, you’ll attach to the manifestation and the things that come and go during the early, middle and later parts. If it is freedom and happiness you want, then you will take the steps required to detach from the manifestation and the fluctuations of those three relative parts. You will see that everything to which persons assign such significance is all senseless, pointless, and meaningless…all a play.

Understand that the lila is not the creative play of God or Brahman. See that it is the play of the Absolute only to the degree that it is from that “field” that consciousness manifests. See that, after that manifestation and subsequent warping of the consciousness, the play continues because the warped consciousness cannot see reality but takes the play—and its illusions and phony characters—to be real.

In that deception, the understanding is lost that “all the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players.” Soon, persons take so seriously that which is only so much posturing and strutting about on stage that they begin to react to illusions. They allow mirages to determine what they think, how they feel, and what they do. That is certainly quite insane-like, if not actually insane.

For you to think that you can "fix yourself" is also insane-like. First, there is no “you.” Secondly, it is the warped consciousness that generated those words, thus claiming in effect that the warped consciousness shall purify itself. That would be like believing that a glass of water with contaminants floating about in the liquid could cleanse itself of those impurities.

Instead, someone must pick up the glass and pour its contents through a filtering system to remove the contaminants. The role of a guru or teacher is to facilitate the process of removing the contaminants by the simple means of identifying the lies as lies, by pointing out that the play is nothing more than a play, by inviting seekers to stop believing in the phony drama, and by suggesting that the curtain be lowered on all of the needless histrionics.
If lies are seen to be lies and then discarded, the consciousness which was contaminated with ideas, concepts and lies will dissolve; afterwards, the pure consciousness will move into the foreground. Thereafter, reality will be seen and understood. Then only will the relative existence be seen as a play that can sometimes provide entertainment when a “supposedly comedic” scene is seemingly staged and can provide pathos when a “supposedly tragic” scene is seemingly played out.

Yet it is only in seeing the play as a play that the entertainment aspects can replace the emotionally-intoxicating aspects. After that differentiation between what is false and What Is Real, total independence from the actions on the stage can come, and only when total independence comes can total bliss happen.

Meanwhile, if you are relating to Jaime's experiences and to the content of the response, continue to read the reply and take each pointer into quiet consideration. PLEASE ENTER THE SILENCE OF CONTEMPLATION. (TOMORROW: A break from posting as Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday’s entertainment will be provided by the staging of a play that could be entitled, “Seekers and Satsang.”)

    CONSCIOUSNESS IN MOTION: A Journey into the Dark Abyss of the “Mind,” Part Four

    F.: The Realized are “sure” about nothing. Quite to the contrary, among the Realized there is no who to be “sure” of anything and there can be nothing to be “sure about” after having reached a state of zero concepts. Contrary to the Realized, persons are sure about everything, including their concepts, their beliefs and (especially) their perceptions—no matter how distorted those perceptions might be. For example, in Case #1 a man was seen who is sure that his problems have been caused by his wife, who is sure his family is another source of his troubles, and who is sure that his job and peers are also at fault.

    In Case #2, a woman was seen who is sure that divorce only affects children for 24 months, is sure that she was right 95% of the time in her first marriage, is sure that there’s nothing unusual about a Christian praying daily for the death of her child's father, is sure that manipulation can be “good,” and is sure that there's a god who is always focused on her…micro-managing her life and sending men with money to met her financial needs.

    Are you beginning to understand why Maharaj predicted that no more than one in a million will ever Realize (including those who sat at his feet)? Remember, too, that the three cases in this series are examples of an average level of warped consciousness. Instances of far greater degrees of warping are witnessed regularly.

