KEY SERIES HIGHLIGHTS / REVIEW
199. Just because persons are paranoid does not mean that there might not really be someone out to harm them physically, and just because Maharaj made clear that there is no such thing as karma does not mean that cause and effect is suspended on a planet where ignorance and stupidity and insanity prevail.
200. Therefore, if the leaders of a nation, for example the U.S., come up with a term such as “collateral damage” that minimizes the effects of their warlike actions on the citizens of other nations, there should be no surprise when the citizens of other nations engage in warlike actions and then minimize the effects of their actions on, for example, U.S. citizens and then classify the killed and maimed persons as “collateral damage.”
201. Insanity breeds insanity. Duality breeds duality. And duality breeds a sense of “us” and “them” that will always generate an “us vs. them” mentality when personas are assumed and inspire fear, as personas always do.
202.
For any species to survive in the healthiest fashion possible, the strongest
must breed with the strongest. That is NATURAL selection. Among most humans,
the process has now been abandoned and replaced with a shallow, bastardized
version which has become “UNNATURAL selection.”
203. For example, some people are marrying based solely on physical appearance
and a “lizard brain” reaction”; in other cases, couples report that they
married after meeting in a “recovery program,” admitting that the attraction
was to what they had in common - they were “both sick” and both wanting to “get
well together” (as if the best partner for someone dying of cancer would be
someone else who is also dying of cancer?) Some marry for money, to snag a
caretaker. How are any of the examples of “unnatural selection” working,
long-term?)
204. Humans also engage in a shallow, bastardized version of what has become “SUPERNATURAL
selection,” so persons stuck at the third step on the multi-step “path” to realization
will need to find a partner who is as religious as they are;
or
who is as spiritual as they are; or who is as deeply embroiled in spiritual
workaholism as they are; or who is as concerned with being a “better, really
good, even really great person.” That way they can “grow together.”
Right.
205. The Nisarga Yoga take on all this: humans strive to move up any number of
hierarchies for all sorts of “personal,” ego-and-egotism-based and fear-based
reasons. Their motives are superficial;
in
nature, deer have no motives, no hidden agendas, and no “personal” goals; they
function naturally, based in the innate, instinctive drives that determine what
they do as a result of their thirst drive and their hunger drive and their sex
drive.
206. Having no “minds,” they cannot become so warped that they fight for the
sake of fighting, kill for the sake of revenge, kill for the sake of
controlling others, kill for the sake of defending an assumed persona, kill
because of religious beliefs, or kill for the sake of winning some delusional,
ego-and-egotism-inspired competition.
207. Moreover, persons abiding under the influence of personality do what they
are driven to do and to say what they are driven to
say. They are not choosing anything consciously. The insanity of that is that
they are driven by false identities, by mirages, and the result is insane
thoughts and insane words and insane actions.
208. Who do the masses turn to in an effort to find “the answer” . . . “the
cure”?
209. Some turn to the ones that Maharaj called “Big Name Teachers,” those who
are popular because they are blending dualistic concepts into their writings to
create popular appeal.
210. Some turn to an internationally-operating spiritual program that is run by
non-professionals who have no training whatsoever at addressing its membership’s
severe mental and emotional issues but who claim instead that “being spiritual”
cures mental illness.
211. Most stay with whatever organized religion their parents chose for them,
yet with over 5,000 years to address global insanity and destructive behaviors,
no changes have been brought about.
212. None of those have led anyone to any kind of long-term or permanent shift.
213. Can governmental leaders - all of whom are suffering from the Ultimate
Sickness themselves - bring about a change? Hardly.
214. The answer: in some cases, what has “worked” is finding a teacher who can
(a) free one of the beliefs that some external locus of power can come to the
rescue; (b) free one from abiding under the auspices of a mind’s beliefs and
delusions and distortions and identification with multiple personalities; and
then (c) “reconnect” seekers with the inner resource or inner guru.
215. Bill W. (the man who pointed out that “the main problem centers in the
mind”) wrote in the back of the book the final word offered after all of the
earlier pointers about spirituality, a final word that seemed to contradict all
of his earlier pointers. (It did. Why?
He
had been forced to abandon the original plan to treat the mental and emotional
roots of addiction and had been forced to go with the prevailing belief at the
time that addiction is a “moral issue” and that people must undergo a “moral
inventory” and become “moral” and become “good persons” if they are to be
healed.
216. In the end, he made clear that the problem rests in “personality” and that
there is no external locus of power that is going to come to the rescue when he
wrote:
217. “ . . . the personality change (my bold and italics)
sufficient to overcome alcoholism has manifested itself among us in many
different forms”
and
218. “With few exceptions our members find that they have tapped an unsuspected
inner resource (bold and italics mine) which they presently
identify with their own conception of a Power greater than themselves” (a line
that has been removed from many later editions of the book)
and
219. Only “our more religious members” refer to the “awareness of a Power
greater than ourselves” as “God-consciousness.” (So much for “we are spiritual,
not religious.”)
220. Note: The phrase “spiritual awakening” did not occur in the first printing
of the first edition. As happened with “The Holy Bible” in the mid-350’s A.D.,
some persons have taken it upon themselves to remove some lines from Bill W.’s
book and to add some other phrases or lines to support their continuing
contention that the problem with addicts - and, really, with all “bad’ persons
- is a moral issue that requires a spiritual solution.
221.
Some pointers offered by Bill W. are being shared here because he studied
Eastern pointers and because several pointers which he offered are relevant to
the topic under discussion.
222. He said that “the main problem centers in the mind.” That does not apply
to one particular group of persons. It applies to all among the non-realized
masses.
223. He said that, once the people and the happenings on this planet were
looked at objectively, then “the first thing apparent was that this world and
its people were often quite wrong.”
224. He stated clearly (though most refuse to admit it) that there is no
external locus of Power (a.k.a., “a god” or “gods and goddesses”) that can save
or heal anyone or anything and that . . .
“with few exceptions our members find that they have tapped an unsuspected inner resource which they presently identify with their own conception of a Power greater than themselves.”
(Thus, the so-called “Higher Power” is not an outer resource but is an inner resource, a.k.a., the “inner guru.”)
