ANNOUNCEMENTS
[Walter Driscoll asked to interview me in order to preserve on video some of the latest modifications and evolutions in the versions of the message offered here since 1989. He would label the discussion, "Unlearning with Floyd Henderson."
Please note: For those who have a problem hearing what is being shared, the video offers a fairly accurate set of closed captions which some listeners might want to activate.
The interview is available for viewing by clicking on video "NUMBER THIRTEEN" in the column to the right.]
1. [See the offer in gold text following this post for details on how you can watch a retreat on video which includes a detailed discussion of all seven of the steps on the path as used by Maharaj]
2. Here, with those who are still driven to talk about "god," the "Son of god," the "Holy Spirit," "Buddha," "Krishna," etc., etc., etc., the invitation to them is to view those as verbs, not nouns. See the green text after today's post for the full meaning and implications of that.
3. A new video ("Number Ten: Awakening Together Satsang, March 2018") has now been added in the far right column of this page, offering the opportunity to view a recent 2018 satsang session with Floyd being interviewed by Regina and Jacqueline of "The Awakening Together Group." (See the details in the blue text after this post.)
4. Some prefer paperback books even if they have to wait a day or so to receive it and have to pay more for a printed book and its shipment. Now, 10 paperback books by Henderson are in print and available in two anthologies through Barnes and Noble, Amazon, and over 40,000+ booksellers around the globe including in the Americas, Germany, India, Italy, Poland, Russia, China, Spain, Brazil and South Korea. How Dualistic Thinking Reinforces Ignorance, Justifies Inaction, and Prevents the Understanding of Causation
[Continued from yesterday]
Yesterday, it was shown that misdiagnoses and missed diagnoses have set up persons with the Addictive Personality Disorder to believe their addiction is not based in mental and emotional and personality disorder issues or in residual, untreated trauma issues;
instead, it was shown that millions and millions have been convinced that the cause - the “ultimate cause” - of addiction is not based in natural or unnatural factors but is based in an all-supernatural factor dealing with a “sick spirit,” “a sick soul,” “a spiritual malady.”
Quite the nebulous and ill-defined (and actually indefinable) and magical-thinking-based diagnosis, n’est-de pas?
Of course, those playing the role of “The Amateur Addictionologist Experts” are in professional company because medical doctors and mental healthcare providers are making mistakes in diagnosis to similarly alarming degrees.
As for the medical doctors, the Mayo Clinic has provided evidence that of those coming to them seeking a second opinion, 12% of the diagnoses were confirmed; 20% were found to be totally erroneous diagnoses; and 66% were cases where some change in diagnosis was required.
A conservative estimate is that 12,000,000 to 24,000,000 cases of misdiagnosis or missed diagnosis happen annually in the U.S.
In the case with “floyd’s body,” two heart attacks struck within days of having completed an all-day study of my heart and related functions and being given a clean bill of health by my cardiologist and his medical team. My “professional” doctors were 0 for 2 in their heart diagnostic skills.
As for mental health providers, studies have shown that 65.9% of the cases for major depressive disorder were misdiagnosed; that 92.7% of all bipolar disorders were misdiagnosed; that 85.8% of the cases of for panic disorder were misdiagnosed;
that 71.0% of the cases involving generalized anxiety disorder were misdiagnosed; and that 97.8% of the cases involving social anxiety disorder were misdiagnosed.
The evidence clearly supports this basic pointer: magical thinking is one manifestation of dualistic thinking and dualistic thinking reinforces ignorance, justifies inaction, and prevents the understanding of true causation.
Those who are told that their addiction is caused by a “spiritual malady” are also told that a spiritual malady requires daily spiritual work in order for an addict’s “desire to use” can be held in check. They are told there is no cure but only a “daily reprieve.”
Not an especially happy diagnosis and treatment plan, huh?
And especially contrary to the observable facts, religion and / or spirituality maybe not be an effective treatment for insanity but may be a major contributing factors.
RELIGIOUS and / or SPIRITUALITY-INSPIRED INSANITY:
When spirituality (A) prevents completion of the entire “journey,” (B) blocks abiding naturally, (C) causes financial problems, (D) causes ill health both physically and mentally, and (E) accelerates the onset of what the masses call “death”
Maharaj’s messaging went through three distinct iterations:
Originally, he used religion, Hinduism specifically, as a common thread through his activities and talks. He abandoned that after seeing its lack of success.
Next, under pressure from his Western visitors, he tried using spirituality as a basis of his activities and talks. He abandoned that after seeing its lack of success.
Finally,
he focused on the mind and psychological and personality issues as the proper
focus for seekers. He stayed with that approach until he took mahasamadhi.
