F.: What can be seen from the pointers offered so far is that ...
1. the beginning of a child's sense of individuality, sense of separateness, and sense of a personalized identity is also the beginning of obnoxious behavior; that
2. as long as a sense of individuality, a sense of separateness, and the sense of a personalized identity continues, so too will obnoxious behavior continue, no matter what one's chronological age might be; that
3. the sense of individuality, sense of separateness, and sense of a personalized identity will lead to the assumption and reinforcement of personality / personalities, and all personalities come with a basic fear and a basic desire; that
4. the key desire among the non-Realized will eventually become an overwhelming longing to recapture the sense of Oneness, wholeness, fullness, and completeness; that
5. the sense of Oneness, wholeness, fullness, and completeness was lost when the discomforting drive for individuality, separation, and personalized identity replaced the earlier, comforting sense of Oneness, wholeness, fullness, and completeness; and that
6. when the awareness of the irrelevancy of all things relative comes, that allows for a continuation of the movement along "the path" to a state of Full Realization.
The irrelevancy of all things relative results in an understanding of what the Advaitin poet pointed to with the term "much ado about nothing." When ego and personality combine with development that is arrested at the age of childhood, the result among the non-Realized masses throughout adulthood is that ...
adults will be trapped by a sense of individuality, a sense of separateness, and a sense of a personalized identity, all of which foster and support self-centeredness and self-absorption and arrogance;
adults will be driven by self-centeredness and self-absorption and arrogance to behave obnoxiously;
adults will be driven blindly and unknowingly by the primary personality adopted by age six, the secondary personalities that followed, and the scores of roles that they will be assigned or will adopt throughout the relative existence, thinking they are making choices when, in fact, every thought and word and action is driven by the subconscious agendas of personality / personalities;
adults will be driven to seek without even knowing what they seek, so what they find as a result of being driven by subconscious motivators - rather than by conscious and logical and rational seeking - will be one source after another of temporary happiness manifesting alongside ignorance-and-personality-generated misery and suffering; and
adults will seldom reach an understanding of the peace that comes as a result of understanding irrelevancy; to them, everything is a big deal if it involves them, i.e., their personalities and selfish desires and demands which are rooted in childhood and which are traceable all the way back to the witnessing stage during the "coming in" phase on the "path."
It is at the Subject Witnessing level that an external source provides warmth and comfort and food and shelter and freedom from responsibility and, yes, even power. The child is in charge, determining when the parents can rest and when they cannot; when the parents will be called up to handle something or not; when the parents can go somewhere or not.
The child at that stage becomes the center of the universe and has to do nothing in order to acquire that role other than, at times, behaving as an unconsciously controlling nuisance. That is where the masses fixate, and that is why Maharaj described such unconscious, child-based, personality-driven behavior among adult-aged persons who have become a total nuisance with such words as "stupidity verging on insanity."
Freud spoke of "His Majesty, the Baby"; Dr. Harry Tiebout used that term and sometimes the term "King Baby" or "Queen Baby" to describe those among the non-Realized adult masses who are driven by childhood-level motives.
Anyone reading this knows one or more persons who play the role of "The Baby" and who often exhibit some of the traits of the ones assuming the false role of "Majesty," traits catalogued by some early psychoanalysts and traits which coincide with the Ultimate Sickness that require Advaita's Ultimate Medicine to address.
Those assuming the role of "His Majesty" or "Her Majesty," roles rooted totally in childhood and childishness ...
will exhibit emotional intoxication but little ability to feel or empathize; will be obsessed with body and mind and money and materialism; will have no ability to reside in the "now" but are driven by falsely-perceived memories and fear of the future;
will be angry and discontent and aggravated much of the time; will nurture false identities to seek admiration or "love"; will behave in destructive ways, relatively speaking; will see everything in the "world" as a big deal and will make much ado about nothing; will be dreamers rather than realists;
will hate weakness or sickness in themselves and others, wanting to be all-powerful and demanding that others be the same in order to be available to fulfill "his or her Majesty's" wishes; will be kind or mean, depending on what is required to get their way - sometimes being charming in order to manipulate, sometimes being overpowering to try to get their way;
will try to apply absolutes to the relative, seeing duality in all things and declaring what is "good or bad," "right or wrong," etc.; will want others to adhere to their rules and regulations though never thinking that the rules or regulations apply to them;
will become adrenaline junkies and chaos junkies in order to alleviate boredom; will often become control freaks (some trying to control overtly while others try to control covertly); will be blamers and shamers and complainers; and will defend their personas with a vengeance, capable of rage if one or more of their phony images are challenged.
Because the masses all assume multiple personas, and because such assumptions of ego-states as identities are always accompanied by egotism that is used as a tool to defend the false-self or false selves, then "His Majesty" or "Her Majesty" is another identity that is commonplace among the masses.
If you want a first-hand experience with the misery and suffering that is generated by personality, become intimately engaged with "His or Her Majesty." They can be extremely seductive, so it can happen easily enough;
however, the end result will confirm Maharaj's pointer that whatever gives you pleasure for a time will eventually give you misery and that whatever gives you the most pleasure for a time will eventually give you the most misery ... more misery, in fact, than you ever imagined.
Because all persons carry the witnessing-stage effects throughout life unless they are recognized as symptoms of the Ultimate Sickness and unless the Ultimate Medicine is found to treat the sickness, then what will unfold is what almost always unfolds:
1. the beginning of a child's sense of individuality, sense of separateness, and sense of a personalized identity is also the beginning of obnoxious behavior; that
2. as long as a sense of individuality, a sense of separateness, and the sense of a personalized identity continues, so too will obnoxious behavior continue, no matter what one's chronological age might be; that
