THE CURSE OF HUMANKINDS’ RELATIVE EXISTENCE: IDENTIFICATIONS
“All illness begins in the mind.”

While never having heard of Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), that disorder is what the wisest “non-duality guides” have been addressing since the earliest days when non-duality-based satsang sessions and talks and books were coming into existence.
Over 2000 year ago, Yeshu'a said, “Dual-minded persons are unstable in all ways.” Long before that, in the "Pentateuch" or "Torah" the voice supposedly emanating from a burning bush used the summative statement of non-duality to supposedly report, “I AM THAT I AM.”
[Leaving out the semi-colon eliminated any chance of the readers of that passage from ever understanding its meaning.]
Some so-called “experts” have inaccurately said of DID that it is “a rare psychiatric disorder.” To the contrary, “non-dualists” have been aware that it is one of the most widespread mental disorders ever, a lack of its current label notwithstanding.
The Cleveland Clinic: Someone with DID has multiple, distinct personalities and the various identities control a person's behavior at different times. The condition can cause memory loss, delusions or depression [and much more]. DID is usually caused by past trauma.
Why should this disorder deserve all of the attention which non-duality guides have given it over the centuries, though not by name? Consider some of the signs and symptoms of DID:
Anxiety, delusions, depression, disorientation, drug or alcohol abuse, memory loss, suicidal thoughts and / or self-harm to name but a few.
WebMD reports that “Dissociative Identity Disorder (previously known as multiple personality disorder) is thought to be a complex psychological condition that is likely caused by many factors, including severe trauma during early childhood (usually extreme, repetitive physical, sexual, or emotional abuse).
The other contributing factors to the development of DID - which the wise have seen for centuries - include ignorant and insane programming, conditioning, domestication, acculturation, brainwashing and indoctrination along with the pervasive, unconscious assigning of and / or assumption of false personality identifications.
WebMD continues: “Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) is a severe form of dissociation, a mental process which produces a lack of connection in a person's thoughts, memories, feelings, actions, or sense of identity.
“DID is thought to stem from a combination of factors that may include trauma experienced by the person with the disorder. The dissociative aspect is thought to be a coping mechanism. Persons literally shut off or dissociates themselves from a situation or experience that's too violent, traumatic, or painful to assimilate with their ‘conscious self’.”

“Research indicates that the cause of DID is likely a psychological response to interpersonal and environmental stresses, particularly during early childhood years when emotional neglect or abuse may interfere with personality development. As many as 99% of individuals who develop dissociative disorders have recognized personal histories of recurring, overpowering, and often life-threatening disturbances or traumas at a sensitive developmental stage of childhood (usually before age 6).”
Ironically, it has been noted many times on this site that it is by the age of 5 or 6 that the Ultimate Sickness is already taking roots because of the global pervasiveness of the ignorant and insane programming, conditioning, domestication, acculturation, brainwashing and indoctrination and the pervasive, unconscious assigning of and / or assumption of false personality identifications referenced above.
It was because Maharaj came to see that the Ultimate Sickness is a mental illness, not an illness rooted in persons knowing too little dogma or in some “spiritual malady,” that he abandoned the use of any version of the Ultimate Medicine using dogma or spirituality as a basis.
That is way, during the third level of the evolution of his understanding, he focused on the problem of “the mind” alone. On this site as far back as 2006, this was offered:
“The mind precludes logic; logic precludes the mind.”
Consider if you will these pointers also offered seventeen years ago on this site:
The solutions which Maharaj pointed to in his later phase had nothing to do with religion or spirituality or finding “The Supreme Self.” He advised visitors to the loft to ignore the offerings from most “non-duality guides” or gurus or “Big Name Teachers.”
What Maharaj discussed in the end had everything to do with the psychological roots of humanity's problems. That is what “Maharaj the Psychologist” focused on after his failures with trying religious and spiritual methodologies to address the Ultimate Sickness.
What is to be addressed, therefore, are the psychological issues . . . the mind issues.
So if not the holy and spiritual plans which are being set forth by the persons who are leading / misleading the masses, then what should be focused upon, according to what Maharaj eventually came to understand as a more appropriate treatment plan?
According to Maharaj, focus on being rid of the problems generated by the mind. The Ultimate Sickness is a mental sickness, so only by addressing the mental issues can healing come. Thus, he said:
“All illness begins in the mind.”
“Your confusion is . . . in your mind.”
“Whatever
is conceived by the mind must be false, for it is bound to be relative and
limited.”
“Distrust your mind, and go beyond.”
“There is no chaos in the world except the chaos which your mind creates.”
“ . . . The mind obscures and distorts.”
“It
is the mind that creates illusion.”
“There is no such thing as peace of mind. Mind means disturbance.
Restlessness itself is mind.”
“Don't rely on your mind for liberation. It is the mind that brought you into bondage. Go beyond it altogether.”
“Beyond the mind there is no suffering.”
So if the problem centers in the mind, and since a sick mind - obviously - cannot heal a sick mind, then what is the solution, per Maharaj?
“Stop making use of your mind and see what happens.”
“Learn to separate yourself from the image and the mirror. Keep on remembering: I am neither the mind nor its ideas.”
“There is no such thing as mind. There are ideas . . . .”
“Abandon the wrong ideas, for they are false and obstruct your vision . . . .”
“The death of the mind is the birth of wisdom.”
“To know that you are a prisoner of your mind - that you live in an
imaginary world of your own creation - is the dawn of wisdom.”
So what was his state in the end, the state which ultimately freed him and led to the birth of his wisdom? It was a no-mind state. More on that tomorrow.
