“MIND” and PERSONALITY: What Cultures Consider “Assets” Are Actually “Liabilities”

Part Five

If one walks into a forest and becomes lost, the surest way out is to retrace one’s steps, exactly, in reverse order. Similarly, the “path” to realization is the exact opposite, step-by-step, of the way one became lost in body-mind-personality identification.

Part of this series is showing how the contamination process happened in order to see what must occur for the re-purification of the consciousness to happen. Only if one sees, “Oh, my gosh, yes, that applies to me” might one realize why the “journey” is indicated as the appropriate “treatment” for what ails the earth’s human population.

So, see that persons are like that character in MacDonald’s novel (as reported in the previous chapter): totally out of touch with reality, living as if actors on a stage, and playing their fake roles and not knowing that they are fakes. They truly believe that their roles define who they are, and that’s why those trapped in personality identification appear to be insane and totally out of touch with reality.

They developed a set of tools during childhood to use to address one specific set of circumstances. The folly is that they continue to use that same set of tools (their personality and the behaviors that are driven by their personality) in every situation that arises throughout adulthood.

Therefore, the earlier points that “persona-playing will lead persons to personality disorders” and that "adults behave in childish ways" should now be understood. What remains to be understood is what those “bizarre circumstances” are that drive children to develop a specific personality and to behave in the ways that are unique to that personality type.

(Note: the egotism of most parents will inspire them to reject any consideration that they created a bizarre environment for their children to be raised in, and the egotism of most children will reject the same consideration. The tendency among persons is to “normalize” their circumstances, no matter how many elephants in the kitchen are being ignored, or to "minimize" their circumstances: "Well, they did the best they could.")

So does the term "bizarre circumstances" include sexual abuse and therefore not apply to the majority who believe they were "pretty darn good parents" or that they had "pretty darn good parents"? No, as bizarre as sexual abuse is, that is not the bizarre environment that most grew up in;

however, most children do suffer from physical, mental and emotional abuse as well as abnormal parent-child relations. The most common “bizarre circumstances” that force children to develop personalities for coping with an abnormal environment include families that are overly-restrictive and that impose rigid, puritanical demands;

families that offer only conditional love or none at all; families that are overly-indulgent in child-rearing or who create dual imaging (public vs. private) so that family secrets are kept behind closed doors; and families in which neither parent understands their children or in which abandonment issues are fostered.

Also included are families which generate in children a sense of threat or fear more often than they provide a sense of security and well-being; families in which a parent is anal-retentive and overly-critical;

families in which one or both parents engage in contests for control with the children, contests which the children often win; and families that spoil the children so badly that as adults those children have no drive or motivation, develop a sense of entitlement, and thus expect to be taken care of by others.

These are the most prevalent types of environments that are not healthy and that are bizarre in terms of parent-child relations. Those are the environments that inspire children to develop coping skills / personality in order to deal with abnormal circumstances.

Each of the nine personality types identified by the enneagram, therefore, developed certain traits and behaviors in childhood that “worked” to some degree in those early, unhealthy parent-child relations but that become major obstacles when applied to adult-aged relations (which are most typically marred with the playing of “The Child role” or “The Parent role” in the absence of “Adult”-appropriate conduct).

Here are the abnormal home conditions that generate personality and that set children on a destructive course as they apply their childhood strategies to adult-age circumstances (meaning, as they unconsciously allow personality to dictate the ways that they think, emote, and behave):

Often, Type Ones as children were trying to cope with a rigid, judgmental environment in which parents set forth unreasonably excessive moral and ethical demands and expectations, especially involving religious restrictions.

Ones become reformers or perfectionists, can become highly self-critical if they don’t adhere as adults to the parental expectations that were set forth during childhood, can become judgmental, and will often label others as being “bad” or “evil.”

Often, Type Twos as children were trying to cope with an environment in which parents were emotionally unavailable, were offering only a conditional version of love, or wherein a parent (often the father) was in absentia, physically or otherwise. They can spend their entire adulthood is a search for love and will give away far too much in the quest.

Often, Type Threes as children were reacting to an especially indulgent parent (often to the mother). Sometimes, an abusive male parent was present, and the hiding of family secrets set the stage for manufacturing the images that were shown outside the home (which were quite different from the abusive reality that existed inside the home).

The stage was set for creating and maintaining positive images while living darker lives behind closed doors. Threes, therefore, can experience a sense of incongruity since their "positive" outside image never matches their "negative" inside reality. Adult Threes can be charming in public venues but can be sadistic behind the closed doors of an office, a home, etc.

They become charismatic performers and achievers in public but that is fakery. They usually become vicious as they competitively strive to outdo or even crush all others who do not please them, and they will use a vile tongue to try to diminish the objects of their anger.

Often Type Fours as children were trying to cope with a fear of abandonment and being misunderstood by parents. An internal, fantasy-driven inner life often developed. They become the romantics who are the most likely to engage in some nebulous “search for Self” or a more legitimate search for authenticity, but such searching can often leave them remote and distant when the search proved to be unsuccessful. Fours who do not find what they seek can eventually isolate; Fours who do find authenticity can enjoy the solitude without becoming isolationists.

