DE-AWESOME-FYING NON-DUAL TERMINOLOGY
To continue with more on the rationale for this series:
1. Among the 7+ billion non-realized persons on planet earth, 97% reported in a survey that they limit their “search area” to the space beneath the roof a church or basilica or cathedral or temple or the meeting room of a “spiritual group” or a wat or mosque or synagogue or gurdwara. Actually, they seldom seek because they are convinced that they have found. They are taught to “question nothing” and to “accept with blind faith” whatever they are taught.
2. The same applies to the millions supposedly seeking in particular rooms or a loft or a home or a borrowed gathering space or via a particular ideology, cult, philosophy, or theory.
3. Of those seeking via a system of pointers which included the invitation to “question everything,” few question it all.
4. Here, “non-dualists” are encouraged to “question it all” and then an expanded caveat is added: “even question every non-dual pointer you’ve ever heard or read.”
5. Long before Maharaj shared pointers on the bogus beliefs regarding body and mind and personality identification; and long before he advised seekers to abandon their religious and spiritual role-playing; and long before he advised them to give up their spiritual workaholism and merely abide naturally, he laid the groundwork for all the pointers to come by saying, “Question everything.”
He meant with those words that every belief accumulated by listening to others and by reading the words of others and by going to gatherings (where those he derided as “Big Name Teachers” were collecting millions of dollars a year from seekers) must be questioned.
6. There have been millions of religious and spiritual and philosophical and ideological and Eastern and, yes, even non-dual concepts / beliefs which billions of humans have taken to be “awesome.”
In addition to “awesome,” so many simple and basic parts of the non-dual understanding have been “elevated in status” in a most supercilious, pompous fashion, reporting that various elements of the message are “noble,” “other-worldly,” “extraordinary,” “exceptional,” “distinctive,” and “exclusive.” None of them were, and none of them are.
7. This series is offering a different perspective about those concepts / beliefs / pointers / whatever.
So far in this series, it has been shown that - far from being “awesome concepts or teachings” - there is actually no validity or logic at all to such concepts or teachings as . . .

WHO-ness and / or who-ness
and
“SELF-Actualization”
and
“SELF-Realization”
and
“self-realization” (unless referring to the fact that one has realized that all assigned or assumed selves are illusions as are all assumed Selves as well)
and
liberation
and
enlightenment, awakening, and spiritual awakening,
and
“the Spiritual Malady”
and
higher consciousness
and
noble truths
and
how to know God
and
finding your life’s purpose
and
how to find peace of mind
and, relatedly,
mindfulness
and
becoming who you are
and
having an ageless body and timeless mind
and
karma
and
“Infinite Self” and “Supreme Self” and “Eternal Self”
and
birth-death-rebirth cycles
and
“The Universe”
and
“the work” / “spiritual work” / “spiritual workaholism”
and
contrary types vs. contrarians
and
being blessed and having blesséd days
and
the power of now
and
the pure, universal consciousness
and
“I am consciousness”
and
“Consciousness is all there is”
and
“Nothing is real”
and
bliss
and
advancing your spirit
and
seekers’ propensities: to talk rather than listen
and
seekers’ propensities: to go and do and zoom rather than relax in the silence
and
seekers’ propensities: to learn rather than un-learn.
Today, the discussion turns to . . .
SEEKERS’ PROPENSITIES: To teach rather than un-teach
Seldom did Maharaj warn his visitors to stay away from so-and-so or such-and-such. The exception was one group that he straight-forwardly, frankly, bluntly, directly, forthrightly, candidly, and openly told his visitors to avoid. That group? “Teachers,” specifically those he pointed to with the term “The Big Name Teachers.”
He understood that “The Teacher,” as with all false identities, soon self-upgrades and becomes in her or his own mind “The Super Teacher.”
As with so many teachers nowadays, their false identity is just one of many of their assigned or assumed ego-states which are supported and defended by egotism, the attitude being, “I know so much more than you do, and if you’ll learn what I can teach you, then you will be so much better off.”
Why especially avoid “The Big Name Teachers?” Because non-duality is a most alien understanding and is thus a most misunderstood set of pointers. That is why Maharaj said that “non-duality is not to be offered in public forums to the masses.”
