BEING FREE OF THE CONSTANTLY-CHURNING, PEACE-DESTROYING MIND
“It is one thing
to see children engaged in and controlled by their magical thinking (including Santa,
the tooth fairy, guardian angels, floods from an angry god, and - as George Carlin
said - ‘same as the four-leaf clover and the horseshoe, same as the voodoo lady
who tells you your fortune by squeezing the goat's testicles,’ etc.”
“It is quite
another thing to see adults being driven by a childish, magically-thinking
mind. The most widespread evidence of their magical thinking is this: all
around the globe, there are adult-aged (but child-minded) persons who think
that natural events are really supernatural events, caused by god to “send a
message.”
“Their examples include hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, tsunamis, earthquakes, landslides, volcanic eruptions, blizzards, cyclones, wildfires and pandemics, ad infinitum.”

G. Therefore, that which is presently the most popular method for treating
alcoholism (namely, becoming spiritual) and that which is presently the most
popular method for treating the Ultimate Sickness (namely, becoming spiritual)
are methods that - their popularity be damned - do not address at all the root
cause of the sickness (or the Ultimate Sickness) and do not provide at all the
proper treatment for the sickness (or the Ultimate Sickness).
And that is the case in almost all instances. The traditional medical community
failed for over half a year to diagnose properly a most serious condition existing
inside my elemental plant food body, a condition which was being caused by
polyps.
Moreover, their suggested method of treatment provided no final and total relief but required instead painful and dangerous procedures which would run “twice a year for life.”
It was a naturopathic doctor using
a totally natural, non-invasive plan which completely healed the body once and
for all and which has left the body polyp-free for decades without any
additional treatment required.
Look at the medical community in the U.S. and one will understand why the World
Health Organization has dropped medical care in that country to 37th on a list
of “developed and semi-developed” nations
While the U.S. medical
community admits to killing 180,000 people per year as a result of medical mistakes,
one member of the American Medical Association shared off the record that the
number is closer to 360,000 killed per year.
In the psychiatric community in the U.S., personality disorders (and their
fellow neuroses and psychoses) are most often treated with pharmaceuticals, and
a report in October 2011 revealed that more people in the U.S. are now dying
from the use of prescription drugs that from the use of illegal drugs.
See, it’s a global issue which spans the fields of medicine, philosophy, psychiatry,
psychology and which includes all of the off-the-mark methods being used to
address body and mind and personality issues as well as their accompanying,
grave mental and emotional disorders.
Whatever the problem or the sickness or the Sickness, in most cases the methods
being used to try to address the problem or sickness or Sickness are totally
ineffective, and if the treatment is one that does not involve physical
procedures but only involves a “message-based-cure” instead, then the results
are even far more ineffective, futile, and fruitless.
As for non-dual seekers specifically, Maharaj - again - addressed that issue,
as discussed in the ebook below entitled “Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj and His
Evolution”:
“Whatever you have tried to understand during your spiritual search will prove
false.”
“When the birth is disproved, the great noble meaning of spirituality and the
meaning of this world—everything—is disproved.”
He told later visitors: “Do your normal duties” and “just give up spirituality.”
Why that advice? Because Maharaj was sane enough to know - after having
witnessed accurately and objectively for decades - that spirituality does not
treat the Ultimate Sickness.
Moreover, spirituality does not treat polyps, cancerous polyps, neuroses,
psychoses, alcoholism or other addictions, planet-wide chaos, or
personality disorders, including (but not limited to) these by-products of the
Ultimate Sickness:
OCD, the Depressive
Personality Disorder (P.D.), the Histrionic P.D., the Factitious P.D., the
Narcissism P.D., the Somatization P.D., the Avoidant P.D., the Borderline P.D.,
the Masochistic P.D., the Schizoid Avoidance P.D., the Schizotypal P.D., the
Passive-Aggressive P.D., the Paranoid P.D., the Dependent P.D., the Addictive
P.D.,
the Bipolar P.D., the Antisocial / Sociopathic P. D., the Pathological P.D.,
the Sadistic P.D., the Passive-Aggressive P.D., and Dissociative P.D.
