ANNOUNCEMENTS
[Walter Driscoll asked to interview me in order to preserve on video some of the latest modifications and evolutions in the versions of the message offered here since 1989. He would label the discussion, "Unlearning with Floyd Henderson."
Please note: For those who have a problem hearing what is being shared, the video offers a fairly accurate set of closed captions which some listeners might want to activate.
The interview is available for viewing by clicking on video "NUMBER THIRTEEN" in the column to the right.]
1. [See the offer in gold text following this post for details on how you can watch a retreat on video which includes a detailed discussion of all seven of the steps on the path as used by Maharaj]
2. Here, with those who are still driven to talk about "god," the "Son of god," the "Holy Spirit," "Buddha," "Krishna," etc., etc., etc., the invitation to them is to view those as verbs, not nouns. See the green text after today's post for the full meaning and implications of that.
3. A newer video ("Number Ten: Awakening Together Satsang, March 2018") has now been added in the far right column of this page, offering the opportunity to view a recent 2018 satsang session with Floyd being interviewed by Regina and Jacqueline of "The Awakening Together Group." (See the details in the blue text after this post.)
4. Some prefer paperback books even if they have to wait a day or so to receive it and have to pay more for a printed book and its shipment. Now, 10 paperback books by Henderson are in print and available in two anthologies through Barnes and Noble, Amazon, and over 40,000+ booksellers around the globe including in the Americas, Germany, India, Italy, Poland, Russia, China, Spain, Brazil and South Korea. See the end of this post in red text for details.
5. Would you like to have us send to someone as a gift from you a copy of any ebook in our inventory? See the offer in purple text at the end of this post.
6. Or, you may purchase a Floyd Henderson Shopify Gift Card here for someone and offer recommendations for the books in Floyd's store which might be of assistance to them.
7. You may click here to visit Floyd's bookstore which offers both digital books and paperback books which deal with non-duality, non-duality-based fictional adventures, recovery, and financial budgeting.
BEING FREE OF THE CONSTANTLY-CHURNING, PEACE-DESTROYING MIND
“It is one thing
to see children engaged in and controlled by their magical thinking (including Santa,
the tooth fairy, guardian angels, floods from an angry god, and - as George Carlin
said - ‘same as the four-leaf clover and the horseshoe, same as the voodoo lady
who tells you your fortune by squeezing the goat's testicles,’ etc.”
“It is quite
another thing to see adults being driven by a childish, magically-thinking
mind. The most widespread evidence of their magical thinking is this: all
around the globe, there are adult-aged (but child-minded) persons who think
that natural events are really supernatural events, caused by god to “send a
message.”
“Their examples include hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, tsunamis, earthquakes, landslides, volcanic eruptions, blizzards, cyclones, wildfires and pandemics, ad infinitum.”

Yesterday:
The next non-dual pointer: seekers are
seeking many different things, and - as with those in the program above who are
suffering from the Addictive Personality Disorder - many of those seekers share
in common the belief that a spiritual cure or solution is required for whatever
ails them.
Any sane and sound human, however, would know this: the fact is that in no case
can a spiritual cure address a physical ailment, a mental ailment, or an
emotional ailment, the belief by some that they have the power to heal anyone
and everyone via prayer notwithstanding.
How sure was the author of the #1 selling book on alcohol addiction regarding
the factual basis of that statement? He would later write that alcoholism is a
four-part illness, 25% involving physical intoxication, 25% involving mental
intoxication, and 25% involving emotional intoxication.
Then, in his subsequent
writings, he returned to his original hypothesis, that (as with the masses
scattered about the entire planet now) the main problem centers in the mind and
that spirituality does not treat the mind.
There is no God who is in the business of messing up “minds,” and there is no
God that is in the business of repairing “minds.” In fact, that author - after
years of witnessing persons trying to use a spiritual cure for a mental,
emotional, and physical problem - went on to identify the other 25% of the
problem that had developed in that program.
The term he used to refer to the new problem that had developed in that program
was “spiritual intoxication,” and he made clear that spiritual intoxication was
not leading to recovery but was inhibiting recovery.
He observed, of course, that
spiritual intoxication was just one additional manifestation of the Addictive
Personality Disorder which was causing persons to remain intoxicated in one
manner or the other.
Again, Maharaj:
“First of all you identify something as being good or bad for yourself. Then,
in an effort to acquire good or to get rid of the bad, you have invented a God.
Then you worship such a God and . . . you pray to that God for something good
to happen to you.”
“Whatever you have tried to understand during your spiritual search will prove
false.”
“Whatever spiritual things you aspire to know are all happening in this objective
world, in the illusion. All this is happening in the objective world. All is
dishonesty. There is no truth in this fraud.”
F.: The posts over the last two days have looked at the events surrounding the
writing of a book which has sold more than thirty million copies worldwide and
which “Time Magazine” called “one of the one-hundred best and most influential
books written in English” since the 1920’s.
