How Dualistic Thinking Reinforces Ignorance, Justifies Inaction, and Prevents the Understanding of Causation

The previous posts have looked at the events surrounding the writing of a book which has sold over 40 millions copies worldwide and which “Time” magazine called “one of the one-hundred best and most influential books written in English” since the 1920's.
Yet its major premise is one colossal lie, namely, “Addiction is caused by a spiritual malady and only being Godly and spiritual can you address the problem.”
The truth of causation cannot be understood when the lie about causation is set forth.
Yet people prefer lies far more than truth. Lies give them a chance to feed the top two addictions among the masses: the desire for control and the desire for power (and a Power) which can give them control.
If an ancient corn crop was dying because of a drought, there was but hopelessness and a sense of helplessness unless a priest came along and said, “No. The corn is dying because the Rain God is angry with us.”
“And what calms down an angry man? Well, sex of course, especially with a virgin. And as God’s representative on earth, I shall be the one to have sex with the virgin chosen.”
“The only thing even better? Adding a snuff-film element and killing her afterwards as a sacrifice to the angry god. But even better than that?”
“Communing with god by eating the heart I cut out of her human body and passing it through the crowd so all can eat human flesh and drink human blood in the Rain God’s honor.”
And to this day, billions of people still buy into that colossal lie and regularly enter into “holy communion services” where the supposed body and blood of “their Savior” is eaten and drunk in cannibalism style and vampirism style.
“So, O-yeah, O-yeah, you people line up like lemmings and come forward to get your regular dose of holy body and blood, ignoring the fact that logic and reason can be submerged and destroyed by that mass delusion (which also drives all political and religious and spiritual and consumer movements in our insane culture).”
Again, the truth of causation cannot be understood when a lie about causation is set forth and believed en masse, and such lies are always rooted in duality-based beliefs.
It was
shown that the author who wrote the book that would become the most
widely-accepted “authority” on the treatment of alcoholism was intimidated by a
small group of very religious men in a Midwestern U.S. town to
(1) modify his discussion of what he deemed to be at the root of the Addictive
Personality Disorder (namely, “the mind”) and to
(2) proclaim that the root cause was a moral issue and that the main focus of
treatment for the illness should not be on addressing the “mind” (a.k.a.,
mental) issues but should focus on addressing the “spirit” issues.
[Interesting, adherents to that method rightly tell newcomers that they “do not
have a drinking problem but that they have a THINKING problem instead,” after
which the focus turns from the thinking problem to discussions of drinking and
spirituality.]
The result: presently, worldwide, there are millions of members of groups that
have organized around the writings in that book (though the membership is
ever-changing because almost as many leave each year as join annually).
Of those, only 1.5% - 3.5% are able to stay sober for a period of five years; conversely, 96.5% to 98.5% of those who join will fail to remain sober for even five years. The “spiritual” approach, which the religious members demanded should be the main focus of treatment, is failing miserably.
Data showing the number of “chips” (token coins) sold to commemorate annual sobriety landmarks reveal that the number of chips sold nationwide to celebrate two years of sobriety is 1/10th the number sold to mark one year of sobriety.
What are the pointers for those seeking via the non-dual understanding?
A. The number of those who will ever grasp the understanding fully - and become fully liberated and fully enlightened and fully realized and fully free of the effects of the Ultimate Sickness - are about the same or (according to Maharaj's best “guesstimate”) even less.
B. Just as millions of alcoholics around the globe are being treated annually with a method that has been shown to be ineffective, the case is the same with millions of non-dual seekers.
C. Millions of seekers are using books written by some claiming to be “non-dual authors” and “non-dual teachers” who are actually offering a message about non-duality that is skewed and ineffective and that is, in fact, not a non-dual message at all.
D. The most popular books on non-duality and the most popular book on treating alcoholism are exactly alike in that both are offering a distorted, skewed, ineffective, unsuccessful message.