He knew that persons could well risk all if they tried that (as demonstrated in the case of Yeshu’a who openly shared in public during his early 30’s some of the non-dual pointers he had come to understand along the way.
Those contradicted the false beliefs of the masses so he reportedly ended up being killed by being nailed to a cross.)
So understand the logic behind Maharaj’s advice regarding “The Big Name Teachers”: if one is pointing toward the truth which the masses do not grasp and which they hate when they hear it, then anyone who is popular among the masses is obviously not speaking as the universal consciousness and is not pointing toward the truth (truth being especially offensive to the egos of listeners).
The masses have long preferred a lie over the truth.
Remember: “The truth will set you free but it’s going to piss you off first.” Only liars are popular among the masses. Also, never forget that there is no such thing as “the conventional (that is, ‘the typical, widespread’) wisdom.” There is no widespread wisdom. There are only rare, isolated instances of wisdom.
Next, it has been noted here regularly that . . .
there is no one here that believes anything, so there is certainly no one here that wants you to believe anything.
(And were you to be totally objective and honest, you would see that you have never in your entire life ever dealt even once with anyone else that feels that way.
Everyone you know believes whatever they believe passionately, and everyone you know wants you to believe exactly what they believe.
In fact, they all want you to think the way they think, talk the way they talk, and behave the way they behave. And if you do not do so, they judge and sometimes punishment your failure to do so.
That started with your parents or guardians and is continuing right up to this instant. How has that worked for you, overall?)
To those that would try to share on a widespread basis what they have learned, Maharaj explained that the non-dual message has long been offered in small gatherings, in homes, beside a lake, and in small and remote locations and rooms.
Recall that Yeshu’a left organized religion and stopped talking in the religious institution in which he was raised and began sharing his message in those small, isolated, not-always-easy-to-find venues.
Want to really be a follower of Christ? Then understand what he did and what he modeled for others to do: Leave organized religion, now, this instant, immediately, without delay, post haste.
Maharaj was offered an unlimited amount of money by a follower to build for Maharaj the greatest ashram ever built. Maharaj instantly turned him down. He wanted no shrine of any kind built in his honor, and that was rare then and is even rarer now.
Next, being a teacher can be very popular in the pride-driven mind of each who proclaims that she or he is a teacher. For decades, the notion has been, “Just give me enough for a bed and for some not-especially tasty or healthy food and I’ll teach my fanny off.”
The Big Name Teachers who are among the new breed of self-proclaimed “non-dual teachers” have a different mindset:
“Just give me enough to make me a famous multi-millionaire and . . .
I’ll teach you the secrets of the universe;
I’ll teach you the ten secrets to success;
I’ll teach you about power . . . power now, the power of intention, etc. In other words, I’ll teach you how to control!
I’ll teach you how to advance your spirit;
I’ll teach you how to find meaning;
I’ll teach you how to find your life’s purpose;
I’ll teach you about the spontaneous fulfillment of desire;
I’ll teach you the seven spiritual laws of success and I’ll provide you with a practical guide to the fulfillment of your dreams;
I’ll teach you how to know God;
I’ll teach you how to let people walk all over you and abuse you by programming you to love what is so you’ll put up with anything and not be upset about it.
“Been raped? Invite your rapist over and prepare him a meal. Then move on. Ah . . . perfect peace when you practice my brand of acceptatio maximus. Acceptance might be the key for you, but my version of that takes it to an all-new level. So shout it from the rooftops: ‘ACCEPTATIO MAXIMUS!!!’”
In other words, the message of all who are teachings the above concepts is . . .
“For enough money, I’ll teach you all kinds of shit (to use one of the words – along with his favorite "bullshit" – which Maharaj often used to pepper his talks.) And as I do so, I’ll tell you that I am teaching non-duality.”
Have you ever considered that maybe you have already been taught way too much as it is and that you do not need to be taught more but could be better served by being un-taught what you’ve learn because it has not served you well and because it always inspires persons to ignore the call to be freed of learned ignorance and imposed insanity?
