ANNOUNCEMENTS
[Walter Driscoll asked to interview me in order to preserve on video some of the latest modifications and evolutions in the versions of the message offered here since 1989. He would label the discussion, "Unlearning with Floyd Henderson."
Please note: For those who have a problem hearing what is being shared, the video offers a fairly accurate set of closed captions which some listeners might want to activate.
The interview is available for viewing by clicking on video "NUMBER THIRTEEN" in the column to the right.]
1. [See the offer in gold text following this post for details on how you can watch a retreat on video which includes a detailed discussion of all seven of the steps on the path as used by Maharaj]
2. Here, with those who are still driven to talk about "god," the "Son of god," the "Holy Spirit," "Buddha," "Krishna," etc., etc., etc., the invitation to them is to view those as verbs, not nouns. See the green text after today's post for the full meaning and implications of that.
3. A new video ("Number Ten: Awakening Together Satsang, March 2018") has now been added in the far right column of this page, offering the opportunity to view a recent 2018 satsang session with Floyd being interviewed by Regina and Jacqueline of "The Awakening Together Group." (See the details in the blue text after this post.)
4. Some prefer paperback books even if they have to wait a day or so to receive it and have to pay more for a printed book and its shipment. Now, 10 paperback books by Henderson are in print and available in two anthologies through Barnes and Noble, Amazon, and over 40,000+ booksellers around the globe including in the Americas, Germany, India, Italy, Poland, Russia, China, Spain, Brazil and South Korea. See the end of this post in red text for details.
5. Would you like to have us send to someone as a gift from you a copy of any ebook in our inventory? See the offer in purple text at the end of this post.
6. Or, you may purchase a Floyd Henderson Shopify Gift Card here for someone and offer recommendations for the books in Floyd's store which might be of assistance to them.
7. You may click here to visit Floyd's bookstore which offers both digital books and paperback books which deal with non-duality, non-duality-based fictional adventures, recovery, financial sanity, financial planning, and more.
CAUSATION and RELATIVE EVENTS AND BEHAVIORS:
“Evil?” or “Ignorance, Stupidity, and Insanity”?
This was received from a visitor:
“You mentioned that the unhealthy (disintegrated?) psyche or attachment to
ideas based in duality is always going to inspire competitiveness and that
competitions involve rivalry and antagonism and struggle and fighting and
clashing.
“That point drove home how belief in duality inspires
relative problems, but -- not to be argumentative but what about the deer that
you say can serve as models for us if we want to live naturally? Deer also
compete and fight. Thanx”
F.: Point taken, but your conclusion is based in one fallacy from among the
list of “Fallacies of Logic,” namely “the false analogy.” For example: “If I
see 'A' doing what 'B' does, then the motives of 'A' and 'B' must be the
same.”
Would that mean that a child enjoying an ice cream cone, physically savoring
the taste alone, is eating that ice cream with the same motive as an adult who
is subconsciously frustrated and feeling empty inside and is eating what is
taken to be “comfort food” in an effort to try to feel better mentally and
emotionally and psychologically?
So consider the fact that humans experience subconscious motives and intentions
as well as unnatural drives and supernatural drives that affect thoughts and
words and actions whereas deer have no thoughts and no words and their actions
are determined by the innate, natural drives of thirst, hunger, and sex
alongside the instinctive drive of the consciousness for continuity.
Selection in nature is really natural selection, so whatever “competitions”
that appear to be happening in nature are natural. As such, there is no
on-going rivalry or personal antagonism or struggles and fighting and clashings
that are rooted in ego and egotism.
Struggles that happen as a part of the natural selection process are not
struggles that involve a “me vs. all others” competition, so what you observe
the deer engaged in during mating season does not involve duality or beliefs or
“learned values” that result from acculturation (i.e., “this is desirable” and
“this is really hot” and “this part should look like this” and “that part
should look like that”).
For human males, it is as if they are forever fixated in the mating season (or
in “the fighting season” or in “the war season,” the latter in most Anglo-Saxon
cultures being, “any season when we are not already engaged in a war and are
ready for the next one”).