    After having worked with over 6000 seekers, it can be said that such “mind” clutter (and such movement and instability of consciousness) is far more common than some might guess. Is it clear why so few will ever Realize when so many are so sure that their dualistic views and concepts and beliefs are the “right” ones? Case #3 reveals another person who is sure about things:

    CASE #3
    “I’ve lost my second job now because of a particular kind of misconduct. [Crying] I can’t believe this. It’s the same thing all over again, but these rules and laws are ridiculous. Don’t the other parties also have to be held accountable? Am I the only one at fault here? I’m so upset I’ve thrown up twice. But you know what? To hell with ‘em all. Ultimately, there’s only God’s will. I’m just a spiritual creature having a human experience, so what the hell. My problems before have worked out and they'll be worked out this time too. My faith is in God: when He closes a door, he opens a window. I really believe all of this is for my own good. I think this is going to lead to something that is greater for me than anything I’ve ever had before. It's a blessing in disguise. I will think positive thoughts and the power of that positive thinking plus my faith in God will make better things happen than I can even imagine.”

    If you review all three cases, there are several common threads because the consciousness in all three cases share the common trait of having been warped. Now, all three persons are exhibiting ambiguities, outright contradictions, and instability (all wrapped up in their assuredness that their perspective is "right" and that "it's all those others who are wrong" and causing their problems. Of that, they are sure.) Note too that all three persons have at least visited the third stage of the seven-step “journey” to Reality: the first tried religion for a year but it obviously did not re-purify the consciousness; in the second example, a woman is totally embroiled in her religious ego-state, but playing that role has not re-purified the consciousness; and in the third example, a man has assumed the role of "The Spiritual One" but that role-playing has not re-purified the consciousness.

    No surprise. Once again, persons can be witnessed who are stuck near the halfway point on a “path”; who think they have completed their entire "religious or spiritual journey"; who think they have arrived at some religious or spiritual pinnacle; who believe that they have reached their “destination” as far as spiritual journeys are concerned; and who are sure that they understand "themselves" and "others" and god and how the universe functions. In fact, they are completely embroiled in the fakery of their role-playing, are trapped in their attachment to the phenomenal, and haven’t a clue about the reality of the noumenon.

    Is the following pointer offered in the book There’s No Such Thing As “Peace of Mind” (There Is Only Peace if You’re Out of Your Mind) becoming clearer?

    Consciousness is rooted in the Absolute. The brain is rooted in the elements. The “mind” is rooted in wrong programming, in faulty conditioning, and in the lies and concepts and ideas and superstitions and falsehoods of cultures. Personas are rooted in programmed minds and are sustained by the ego-based lies and by the learned ignorance that are being taught in most modern cultures.

    Please enter the silence of contemplation. (To be concluded tomorrow)
    READINGS RELATED TO THE CONTENT OF TODAY’S POST:
    While non-duality’s “not two” teaching eliminates the possibility of “one relating to another,” every aspect of the relative existence is marred by “relationship problems” until Full Realization happens. The following book identifies the roots of “relationship problems” and provides a holistic treatment plan for healing, for applying non-duality principles, and for ending such relative problems.

    FALSE IDENTITIES: MYTHS, LIES, AND FACTS, Part One

    Table of Contents

    F.: Because the non-Realized (that is, "persons") are living the basic lie of believing that they are their false identities, then every other thought, word, and deed that follows is also going to be a lie: “I am this” or “I am that”; “You make me angry”; “You make me happy when…”; “You brought that on yourself because of your bad karma”; “My body shall resurrect”; “They’ll get their just reward/punishment in the afterlife”; “I’ll be happy if I can just get a different….”

    The roles that persons play in the lila are also called ego-states, states-of-being (being this or that), false identities, the false self, the façades, the masks, the public images, personas, and personalities. Consider how many hundreds of ego-states that persons assume as identities; then, consider that each ego-state has multiple “voices” in the “mind.” After that exercise, it should be clear why persons pass their days in preoccupation and their nights in restlessness: they are hearing the incessant chatter of a thousand monkeys in their heads as all of those ego-states try to deal with their imagined affronts, challenges, fears, and desires while constantly struggling to assure the continuity of something that is only a mirage.

