Here, there is nothing that is believed, so there is no one here who wants you to believe anything, either. Here, the invitation is to be free of all that you have been programmed, conditioned, acculturated, and domesticated to believe so that you can be free, period.
F.: Presently on planet earth, only 3% report that they are not members of those organized groups that program and condition their members to accept without questioning, and to believe with blind faith, the modern versions of ancient myths and superstitions which were dreamed up by ignorant, uninformed, and misinformed persons who used desire and fear as tools for controlling the masses and whose modern-day counterparts do the same.
The duality of right vs. wrong, linked to reward or punishment now as well as later and "forevermore," has become the obsession of the masses, the result being planet-wide anxiety and concern and worry and a manic passion about anything or everything except reality.
That means that the masses are preoccupied with the non-real rather than the real, that the masses are out of touch with reality, and that the masses have been rendered—by definition—insane (one definition of insanity being "a condition that renders people unable to distinguish the true from the false").
Maharaj's final estimate of the number of people on the planet who will ever Realize and be able to differentiate true from false and be able to abide in a manner that marks their relative existence with constructive behavior rather than destructive and self-destructive behavior was one in a million.
If accurate, that means that at any given time, only a few thousand humans (out of the current global population of 6.7 billion people) will be sane enough and rational enough and reasonable enough to be able to tell the difference in what is true and what is false...in what is fact and what is fiction. Misperceiving has become the abnormal "norm."
It is that inability to distinction between truth and falsehood which sets the stage for persons to believe what they hear preached and taught, including the types of nonsense catalogued yesterday. That near-pervasive insanity sets the stage for listeners and followers to believe the most senseless and insane teachings that include a ludicrous explanation about why menstrual cycles are painful, written in a book that billions take to be the "holy and infallible word of God";
that include contradictory teachings that claim a supreme being loves "unconditionally," followed by a listing of one condition after another; that include calls for persons to commit suicide for holy or nationalistic causes; that claim that "the universe" or extraterrestrial beings use storms and hurricanes and earthquakes to punish people;
that, relatedly, include teachings that lead persons to believe that totally natural events are really supernatural happenings and that lead people to believe that totally natural acts are unnatural and sinful acts; that include teachings preoccupied with blood, especially encouraging the shedding of it, the spreading of it, or the drinking of it during supposedly sacred ceremonies;
that include teachings which program followers to accept suffering—and even self-flagellation—as being normal and natural; and that include teachings from some leaders that bestiality is normal and acceptable if engaged in with the fauna or fowl that are on "the holy cleric's approved-for-sex" list.
The evidence makes clear to the impartial witness that there is nothing natural or normal about the now typical and widespread thinking, talking, or behavioral patterns of the non-Realized persons on the planet, (again, estimated by Maharaj to include almost all people, only one per every one million being the exception).
Why has the abnormal become the "norm"? Why are ignorance and insanity so widespread? To review the contributing factors:
1. The "natural BS detector" of the young becomes deactivated during childhood by parents and society and "the authorities" who impose programming and conditioning;
2. 97% of the people on the planet have been indoctrinated with the dogma of their organized groups which disseminate fiction as fact;
3. As a result of 5000 years of such indoctrination, a global psychological pathology has manifested, resulting in the masses deviating from what is actually normal and natural and inspiring them to believe that the unnatural and supernatural are natural; and
4. Complicating the relative existence on the planet is the fact that multiple pathologies (as a result of faulty programming and conditioning and acculturation and domestication) now control the thoughts and words and deeds of all non-Realized persons.
Relatively speaking, therefore, there can be a crusade pathology that is taught and adopted; or a jihadist pathology; or a sadistic or masochistic pathology; or a control and power pathology; or a shame and guilt pathology; or a destructive pathology; or a self-destructive pathology.
With pathologies having contaminated the psyches of the masses, is it now clear why the Realized Advaitin teacher prescribes the Ultimate Medicine to be used to purge the seat of all such pathologies...that seat now commonly referred to as "the mind"?
