KEY SERIES HIGHLIGHTS / REVIEW

123. It is also a fact that the “later Maharaj” or “Pure Maharaj” offered
less and less tolerance for those “hanging out” at the third step to realization
(that is, at the step where religious or spiritual personas are adopted and
played).
124. Yes, the religious or spiritual or philosophical roles almost always have
to be played for a time, but the longer Maharaj taught, the less tolerant he
was of the tendency to fixate at a place on the “path” that is not even the
halfway point of the “journey.”
125. The charge that Maharaj’s pointers in I
AM THAT were “inconsistent” and “self-contradictory” is not a valid one. To
understand why that is the case, one must understand “level-appropriate
pointers.”
126. Rather than being contradictory, Maharaj would offer a certain pointer to
a seeker at a certain place on the “path” that would differ from a pointer that
he would offer to a seeker at an earlier point on the “path” or at a later
point on the “path,” so his pointers were level-appropriate rather than “inconsistent”
or “contradictory.”
127. He finally started offering a non-spiritual message to visitors because he
knew that the main problem with humanity (and the Ultimate Sickness) centers in
the mind and that religion and spirituality merely offer more “mind stuff”;
and
128. because he knew that the mind is the source of all thinking - which
produces the incessant, endless grinding and churning between the ears that -
in turn - generates all human misery and suffering and emotional intoxication;
and
129. because he knew the only legitimate invitation to seekers was not to gain
more knowledge or to accumulate more dogma or to learn more spiritual
principles but was instead to reach the no-mind, zero-concept, thinking-free
state since that state alone eliminates magical thinking / supernatural
thinking / religious thinking / spiritual thinking and all other forms of
irrational thinking; and, mainly,
130. because his own observations with seekers who came his way led him to
predict that only 1 in 100,000 would realize, revised later to 1 in 1,000,000
and revised even later to 1 in 10,000,000.
131. His own experiences with seekers and his own, objective observations made
clear that the spiritual approach was not leading to realization.
132. Add to those reasons the fact that at the end he was offering a purer
version of the Nisarga Yoga which recommends natural living over unnatural
(religious) living and over supernatural (spiritual) living.
133. Once natural living manifests, one lives in the same manner as all things
natural: without religious beliefs or religious identities and without
spiritual beliefs or spiritual identities.
134. Consider for a moment how different the history of humankind would have
been if there has been no one assuming religious identities and no one being
driven by their religious identities at the time of the invasion of “the
Americas”; at the time of the Catholic Inquisition; at the times when hundreds
of wars around the globe were fought (and are still being fought) between
factions of different religions or different sects; at the time of the
Holocaust; on 9/11/2001; or on April 15, 2013 in Boston.
135.
The problems of humanity are centered in the mind; the mind generates unnatural
and supernatural (magical) thinking; so to be sane and logical and at peace,
then being influenced by the content of the mind (that is, beliefs) must be transcended.
136. That is, to move beyond the misery and suffering that are the effects of
the Ultimate Sickness (one symptom of which is magical thinking and the
nonsense which that generates) requires that one must move beyond the influence
of the content of the mind.
137. With 97% of the population of the planet claiming that they are “religious,”
and with many millions more claiming that they are “spiritual,” and with both
of those combining to generate more beliefs (that is, “mind content”) than any
other single source, and with his understanding those facts as well as the fact
that the problems of humanity are centered in the mind, then Maharaj advised
two visitors to “Forget spirituality.”
138. For the same reasons, he encouraged seekers to follow “their normal
inclinations,” that is, to follow their natural tendencies, to abandon all of
their spiritual work and just abide naturally - not unnaturally and not
supernaturally (i.e., neither “religiously” nor “spiritually” nor “philosophically”).
139. For those same reasons as well he told visitors, “Do your normal duties”
and “just give up spirituality.”
140. Maharaj’s advice to “forget spirituality” and to “do your normal duties”
and to “just give up spirituality” are also invitations to be free of magical
thinking, to get in touch with Reality, but to then also overlay on the
relative the understanding that Reality provides in order to not only be in
touch with Reality but also to be in touch with “reality.”
141. That is, to be in touch with Reality is NOT to be removed from the “realities”
of the relative existence. (The entire summative statement of non-duality is “I
AM THAT; I AM,” not just “I AM THAT.”)
142. The manifestation (including the relative, the “real,” the Am-ness)
continues after realization, but when Reality is overlaid on the relative (on
the “reality,” on the “real” that marks the after-realization period) then the
relative existence continues in a manner that is marked by being sane and
logical and rational and in touch with the six senses and the intuitive
awareness via the inner resource.
143. No longer is there any unnatural thinking or supernatural thinking or
religious thinking or spiritual thinking or any thinking at all. A no-mind,
zero-concepts, no-beliefs state is reached.
144. In a no-mind, zero-concepts, no-beliefs state, no one could come up with
the thought: “Hey, let’s invade a continent across the ocean to our west and
kill 150,000,000 people there in the name of Jesus Christ!”
145. In a no-mind, zero-concepts, no-beliefs state, no one could come up with
the thought: “Hey, let’s have a world war and kill six million Jews and another
six million people who are gay or mentally ill or who have different political
views from ours!”
146. In a no-mind, zero-concepts, no-beliefs state, no one could come up with
the thought: “Hey, let’s kill ourselves and a lot of other people by flying
some planes into the World Trade Center Towers!”
147. In a no-mind, zero-concepts, no-beliefs state, no one could come up with
the thought: “Hey, let’s bomb people in Iraq!”
148. In a no-mind, zero-concepts, no-beliefs state, no one could come up with
the thought: “Hey, let’s bomb people in Boston!”
149. In the absence of belief in all of the concepts and ideas and notions and
dogma and spiritual principles and thoughts and perceptions and delusions and
illusions and theories and hypotheses and views that had formerly filled the
mind and made it the place where humanity’s problem centers, an end will come
to the distorted thoughts that were based in the mind’s collection of distorted
beliefs.
150. Then, too, all ego-state-and-egotism-based talking will end. There will be
no “one” left to assume a super-religious identity or a super-spiritual
identity. Until then, those false identities with inspire magical thinking
which inspires magical talking (that is, to use a term Maharaj used but that
was edited from the transcripts of his talks: “BS”).
