Here, there is nothing that is believed, so there is no one here who wants you to believe anything, either. Here, the invitation is to be free of all that you have been programmed, conditioned, acculturated, and domesticated to believe so that you can be free, period.
Furthermore, for those who have developed a preference for any non-nisargan yoga or who prefer Traditional Advaita Vedanta, Neo-Advaita, Neo-Vedanta, or Pseudo Advaita: here you will only find the use of the Direct Path Method of teaching along with the Nisarga (Natural) Yoga, all shared in simple, everyday English.
F.: "Holy" literally means "different from" (e.g., "Holy Bible" means "Different Book"). "Holy" persons think that they are "different from," reinforcing dualistic beliefs and dualistic thinking.
"Spiritual" also implies "different from" (i.e., "different from the physical"). "Spiritual" persons think they are "different from," reinforcing dualistic beliefs and dualistic thinking.
Such beliefs and thinking eliminate the possibility of completing the "journey" to Full Realization and thereafter overlaying the Absolute upon the relative and actualizing "I AM THAT; I AM." Instead, those taking themselves to be "Super Religious" or "Spiritual Giants" will delusionally try to reject the I AM and claim "I AM THAT, only."
Yet "identity" is "identity," be it a "bad" identity or a "good" identity or a "great" identity, and all identification is a deception (whether of the "self" variety or the "Self" variety).
In the end, "Master" is a false identity; "Advaitin" is a false identity; "Vedantin" is a false identity; "saint" is a false identity; "Rishi Dattatreya" is mythical; "Hindu" and "Jew" and "Christian" and "Muslim" are false identities, "holy person" is a false identity; "spiritual person" is a false identity; "holy places" are myths; "spiritual places" are myths; ad infinitum.
The following exchanges occurred in the loft of Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj during separate satsang sessions:
Questioner: "I see here pictures of several saints and I am told that they are your spiritual ancestors. Who are they and how did it all begin?"
Maharaj: "We are called collectively the 'Nine Masters'. The legend says that our first teacher was Rishi Dattatreya, the great incarnation of the Trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. Even the 'Nine Masters' (Navnath) are mythological";
and to another ...
Q: "Since you count your spiritual ancestry from Rishi Dattatreya, are we right in believing that you and all your predecessors are reincarnations of the Rishi?"
M: "You may believe in whatever you like ... but to me it has no importance. I am what I am and this is enough for me. I have no desire to identify myself with anybody, however illustrious. Nor do I feel the need to take myths for reality."
"I am only interested in ignorance and the freedom from ignorance. The proper role of a Guru is to dispel ignorance in the hearts and minds of his disciples. Once the disciple has understood, the confirming action is up to him."
It is noted in an Appendix to I AM THAT, " ... this sect originated with the teachings of the mythical Rishi Dattatreya ...." Again, freedom is freedom from ignorance, freedom from belief in myths, and freedom from belief in any and all concepts (including "holy," "spiritual," "holy places," "spiritual places," etc.)
The eradication of ignorance in order to provide freedom an opportunity to manifest was the only issue with Maharaj and is the only issue here. In "Why You Must Be Empty If You Would Be Full," this is shared:
When all learned ignorance is tossed, then everything that also accompanies ignorance will go. At that point, You will know that You Are as a drop dissolving into the ocean. You are At One with all.
You will have returned to your original nature … Your original state ... merging into that ocean of awareness without aware-of-ness. Call the effect "bliss" if you like, but that (the "Absolute" or "Awareness state") is not a state of bliss.
A state of bliss is a state in which the bliss is known ... is felt. That can only happen NOW, not "later" ... only "here," not "there." At the point when You begin to abide as that original state, then nothing is needed, nothing is desired, and the nothingness is relished. You will have tasted the sweet taste of the nectar of immortality.
Your Ultimate Sickness will have been healed via the Ultimate Medicine; You will have returned to that state prior to consciousness; You will have found the source of the seeds of consciousness; and You will abide as That Which Is What Can Make Stability Possible rather than as the blocked consciousness which guarantees fluctuations and instability, dualistic up’s and down’s, and, yes, even chaos.
Maharaj said that you cannot “imagine the taste of pure water; you can only discover it by abandoning all flavorings.” What is “flavoring” the relative existence among the non-Realized? Lies, concepts, false beliefs, attitudes, and all of the effects of programming and conditioning and learned ignorance.
Their flavorings also include hatred; entrapment in the illusion of things thought to be personal; the false but unsavory sense of separation and emptiness with nothing to provide a manifested sense of fullness; fears; unmet desires; anger; judgment; unmet expectations; fighting; war; arrogance; and—relatively speaking—the breaking of relationships. In short, concepts and duality.
The essence is that which is "the root, the foundation, the timeless and spaceless possibility" of what is called, during the manifestation, “all experience.” What seekers would taste is the sweetness of the essence, but they are trying to taste it indirectly by clinging either to body-mind-personality identification or to religious or spiritual personas or to some elevated notions about the value of consciousness.
Maharaj taught that the natural and original state as understood by the Realized “tastes of the pure, uncaused, undiluted bliss.” He pointed out that to know the sweetness, You must taste it. Its sweetness cannot be otherwise understood.
Here, the circumstance is not unlike that of a tour guide taking you to a vineyard for a wine tasting. Here, You Are guided to "The Vineyard of the Absolute" where the sweetest tastings take place when the Absolute is tasted during the relative existence after all which had blocked the consciousness from seeing purely has been removed.
Here, if you complete a simple, seven-step "journey," the tour will end with a savoring of the only nectar that is Real. Few can complete the "trip" alone since they are blocked by the obstacles of distortion and delusions and illusions.
Here, this is offered for consideration: currently, the taste is being ruined by impurities. The cup that You Are must be emptied first if it is ever to be filled with all that provides the taste of sweetness that is possible during the manifestation. To solve "the problem of manifestation," all must be tossed so that the original state of emptiness can return and so that a pleasant fullness can happen.
Empty, You can be filled with that which brings joy. Empty, the ocean can slip into the drop. Being empty is the prerequisite for the fullness to manifest.
Supposedly "holy" persons are not empty because they are full of themselves (of their false selves or false Self); supposedly "spiritual" persons are not empty because they are full of themselves (of their false Self). Only via total de-accumulation can the state come about where Reality is overlaid on the relative and where the bliss manifests and can be enjoyed at the only time when that can happen: NOW.
"Spiritual" also implies "different from" (i.e., "different from the physical"). "Spiritual" persons think they are "different from," reinforcing dualistic beliefs and dualistic thinking.