For any species to survive in the healthiest fashion possible, the strongest
must breed with the strongest. That is NATURAL selection. Among humans, the
process has been warped into something that is a shallow, bastardized version
of that which has become “UNNATURAL selection”; often, therefore, the criteria
used by humans is that “the best looking must breed with the best looking.”
How's that working?
Humans also engage in a shallow, bastardized version of what has become
“SUPERNATURAL selection,” so persons stuck at the third step on the seven-step
“path” to realization will need to find a partner who is as religious as they
are; or who is as spiritual as they are; or who is as deeply embroiled in
spiritual workaholism as they are; or who is as concerned with being a “better,
really good, even really great person.” That way they can “grow together.”
Right.
Humankind's unnatural selection and supernatural selection are nothing even
close to what you have observed among the deer that are practicing natural
selection. It is unnatural selection that sustains such television programs as
“The Jerry Springer Show,” and you will not see any deer on there, acting out
personal, ego-based, egotism-supported, histrionic dramas. So do not erroneously
equate what you see deer doing with what you think you see humans doing.
Moreover, there is no need to go into a discussion of the lizard brain that can
generate subconscious processes among humans. Enough to say that, in nature,
nothing is “subconscious.” That is a condition unique to humans whereby the
consciousness is blocked or contaminated via programming, conditioning, etc.
Then, among persons in that condition, there might be a few
conscious motives but for the most part there will only be unconscious / subconscious
factors that inspire thoughts and words and actions.
For example, every personality type - every assumed ego-state - inspires
subconscious fears and desires that control what persons think and say and do.
That does not occur anywhere else in nature.
Humans strive to move up any number of hierarchies for all sorts of “personal,”
ego-and-egotism-based reasons. Their motives are superficial; in nature, deer
have no motives, no hidden agendas, and no “personal” goals; they function
naturally, based in the innate, instinctive drives that determine what they do
as a result of their thirst drive and their hunger drive and their sex
drive.
Having no “minds,” they cannot become so warped that they fight for the sake of
fighting, kill for the sake of revenge, kill for the sake of controlling
others, kill for the sake of defending an assumed persona, or kill for the sake
of winning some delusional, ego-and-egotism-inspired competition.
Yes, male deer during the breeding season do fight in their
attempt to establish “dominance” in the herd. If a fight ensues between two
bucks that are both seeking the right to breed with the most preferred doe in
the herd, both deer rise to their hind feet and maneuver for position. After a
few slashes with their forelegs, the fight is over.
No fighting to the death over a female. No personality / persona-based ego and
egotism is at play. There is no notion of rising to the top of a hierarchy and
holding that position year round; there is no competition to “make one's mark
on the world”;
there is no fighting or killing to compensate for a personal
sense of inadequacy; and there are no unnatural, supernatural or insane beliefs
that are motivating the struggle.
So, although male deer are known to fight during the breeding season, they are
neither good nor evil nor insane. When they fight, they are merely doing what
they are driven to do by their natural, innate sex drive. Unlike insane humans,
the deer are not being driven by any mental disorders and they are not being driven
by the agendas of any assumed personas.
They are not CHOOSING to fight for the right to breed with
the healthiest doe. They are not THINKING. They are just doing what they are
driven to do, naturally and spontaneously, again as a result of their all-natural,
instinctive drives.
Persons abiding under the influence of personality also do what they are driven
to do and to say what they are driven to say. They are not choosing. But the
insanity of that is that they are driven by false identities, by mirages, and
the result is insane thoughts and insane words and insane actions.
What might be “the answer”? What is “the cure”? Could it rest with one of the
following five possibilities?
1. Might the answer rest with nationally or globally published authors who are
the very ones that Maharaj called “Big Name Teachers” and warned his visitors
to avoid? No. They are blending dualistic concepts into their writings to
create popular appeal.
