Grasping a Clearer Understanding of Non-Dual Terms

In my true Maharaj-type maverick, rebellious style, this began in middle school and continued through high school: I stopped participating in that morning ritual of saying the pledge to the flag, and that came nearly 60 years before any NFL players made the same decision to stop participating.
My refusal resulted in my being sent by teachers to the office where the principal administered what he called "swats" or "licks" - the striking of my buttocks with a board which often left water-filled blisters on my cheeks.
Yet I continued to refuse to swear allegiance to a flag after having seen the horrors perpetuated by the military people who had carried that flag around with them all across the country and all around the globe.
My Cherokee grandmother once agreed to discuss a typical day in the lives of her family before a U.S. Army regiment showed up one morning to relocate her relatives as a part of the forced displacements of approximately 60,000 indigenous peoples (a.k.a., “American Indians”).
She recounted the morning when a chill came over everyone at her family's home and farm site when those U.S. soldiers were seen approaching with that U.S. flag blowing in the wind at the head of the column of troops.
Years before, her family had cleared some land in East Texas and had used the cut trees to construct a 60-foot “long house” for three large families.
The soldiers who came that day took away Grandmother's family and friends and stole their land and cabin and fields of crops. The land and possessions were sold for $1.50 per acre to a German family of four by the U.S. Government.
The soldiers who then marched the "redskins" off to Oklahoma or points to the east were carrying that same U.S. flag, and many of Grandmother's relatives and friends and others on the forced march died during that walk north.
After a dozen questions about the abuse which the U.S. Government heaped on the indigenous peoples, I turned back to the lifestyle of her relatives.
First, understand that silence reigned when I spent time in Grandmother’s no-heat-and-no-cooled-air, no-running-water, no-indoor plumbing home, so I asked how they could stand living in such cramped quarters with a 20-foot space allowance per family unit. I suggested the noise of so many talking must have been disturbing, if not maddening.
She smiled, then explained: there was very little talking inside, and what talking there was happened so quietly that no one could hear anything from one section to another.
I recall two specks of evidence of the wisdom of the indigenous peoples when it was said, “Truth is nothing more than the space between exhalation and inhalation”
and
“Listen to the silence. It speaks.”
One recent U.S. politician told so many lies in his first 100 days of office that journalists and other began to compile a list of what they expected might be a record number of lies from any politician. He won the contest with a total count of 30,573 documented lies stated in public.
Talk about a guy who had a “propensity to talk rather than to listen.”
His term ended with a bang, the 30,573 lies climaxing with a crescendo of “The One Big Lie” at the final point.
During the eighteen years I spent off and on around my silence-and-peace-and-quiet-loving Grandmother, I’m sure she did not made 30,573 statements, much less tell that many lies. Silence reigned.
She was most assuredly “fluent in silence.” When she did speak, her words were suffused with wisdom.
Now, for the masses, there is a call for them to be un-taught so that they can un-learn; therefore, some talking is required but not by them.
Their only part, if they would be free of learned ignorance and stupidity and maybe even some degrees of insanity, is to listen and then consider in the silence the pointers offered to them.
That was the original purpose of what passes for "meditation" nowadays.