    Next, consider the overwhelming number of false identities that persons have to choose from when adopting and fostering their images and you begin to understand why they are overwhelmed by the multitude of hidden agendas that are driving their thoughts, words, and deeds as they assume their false identities from a list that includes: the boy, the girl, the man, the woman, the stranger, the acquaintance, the friend, the fiancé, the fiancée, the boyfriend, the girlfriend, the lover, the spouse, the predator, the prey, the abuser, the abused, the enemy, the homeowner, the fixer, and the perfectionist;

    also, the helper, the driver, the driven, the performer, the romantic, the analyst, the loyalist, the adventurer, the boss, the parent, the adult, the child, the Caucasian, the African, the Afro-American, the white, the black, the brown, the yellow, the peacemaker, the smart, the ignorant, the gifted, the special, the contributor, the leech, the taker, the giver, the addict, the alcoholic, the son/daughter, the superstar, the nobody, the minister, the secretary;

    also, the hero, the achiever, the caretaker, the clown, the haves, the have-nots, the messiah, the lost child, the troublemaker, the special one, the knowledgeable one, the organizer, the controller, the conventional one, the savior, the matchmaker, the preacher, the priest, the rabbi, the ayatollah, the imam, the answer man, the answer woman;

    also, the president, the leader, the student, the teacher, the guru, the employee, the employer, the religious one, the spiritual giant, the teen, the board member, the owner, the possessor, the judge, the critic, the charmer, the stud, the sexy woman, the womanizer, the goddess, the player, the trophy, the model, the singer, the connoisseur, the gourmet, the vegan, the vegetarian, the expert;

    also, the Republican, the Democrat, the Independent, the American, the Frenchman, the German, the Iranian, the Syrian, the Talibani, the Pakistani, the Indian, the Jordanian, the Christian, the Catholic, the Protestant, the Lutheran, the Hindu, the Taoist, the Sufi, the Sunni, the Shia, the Buddhist, the Pope, the Dalai Lama, the Jew, the Muslim, ad infinitum.

    And that list includes but a fraction of the labels that persons use to assume false identities and to separate themselves from “others” by religion, politics, boundaries and global positioning, strata of societies, hierarchies of power and wealth and status and employment, affiliation, membership, association, race, and all forms of personality. Is the extent to which duality dominates the population of the earth any wonder?

    Tom Cunningham has compiled his own list of some of the less obvious roles that must also be discarded. (They are all rooted in Sigmund Freud's “His Majesty the Baby” belief systems, as discussed in the posting from two days ago.) He discusses the myths that accompany each such identity and then offers by way of contrast the actual facts that apply. For those attempting to identity all ego-state being assumed and all roles being played (in order to discard them) the following are offered for consideration. Are you playing any of the games associated with these false identities that are rooted in the immaturity of “His/Her Majesty the Baby”?

    The Popular One
    Myth:
    If I am charming, attractive, magnetic, and the life of the party, you will want to be my friend.
    Fact: By being all things to all people, we lose our true self in the process. The end of the game comes when others realize there is nothing behind the phony smiles.

    The Tyrant/The Dictator
    Myth:
    If you obey me and place yourself in my complete control, I will protect you from chaos.
    Fact: If we believe we are born leaders capable of handling any crisis, we expect others to trustingly place themselves in our hands. Masters of sarcasm, we keep out subjects in place with cruel comments. The end of the game is when the “subjects” refuse to play.

    The Love Conqueror
    Myth: I am irresistible to others. Part of my attractiveness is my lack of respect for other people. I expect love, attention, wealth and power for the privilege of my company.
    Fact: We are in deadly competition for center stage and are incapable of commitment in a relationship. The end of the game is when others recognize the shallowness of the conqueror.

    The Beautiful One
    Myth:
    Youthfulness, a beautiful body, and an attractive face are the essential qualities for me to be liked and accepted.
    Fact: We have tried to get by on looks alone. The end of the game is when others tire of the child who requires continuous reassurance of his or her attractiveness.
    Because persons live the basic lie of self (and thus all of the other lies that follow), the considerations for today are, "Are You being true to Self?" "Is that possible without knowing Who/What You Truly Are?" "Are you living a lie or have You Realized the Truth as a result of coming to understand the functioning of the totality?" Please enter the silence of contemplation. (To be continued)