It was shown that the author who wrote the book that would become the most
widely-accepted “authority” on the treatment of alcoholism was intimidated by a
small group of very religious men in a Midwestern U.S. town to
(1) modify his discussion of what he deemed to be at the root of the Addictive
Personality Disorder (namely, “the mind”) and to
(2) proclaim that the root cause was a moral issue and that the main focus of
treatment for the illness should not be on addressing the “mind” (a.k.a.,
mental) issues but should focus on addressing the “spirit” issues.
[Interesting, adherents to that method rightly tell newcomers that they “do not
have a drinking problem but that they have a THINKING problem instead,” after
which the focus turns from the thinking problem to discussions of drinking and
spirituality.]
The result: presently, worldwide, there are millions of members of groups that
have organized around the writings in that book (though the membership is
ever-changing because almost as many leave each year as join annually).
Of those, only 1.5% - 3.5% are able to stay sober for a period of five years; conversely, 96.5% to 98.5% of those who join will fail to remain sober for even five years. The “spiritual” approach, which the religious members demanded should be the main focus of treatment, is failing miserably.
Yet the leadership leaves it up to newer members to announce when they have been “restored to sanity. (It has been said that “a man who is his own lawyer has a fool for a client.” Can it not also be said accurately that, “a man who is his own psychoanalyst has a fool for a client”?)
The question is, “Who told you that you have been restored to sanity? Is it not one or more of the same ego-states that told you that you were right about everything when your spouse, your children, your employers, your neighbors, and everyone else who experienced the misfortune of dealing with you were telling you that you were as nutty as a fruitcake?
So, what are more of the key pointers for those seeking via non-duality?
A. The number of those who will ever grasp the understanding fully - and become
fully liberated and fully enlightened and fully realized and fully free of the
effects of the Ultimate Sickness - are, according to Maharaj in his final guesstimate,
“one in ten million.”
B. Just as millions of alcoholics around the globe are being treated annually
with a method that has been shown to be ineffective, the case is the same with
millions of non-dual seekers.
C. Millions of seekers are using books written by some claiming to be “non-dual
authors,” authors who are actually offering a message about non-duality that is
skewed and ineffective and that is, in fact, not a non-dual message at all. The
top sellers are always the one who present (in the most appealing words that
their magical thinking can come up with) some sort of “spiritual angle.”
D. The most popular books on non-duality and the most popular book on treating
alcoholism are exactly alike in that both are offering a distorted, skewed,
ineffective, unsuccessful message.
E. The most popular book on treating alcoholism offers a treatment plan that
does not address in any way the mind / personality disorders that are at the
root of the problem, and the most popular books on non-duality do not address
in any way the root cause of the Ultimate Sickness (which is also a
mind-personality issue) because their popularity lies in the fact that the
authors had added duality-based elements to the message which guarantee “mass
appeal” and huge sales.
F. The no-holds-barred message of non-duality that eradicates all things
personal has never had “mass appeal.” If the non-Realized masses like a message
that they hear, it is proof that non-duality’s originally
blunt-and-in-your-face-message-that-will-set-you-free is not the message that
is being read or heard and that is being well-received by the non-realized
masses. The exact opposite is the case, and that is why Maharaj warned his
visitors to stay away from “the Big Name Teachers.”
G. Therefore, that which is presently the most popular method for treating
alcoholism (namely, “becoming spiritual”) and that which is presently the most
popular method for treating the Ultimate Sickness (namely, “becoming spiritual”)
are methods which - their popularity be damned - do not address at all the root
cause of the Ultimate Sickness and do not provide at all the proper treatment
for the Ultimate Sickness).
Both approaches are just so
much magical thinking.
Again, that is based in my own
experience and in the understanding which can come when abiding in a post-enlightenment,
post-liberation, post-realization condition.
Did I try all of the nonsense before
that condition manifested? Yes. I once wrote / confessed to the results of the distorted
thinking which drove my seeking:
In my energy-consuming search for salvation, I’d been dipped, dunked, sprayed, spayed, sprinkled, and neutered; in the quest for truth, I’d been blessed, cursed, cussed, lectured, scolded, and praised; in my pursuit of Life’s Meaning, I’d been communion’d, Om’d, grape-juiced, wined, ahsram’d, accepted, rejected, Mu’d, and yoga’d; in my chase for service-work-opportunities, I’d been pulverized, martinized, and frappéd; and in the endeavor to attain Life Eternal, I’d been baptized, Buddha’d, New Aged, powwow’d, sweat lodge’d, Far Eastern Indianized, incense’d, sage’d, Tao’d, Peru’d, Tibet’d, washed in the blood, dunked in the waters, and purportedly purified. Then in the end, each of my religious leaders had always charged me 10% of my total income for the whole sorry treatment, plus a building-fund-tax and a foreign-missions-surcharge to boot - all in spite of the complete ineffectiveness of their claims to “redeem and save.”
So much for the magical thinking which rendered me open to being guided to engage in all that BS.
The mere recalling of such a “journey” could be totally exhausting for many.
To be continued.
Please enter into the silence of contemplation.