Especially in his later talks, Maharaj offered the proper treatment - the
Ultimate Medicine - which had nothing to do with the spirituality that he spoke
of early on but that he later advised seekers to “give up.”
The key point is that the road to misery and suffering on planet earth is paved
with misdiagnoses and, therefore, inappropriate, ineffective, and unsuitable
treatments.
Any competent, all-powerful God that - for whatever unexplainable reason -
stood by and let things get as messed up as they are on this planet would
surely see how messed up things are and clean up the mess.
The fact that such is not happening is evidence of the additional fact that the
most popular means of trying to treat anything and everything on the planet
(namely, being religious and / or spiritual and / or praying or begging a god
or gods for relief) is not working.
Whether the problem deals with addiction, emotional illness, personality
disorders and neuroses and psychoses, trouble with “relationships,” health
problems, family crises, financial predicaments, physical pain, endless misery
and suffering, grief, guilt, and resentment, the problems are ultimately rooted
in body issues, mind issues, and / or personality issues.
And the most serious body issues, mind issues, and / or personality issues are
not going to go away by praying to a myth-and-superstition-based entity.
Because all is matter-energy, and because matter-energy can neither be
destroyed nor created, then there is no Creator. And if there is no creator or
Creator or Creator-God, then there is also no Sustainer-God or Destroyer-God
either.
For five thousand years, people have just made up all that “stuff” as they go
along. (When the author of the book discussed earlier explained to a man that
he had no faith in the validity of religious concepts, he was advised, “Why don’t
you choose your own conception of God?”) See? Just make it up. Just dream up a
concept. Pick a version you like.
Maharaj explained that the only thing that has been “created” in this regard is
the conception of a God, and conceptions are just “dreamed up things.” Thus, he
said:
“First of all you identify something as being good or bad for yourself. Then,
in an effort to acquire good or to get rid of the bad, you have invented a God.
Then you worship such a God and . . . you pray to that God for something good
to happen to you.”
As a result, humans over the ages have prayed to a conceptualized god or gods
but have also - as discussed earlier - wished upon a star or at a wishing well;
have put faith in a four-leaf clover or a rabbit’s foot; have felt that hanging
a horseshoe affixed over a door will protect those entering; have believed that
if garlic is hung inside a home that it will provide protection against evil
spirits; ad infinitum.
But Maharaj made clear that “spirituality” has been proven meaningless:
“When the birth is disproved, the great noble meaning of spirituality and the
meaning of this world - everything - is disproved.”
And if disproved, what is left
to think about endlessly, to blah-blah-blah talk about? Nothing. Ah, the peace and joy of the nothingness!
As for silence, one of Grandmother’s ancestors said, “Whites in the U.S. speak endlessly about their ‘freedom of speech’; the indigenous peoples endorse freedom from speech.”
“Peace of mind?” Impossible. Silencing the mind by ending the mind by ending all false beliefs? Possible.
Relatedly, this was shared in 2012:
“The indigenous know about
silence. We are not afraid of it. In fact, for us silence is more powerful than
words. Our elders were trained in the ways of silence, and they handed over
this knowledge to us. Observe, listen, and then act, they would tell us. That
was the manner of living.
With you it is just the opposite. You learn by talking. You reward the children
that talk the most at school. In your parties you all try to talk at the same
time. In your work you are always having meetings in which everybody interrupts
everybody and all talk five, ten or a hundred times.
And you call that ‘solving a
problem’. When you are in a room and there is silence, you get nervous. You
must fill the space with sounds. So you talk compulsorily, even before you know
what you are going to say.
White people love to discuss. They don’t even allow the other person to finish
a sentence. They always interrupt. For us Indians this looks like bad manners
or even stupidity. If you start talking, I’m not going to interrupt you. I will
listen. Maybe I’ll stop listening if I don’t like what you are saying, but I
won’t interrupt you.
When you finish speaking, I’ll make up my mind about what you said, but I will
not tell you I don’t agree unless it is important. Otherwise I’ll just keep
quiet and I’ll go away. You have told me all I need to know. There is no more
to be said. But this is not enough for the majority of white people.
People should regard their words as seeds. They should sow them, and then allow
them to grow in silence. Our elders taught us that the earth is always talking
to us, but we should keep silence in order to hear her.”