(A) The entire non-dual “journey” requires the completion of certain steps in a particular order. It is usually necessary at the third step for persons to assume religious and spiritual roles and to play those roles.
Yet those roles blind them to the rest of the “path” as much as any other roles. Most fixate at that step and suffer the many consequences of merely playing new “really good” roles which are believed to have replaced “old, bad” roles.
(B) The invitation of Nisarga Yoga is to abide naturally. If living under the influence of religion, unnatural living will happen. It is unnatural to allow persons who know nothing about your body's metabolic type to advice what you should and should not eat;
it is unnatural form anyone to advise you to never “waste” the seed nor to masturbate (under threat of eternal damnation); it is unnatural to be advised to kill yourself by detonating a bomb vest in order to kill others because they are members of a different religion or sect.
It is also unnatural to try to abide supernaturally / spiritually if that requires one to eat and not eat what a “guide” or guru advises; to spend so much time completing “spiritual exercises” that one makes a second job out of mere living; and to believe that one's spirituality has progressed him or her to a higher, better, different level from others.
To continue the discussion by using a specific example, consider the case of Libby (not her real name).
(C) Libby became depressed and suicidal when she could no longer pay her bills (in spite of the fact that she had a job that paid her an excellent salary). Libby had searched for years in many venues - just as was the case here - until she found a distorted version of non-duality which led to her fixating at the third of seven steps on the “path” from (1) identification with body and mind and personality to (2) full realization.
Once Libby because convinced that she was “spiritual” (and was then driven by egotism to upgrade that false personality type to “super spiritual”) then she spent a fortune over the next fifteen years attending spiritual retreats and visiting ashrams around the globe in order to reinforce her assumed spiritual persona.
As with most persons, her “journey” began and ended with the assumption of religious identities and then with the assumption of a spiritual identity. She froze at the step where she adopted the persona of “The Super Spiritual Giant.”
Her never-ending efforts to reinforce and sustain her persona resulted in her spending huge sums of money for that purpose, spending thousands of dollars annually on trips to ashrams.
Every vacation day provided annually by the company she worked for was spent on the road, no longer to seek but only to “reinforce” her spiritual belief system - and role - that she had adopted. The safeguarding of her spiritual identity took precedence over all of the financial commitments she had made.
Her spiritually-inspired financial insanity eventually resulted in financial insanity and the angst of accumulated debt.
(D) The one assuming the role of “The Super Spiritual Guide” in her life informed her that she would have to abandon the food plan that she was on at that time and would have to become a vegetarian.
The ignorance involved with that is as “stupid” (to use one of Maharaj's words) as the U.S. Government's list of what all persons should eat on a daily basis. Why?
Because there are three distinct body types that require three distinct food plans for the organs to function at maximum efficiency (as explained in the book “Holistic Healing”):
I. If a metabolic profile examination of a person reveals that one has a sympathetic-dominant body type, then the most efficient fuel / food sources are vegetables, particularly leafy greens and - secondarily - root vegetables and fruits.
Professional nutritionists also recommend that the food plan for these types should include approximately 80% grains as well as 20% chicken and fish.
II. If a metabolic profile examination of a person reveals that one has a parasympathetic-dominant body type, then the most efficient fuel / food sources must include red meats and / or salmon, tuna, sardines, anchovies and organ meats that are high in protein. All dairy products are acceptable, but - when possible - the parasympathetic type should restrict the intake of leafy green vegetables.
III. If a metabolic profile examination of a person reveals that neither the sympathetic nor the parasympathetic autonomic systems are dominant, then one can be said to have a “balanced body type”; in that case, as the name implies, then a balance of vegetables and meat and high protein foods can provide the proper food plan.
Yet how some hate to hear those facts, many having “fired me” or “cursed me” or “wished a pox on me” as a result of sharing that information rather than going along with the notion that one food plan - the one they are adhering to, of course - is the only “right” one.
In fact, the autonomic systems of the planet's population are divided roughly into thirds with approximately 1/3 having a sympathetic system, about 1/3 having a parasympathetic system, and about 1/3 having a balanced body type.
To seek to control what persons eat, and to agree with the U.S. Government that “one size fits all” when it comes to food plans, is sheer ignorance. What does that have to do with Libby? How did her spirituality lead to physical pain for years as well as to misery and suffering for years and to what her physicians and nutritionists called “an untimely death that could have been avoided”?
Consider what can happen when following a food plan that is inappropriate for your particular metabolic type, as explained in the book “Holistic Healing”:
Many mental problems and emotional illnesses that were once thought to be caused by “the mind” can actually be the result of a physical problem and are rooted in “the body” more than “the mind.”
