BEING FREE OF THE CONSTANTLY-CHURNING, PEACE-DESTROYING MIND

to see children engaged in and controlled by their magical thinking (including Santa,
the tooth fairy, guardian angels, floods from an angry god, and - as George Carlin
said - ‘same as the four-leaf clover and the horseshoe, same as the voodoo lady
who tells you your fortune by squeezing the goat's testicles,’ etc.”
“It is quite
another thing to see adults being driven by a childish, magically-thinking
mind. The most widespread evidence of their magical thinking is this: all
around the globe, there are adult-aged (but child-minded) persons who think
that natural events are really supernatural events, caused by god to “send a
message.”
“Their examples include hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, tsunamis, earthquakes, landslides, volcanic eruptions, blizzards, cyclones, wildfires and pandemics, ad infinitum.”

In conclusion:
Non-duality offers the point that there are three ways by which humans can traverse the relative existence: naturally (i.e., in a nisarga fashion); unnaturally (i.e., driven by lies and distortions); or supernaturally (i.e., religiously or spiritually).
Maharaj blended the Nisarga yoga understanding with the Direct Path Method. He even added nisarga to his pseudonym in order to “advertise” or to alert seekers to what he was offering in the loft of his flat in the Vanmali Bhavan building at 10th Lane in the Khetwadi locale.
All three manners of traversing the relative are determined by the content of the mind. To abide naturally, one must be realized - that is - freed from believing the nonsense and ignorance which was taught and accepted without questioning.
To abide unnaturally, one must be unawake, unaware, unconscious, driven by the beliefs passed on in one’s culture via programming, conditioning, domestication, acculturation, brainwashing and indoctrination.
To abide religiously or spiritually, one must have been programmed, conditioned, etc. to think, as lot, and to think in magical (delusional) ways.
When beliefs or actions which are unnatural or abnormal are thought to be natural, that is evidence of the presence of ignorance and insanity. When beliefs or actions which are abnormal but are thought to be normal, that is evidence of the presence of ignorance and stupidity and insanity.
When natural events in nature happen because of natural causes but the masses believe those events were caused by a supernatural force or Power, then that is also evidence of the presence of ignorance and stupidity and insanity.
Examples of magical thinking have been offered. Here are a few more examples:
The path of Hurricane Katrina in 2005 was determined by all-natural causes, including global rotation, global winds, trade winds moving westward from the coast of Africa, the position of a variety of high and low pressure systems, etc.
Yet the Dalai Lama - either
(a) knows nothing about why hurricanes actually follow the track they follow
or he
(b) wanted to use the event to further his own agenda and spread his own belief system; thus, he assigned a supernatural cause to an all-natural event. He claimed that “the people of New Orleans were hit by Hurricane Katrina because of their ‘negative karma’.”
Several TV evangelists in the U.S. claimed that the hurricane hit New Orleans because of God’s wrath which was evoked by the fact that “New Orleans had a history of being tolerant of homosexuals.”
Pastor John Hagee said that “Hurricane Katrina was, in fact, the judgment of God against the city of New Orleans” because “New Orleans had a level of sin that was offensive to God because there was to be a homosexual parade there.”
The right-wing political figure / Evangelical minister Franklin Graham, son of the right-wing Evangelist Billy Graham, suggested that the city was targeted because of “the city’s sinful reputation,” saying, “This is one wicked city, OK? It’s known for Mardi Gras, for Satan worship. It’s known for sex perversion. It’s known for every type of drugs and alcohol and the orgies and all of these things that go on down there in New Orleans.”
Evangelical teleminister Pat Robertson said that God steered Katrina towards New Orleans because he was angry at the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for their selection of Ellen Degeneres to host the Emmy Awards. He said:
“By choosing an avowed lesbian for this national event, these Hollywood elites have clearly invited God’s wrath. Is it any surprise that the Almighty chose to strike at Miss Degeneres’ hometown?”
Louis Farrakhan, leader of the Nation of Islam, suggested that the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina was divine punishment for the violence that the U.S. had inflicted on Iraq.
A Protestant pastor named Rev. Shanks suggested that - when New Orleans is rebuilt - gays, lesbians, abortion providers, and non-Christians should be not permitted to return to the city.
A month later, Hurricane Rita made landfall in the U.S. on September 24, 2005 at the Texas-Louisiana border between Sabine Pass, Texas and Holly Beach, Louisiana after having reached wind speeds of 180 mph (290 k.p.h).
A few days later, I left Texas to travel to Louisiana to conduct a 2-day retreat which some seekers there had arranged. I drove through the area where landfall occurred, often driving around some trees that had fallen and had not yet been cleared.
The downed power lines were turned off as crews from all around the U.S. arrived to help restore electricity to the hundreds of thousands who lost service.
Along the way, I stopped at a store in Burkeville, a rural Louisiana tow; there, I overheard an elderly woman talking to the cashier and a group of other people who were waiting in line to pay for the water and ice they were buying.
She claimed that the hurricane was caused by a supernatural Power and said that “God is trying to tell us something, and we better listen.” And all of her neighbors nodded in agreement, one reinforcing her belief with an “Amen, Sister.”
Magical thinking leads to humans assigning supposedly supernatural causes to events which are totally natural. Sometimes their comments are rooted unconsciously in their own ignorance. Other times, their comments are rooted quite consciously in their intent to advance their hidden agendas.
Two nights ago, huge storms passed across Texas. My daughter’s home just west of the house I’m renting was pelted by golf ball to baseball sized hail. They will need to arrange to have a new roof installed.
Thousands of people who park $80000 worth of cars outside (because their garages are filled with about $500 dollars worth of junk) suffered major damage:
(I can explain why supposedly sacred cows [magical thinking alert] roam freely through the streets of Mumbai. As for the one roaming around freely yesterday in Austin, no clue.)
One man said, “I can’t believe this happened to my car. I’ve lived here for over thirty years and have always parked my cars on the street and never had any storm damage.”
Imagine that. What a mystery,
huh? Guess god does “work in mysterious ways.” Except for the fact that there
were hours of reports of a storm coming our way and that it was going to cause
major hail damage. By noon the next day, one company alone already had 5000 calls making a claim.
Magical thinking (or, as Maharaj called it “ignorant, stupid and insane” thinking) is the very crux of the Ultimate Sickness.
The key pointer he offered when discussing the third and final (psychological) version of the Ultimate Medicine was that (1) all problems center in the mind and that (2) it is the programmed, conditioned, domesticated, acculturated, brainwashed indoctrinated and duality-driven mind which generates “ignorant, stupid and insane” thinking.
As Yeshu’a said, “A dual-minded person is unstable in all ways.” The effects are never limited. They affect relationships at home and at work and in traffic and in checkout lines in stores and everywhere else and at all times.
The solution: what was taught can be un-taught; that is, what was learned can be un-learned.
Simply find the correct answers to the considerations offered here for at least thirty-four years:
“Is it possible that everything you have ever read or ever heard or were ever taught or that you ever learned is BS?”
“Is it possible that it has all been nonsensical, magical-thinking-based distortions, misrepresentations, falsehoods, dishonesties, deceits, fabrications, and deceptions?”
“Is it possible that it all has been like a cancer on your brain?”
Is it possible that it would be sane to eliminate the cancerous part of the brain called ‘the mind’ and be done with that damn part forever?”
