Today's Considerations
[Continued from yesterday]So what Maharaj eventually saw was this: the Ultimate Sickness is a mind sickness, not a sickness rooted in an "impure heart" or in a "sick soul" or in some sort of "spiritual malady." His advice later on was to hang Christ, hang Mohammed, hang all so-called prophets and to ignore the Vedas as well. He advised seekers to find that which they have always known but that which they do not presently know that they know. Why is that the case? Because learned ignorance and imposed insanity block the consciousness from tapping into the inner resource / the inner guru and seeing purely . . . seeing Truth . . . seeing reality . . . and seeing Reality.
If persons are engaged in the business of endlessly reforming themselves to "make their hearts pure" or to heal their "sick souls," and if persons are also engaged in the business of endlessly trying to reform others in order to "make all of their hearts pure" and to "make all of their sick souls well," then their mind problems and their false identification problems will never be addressed.
To the contrary, Maharaj came to understand that movements and religions and philosophies which are rooted in crazy, dreamed up myths and superstitions and beliefs cannot possibly heal minds that are filled with ignorant, dreamed up beliefs, much less cure insanity; instead, such movements and religions and philosophies contribute to the now-widespread ignorance and insanity which are the stock and trade of the non-Realized masses.
Maharaj said time and again that "this is all so simple." Why do most find that the non-dual understanding is not simple for them at all? Because their seeking has been misdirected. They have been sent off on a Celestial Wild Goose Chase. They have been told that they must find the Special Key which can unlock their hearts and allow the impurities to seep out. They have been told that they must find and cultivate the Grand Prize of Spiritual Giantism and thereby treat their "soul malady." And they have been influenced by mass appeal to believe the words of the persons Maharaj called "Big Name Teachers who are to be avoided."
If those types are forced to discuss the mind problems of the masses, they still offer a Religious or Spiritual Cure-All Medicine which they claim will fix all of the problems which people have with the heart and the soul and the body and the mind as well.
If the industry were licensed, they would be sued for malpractice. It is tantamount to a doctor telling patients who are suffering from the pain and misery of a brain tumor to take two aspirin throughout the day to treat what ails them.
The fact is, when there is a tumor within the brain, it must be removed. ALL of it must be removed. The same applies to the Ultimate Sickness: if there is ignorance-and-insanity-generating nonsense that is stored in the mind-part of a brain and that is causing insane thoughts and crazy words and mad, totally-foolish actions, then that must be removed. ALL of it must be removed.
On the other hand, if one's Ultimate (mental) Sickness is properly diagnosed, then yes, treating the problem can be as simple as Maharaj said; otherwise, very complex Ultimate Sickness complications will manifest if persons try to treat a mind problem by operating on "the heart" or "the soul."
It really is simple to address the mind problem by casting aside all of the beliefs which are stored therein and which are subconsciously driving every thought and word and action of the non-Realized masses. Far more complex is the business of trying to fix "an impure heart" or "a diseased soul or spirit." One might as well spend the entire relative existence trying to catch a greased pig. One might as well believe that catching "the Will-of-the-Wisp" will cure what ails her or him. Persons might as well believe that their mental problems can best be treated by catching a unicorn and eating some flakes scrapped from its magical horn.
This deal really is simple. And is that not the way it - and the entire existence - should be? If one discards all beliefs, then the manifestation becomes quite simple. There is nothing to argue about. There is nothing to fight about or die for or kill for. There are no false identities which are assumed to be real and which struggle constantly to have their every desire met and to avoid their every fear.
The burdensome alternative to truly keeping it simple is being . . . simple-minded.
All humans begin not with a simple mind but with no mind at all. A child comes onto the scene with a blank tablet as far as ideas, notions, perceptions, and concepts (a.k.a., "beliefs") are concerned. If there is a caretaker available to provide food, clothing and shelter, the existence of the no-mind child is simple.
Yet soon, every child is robbed of the potential for continued simplicity throughout the remainder of the relative existence by parents and cultures who use their thought-induced, corrupted-mind-induced words to fill the minds of youth with an accumulation of totally-bogus "knowledge" which amounts to what Maharaj called "learned ignorance."
Of all of the learned ignorance taught, the most delusional teachings are those which lead to an accumulation of multiple false identities / roles / personalities including those which are at first assigned to an unquestioning child as well as those which will be assumed later on during one's adulthood years. How more insane can one be than to not know "who / what he or she really is"? Or at least to know what he or she is not?
To that end, the discussion will move back to the role that personalities play in blocking the manifestation of happiness, in blocking any ability to develop an appreciation for peace and quiet, and in inspiring a lifetime of hectic and chaotic going and doing and zooming.
More on that tomorrow.
To be continued.