Many mental and emotional syndromes like depression, anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorder can be caused by under-functioning organs, under-functioning glands, and / or nutritional deficiencies.
An “overwhelm response” to stress or a lack of motivation can come from deficient adrenal glands.
Extreme levels of anxiety or the inability to tell true from false can come from a nutritionally-deficient or under-functioning hypothalamus gland.
For some, if they have a head lettuce lunch, they can become overly-alkaline (which can cause moodiness or depression).
Nightmares may not indicate mental or emotional turmoil but might indicate a magnesium deficiency or a blood sugar imbalance.
Deep levels of depression and an inability to lose weight could be the result of a low-functioning thyroid gland.
Mood swings and a sense of loss of control could be caused by the erratic rise and fall of blood sugar following the consumption of sugar or processed carbohydrates. The inability to focus and concentrate, as well as the loss of energy, can be caused by the same.
Hormonal deficiencies in both males and females could be caused by a low-functioning pituitary gland.
Anxiety can result from a deficiency in calcium and/or magnesium, which are nature’s tranquilizers.
Libby suffered many of those conditions because she was following an inappropriate food plan, so her health began to fail soon after changing to her so-called “spiritual / vegetarian diet.”
For years, one doctor or another found that she had a parasympathetic-dominant body type. Every nutritionist she was referred to explained that she was going to have to abandon her vegetables-only diet if she was to be healthy.
Yet she held firm to her guru's teachings and to her “spiritual belief” that she was “purer” and “better” as a result of being a vegetarian.
She spent the last two decades of her existence without any energy and, therefore, often suffering from fainting spells as a result of poor nutritional habits;
with all sorts of emotional conditions that were induced by her inappropriate food plan for her body type; and with debilitating mental and emotional inefficiency.
Yes, both Spinoza and Maharaj were spot on:
“Whatever increases, decreases, limits or extends the body’s power of action, increases, decreases, limits or extends the mind’s power of action. And whatever increases, decreases, limits or extends the mind’s power of action, also increases, decreases, limits or extends the body’s power of action.”—Spinoza, 1600’s A.D.
Maharaj: “Suppose I am not able to think, that my mind is not clear. What does it mean? It means my food essence is rather dull today. It is not getting into combustion in proper order; therefore, the thinking is also dull. This mind pertains to the food essences.”
[Thus, Maharaj never objected when his parents included meat in their menus and he never objected when some of his children included meat in their food plans, drawn instinctively and naturally and spontaneously to that fuel source. See, one's food plan not only affects one's physical well-being but also impacts moods and feelings - or “emotions” - and mental health as well.]
(E) Not only did Libby's version of spirituality leave her financially and mentally and emotionally debilitated for twenty years, but it actually was the contributing factor to what her doctors and nutritionists termed “decades of unnecessary pain and misery and suffering” as well as “her premature death.”
And, yes, she did determine years before her “demise” that she would never speak to me again after she was asked two questions:
1. “Is it possible with your body type that your vegetarian food plan is not helping you at all, relatively speaking, but is actually causing you harm, relatively speaking?”
and
2. “Is it possible that the assumption of additional false identifications - such as 'The Religious One' or 'The Spiritual Giant' - will only get a seeker to the third of multiple steps and will therefore block completion of the total 'journey' to full realization?”
There are sicknesses which require a particular, unique treatment, and the same applies to the Ultimate Sickness. And in neither case is magical / supernatural thinking” or “being religious” or “being spiritual” any part of the proper treatment plans that have been shown to be successful. In fact, the contrary is the case.
That having been said, eat what you like, don't eat what you don't like, seek where you like, or do not seek at all. Here, the only concern is with those who come this way and are seeking earnestly.
Yet key questions remain:
1. How many “Libby's” are out there?
2. How many have assumed the role of “The Spiritual Giant” and then had egotism elevate that role to “The Super Spiritual Giant?”
3. How many are causing relative harms to the body that is temporarily housing the consciousness, all in the name of “being spiritual”?
4. How many have fixated at the third step on a multi-step “path” and are as trapped in false-personality-identification as ever?
5. How many took themselves to be persons - but were at least multi-dimensional persons - prior to “becoming spiritual” persons who have now become so obsessive with their spirituality that they have become monomaniacs, that is, one-dimensional persons who can focus on nothing except for their new obsession with the spirituality that is driving their compulsive behavior around a single issue”?
6. How many have left those around them totally disgusted with someone who has taken on the role of “The Saint” and has become (a) no longer any fun to be around at best or (b) completely intolerable at worst?
To be continued.