E. The most popular book on treating alcoholism offers a treatment plan that does not address in any way the mind-personality disorders that are at the root of the problem, and the most popular books on non-duality do not address in any way the root cause of the Ultimate Sickness (which is also a mind-personality issue) because the popularity of authors and teachers and speakers rest in the fact that they have all added duality-based elements to the message which guarantee “mass appeal” and huge sales
F. The no-holds-barred message of non-duality that eradicates all things
personal has never had “mass appeal.” If the non-realized masses like a message
that they hear, it is proof that non-duality's originally
blunt-and-in-your-face-message-that-will-set-you-free is not the message that
is being read or heard and that is being well-received by the non-realized
masses. The exact opposite is the case, and that is why Maharaj warned his
visitors to stay away from “the Big Name Teachers.”
G. Therefore, that which is presently the most popular method for treating
alcoholism (namely, becoming spiritual) and that which is presently the most
popular method for treating the Ultimate Sickness (namely, becoming spiritual)
are methods that - their popularity be damned - do not address at all the root
cause of the sickness (or the Ultimate Sickness) and do not provide at all the
proper treatment for the sickness (or the Ultimate Sickness).
And that is the case in almost all instances. The traditional medical community
failed for over half a year to diagnose properly a cancerous condition in “floyd’s
body” that was being caused by polyps.
Moreover, their suggested method of treatment provided no final and total relief but required instead procedures which would run “twice a year for life.”
It was a
naturopathic doctor that completely healed the body once and for all and which
has left the body polyp-free for over eighteen years without any additional
treatment required.
Look at the medical community in the U.S. and one will understand why the World
Health Organization has dropped medical care in that country to 37th on a list
of “developed and semi-developed” nations.
While
the U.S. medical community admits to killing hundreds and hundreds of thousands of patients
per year as a result of medical mistakes, one member of the American Medical
Association shared off the record that the number is closer to double the
number reported to have been killed per year.
In the psychiatric community in the U.S., personality disorders (and their
fellow neuroses and psychoses) are most often treated with pharmaceuticals. A report
in October 2011 revealed that more people in the U.S. are now dying from the
use of prescription drugs that from the use of illegal drugs.
See, it's a global issue which spans the fields of medicine, philosophy,
psychiatry, psychology and which includes all of the off-the-mark methods being
used to address body and mind and personality issues as well as their
accompanying, grave mental and emotional disorders.
Whatever the problem or the sickness or the Sickness, in most cases the methods
being used to try to address the problem or sickness or Sickness are totally
ineffective, and if the treatment is one that does not involve physical
procedures but only involves a “message-based-cure” instead, then the results
are even far more ineffective, futile, and fruitless.
As for non-dual seekers specifically, Maharaj - again - addressed that issue,
as discussed in the eBook entitled “Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj and His Evolution”:
“Whatever you have tried to understand during your spiritual search will prove
false.”
“When the birth is disproved, the great noble meaning of spirituality and the
meaning of this world—everything—is disproved.”
He told later visitors: “Do your normal duties”
and
“just
give up spirituality.”
Why that advice? Because Maharaj was sane enough to know - after having
witnessed accurately and objectively for decades - that spirituality does not
treat the Ultimate Sickness.
Moreover, spirituality does not treat polyps, cancerous polyps, neuroses,
psychoses, alcoholism or other addictions, planet-wide chaos, or
personality disorders, including (but not limited to) these by-products of the
Ultimate Sickness:
OCD, the
Depressive Personality Disorder (P.D.), the Histrionic P.D., the Factitious
P.D., the Narcissism P.D., the Somatization P.D., the Avoidant P.D., the
Borderline P.D.,
the Masochistic P.D., the Schizoid Avoidance P.D., the Schizotypal P.D., the
Passive-Aggressive P.D., the Paranoid P.D., the Dependent P.D., the Addictive
P.D.,
the Bipolar P.D., the Antisocial / Sociopathic P. D., the Pathological P.D.,
the Sadistic P.D., the Passive-Aggressive P.D., and Dissociative P.D.
Especially in his later talks, Maharaj offered the proper treatment - the
Ultimate Medicine - which had nothing to do with the spirituality that he spoke
of early on and that he later advised seekers to “give up.”