2. Might the answer rest with nationally or globally famous lecturers who are
the very ones that Maharaj called “Big Name Teachers” and warned his visitors
to avoid? No. They are blending dualistic concepts into their talks to create
popular appeal.
3. Might the answer rest with an internationally-operating spiritual program
that is run by non-professionals who have no training whatsoever at addressing
its membership's severe mental and emotional issues but who claim instead that
“being spiritual” cures mental illness? That possibility has already been
addressed and dismissed, having been shown to have failed miserably by their
actual results.
4. Might the answer rest with the organized religions that are operating around
the globe with 97% of the planet's population reporting an affiliation with one
of those organizations? With billions involved in those religions, but with
billions nevertheless ignorant or “stupid” or “insane” (to use Maharaj's
categories), it should be obvious that organized religions are not providing
the cure for global insanity.
[Consider: in November of 2012, a series discussed “The Top Ten Sources of The
Ultimate Sickness,” and it was shown that #1 on the list was “religion.”]
5. Or might the answer rest with an entity that could potentially have the
ability to address insanity when it manifests on a colossal, nationwide basis
(as is the case in most nations nowadays), an entity with national resources,
such as a national government?
Are governments taking on the task? Obviously not. Why? Calloused dictatorships
notwithstanding, are the so-called “democracies” addressing the issue?
Obviously not. Why? For one thing, insane people elect insane officials to
represent them, and then decisions affecting millions are made by persons who
are also suffering from the insanity that marks the Ultimate Sickness.
Now, note the linkage with #4 and #5: What does religion have to do with
government? Consider: what, obviously, is going to result when the most
religious persons in a nation are also the persons elected to governmental
positions, setting the stage for their religious beliefs to define government
policy?
The governmental leaders who are suffering from the Ultimate
Sickness will form a government that also suffers from the Ultimate Sickness.
All of that government's actions will be totally insane as well.
And does the Ultimate Sickness want to eliminate itself, whether on an
individual level or on a group level or on a federal government level? Never.
That is why non-dual teachers have long recommended that individualized seeking
be the preferred method of seeking as far as the non-dual understanding is
concerned.
Maharaj clearly stated that the non-dual message is not for
the masses and should not be presented on a public stage. (Again, so much for
the practices of the ones Maharaj called “The Big Name Teachers.”)
So note the failure of # 5 - government - to address the spread of insanity. In
what some call “developed countries” with well-organized health care systems,
in the nations that were studied, 44% to 70% of patients with depression, schizophrenia,
alcohol-use disorders and child and adolescent mental illnesses do not receive
treatment. In what some call “developing countries,” the treatment gap is
likely to be closer to 90% for those disorders.
In theocracies where religion controls the national government (and that is
becoming the case more and more in the U.S. each day) the national government
subsidizes religion. In the U.S., the national government gives seventy-one
billion dollars to organized religion every year via tax breaks. How much does
that same government contribute toward the treatment of mental health issues
annually? Six billion dollars.
That means that, annually, the government in the U.S. spends eleven times more
on religion than on addressing mental health issues.
And that means that in the U.S., every citizen is contributing to the costs of
religion because tax breaks are given to persons who make financial
contributions to religious organizations, yet the entire citizenry must carry
the tax burden for religious organizations while the entire citizenry could
benefit far more if their tax dollars were being used to address mental
problems and fill-blown insanity.
Moreover, it means that the federal government is spending eleven times more on
religious organizations that perpetuate some of the most insane beliefs ever
than it is spending via mental healthcare organizations that offer treatment
for insanity.
The point? Seekers cannot count on any entity to address ignorance and
insanity, verified by looking at the record of famous authors, famous
lecturers, spiritual programs, religious organizations, or governments.
None of those are addressing the issue, so Maharaj's final
“guesstimate” was that - even among seekers - only 1 in 10,000,000 would ever realize
fully and be free of “ignorance, stupidity, and insanity.”
Yet if persons were never to understand that which they are, consider how very
different the relative existence would be if persons were at least sane enough
to understand everything that they are not.