Often, Type Fives as children were trying to cope with a hostile environment wherein their parents generated a sense of threat more often than a sense of security. Some Fives also had an early experience with death. Obsessing over what many take to be “the morbid” can dominate their thoughts and conduct.

Often, Type Sixes as children were trying to cope with a perceived need to develop a relationship with an authority figure (often a male) in order to feel secure. They will spend a lifetime seeking security and following the orders of their political or religious or spiritual leaders (usually males) no matter the degree of nonsense or self-contradiction expounded by those leaders. Fifty percent of all people are Sixes (who often show the personality traits of Type Threes).

The planet, therefore, is dominated by those showing Type Three-Six traits. Sixes, during adulthood, can be dominated by fear and a search for security, which explains their blind loyalty to political and religious leaders whom they think can protect them, both now and “forevermore.” They want "caretakers" and "providers," setting themselves up for dependency rather than independence.

The other types will be discussed tomorrow, but do you understand the role that the warped mind plays as it generates warped personalities as a result of growing up in warped environments? Are you seeing why adults perform so poorly in trying to create healthy relations during their relative existence?

Are you seeing why most adults behave childishly and why, short of full realization, they will never be able to choose to behave differently . . . driven as they are by their childhood tool set? Are you seeing how childhood programming and conditioning prevent adults later on from making sound, sane, and independent choices?

THE EXPLANATION


If looked at as nouns, they point to illusions and are, therefore, a total waste of time to even discuss; if looked at as verbs which are resulting in certain sane but rare behaviors among humanity, then they are worthy of some attention during the relative existence.

Meaning? There are members of certain groups who say things such as "My concept of god in the past was of a weak god, an absentee god, A Santa Claus-type god, a mean, punishing, vindictive god, etc. Today, I am in close contact with a loving and caring god whom I worship and praise and glorify and give thanks to."

The reply to that usually goes like this: "If you are in contact with a god that wants to be worshipped and praised and glorified, then you're dealing with someone like yourself - a narcissist - and hanging out with narcissists will never bring an end to your narcissism (that narcissism evidenced by the fact that you think you are "godly").

Next, in the phrase 'loving and caring god,' any supposed god that truly had her or his act together would tell you that the totally irrelevant part of that phrase is 'god' and that the only part that is relevant is the "loving and caring" part.

"That is, a non-narcissistic their god / their goddess would say, "I care not an iota about being worshipped and praised and glorified by you or anyone else. How arrogant and insecure and needy would I have to be to want that? Forget the man-made, dreamed up noun 'god' and focus on the 'god as a verb' understanding and then go forth and let loving and caring be verbs - not adjectives - and let them generate the act of love and the act of caring and let those actions manifest through you." 

Yeshu'a (Jesus) and Pope John Paul II and Pope Francis were spot on:


"No one shall ever see 'the kingdom of heaven.' It is within"

and 


"Heaven and hell are not geographic places

but are states of mind, nothing more than

concepts dreamed up by men."

"There is no hell."

--Pope Francis, the current pope

in an interview with journalist Eugenio Scalfari,

a writer used by the Pope to issue off the record

teachings which become a part of the Papal Magisterium.

[That said, would that the popes who have shown the courage to reject a core concept of their dogma - namely, "hell" - would find the additional courage required to question the very existence of their institution in light of the centuries-long cover-up of their history of raping children and in light of the mental and emotional and psychological scarring of billions of their members past and present.

And that need for courage also applies as questions need to be asked about why so many other sky cults are still being supported and allowed to continue to exist as well. When certain types of programming and conditioning have been shown to blind the masses, they should end. Will they? Not likely. Why?

Because what the masses think and say and do is most influenced by the international crime families which hold sway over the masses as criminals conduct their planet-wide operations. What are the major international crime families and which are the most influential and have the largest memberships?

The Mafia / La Cosa Nostra; the Catholic Church (with it 1.2 billion followers) whose Vatican Bank worked for decades with the Mafia while laundering mob earnings (for a 15% all-profit charge by the Bank); Protestant and Evangelical Churches (with over 1.2 billion followers) like the one I was raised in where the youth director molested and sexually assaulted young girls; big business which has long created environments in which people have been abused; powerful political bodies like the U.S. Congress, etc., etc., etc.)

With all of those crime families, neither the followers nor the leadership ever voluntarily step down or shut down their criminal activities. Be they gangs, organized crime families, religions, big business, politicians, etc., they all want control and they all want power and they all want money, and nothing internal will interfere with the driving forces at play.

The masses must demand that all those in charge must step down and their groups and institutions must shut down, and there's the real problem because the continuation of their crimes are enabled not as much by the people running such crime organizations as they are enabled by the masses of people who - wanting some perceived "payoff" - remain involved with them and give them money and support them and aid and abet the continued existence of those criminal enterprises and thus facilitate the ability of church criminals and political criminals and other types of criminals to continue to commit their crimes.]
